Chanel Spring-Summer 2021 Collection Review

Chanel Spring Summer 2021 Makeup Collection Review

Today I have my Chanel Spring-Summer 2021 Collection Review with a detailed look at the Les Fleurs de Chanel collection for spring. The collection is now available online at Chanel.com. I suspect it will trickle into retail stores and counters in the next few weeks.

There are a few repromotes in this launch as it appears the eyeshadow palettes that were supposed to  be part of this collection did not make it to the US. I don’t know if they will make an appearance at a later date or not. For now they’ve repromoted Warm Memories and a few other eye products to complete the look. In today’s review:

Cheeks

Chanel Fleur de Printemps Blush Highlighter Duo

The Fleur de Printemps Blush Highlighter Duo is the star of the collection in my opinion! It has a beautiful warm pale pink shimmer on one side and a soft coral pink satin on the other. I swirl the colors together in the pan and it has a really pretty soft pink glow. The texture/formula is the same as the Cheek Duos from Cruise 2019. It has a soft finely milled texture that’s almost creamy but definitely still powder.

Swatches and swatch comparisons to a few other colors:

Eyes

Chanel Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quad in 354 Warm Memories and Le Volume de Chanel in 120 Metal Terracotta

For the eyes they’ve repromoted Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quad in 354 Warm Memories and Ombre Premiere Laque in 32 Vastness and 26 Rose Quartz. (Original review here if you want to see more swatches.) The new color in this collection is the Le Volume de Chanel Mascara in 120 Metal Terracotta. This is a pretty metallic copper – on my lashes it gives a subtle tint. I think it’s a nice alternative to black or brown if you have lighter color hair or lashes. On darker hair like mine it will look more subtle. Formula performs just as good as the other shades of the Le Volume de Chanel mascaras.

Chanel Les 4 Ombres Eyeshadow Quad in 354 Warm Memories and Le Volume de Chanel in 120 Metal Terracotta swatches

Lips

Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet Extreme in 134 Eclosion and 136 Pivoine Noire

For the lips there are two shades Rouge Allure Velvet Extreme in 134 Eclosion (bright coral) and 136 Pivoine Noire (bright coral red). These are matte lip colors with an intense color payoff and long lasting power. They are ultra pigmented and adhere well to the lips.

Chanel Rouge Allure Laque 73 Invincible and 77 Dark Blossom

They’ve also included two shades of the Rouge Allure Laque 73 Invincible (repromote, swatched here and here) and a new color 77 Dark Blossom which is a plum shimmer. I really love the look of Dark Blossom even though it seems more like a fall color to me, it’s a really pretty soft plum. It is on the sheer side but you can layer it for more coverage.

Chanel Spring Summer 2021 swatches

Nails

Le Vernis in 883 Pensee, 885 Anthurium and 887 Metallic Bloom

Last we have a look at the three new Le Vernis in 883 Pensee (soft peachy pink with a very tiny hint of pearl), 885 Anthurium (gorgeous pink red) and 887 Metallic Bloom (the prettiest warm coral orange red shimmer). I was really surprised at how pretty Metallic Bloom was on the fingers – it’s a bright happy shade that looks much prettier on the fingers than it does in the bottle. Pensee is a nice soft peach but for me requires three coats for smooth even coverage.

Chanel Rouge Allure Laque Swatches Part 2

January 19, 2021

Chanel Rouge Allure Laque Review + Swatches

I have my Chanel Rouge Allure Laque Swatches Part 2 up today with lip swatches of Shades 67 Steady through 78 Tenacious. For quick reference I have all of the shades arm swatched in my first Chanel Rouge Allure Laque Review + Swatches post from a couple weeks ago along with the lighter neutrals on the lips. My full review on the formula, pigment, lasting power etc is in that post as well. All the shades can be found at Chanel.com.

I swatched most of the remaining colors (except for the last few deepest colors). These are done on bare lips. For skintone reference I’m a match to the Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation in B40 or BD41. Equivalent of MAC NC35, Pat McGrath Light Medium 14, Tom Ford Natural and Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion in Buff. I’ve lost most of my tan so I’m lighter in skintone right now than I am most of the year.

Color descriptions:

  • 67 Steady – bright coral
  • 68 Unlimited – bold orange
  • 69 Remanence – bold hot pink
  • 70 Immobile – bright red with pink
  • 71 Mythe – shimmery bold warm red
  • 72 Iconique – muted red with a hint of shimmer
  • 73 Invincible – bold orange red
  • 74 Experimente – plum red
  • 75 Fidelite – brown plum cream
  • 78 Tenacious – plum with a hint of berry

By Terry VIP Expert Palette in Paris Mon Amour and Twinkle Glow Highlighter

Happy New Year to you all! I have my first review of the year with a look at some items from By Terry. They launched a new VIP Expert Paris Mon Amour Palette* and Twinkle Glow Highlighter* over the holiday and I have swatches for you today.

Twinkle Glow CC Highlighter

By Terry Twinkle Glow CC Highlighter

The Twinkle Glow CC Highlighter has sold out most places but is still available right now at Beautylish. It’s a multi-dimensional highlighter that has a soft peachy rose gold shimmer to it with a very luminous glow. It’s not quite as metallic as the Becca Shimmering Pressed Perfectors but has that same soft texture and a similar vibe in how it catches the light and adds shimmer. On my medium tan complexion, it pulls warm and almost bronzey but still has enough contrast on my skin to be a highlighter color. If you’re lighter than me it will definitely pull more on the bronzey side. If you are darker than me I feel like the gold tones will be more visible.

By Terry Twinkle Glow CC Highlighter

Swatches below next to the Brightening CC Palette (back in stock and reviewed here) which has a softer shimmer with sheerer pigment and the Diorskin Nude Luminizer in 01 (which has a more visible glow).

By Terry Twinkle Glow + Brightening CC Palette Swatches

It has a smooth application even though it’s quite shimmery. Lasting power is excellent and it stayed put without fading all day on me. As lovely as it is I don’t know that I would call it a must-have – you can get a similar effect with other brands.

By Terry Twinkle Glow CC Highlighter makeup look

VIP Expert Eyeshadow Palette

By Terry VIP Expert Eyeshadow Palette Paris Mon Amour

The VIP Expert Palette in Paris Mon Amour has a mix of satins and mattes. I really like the combination of colors! It has a couple warmer shades that make for pretty layering but also has a good mix of neutrals so it’s not too warm. Colors include:

  • Matte white
  • Satin cool brown
  • Shimmer baby pink
  • Shimmery soft peach coral
  • Deeper dusty matte brown
  • Darker bronze shimmer
  • Metallic sparkle gold (works as a topper)
  • Shimmery wine plum
  • Shimmery sandy taupe
  • Matte ivory

The colors have a soft look to them but are easy to layer and blend. You can create a wide range of looks with this palette and I do think it’s one you can wear year round.

Hope you found these swatches and makeup looks helpful! You can find most of the products online at By Terry. They’re also having a pretty good sale with some major markdowns on the By Terry Sale Page.

Quick note that the highlighter was limited-edition and has sold out most places by now. I was able to still find it at Beautylish as of this morning if you have it on your wishlist!

I took some time off the blog for the new year but regular posting will resume next week! Stay tuned for more beauty newness soon.

Chanel Rouge Allure Laque Review | The Beauty Lookbook

Happy Monday! I have a look at the new Chanel Rouge Allure Laque ($40 each, 20 shades) today! These are Chanel’s new satin liquid lipstick with a lightweight feel and shiny finish. Coverage is natural looking with medium pigment but they can be layered for full coverage. Texture is light and smooth with a weightless almost airy feel to them. They’re comfortable on the lips with medium lasting power. These come with a beveled sponge tip applicator for an easy line and fill kind of swipe. Available now at Chanel.com.

In terms of similar coverage and feel these remind of the NARS Velvet Lip Glides (which I think are being phased out). Soft almost whipped texture, good coverage, weightless, nice satiny finish with a soft shine. Downside is they are not budge-proof and they do transfer if you touch your lips to a cup or mask (or anything else). I haven’t had a chance to give all 20 shades a full day wear test, although for the handful I have worn, I’ve been able to get very good lasting power. They have stayed fresh looking around 4-5 hours before I took them off for a snack. I do think some of the darker and bolder ones can get even better wear time, but the neutrals I tried wear very nicely on my lips.

Chanel Rouge Allure Laque Review | The Beauty Lookbook

The Chanel Rouge Allure Laques aren’t scented although there is a soft scent that is hard to describe. It’s exactly what I’d think a lip gloss would smell like – once on the lips I don’t detect the scent very much. Colors and swatches of all 20 shades below.

I wasn’t able to get all 20 lip swatched but here are a few for you. I will try to have the rest of them swatched on the face/lips by the end of the week in a second part. I just got a much-needed hair cut and my stylist added toner to help blend out the remaining highlights and it looks so dark now! Also wearing:

Chanel Rouge Allure Laque 62 Still

Chanel Rouge Allure Laque 63 Ultimate

Chanel Rouge Allure Laque 64 Exigence

Chanel Rouge Allure Laque 65 Imperturbable

Chanel Rouge Allure Laque 66 Permanent

Bottom line, I love what I’ve tried so far. If you loved the Rouge Allure Ink I think you’ll definitely love the Rouge Allure Laque. I feel like I am the only beauty lover that did not like the Rouge Allure Inks in the neutral colors. They barely showed up on my lips and did not last long at all, although the bolder/deeper shades performed well. I think these Rouge Allure Laques are a better version of the Rouge Allure Ink with better coverage (although still medium/natural), better lasting power, and a better glossy finish.

By comparison I think the Chanel Rouge Allure Ink Fusion (reviewed here) has the best pigment/coverage and lasting power for a weightless liquid lipstick, although the colors are matte and pull darker while the Rouge Allure Laques are more glossy/translucent.

The Chanel Le Rouge Duo Ultra Tenue (swatches here) has the longest wear for a liquid lipstick in the Chanel line, although the concept is different with the full coverage matte base for color and glossy top coat.

If you liked the NARS Velvet Lip Glides you will also love the Chanel Rouge Allure Laques. I know some of you loved them (just like me) while others did not like it because the lasting power wasn’t long enough.

I hope you find these swatches helpful! I have more saved on my Instagram Reels @beautylookbook if you’re looking for swatches in different lighting.

I hope you found this Chanel Rouge Allure Laque review helpful! You can find the Chanel Rouge Allure Laque available now at Chanel.com. Currently available in 20 shades. Also available in a Rouge Allure Laque Trio Set (with 64 Exigence, 73 Invincible and 80 Timeless).

Armani My Way Eau de Parfum | The Beauty Lookbook

I’ve been playing with some new fragrances this holiday season and one of my latest discoveries is the Giorgio Armani My Way Eau de Parfum. Armani has been a favorite since the day it launched and I’m excited to partner with Nordstrom to share a look at this beautiful fragrance alongside some of my go-to makeup staples.

The Armani My Way Eau de Parfum is something I would describe as a bright sweet floral. If you like tuberose and jasmine you will love this. It also has notes of bergamot, orange blossom, vanilla, white musk and cedarwood, but to me the floral notes dominate. It has a slight fruity undertone to it which makes it sweet, but not too sweet. Lasting power is quite amazing – just a few spritzes lasts all day long. It’s definitely one that lifts and brightens the mood – it’s a happy kind of scent!

A few of my makeup staples from Armani include:

Luminous Silk Foundation – among the best of the best for a natural glow foundation with good lasting power, medium coverage and a wide shade range! My match is usually 6.5 or 7 depending on time of year. I am wearing Shade 7 in this post.

Luminous Silk Concealer – one of the best opaque full coverage concealers that is still easy to blend. I wear shade 6.5 for brightening and spot concealing. A little goes a long way so you don’t need a lot.

Eyes to Kill Mascara – I’ve tried this in both the Classic and Wet Waterproof formula. Both have been staples for years for that defined volume and length.

Fluid Sheer – The Fluid Sheers were my very first Armani purchase back when I discovered the line. I really love Shade 2 for the perfect champagne glow. Right now since I’m more tan I like Shade 11 because it’s such a pretty soft bronze. I apply them as a highlighter on the cheek bones.

Armani Makeup Staples: Luminous Silk Foundation, Concealer, Eyes to Kill Mascara, Fluid Sheer

Wearing my favorites listed above. Also wearing the Eye Tint in Shade 44, Neo Nude Powder in 5.5, A-Blush Liquid Tint in 32, Ecstasy Mirror Gloss in 101.

Armani My Way is available in a few size options and sets. Mine is the 1.7 fl oz/50 ml option for $97.00 (retail). If you’re looking for a gift for someone who already has everything, you can’t go wrong with gifting them their favorite fragrance. It’s something they can always use! If you love sweet florals I think this is worth checking out.

Best of Chanel Makeup | The Beauty Lookbook

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday! I’ve put together a Best of Chanel Makeup roundup for you today. I’ve been such a long time fan of Chanel – it’s one of the makeup brands that inspired me to start blogging because I was so excited about finding the latest and greatest from them.

I intended on writing about the Chanel Good to Glow Cyber Monday launch but it sold out in record time and was completely gone within a couple hours! The good news is that the set included permanent items in the Chanel Makeup line so if you missed out, you can still buy the Rosy Light Drops, Rouge Coco Flash in Boy and Mirror Compact individually which I have swatched for you below. It came packaged in a red makeup bag in case you wanted to see what it looked like:

Chanel Good to Glow Limited-Edition Makeup Set (sold out, but items available separately)

Chanel Good to Glow Makeup Set | Cyber Monday 2020

I hope you find this roundup helpful if you’re looking for recommendations of my favorites. You can always click on the CHANEL category tag to see a full list of all the Chanel reviews I’ve done. Quick note that this post focuses on makeup! I like a lot of the skincare, fragrance + body care items but wanted to give a more edited list for just makeup.

Base

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation B40 BD41

The latest foundation from Chanel is the Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation. It’s a natural medium coverage glow foundation. I like that it’s not heavy or thick like the previous formulas in past years. I bought four of the shades and found that B40 (more neutral) or BD41 (more yellow) work best for me right now. It is scented so if fragrance irritates your skin do a patch test before applying. This has decent lasting power for a glow foundation – it’s not too dewy or luminous but I do set with a powder.

Swatches next to a few other formulas (I’ve linked my previous reviews, I have swatches of other shades in a lot of those posts):

Chanel Foundation Swatches B40

For powder the Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder is one of my favorites for a soft diffused glow. It’s a matte but has a slight translucent quality so you can buff into the skin to set your foundation. I use No 20 to set and No 30 or 40 as a warm-up/contour color. They did relaunch their Loose Poudre Universelle in extended shades this year. I bought 30 and 40 – they’re pretty standard and basic. While they work, they’re just not my favorite.

Blush

Best Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush | The Beauty Lookbook

The Chanel Joues Contrast Blush is one of the best for a soft hint of color. Most of the colors will give you a natural look that is impossible to overdo. My top four picks are below (click on the name to see face swatches):

  • Alezane* – best neutral beige with a hint of shimmer
  • Rose Bronze* – pretty soft rose with a hint of pearl
  • Quintessence – best soft rose pink matte
  • Foschia Rosa – best bright pink with a hint of coral blush

Highlighter

Chanel Le Blanc Rosy Light Drops and Les Beiges Highlighting Fluid

The Chanel fluid highlighters are stunning for a soft delicate glow. You can mix them in with foundation, apply them all over the face, or dab them where you want a highlight. They are sheer but noticeable on the skin.

Liquid Highlighter Swatches from Chanel, Tom Ford, By Terry and Marc Jacobs

I have collected almost all of the Chanel highlighters over the years. Most of them have been limited edition but I’ve linked the current powder versions available below:

  • Les Chaines de Chanel Illuminating Blush* reviewed here
  • Eclat du Desert Illuminating Powder* review here (LOVE this one)
  • Metal Peach Illuminating Powder* review here
  • Duo de Camelias* reviewed here
  • Poudre Lumiere* swatches here and here
  • Le Signe du Lion* reviewed here

Bronzers

Chanel Les Beiges Bronzing Cream and Luminous Powder in Deep

The Les Beiges Healthy Glow Bronzing Cream is a classic easy to wear cream bronzer. It adds warmth to the skin in a natural way. This replaced the original cream bronzer and while many say they’re different, I feel the new one performs the same as the original. Review + swatches here. I hope they add more shades!

Chanel powder bronzers are typically limited-edition launches with summer collections. I’ve been using the Les Beiges Healthy Glow Luminous Powder in Deep as a bronzer and love it! I didn’t like the lighter shades as a setting powder on my skin, but the darker ones seem to work well for me as a powder bronzer that isn’t too harsh or orange.

Eye Makeup

For the eyes, here are my favorites:

Rouge Coco Flash

Rouge Coco Gloss

The Rouge Coco Gloss is a cushiony hydrating gloss with a lot of shine. These are semi-thick but smooth on the lips. My favorite one is 722 Noce Moscata which is a pearlescent beige. My other favorites shown above.

Also included swatches of some others side by side for reference:

Le Vernis

Best Chanel Nail Polishes Top 10 via The Beauty Look Book

Last but not least is the Le Vernis Nail Polish. I’ve been a die-hard fan of Chanel nail polishes for years. The current formula is better and longer wearing than the original version. I’ve done a number of posts with swatches and love them for the classic colors and long wear. I wear Organdi and Vamp the most. For a few roundups + swatches:

EM Cosmetics Review + Swatches

By popular request I have an overview of EM Cosmetics today! Several of you have expressed interest in seeing swatches and a review of the products created in Michelle Phan’s line and I have a look at a little of everything.

Eyeshadow Palettes

There are two colors of the Divine Skies Eyeshadow Palette ($38 each) in Magic Hour and Faded Clementine. These come in 6-pan mirrored compacts with a mix of mattes and shimmers. The pigment in each palette is beautiful. The mattes have a velvety powder finish that are easy to blend. Shimmers have a pretty multi-dimensional finish that is smooth and soft.

Magic Hour has a mix of softer pinks, tans, shimmery pearls and pink-gold tones. This one is my favorite of the two.

EM Cosmetics Divine Skies Eyeshadow Palette Magic Hour

Faded Clementine looks like a sunset. It has a mix of tangerine, plum, berry and peach. It looks intense but is surprisingly wearable even for my neutral-loving self. It does take some layering and blending, but it is pretty!

EM Cosmetics Divine Skies Eyeshadow Palette Faded Clementine

Swatches below:

Eye Makeup Basics

EM Cosmetics Eye Makeup

I tried three of the EM Cosmetics eye basics. These are no-fuss easy to use staples. The Pick Me Up Volume + Length Mascara ($24) is a lengthening mascara in a tubing formula (takes a few uses to get it going). I loved that it did not smudge on me and adds serious length, but it does not always hold the curl.

The Flexibrow Clear Brow Gel ($20) is a nice clear brow gel to hold the brows in place.

The Illustrative Liquid Eyeliner ($32) comes in two shades, Black and Brown. I tried the Brush tip version and LOVE it (I actually prefer this format in general). It has a glossy finish that dries quickly and is completely smudge-proof. I highly recommend it.

You can also find all three in one of their Holiday Cozy Essentials Set ($50) which comes at a value price in a cute pink bag.

Cheeks

EM Cosmetics Cheek Products Blush

For cheeks there are two shades of Heaven’s Glow Radiant Veil Blush ($34). This is a powder formula with a soft luminous glow. Magic Hour is a soft rose and Faded Clementine is a tangerine. I think both are easy to wear with good lasting power.

The Color Drops Serum Blush ($25) is a liquid serum formula with a sheer dewy finish. Venetian Rose is a mauve rose that is easy to blend and layer. Lasting power is pretty good for a liquid product. It comes with a dropper applicator and gives a glowy dewy look. (I’m ordering Pink Nectar today!).

EM Cosmetics Heavens Glow Blush Swatches

Foundation

EM Cosmetics Daydream Cushion Foundation

The Daydream Cushion Foundation ($48) is one of the best cushions I’ve tried. It has SPF50 and is available in six shades. I am in between shades of Sweet Secret and Summer Hue – if I mix them I get my exact match. I love this formula because it’s not overly dewy or too luminous. It has perfect flawless natural coverage that melts into the skin. Lasting power is really good when set with a powder. It covers uneven areas without looking cakey or heavy. This is a solid A+ formula-wise. I hope they expand the color range!

EM Cosmetics Daydream Cushion Foundation swatches

Lip Gloss

EM Cosmetics Lip Glosses

The lip products are the stand outs for me. They have a nice everyday kind of clear gloss called Morning Dew Crystal Lip Gloss. For color the True Gloss formula ($20 each) is a unique almost whipped kind of cushiony gloss with a plumping effect. Color has a watercolor wash effect on the lips.

Lip Cushion

EM Cosmetics Lip Cushions

I’ve saved the best for last because I am COMPLETELY obsessed with the Lip Cushion Tinted Lip Luminizers ($22) and Soft Blur Velvet Lip Liners ($19). It’s rare that I will say anything is a MUST try because of dupes or similar options, but I think both of these are musts.

Every single color of Lip Cushion is beautiful and wearable. They’re luminous, hydrating and give the lips a lush look. Magic Hour is my favorite for that perfect peachy pink. Lasting power isn’t going to be long because it’s a glossy kind of product, but it’s one I don’t mind reapplying.

Venetian Rose is a soft mauve, Angele is a bright flattering pink, Mystic is a pretty plum, Faded Clementine is an orange but a wearable orange. They are all creams (as in no shimmer). Below also wearing:

EM Cosmetics Soft Blur Velvet Lip Liner

Finally we have a look at the Soft Blur Velvet Lip Liner ($19) which is the best lip liner formula I’ve ever tried. It’s opaque but glides onto the lips flawlessly – there is absolutely no feathering or tugging and I think every single color is wearable.
