Pat McGrath Labs LiquiLUST Review

March 24, 2021

Pat McGrath LiquiLUST Legendary Matte Lipstick

I have a look at some new liquid lipstick colors today with swatches of the Pat McGrath Labs LiquiLUST Legendary Wear Matte Lipsticks. She launched 2 shades in Divine Nude and Divine Rose earlier this year (review + swatches here) and just added 6 more colors to the formula lineup. Available online at Pat McGrath and Sephora.

These are long-wear liquid lipsticks with a matte finish. Once they dry they have a matte budge-proof finish. They stayed put on the lips. Being a matte finish they do have that dry matte lip look but they did not feel drying on the lips. I like the color range and if you’re looking for a matte liquid lip I think these are worth checking out! I am not the biggest fan of matte lips since I’m more of a glossy lipstick person. I prefer the look of her MatteRevolution Lipsticks on my lips but those aren’t transfer or budge proof like these LiquiLUST.

All the colors applied smoothly with full coverage. Since I have a darker lip than the lightest shade I did have to swipe a few times to get an even layer. These come with a pointed sponge tip applicator.

Sisley-Paris

New Sisley Le Phyto-Blush + So Stretch Mascara

March 19, 2021

Sisley Le Phyto Blush and So Stretch Mascara Review

I have some new Sisley launches to review today! They recently added a few things to their makeup line including the new Sisley Le Phyto-Blush ($80 each) and So Stretch Mascara ($72). With anything Sisley you can expect that the price points will be extremely high but the quality is always exceptional. I personally really love their skincare and hair care line. I have a few favorites in their makeup but haven’t tried a lot.

So Stretch Mascara

Sisley So Stretch Mascara

The So Stretch Mascara is a lengthening mascara that performs well for me. It lengthens and defines and does not smudge. It does a pretty good job at holding the curl even though it’s not waterproof. The applicator is perfect for my lashes – it did a good job at coating them all evenly while defining them. No clumping at all! I have low expectations for most mascaras and I like this one enough that I will repurchase in a few months.

Le Phyto Blush

Sisley Le Phyto Blush review

The Le Phyto Blush is a powder blush with a soft texture that blends beautifully into the skin. I purchased two from Nordstrom and the Sisley team also sent a couple for me to try. There are some matte finish colors that have a soft satin matte and then there are a couple of shimmers that act more like highlighters on my skin. I like that they add a nice chic flush of color to the face. For my skin tone I think the colors I ended up with are best when layered together but I swatched them and applied them on my face below just by themselves. These come in a beautiful mirrored compact that is super sturdy.

I found lasting power to be pretty good! For the shimmers I noticed it emphasized some texture when I applied them alone like a blush. For me the shimmery colors are best as a soft highlighter. Formula-wise these are excellent. Color-wise I think they can be easily duped with other brands. While the quality, pigment, texture and packaging are beautiful I have a hard time saying these are worth the $80 price tag.

Colors I have below, 1 Pink Peony is a soft matte baby pink

3 Coral is a matte coral

4 Golden Rose is a peachy rose pink in the pan, on my skin it looks more like a soft gold shimmer

On the skin, also wearing the new Chanel Sublimage L’Essence de Teint in B40 (review soon, but I think it is incredible!), YSL Touche Eclat in Shade 4.5,  Sisley Phyto Poudre Compact in 3 Sandy (love this for a soft pressed matte powder). Lips for each blush listed below:

Sisley Le Phyto Blush review Looks

Overall solid launches and quality-wise everything is excellent, true to Sisley’s usual standards. Performance is good for everything and I think you will love them if you try. I don’t know that I can say I think they are worth the steep price tag when you can find colors that have a similar vibe for the blushes.

Have you tried these? Or any other makeup items from Sisley? What did you think? You can find these available at Nordstrom and Sisley as well as at all other Sisley counters.

NARS

NARS Air Matte Lip Color, Blush + Soft Matte Tinted Lip Balm Review

NARS Air Matte Lip Color, Blush + Soft Matte Tinted Lip Balm Review

I’m late to the game in reviewing these NARS launches but thought I’d review them in case you still haven’t tried these and wanted more thoughts! NARS released several new products this year in mini collection launches. Reviews I’ve read have been very mixed and based on what I’ve tried, I think there are some hits and misses.

Air Matte Blush

NARS Air Matte Blush Review

The Air Matte Collection features a mix of matte finish products for lips and cheeks. I had high hopes for the Air Matte Blush as many of the YouTubers and bloggers I follow loved this! The formula is a soft whipped matte with a bouncy texture. The concept is really interesting to me but I found they weren’t easy to work with. The size of the pot made it difficult to dip my finger in without getting my nails in the product and they’re a little to small in circumference for a cream style brush applicator. Once applied on the skin the product didn’t really show up well on my skin (with the exception of a couple colors). Any blending caused product to drag and then disappear as it tugged with my foundation + powder. I tried these with fingers and a brush.

A couple of the colors were hits for me including Gasp (tan brown) and Darling (pink). I had high hopes for Orgasm as I love the powder blush version but it barely showed up on me.

Color-wise I think NARS created beautiful naturally flattering colors and I really wish the formula was easier to work with! They swatched nicely on the arms – I wish they blended nicely on the face for me.

There are eight colors total in this formula. I have five that I tested and swatched:

  • Hushed is a pale peach nude, it did not show up on my skin tone
  • Orgasm is a pale peach with gold shimmer, also did not show up on me
  • Darling is a soft cool matte pink
  • Rush is a coral peach
  • Gasp is a tan brown, looks dark in the pan, but shows up a tan nude on my skin

Air Matte Lip Color

NARS Air Matte Lip Color

For the lips NARS launched the Air Matte Lip Color, similar in concept to the blushes in a whipped matte finish. These have a weightless mousse-like texture with saturated pigment. The finish was smooth and blended nicely without drying out the lips. If you don’t mind reapplying every few hours these are nice. Color selection seemed limited to me with a lot of super bright bold colors and only a handful of neutrals. I like the look of All Yours (peach nude) and Shag (medium pink brown). The others weren’t really my cup of tea. If you’re looking for a long-wear matte finish lip, this isn’t the formula for you.

  • All Yours is a peale peach nude
  • Shag is a pink brown with mauve tones
  • Knockout is an electric coral
  • Total Domination is a neon red
  • Power Trip is a bold red

Soft Matte Tinted Lip Balms

Last we have a look at the Soft Matte Tinted Lip Balms. I ordered these from Sephora sight unseen. I bought nearly all the colors and they are a huge hit for me! They are a smooth matte lip balm with a diffused wash of color. Although lasting power isn’t long since it’s a balm, I love the way these feel and the pigment level is perfect. Neutrals and nudes can be tricky because the undertones don’t always work on me but I love every single one.

  • Intimate is the lightest shade, a your lips but better beige nude
  • Brief Encounter is a medium nude
  • Unrestricted is a cool light pink
  • Whip Lash is a medium brown nude
  • Touch Me is a cinnamon plum

NARS Soft Matte Lip Balms

Four of the lip balms colors on the lips with some of blushes applied as well:

Laura Mercier Blush in PassionFruit, Soft Matte Lip Balm in Unrestricted

NARS Air Matte Blush in Rush, Soft Matte Lip Balm in Brief Encounter

NARS Air Matte Lip Color, Blush + Soft Matte Tinted Lip Balm Review

Overall for me I found the Air Matte Collection a miss for the blushes. I think the Air Matte Lip formula is a nice one, but there are better colors with other brands. The Soft Matte Lip Balms are a hit for me. I really like the formula and colors!

You can find the Air Matte Collection available at most NARS counters now (many of the colors are limited-edition). Available online at NARS, Ulta, Nordstrom and Sephora.

The Soft Matte Tinted Lip Balms are available online at NARS and Sephora.

Chanel Perles Et Eclats de Chanel – Spring 2021

March 2, 2021

Chanel Perles Et Eclats de Chanel - Spring 2021

I have a look at some pieces from this year’s Chanel Perles Et Eclats de Chanel collection! I hauled a few items and have a full review and swatches of the my Chanel Le Blanc 2021 makeup collection picks. You can find the collection available now at Chanel.com. What I ordered:

Highlighter

Chanel Perles De Lumiere Illuminating Powder Blush Powder

The new highlighter Perles De Lumiere is a winner for me! I love the undertones and the shimmer. It almost has a soft sandy bronzed effect on my skin that matches my golden undertones perfectly. It’s metallic but applies smoothly. I know most of us beauty junkies and long-time Chanel collectors probably don’t need anymore highlighters at this point. I really love this one. While I can’t say it’s a must-have, I’m really happy I bought it and love the tones.

Eyeshadows

Chanel Les 4 Ombres Allure Et Eclat

The eye products exceeded my expectations! I think they’re very wearable. In the pan, the Les 4 Ombres Allure Et Eclat looks very light and kinda boring. When layered together they give the eyes a pretty unique soft diffused look. The star of the palette is the bottom right burgundy shimmer. It is what makes the palette stand out as the primary shade for me, I use the others to blend out the edges and highlight the brow bone for a pearly glow.

Texture is unique to me – it’s a powder but almost has a slightly creamy bouncy feel. Colors in general have a soft effect on the skin whether you apply with a sponge applicator or a brush.

Chanel Les 4 Ombres Allure Et Eclat

There are two new Stylo Ombre Et Contour pencils (twist up format) and I picked up one in Beige Perle. For me it’s a nice inbetween color to wear on the eyes when you don’t want to do a full eye look. Smudging this along the lash line will add some nice contour and shimmer in a no-makeup-makeup kind of way. I don’t think this is a must-have though.

Rouge Coco Flash

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash in Douceur 154 and Delicatesse 156

For the lips I was really tempted to buy all of the colors but wanted to save up for some other things. I picked the Rouge Coco Flash colors in Douceur 154 and Delicatesse 156. Both are sheer and shimmery. Douceur is a transparent sheer pearlescent pink. It does give my lips a pink tint but since I have pigmented lips and the formula is sheer, it looks like a soft pink shine. If you have lighter colored lips the pink will show up more on you. Delicatesse is a pretty sheer bold pink. It has some red undertones to it but with the shimmer it gives a more diffused look.

New Le Vernis Nail Polish

Chanel Le Vernis Perle Blanche 889 and Perle Burgundy 891

Last is a look at the two new Le Vernis nail polishes. Perle Blanche 889 is a super sheer opal shimmer. I applied it with 3 coats and it still looks very sheer. It’s pretty and makes the hands glow in a natural way. I like that the brush strokes aren’t visible. Perle Burgundy 891 is a pretty soft muted mauve plum brown shimmer. I was pleasantly surprised by this one although I think it has more of a fall season vibe. I love how it looks! Swatches in sunlight it look a bit brighter than they do in natural light – the shimmers are reflective in direct sun with a flash.

Chanel Le Vernis Perle Blanche 889 and Perle Burgundy 891 swatches

I skipped the creamy highlighting balms as creams rarely last long on my skin and I felt like I wouldn’t get a lot of use out of the new sticks. If you hauled or tried them let me know what you thought! I also passed on the new shades of Rouge Coco and Rouge Allure although I am tempted to try them, especially the color Tendresse.

Pat McGrath Divine Rose II Collection Review

I finally have a look at the new Pat McGrath Divine Rose II Collection today! You can find all the products available online at Pat McGrath Labs and Sephora. In today’s review, a look + swatches of:

Divine Rose Lip Colors

Pat McGrath Divine Rose II Collection Lipsticks Review

There are two repromoted lip pencils in PermaGel Lip Pencil in Buff (warm nude) and Suburbia (medium rose). These are long-wear lip pencils with rich coverage and I’m a huge fan of the color selection and formula! I think both Buff and Suburbia are wearable colors for a wide range of skin tones.

A few others I own and swatched from a while back reposted below. I wear Done Undone and Structure the most.

Pat McGrath Permagel Ultra Lip Pencil swatches

In this collection there is a new shade of lipstick in the Matte Revolution formula called Divine Rose which is a warm rose pink. It’s similar to Christy but Divine Rose is slightly more pink in tone. The Matte Revolution Lipstick formula is one of my favorites – it’s a luminous smooth full coverage matte I find unmatched in any other formula I’ve tried. Texture is smooth and comfortable without drying the lips. It’s not budge proof but it does have excellent lasting power. Comparison swatches below. Some shades look similar to Divine Rose. The subtle differences I see: Sextrology is lighter, Christy is slightly warmer/deeper, 1995 is cooler, Omi is 2-3 shades darker and more cool-toned:

Pat McGrath Labs Pink Nude Lipstick swatches

There are two liquid lipsticks in the LiquiLUST Legendary Wear Liquid Lipstick formula. This formula has been launched in a few kits in previous years. I cannot recall if both shades were available before. Divine Nude is a cool-toned rose nude and Divine Rose is a cool toned medium rose. I feel these would be more flattering on either lighter skin or darker skin. I’m right in the middle and my olive complexion doesn’t work the best with these shades, but the formula is excellent in lasting power and coverage.

Eyeshadow Quad

Pat McGrath Divine Rose Luxe Quad in Eternal Eden

The new Divine Rose Luxe Quad in Eternal Eden has the prettiest mix of pearl pink rose gold, bright pink (which I can wear as a blush), matte cocoa and sparkling purple. It’s definitely more trendy than I am used to but I think it’s a really pretty one. Out of all the Pat McGrath Labs palettes though I still think the best one is Mothership VII Divine Rose (swatches + review in this post here).

  • Pink Mystique
  • Temptation
  • Earthly Delight
  • Forbidden Fruit

Highlighter

Pat McGrath Divine Rose Skin Fetish Ultra Glow Highlighter

Last we have a look at the Divine Rose Skin Fetish Ultra Glow Highlighter which is simply stunning. It has an ultra smooth texture that melts into the skin. It’s like a hybrid powder gel. The color is a gorgeous champagne gold with flashes of pink and rose. It is fairly metallic but if you blend with a brush it’s not too shimmery or frosty. I think it’s hard for me to be truly impressed with a highlighter these days but this one is truly beautiful. I can’t remember the last time I bought a backup of a makeup item. I usually only do that with skincare or hair care I run through frequently. I am really considering a backup of this one. I would love it if she made more colors in the same packaging style and formula.

Pat McGrath Divine Rose Skin Fetish Ultra Glow Highlighter

Pat McGrath Divine Rose Skin Fetish Ultra Glow Highlighter swatch

Overall everything performs true to Pat McGrath standards with excellent pigment, lasting power, textures and colors. The stand outs for me are the new Divine Rose Matte Revolution and Skin Fetish Ultra Glow Highlighter. I do love the lip pencils but already own them – if you haven’t tried them, I highly recommend giving them a look!

That wraps up my review of the new Pat McGrath Divine Rose II Collection – hope you found these helpful! You can find the products available at Pat McGrath Labs and Sephora. If you’re looking to shop multiple items I recommend checking out the bundles available on the Pat McGrath website for some price breaks!

Natasha Denona

Natasha Denona Mini Love Collection + New Lip Liners

February 6, 2021

Natasha Denona Mini Love Collection Review

Natasha Denona recently launched her Mini Love Collection with new shades for eyes, lips ad cheeks. I’m thrilled to be able to share a look at the new collection today! She also added new shades of pencils in her I Need a Nude Lip Liner formula and I hauled a few colors from Sephora.

___________

Natasha Denona Love Cheek Duo

Natasha Denona Mini Love Collection - Love Cheek Duo

The Natasha Denona Love Cheek Duo has a soft cream blush in a pink coral cream and an iridescent pink gold shimmer. The cream dries down to a soft matte finish and while it’s more of a baby pink on me once blended it looks more natural and soft. The shimmery highlighter has a beautiful multi-dimensional sheen that flashes pink and gold without being too glitzy.

The product description says the Cream Blush in the Duo is the same as the cream from her Diamond and Blush Palette Darya (reviewed here). I pulled mine out to compare even though it’s pretty old and the colors are identical on my skin. The Highlighter in this Duo is similar to the Duo Glow in the Diamond Palette but the one in the new duo pulls more pink in undertone.

Natasha Denona Mini Love Collection - Love Cheek Duo

Performance-wise the Love Cheek Duo has excellent wear time and is easy to blend. The highlighter isn’t too shimmery and I think when layered they can give a lovely soft delicate glow. Swatch comparisons below to her Mini Bloom Blush (review here), Fenty Beauty Cheeks Out Freestyle Cream Blush in Strawberry Drip, Chanel Spring 2021 Blush Highlighter Duo (review here).

Mini Love Palette

Natasha Denona Mini Love Eyeshadow Palette

Up next is her Mini Love Palette. I love her mini eyeshadow palettes because they come with perfectly coordinated colors for a complete look. The colors in this palette all perform beautifully – there is a nice mix of mattes and shimmers. Quality and performance wise colors blend nicely, they’re pigmented, lasting power is good. I just didn’t like the colors for me. I personally do not like purple eyeshadows for me. They don’t mix well with my olive complexion.

Colors include a sparkling mauve pink, matte mauve, deep matte plum, shimmery pale pink and shimmery rose pink.

I Need a Nude Lipstick in Amorosa

Natasha Denona Lipstick Amorosa

For the lips there’s a new lip color called Amorosa which is a nude pink. Her nude lip colors come in a wide range of options and undertones, many are too light for my complexion, but I really like the look of Amorosa! It’s a nude pink and gives me a true-nude lip look. It is better if I pair it with a slightly deeper lip pencil and blend but I’ve swatched it below by itself for you to get an idea of how it looks. It’s creamy, opaque and has full coverage.

Below wearing the Natasha Denona Mini Love Collection including her Mini Love Eyeshadow Palette, Love Cheek Duo, Amorosa Lipstick. Top is from Revolve. For my base I’m wearing the Pat McGrath Skin Fetish Foundation in LM14 (review and swatched here).

I Need a Nude Lip Pencils

Natasha Denona I Need a Nude Lip Pencil Review

Last but not least as a nude lip lover I hauled some of her I Need a Nude Lip Pencils. Formula-wise they’re perfect. They have a smooth texture with high pigment and a natural matte finish. They’re not drying and glide on the lips perfectly. Lasting power is phenomenal and stays put for hours without budging or fading.

Color-wise I think these are best when used as a lip liner and combined with a lipstick + gloss. I know many of you like to use liners as a line and fill kind of product, like a lip crayon. For me these nudes pull too nude if I apply all over the lips. If you go to her Instagram @natashadenona and look at her Live Swatches highlights she has really helpful demo, application tips and live swatches.

For color selection nudes can be tricky depending on your skin and natural lip tone. A lot of nudes that I like don’t always work for you especially if you don’t have warm olive tones like me. My pigmented lips vary in color day to day. Sometimes they’re pink, other times they’re more purple, other days they look more brown. For me these lip pencils look really similar on my arm. If you look at the swatches on the @natashadenona Instagram Highlights you will see the colors have more variation on lighter skin tone.

She has her lip pencils labeled with a color code to distinguish the undertone (NP = neutral pink, NB = neutral beige). Colors I bought (please note they look so close on my arm in the photo but there are differences in undertone, especially when on the lips):

  • NP1 Natasha – light neutral mauve pink
  • NP2 Ilona – light medium pink brown
  • NP3 Julia – medium pink
  • NB2 Noa – medium beige
  • NB3 Dana – cool beige brown

Natasha Denona I Need a Nude Lip Pencil swatches

The two that worked best for me are Ilona and Julia, but they pull very light on my complexion. The Pat McGrath Permagel Lip Pencil colors in Done Undone or Buff or Structure work better for my lip tone and complexion for a natural lip (swatched here) – but these have more color while the Natasha Denona Lip Pencils are nudes just as the name implies. Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Le Lion de Chanel

January 28, 2021

Rouge Allure Velvet Le Lion de Chanel review

Chanel launched a collection of lipsticks called Rouge Allure Velvet Le Lion de Chanel ($42 each at Chanel.com). These have the classic Rouge Allure lipstick click magnetic packaging in a black and gold case with the tops embossed in a lion motif design. Luminous matte with a soft diffused look on the lips. Comfortable and weightless without feeling dry.

The formula is one of the smoothest softest mattes I’ve ever tried. Coverage is flawless and soft like velvet! Lasting power is very good and non-drying. I don’t detect a heavy scent although they are very softly fragranced with a super soft clean powder floral that I find pleasant and soothing. Color-wise they all run bold and dark on my complexion. Even the lightest color 227 pulls darker on my skin tone (Chanel B40).

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Le Lion de Chanel

There are eight shades of Rouge Allure Velvet Le Lion de Chanel available individually ($42 each) and online at Chanel.com there is a Trio Set available in a box with shades 257, 277 and 58 ($126).

227 Beige Rugissant – warm beige
237 Beige Ardent – pink brown
247 Rouge Impulsif – bright coral
257 Rouge Triomphal – bold red pink
267 Rouge Audacieux – deeper red
277 Rouge Fauve – warm red
57 Rouge Feu – bold orange
58 Rouge Vie – diffused rosewood

Overall I think the formula is a solid A+ for all the shades. Color range is bolder and more dramatic than I am used to wearing but still classic and chic. I hope they continue making more shades in this formula because it feels so smooth and luxurious!
