Chanel launched a collection of lipsticks called Rouge Allure Velvet Le Lion de Chanel ($42 each at Chanel.com). These have the classic Rouge Allure lipstick click magnetic packaging in a black and gold case with the tops embossed in a lion motif design. Luminous matte with a soft diffused look on the lips. Comfortable and weightless without feeling dry.
The formula is one of the smoothest softest mattes I’ve ever tried. Coverage is flawless and soft like velvet! Lasting power is very good and non-drying. I don’t detect a heavy scent although they are very softly fragranced with a super soft clean powder floral that I find pleasant and soothing. Color-wise they all run bold and dark on my complexion. Even the lightest color 227 pulls darker on my skin tone (Chanel B40).
Overall I think the formula is a solid A+ for all the shades. Color range is bolder and more dramatic than I am used to wearing but still classic and chic. I hope they continue making more shades in this formula because it feels so smooth and luxurious!
Happy Monday! I have a look at the new Chanel Rouge Allure Laque ($40 each, 20 shades) today! These are Chanel’s new satin liquid lipstick with a lightweight feel and shiny finish. Coverage is natural looking with medium pigment but they can be layered for full coverage. Texture is light and smooth with a weightless almost airy feel to them. They’re comfortable on the lips with medium lasting power. These come with a beveled sponge tip applicator for an easy line and fill kind of swipe. Available now at Chanel.com.
In terms of similar coverage and feel these remind of the NARS Velvet Lip Glides (which I think are being phased out). Soft almost whipped texture, good coverage, weightless, nice satiny finish with a soft shine. Downside is they are not budge-proof and they do transfer if you touch your lips to a cup or mask (or anything else). I haven’t had a chance to give all 20 shades a full day wear test, although for the handful I have worn, I’ve been able to get very good lasting power. They have stayed fresh looking around 4-5 hours before I took them off for a snack. I do think some of the darker and bolder ones can get even better wear time, but the neutrals I tried wear very nicely on my lips.
The Chanel Rouge Allure Laques aren’t scented although there is a soft scent that is hard to describe. It’s exactly what I’d think a lip gloss would smell like – once on the lips I don’t detect the scent very much. Colors and swatches of all 20 shades below.
70 Immobile – bright red with pink
71 Mythe – shimmery bold warm red
72 Iconique – muted red with a hint of shimmer
73 Invincible – bold orange red
74 Experimente – plum red
75 Fidelite – brown plum cream
78 Tenacious – plum with a hint of berry
79 Eternite – deeper plum
80 Timeless – reddish plum
81 Obstination – blackened plum

I wasn’t able to get all 20 lip swatched but here are a few for you. I will try to have the rest of them swatched on the face/lips by the end of the week in a second part. I just got a much-needed hair cut and my stylist added toner to help blend out the remaining highlights and it looks so dark now! Also wearing:
Bottom line, I love what I’ve tried so far. If you loved the Rouge Allure Ink I think you’ll definitely love the Rouge Allure Laque. I feel like I am the only beauty lover that did not like the Rouge Allure Inks in the neutral colors. They barely showed up on my lips and did not last long at all, although the bolder/deeper shades performed well. I think these Rouge Allure Laques are a better version of the Rouge Allure Ink with better coverage (although still medium/natural), better lasting power, and a better glossy finish.
By comparison I think the Chanel Rouge Allure Ink Fusion (reviewed here) has the best pigment/coverage and lasting power for a weightless liquid lipstick, although the colors are matte and pull darker while the Rouge Allure Laques are more glossy/translucent.
The Chanel Le Rouge Duo Ultra Tenue (swatches here) has the longest wear for a liquid lipstick in the Chanel line, although the concept is different with the full coverage matte base for color and glossy top coat.
If you liked the NARS Velvet Lip Glides you will also love the Chanel Rouge Allure Laques. I know some of you loved them (just like me) while others did not like it because the lasting power wasn’t long enough.
I hope you find these swatches helpful! I have more saved on my Instagram Reels @beautylookbook if you’re looking for swatches in different lighting.
I hope you found this Chanel Rouge Allure Laque review helpful! You can find the Chanel Rouge Allure Laque available now at Chanel.com. Currently available in 20 shades. Also available in a Rouge Allure Laque Trio Set (with 64 Exigence, 73 Invincible and 80 Timeless).
10 shades provided by Chanel for review, 10 purchased by me.
This year the Chanel Black Friday 2020 launch is a new Rouge Coco Flash in Coco Club 136 ($38). It’s a smooth glossy berry shimmer that flashes both plum and red at the same time. Pigment is full and opaque but with a tiny bit of translucent finish with the shine. On my lips and complexion reds and plums tend to pull bright fuchsia red and this is the case with this color. If you find reds pull more true to the tube color you will find it more on the red-plum side. Coco Club is a classic glam color. For me – I tend to gravitate towards pinks or corals for brighter shades this one pulls more dressy. You can find this now at Chanel.com.
Finish is glossy but it stays put for several hours before fading. To extend the wear or help keep it in place I recommend using a lip liner. I wore this by itself for the post. If you’re looking for a Chanel Lip Liner, I swatched their new Le Crayon Levres Longwear Lip Pencils earlier this spring here.
Quality, lasting power, pigment and shine are a solid A+. You can find the Chanel Rogue Coco Flash in Coco Club available now online at Chanel.com. What do you think? Will you be ordering this one? Stay tuned for a look a their Cyber Monday launch coming soon!

Victoria Beckham Posh Lipsticks recently launched and I could not be more excited! She launched nine colors of hydrating lipsticks and I ordered six of them from her website Victoria Beckham Beauty. The lipsticks seem to be an exclusive on her website for the time being, but you can also find her products at a few other places like Violet Grey and Net-A-Porter. Her Posh Lipsticks come in a slim twist up tube and retail for $38 each.
The formula is ultra smooth and creamy. They glide on the lips in a beautiful way and have a slight waxy feel. I would say coverage is sheer-medium with most of the colors except the darker ones which have medium pigment. A few swipes back and forth covers the lip entirely with a natural sheen. Finish-wise I would say they’re somewhere in between lightweight and heavy – but they are really comfortable. Lasting power is ok – they fade within a few hours but these days I don’t mind something that doesn’t last super long since I have to take off lip color anyways anytime I wear a mask. To extend the wear or have more pigment, I’d definitely recommend layering with a lip pencil.
I skipped the lightest shade, the red and one of the browns. All the colors are creams (no shimmer). I think they’re beautiful everyday kinds of classics! I have a lot of natural pigment in my lips so if your lips aren’t as dark, these will show up a lot better on your lips/complexion. While I was able to get full coverage I still feel like my natural lip showed through a little.
Tee – ATM Schoolboy Tee (my favorite basic tee that doesn’t shrink in the wash)
Nail Polishes – Chanel Le Vernis in Egerie (pink peach) and Organdi (nude pink) – I shot these photos over the course of a few different days and had switched up the polish
_________
Below top to bottom: Spice, Girl, Pout, Sway, Pose and Play
Girl and Pout are both a bit too light for my natural lip color but if I wear a lip pencil underneath and blend first I can make them work. I love the look of Spice even though it pulls a bit brown on my skin. My favorites are Pose and Sway. Based on my swatching experience I think Fringe (a brown shade I skipped) might have been a good one too!
Overall experience is positive for me and I’m happy with my haul picks. I love the sleek slim packaging and even though these are on the spendy side I do think they were worth ordering. I would have liked to see more color options in the medium color range (versus the pale or deep end) – but I think this is a great start to the lineup. They perform well, texture is beautiful, pigment is sheer but lovely. They’re a great no-fuss kind of classic lip that offers hydration and sheer medium coverage.
Formula-wise I wouldn’t call these the best of the best simply because I prefer colors with a little more pigment but I think they are very good. For me my heart still belongs to the Pat McGrath lineup because of the color selection and pigment. I also prefer the Chantecaille Lip Veils (for pigment and color selection).
You can find the Victoria Beckham Beauty Lipsticks available online at her website Victoria Beckham Beauty. Have you tried any of these yet? What did you think?
I have a Hermes Lipstick Haul to share today! The launch of three new limited-edition colors combined with numerous messages about this formula pushed me over the edge to splurge on these lipsticks. After extensive testing I have a review and swatches of the Rouge Hermes Lipsticks in three formulas: Satin, Lip Shine and Matte. I ordered all of these sight unseen and am very happy with all the colors I picked.
The Rouge Hermes Lipstick retails for $67 each in the US, however the new limited-edition shades for fall are priced at $72. The lipsticks are refillable and the refills are available at the Hermes website and stores. Each lipstick is cased in a bright orange box and mini canvas-like pouch.
Most of the colors I bought far exceeded my expectations. The colors are really pretty, formula is comfortable and lightweight in feel. To me these are unscented but I put them close to my nose and can smell a tiny bit of sweetness but it’s really subtle – I did not notice anything when I applied them. Lasting power is pretty good too! I love the simple and sleek packaging.
I bought 7 shades total in Rose Ombre (satin), Rose Pommette (satin), Rose Nuit (matte), Poppy Lip Shine, Rose Boise (matte), Rose Encens (satin), Beige Tadelakt (satin).
Swatched below, Rose Nuit and Rose Boise look similar on my arm. Rose Ombre and Rose Encens also are close. The difference is more noticeable on the lips (scroll down for face photos).
Rouge Hermes Fall 2020 Shades
I think the three colors for fall are the stand outs for me. They are priced higher than the colors in the regular lineup and have different colored bases for the packaging:
Rose Ombre (Satin Lipstick) is the prettiest soft pink with a hint of mauve tones, it’s very wearable even though it pulls more cool-toned, I wish they would make this one permanent. It’s a super flattering natural rose color with medium coverage.
Rose Pommette (Satin Lipstick) is a brighter rose pink, formula has a subtle sheen to the finish.
Rose Nuit (Matte Lipstick) is a velvety warm pink. It’s both muted and bright at the same time on my skin.
The satin formula feels smooth and like second skin. They have a slight sheen to the finish and make the lips look like they have a little gloss/shine to them. The matte in the fall collection has a lightweight feel to it but has full coverage. It glides on seamlessly and has good lasting power.
Beige Tadelakt (Satin Lipstick) is a peachy soft coral neutral, it’s a creamy warm color that is bright but not too bright.
Rose Encens (Satin Lipstick) is a soft muted pink, it is similar to Rose Ombre on my skin, the difference is Rose Encens is more neutral and warmer in color while the fall Rose Ombre pulls more mauve/cool.
Rose Boise (Matte Lipstick) is a medium rosewood, this pulls darker and cooler on the skin than Rose Nuit even though the arm swatches look close. For me this one had a little bit of texture in the tube, on the lips it’s still a lightweight smooth matte, I felt the fall matte formula felt a lot better than this one.
Poppy Lip Shine
Last but not least is a look at the Poppy Lip Shine. This one was sold out for ages and when it popped back online I ordered it immediately. It’s a bright orange in the tube but on my lips it goes on clear with shimmer. Part of me thinks this is an overpriced shine lipstick with shimmer particles. Another part of me loves how it feels lush and semi thick on the lips. The texture is smooth even with the shimmer, I don’t feel any particles or glitter. It does leave a noticeable shine with the shimmer but it’s not over the top. I like it! I just don’t know that I think it’s super special or worth the price.
That wraps up my Hermes Lipstick review! As many of you have messaged me I do think these are beautiful and splurge-worthy. I actually thought I had ordered a couple brighter shades and one of the reds, but in the process of moving things around in my cart it seems I ended up with all neutral-ish shades. Every color worked for me. If I had been able to see them in person I would have skipped Rose Boise and the Poppy Lip Shine, although I do think they’re lovely. I like the refill concept – I do wish that the fall colors weren’t limited though, I think they’re the prettiest ones they’ve launched!
If I had to pick my top three, it would be Rose Ombre, Rose Nuit and Beige Tadelakt.
Sisley launched a new gloss called Le Phyto Gloss ($55 each) and I’ve fallen completely in love with the formula and colors! These are hydrating lip glosses with a mix of oils including macadamia, shea and Vitamin E to help soften and nourish the lips. There are 10 shades total – 5 have a reflective micro sparkle shimmer and 5 are more of a non-shimmer shine. The Sisley team sent four colors and I was so enamored with them I ordered four more.
The Sisley Le Phyto Gloss comes with a sponge tip applicator. They are smooth and cushiony with a slightly sticky feel but not overly tacky. I cannot detect any scent or taste. They adhere well to the lips without feeling like they’ll slide around and last a decent amount of time for a gloss. I’ve been wearing these alone but you can also layer over a liner or lipstick. The glitter/shimmers have a tiny bit of texture to them but it’s not too chunky or noticeable after it sets on the lips.
These glosses are thicker in texture with more coverage compared to the Phyto Lip Delight Lip Oils. The new Sisley Le Phyto Glosses also have a little bit more pigment – coverage wise I’d say they’re medium. Not quite super sheer, but definitely not full-coverage opaque.
I think every single color is easy to wear and beautiful. After testing these I found myself drawn more to the deeper and brighter shades although I’m still a neutral lip lover.
2 Aurora is a shimmery soft light pink with silver sparkles
______________
3 Sunrise is a shimmery lighter pink, similar to but lighter than Aurora
______________
4 Twilight is a shimmering rose
______________
6 Paradise is a sparkling coral
______________
7 Venus is a shimmery nude pearl
______________
8 Milky Way is a light milky baby pink (the best baby pink I’ve ever tried!)
______________
9 Sunset is a sheer blue based red, almost looks more pink on my lips
______________
Overall I think these are a solid A+. At $55 each these are quite the splurge but I think they perform really well. There’s no settling into my fine lip lines, they don’t slide around off my lips, they feel nice and cushiony, colors are right up my alley.
My favorites are Milky Way (because it’s so hard for me to find a good wearable milky pink) and Paradise (because I love a good coral). If you’re super sensitive or picky with texture I do want to note that you can feel the glitter/sparkle slightly if you smack your lips together. But other than that it’s pretty subtle texture-wise.
You can find the Sisley Le Phyto Gloss out now. Available at Sisley-Paris, Beautylish, Saks and all other Sisley retailers. Have you tried these yet? If not what’s your current go-to favorite for gloss?
Press samples indicated with a * in the post. 4 shades of Le Phyto Gloss provided for review and 4 purchased by me.
There are new shades of the Tom Ford Ultra-Shine Lip Colors ($55 each) and I hauled five of them sight unseen online. As a long-time Tom Ford lip lover I’m always excited to see new colors launch. The Ultra-Shine Lip Color formula is a super saturated glossy lipstick. These are one-swipe wonders on me with an emollient balmy almost gloss-like finish. I ordered based on the online stock swatches and have to say none of the ones I picked look anything like the stock photos. The undertone is spot on, but all the shades I picked are significantly lighter in color. I was expecting brighter vibrant colors but I still like all but one of the lipsticks I ordered.
Quick note that some of the shades aren’t available at all sites so you may have to do a bit of shopping around. I found the ones I wanted from Nordstrom and Sephora. All the colors are creams – meaning they have no shimmer.
L’Amant is a neutral nude pink
Veridique is a bright but lighter coral peach (also shown here)
Du Ciel is a pale blue based pink
La Notte is a medium pink rose in the tube, on my lips it pulls more pink-brown
L’Eclisse is a soft plum mauve

My favorites are L’Amant, La Notte and Veridique. I applied them in the above swatch photos on bare lips but you can adjust the depth or tone with a slightly deeper lip pencil. The only shade I did not like was Du Ciel – blue based light pinks don’t really work on my complexion by themselves. Still the shade was smooth and I didn’t experience any streaking/patchy issues like I do with some paler lipsticks.
Based on a quick look at my existing Tom Ford lip stash I wouldn’t call any of the ones I hauled must-haves as I have a lot of colors in the same color family. I do think the quality of the Ultra-Shine Lip Color is excellent and true to Tom Ford’s typical standard. There are some fun shades for summer for an easy to wear look. I do really love the formula and think if you try one you won’t be disappointed with the quality and wear. In case you missed the last review a couple years ago, existing colors are swatched in my Summer 2018 post.
Part of me was looking forward to new bronzers and or cheek duos for summer but maybe all they planned was launched back in October for the Soleil Neige collection. I did order the new Soleil Summer Glow Tinted Moisturizer in Dune 5.7 but have not tried it yet. I will keep you posted as I put it to the test though!
Have you tried any of the new lip color launches this spring/summer? There were new shades of Lip Color and Lip Color Matte that launched too. I haven’t looked into those but if you’ve tried any, I would love to hear what you thought!
