Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Face + Eye Palettes – Rose Cashmere + Red Harness

July 13, 2020

Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Face Eye Palette Review

I finally got my hands on two of the Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Face Eye Palettes – they’ve been nearly impossible to find as they sold out quickly earlier in the year. They finally popped up online at Nordstrom last week and I ordered two of them in Intensity 0.5 Rose Cashmere and Intensity 1 Red Harness. Quick note that I’ve seen some color options sell out and restock online a few times. If you’ve had these on your radar and don’t see the color you want, check back online.

I just received my order in the mail so I have a first impressions review. I wanted to get up some quick swatches and thoughts for those who have been curious about them. I’ve also been testing out the Soleil Glow Tinted Moisturizer in Dune 5.7 and will have a more detailed look soon, but wanted to give you a quick preview here.

Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Face Eye Palettes come in four shade options. At $155 each they are crazy jaw dropping expensive. Each palette has 4 eyeshadows, 1 highlighter and 1 contour powder. The eye colors are all shimmery and have a similar soft metallic pressed texture to the eyeshadow quads like Nude Dip and Honeymoon. Contour and highlighter powders are softer similar to the texture of the Sheer Cheek Duos (current one Lissome reviewed here) and not as intense/frosty as the Skin Illuminating Duos (all 3 swatched here in case you’re curious). Quality wise these are excellent – the texture is smooth, color is easy to build, pigment is medium. Lasting power is really good as the powders adhere well to the skin.

Rose Cashmere / Intensity 0.5

Tom Ford Shade Illuminate Palette Rose Cashmere Review

Intensity 0.5/Rose Cashmere is the lightest color palette option and also the most neutral. The highlighter is a pale yellow shimmer with a soft sheen and the contour powder is a soft tan satin. On my skin the highlighter looks yellow and the tan powder is just slightly darker than my skin tone. The four eyeshadows are like my dream palette with a pale metallic ivory champagne, satiny rose peach, a shimmery mauve tan and a shimmery deeper light tan/taupe. I think the colors make for a beautiful soft wash of color and glow but there aren’t enough shades for a complete eye look – you will still need to add a deeper color for liner or contouring.

Normally I would add a blush for more color but I wanted to show just the palette on my medium/tan skin.

Red Harness / Intensity 1

Tom Ford Shade Illuminate Face Eye Palette Red Harness

Intensity 1/Red Harness surprised me – it’s warm but very wearable! There is more contrast with the eyeshadows in this palette for a more complete look. The eyeshadows include a shimmery pale cool moonlight, shimmery warm copper/orange, shimmering red/pink and a softwash metallic plum. The highlighter is a beautiful soft peachy shade with a hint of champagne and the contour is a cool medium brown.

Glow Tinted Moisturizer

Tom Ford Soleil Glow Tinted Moisturizer in Dune 5.7

Last is a quick look at the Soleil Glow Tinted Moisturizer with SPF 15. The shade range isn’t as comprehensive as the foundations and they don’t have my usual shades Natural 6 or Sable 6.5. However in some of the formulas I can get by using Dune 5.7 and  since it’s a sheer finish I decided to try it. It’s visibly lighter than my skin tone when I swatch it on my hand or face but it did oxidize a full shade on my skin so it ended up working for me color-wise. The formula is a sheer finish. When blended it pretty much disappears into a natural glow. I wish I could give this a rave review – I’ve been a fan of many Tom Ford base formulas in the past. I can’t though. The Tinted Moisturizer in this formula is not special enough, unique or pigmented enough to make a noticeable difference on my skin. I do like how it gives a natural glow but I think the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer does the same thing for my skin for a more reasonable price – and I actually like the coverage better (review here). In the Tom Ford range I think the Soleil Glow Foundation is a much better option for the same glow, more coverage and a better shade selection.

Above are swatches of the Tom Ford Soleil Glow Tinted Moisturizer in Dune 5.7, Soleil Glow Foundation in Natural 6.0 and Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer in 3N1 Sand.

That wraps up my Tom Ford haul review! I am still in a bit of sticker shock over the steep price tag of the Shade and Illuminate Palettes. I’ve splurged on many in the past and have loved most of the ones I’ve bought. I am happy with both of the palettes I hauled and will get a lot of use out of them. I have no regrets purchasing them – they perform really well and I love the soft washed glow they give. I don’t know that I can say they’re $155 worth it – but I do like them. I am trying to really love the Tinted Moisturizer and while I think it performs ok, I definitely don’t feel it’s worth the steep price.

You can find the Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Face and Eye Palettes at Nordstrom. I also hauled the Soleil Glow Tinted Moisturizer from Nordstrom as well.

Have you tried these yet? What did you think?

Lips Sisley-Paris

Sisley Le Phyto Gloss Review + Swatches

July 9, 2020

Sisley Le Phyto Gloss Review and Swatches

Sisley launched a new gloss called Le Phyto Gloss ($55 each) and I’ve fallen completely in love with the formula and colors! These are hydrating lip glosses with a mix of oils including macadamia, shea and Vitamin E to help soften and nourish the lips. There are 10 shades total – 5 have a reflective micro sparkle shimmer and 5 are more of a non-shimmer shine. The Sisley team sent four colors and I was so enamored with them I ordered four more.

The Sisley Le Phyto Gloss comes with a sponge tip applicator. They are smooth and cushiony with a slightly sticky feel but not overly tacky. I cannot detect any scent or taste. They adhere well to the lips without feeling like they’ll slide around and last a decent amount of time for a gloss. I’ve been wearing these alone but you can also layer over a liner or lipstick. The glitter/shimmers have a tiny bit of texture to them but it’s not too chunky or noticeable after it sets on the lips.

These glosses are thicker in texture with more coverage compared to the Phyto Lip Delight Lip Oils. The new Sisley Le Phyto Glosses also have a little bit more pigment – coverage wise I’d say they’re medium. Not quite super sheer, but definitely not full-coverage opaque.

I think every single color is easy to wear and beautiful. After testing these I found myself drawn more to the deeper and brighter shades although I’m still a neutral lip lover.

Overall I think these are a solid A+. At $55 each these are quite the splurge but I think they perform really well. There’s no settling into my fine lip lines, they don’t slide around off my lips, they feel nice and cushiony, colors are right up my alley.

My favorites are Milky Way (because it’s so hard for me to find a good wearable milky pink) and Paradise (because I love a good coral). If you’re super sensitive or picky with texture I do want to note that you can feel the glitter/sparkle slightly if you smack your lips together. But other than that it’s pretty subtle texture-wise.

You can find the Sisley Le Phyto Gloss out now. Available at Sisley-Paris, Beautylish, Saks and all other Sisley retailers. Have you tried these yet? If not what’s your current go-to favorite for gloss?

Westman Atelier

Westman Atelier Haul Review + Swatches

Westman Atelier Makeup Review

By popular request I have a Westman Atelier beauty haul review + swatches. I love the Superloaded Tints (reviewed last year here) and think Peau de Peche is one of the most beautiful unique colors I’ve tried! The most recent launch from Westman Atelier is the Eye Pods. They were kind enough to send Les Nuits for review and I loved the look so much I tracked down the Les Jours before the trio sold out (hoping it will restock soon). You can find Westman Atelier online at their website. I’ve also ordered things from Violet Grey, Credo Beauty and Net-A-Porter.

In today’s review:

Beauty Butter Powder Bronzer in Coup de Soleil

Westman Atelier Beauty Butter Powder Bronzer Coup de Soleil

The Beauty Butter Powder Bronzer comes in one shade called Coup de Soleil. It’s a matte powder bronzer that is super soft and smooth. Color is a neutral-warm matte soft brown with a slight pink tinge – it does show up on my medium tan skin (I’m usually around MAC NC35-40). It has a super soft powdery texture and blends in smoothly without oxidizing or looking muddy. I think it’s a nice one for a wearable lighter-toned bronzer. By comparison Tom Ford Terra is the closest and it’s a tiny bit lighter in color and MAC Radiant Matte in Beige-ing Beauty is close but a little more brown.

Wearing the bronzer on the cheeks, beauty breakdown:

Baby Cheeks Blush Stick in Petal

Westman Atelier Baby Cheeks Blush Stick in Petal

I have such a love/hate relationship with cream blushes because most don’t work for me in hot humid Florida. The Baby Cheeks Blush Stick is one of the better formulas I’ve tried with a creamy almost waxy formula that has a nice dry down. It is easy to blend and once it sets on the skin it does not feel super emollient or too dewy but still looks like fresh glowing skin. Petal is a medium rose pink that sheers once blended. Lasting power is around 4 hours on me before it starts to fade.

I also tried it on the lips and it gave them a soft washed matte glow. Below wearing Petal on lips and cheeks.

Super Loaded Tint in Peau de Rose

Westman Atelier Super Loaded Tint Peau de Rose Review

I love the Super Loaded Tint in Peau de Rose is a complex shimmery pink rose with white pearl. To me it has a more dewy creamy feel compared to the Peau de Peche/Soleil but is still easy to blend. It gives a shimmery glow to the skin and has a soft coconut scent to it. I think the Hourglass Vanish Flash Stick in Pink Flash or Rose Gold Flash have a similar effect on the skin.

Swatches of Peau de Peche, Peau de Soleil and Peau de Rose. You can see the other two on the face in this post here.

Eye Pods in Les Jours and Les Nuits + Eye Shadow Brush I

Westman Atelier Eye Pods

Last I have a look at the new trios called Eye Pods. These are individual eyeshadow pots with twist lids. The packaging is magnetic so you can stack them as well.  The Eye Pods have luminous formula with a velvety cream-powder hybrid – they feel like bouncy creams with a powdery dry down. Pigment is sheer to medium – they have a soft look on the eyes but you can build and layer for more color.

The formula adheres well to the skin making the lasting power is very good. Les Jours has a softer look with Neige (sheer pearly white), Tabac (metallic golden-bronze sand) and Chocolat (plummy bronze shimmer). On me this is very natural and glowy looking for a nice everyday look.

Westman Atelier Eye Pods Les Jours

My favorite of the two is Les Nuits which has Champagne (iridescent soft pink), Vin Rouge (warm reddish shimmer) and Noir (softwash faded deep grey black shimmer).

Westman Atelier Eye Pods Les Nuits

Westman Atelier Eye Pods swatches

I also picked up the Eye Shadow Brush I which I need to play around more with. This is larger than I’m normally used to so I found it a little awkward to apply and blend eye colors for my eye size and shape. It is well made of nylon fibers. If it were smaller or shorter I think it would be easier for me to use.

Westman Atelier Makeup Review

Overall I love the look of the Eye Pods! I think Les Jours makes for a really nice everyday kind of look although I think Les Nuits is more unique and prettier! I’m pleasantly surprised by the Baby Cheeks cream blush although I still prefer powders. The new Peau de Rose highlighter is quite stunning but it is very shimmery and I think can be duped with the Hourglass Vanish Flash Sticks which have longer lasting power on me and a better dry down.

For those who have been asking for a review I hope you found this helpful! I do not have a counter near me so I have been relying on other reviews on beauty blogs and YouTube. Although the in-person beauty shopping situation has completely changed with Covid-19. They started to open up stores in Florida and limit the number of people that can enter a store. We are required to wear masks in our area (although I think it varies by county). I stopped by the mall for the first time in a long time last week. Nordstrom has all the testers covered with a plastic sheet (like a plastic wall!) so you can’t touch anything. In Sephora they have signs everywhere saying “Do Not Touch” for the testers. If you want to see anything an associate will help you and they swatch product for you on a tissue. I haven’t even tried shopping at any other beauty place and most of my purchases (except groceries) are online.

More beauty reviews coming next week! I have a lot of nail polishes I’m excited about. More NARS newness coming soon to the blog. I just ordered the new Gucci Bronzers and Lipstick (they arrived today and look beautiful!). If you’ve followed me on IG stories I’m trying to figure out my right shade for the new La Mer Radiant Skin Tint (Medium is slightly too dark, so I’m giving Light Medium a try).

Going back to my post, you can find Westman Atelier online at their website. I’ve also ordered things from Violet Grey, Credo Beauty and Net-A-Porter.

Tom Ford Ultra-Shine Lip Colors – New Shades

June 24, 2020

Tom Ford Ultra-Shine Lip Colors New Shades 2020

There are new shades of the Tom Ford Ultra-Shine Lip Colors ($55 each) and I hauled five of them sight unseen online. As a long-time Tom Ford lip lover I’m always excited to see new colors launch. The Ultra-Shine Lip Color formula is a super saturated glossy lipstick. These are one-swipe wonders on me with an emollient balmy almost gloss-like finish. I ordered based on the online stock swatches and have to say none of the ones I picked look anything like the stock photos. The undertone is spot on, but all the shades I picked are significantly lighter in color. I was expecting brighter vibrant colors but I still like all but one of the lipsticks I ordered.

Tom Ford Ultra-Shine Lip Colors New Shades 2020

Quick note that some of the shades aren’t available at all sites so you may have to do a bit of shopping around. I found the ones I wanted from Nordstrom and Sephora. All the colors are creams – meaning they have no shimmer.

  • L’Amant is a neutral nude pink
  • Veridique is a bright but lighter coral peach (also shown here)
  • Du Ciel is a pale blue based pink
  • La Notte is a medium pink rose in the tube, on my lips it pulls more pink-brown
  • L’Eclisse is a soft plum mauve

Tom Ford Ultra-Shine Lip Colors New Shades 2020

My favorites are L’Amant, La Notte and Veridique. I applied them in the above swatch photos on bare lips but you can adjust the depth or tone with a slightly deeper lip pencil. The only shade I did not like was Du Ciel – blue based light pinks don’t really work on my complexion by themselves. Still the shade was smooth and I didn’t experience any streaking/patchy issues like I do with some paler lipsticks.

Based on a quick look at my existing Tom Ford lip stash I wouldn’t call any of the ones I hauled must-haves as I have a lot of colors in the same color family. I do think the quality of the Ultra-Shine Lip Color is excellent and true to Tom Ford’s typical standard. There are some fun shades for summer for an easy to wear look. I do really love the formula and think if you try one you won’t be disappointed with the quality and wear. In case you missed the last review a couple years ago, existing colors are swatched in my Summer 2018 post.

Part of me was looking forward to new bronzers and or cheek duos for summer but maybe all they planned was launched back in October for the Soleil Neige collection. I did order the new Soleil Summer Glow Tinted Moisturizer in Dune 5.7 but have not tried it yet. I will keep you posted as I put it to the test though!

Have you tried any of the new lip color launches this spring/summer? There were new shades of Lip Color and Lip Color Matte that launched too. I haven’t looked into those but if you’ve tried any, I would love to hear what you thought!

I hauled my Tom Ford Ultra-Shine Lip Colors from Nordstrom and Sephora. Also available at Tom Ford and Beautylish.

Charlotte Tilbury

New Charlotte Tilbury: Airbrush Bronzer, Air-Brush and Desert Haze Quad

May 28, 2020

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Bronzer, Air-Brush + Desert Haze | The Beauty Look Book

I’m back with a new Charlotte Tilbury haul post featuring the new Bronzer, Retractable Brush and Eyeshadow Quad. I ordered everything online from Charlotte Tilbury as they had an early product launch. The products are now starting to appear on other retail sites like Nordstrom, Sephora and Beautylish. I also have a swatch lineup of a couple other products by popular request as some colors have now appeared at Sephora, Nordstrom, etc.

________

Airbrush Bronzer

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Bronzer in Fair and Medium | The Beauty Look Book

There are four shades of Airbrush Bronzer in Fair, Medium, Tan and Deep. These are large refillable matte bronzing powders (pans are magnetic and there’s a hole on the bottom to pop out the pan). Online they have shade recommendations based on your Charlotte Tilbury foundation match. I am a match to the Airbrush Foundation in 7N and 7.5N (when I’m not as tan, reviewed here) so the best bronzer shade for me according to Charlotte Tilbury is Medium. I also ordered Fair out of curiosity also because often times “fair” isn’t always truly light in color, but rather just a light tan.

Formula-wise these are easy to blend and very smooth. There’s no patchy texture and it is easy to layer for a truly natural blurred bronzed look or soft contour. Lasting power is good – it stayed put without oxidizing or looking muddy.

Fair 1 Airbrush Bronzer

The Fair 1 Airbrush Bronzer is a close match to the Medium 2 Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder. On my skin the Fair Bronzer looks like powder. I was hoping because of the size that it would be a good alternate for the Pressed Powder since I hit pan frequently on the setting powder (it’s one of my holy grails!). I tried it as both a bronzer and setting powder since the ingredient lineup is pretty similar. The formulas are very similar in the fact that they blend well. The pressed powder is a little heavier in coverage on my skin while the bronzer seems a tad bit more lightweight. Color-wise the Fair 1 Airbrush Bronzer has a bit more cool tones with more olive so on my skin it looks a little more olive/greenish when applied all over the face. It works as a setting powder, but I prefer the regular pressed powder for all over.

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Powder vs Bronzer

Wearing below:

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Bronzer Fair 1 | The Beauty Look Book

Medium 2 Airbrush Bronzer

The Medium 2 Airbrush Bronzer is a truly natural looking soft matte bronze. Normally I think I might be able to go one shade darker but there seems to be a huge jump in between colors so the next shade up will most likely be too dark for me.

________

Air-Brush Retractable Bronzing Brush

Charlotte Tilbury Air-Brush Retractable Bronzing Brush Review

The Air-Brush Retractable Bronzing Brush is a super soft plush white fluffy brush for the bronzer. It’s well made and I think it’s perfect for packing in your makeup bag since it has a cap. I do worry it might be a bit tricky to wash but I really like it and think it’s worth the splurge.

________

Desert Haze Luxury Palette Matte Eyeshadow Quad

Charlotte Tilbury Eyeshadow Quad in Desert Haze

The Desert Haze Luxury Palette Matte Eyeshadow Quad is yet another warm eyeshadow palette from Charlotte Tilbury. It has all matte shades with a beige cream, matte orange brown, deeper warm matte brown and terracotta. Pigment on this one is amazing and when applying it from light to dark I thought it was for sure going to be too orangey. The deepest shade however pulls it all together for a more complete warm smokey sunset eye look and I really like it! Pigment is really smooth and easy to blend with a rich finish.

Charlotte Tilbury Eyeshadow Quad in Desert Haze makeup look

If you can’t do warms but want a good matte neutral palette I think Tom Ford Mink Mirage is the best one available right now.

Swatches below next to Charlotte Tilbury’s The Sophisticate and Transformeyes (currently discontinued, but it has made a comeback a few times, hoping it might return someday)

________

Collagen Lip Bath

Charlotte Tilbury Collagen Lip Bath

The Collagen Lip Bath is one of my favorite lip plumpers that doesn’t have an intense tingle. I wanted to swatch all of them side by side for you since all the colors are now available at Sephora and Nordstrom! (Pillow Talk was previously exclusive to Charlotte Tilbury.) Also added a couple other neutrals from the Lip Lustre formula lineup which I also love.

________

Beauty Light Wands

Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wand Swatches | The Beauty Look Book

Last but not least is another look at the Beauty Light Wands as the two Pillow Talk Light and Pillow Talk Medium colors have finally arrived at Sephora. I don’t think I’ve done makeup looks with all of them on the blog, but you can see Spotlight on the face here. Pinkgasm on the face here.

________

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Bronzer, Air-Brush + Desert Haze | The Beauty Look Book

That wraps up my Charlotte Tilbury bronzer haul! Hope you found this helpful. I really like the things I ordered. The bronzing powders are smooth and easy to blend for a natural look. I don’t know that Fair will show up as a bronzer even on truly light/fair skin tones as it looks pretty light to me. If you are fair and tried it let me know what it looks like on you! Medium works for a natural bronzer on me right now. As the summer progresses I know I will get more color from the sun so I’m not sure if it will still show up in a month’s time. As much as I don’t like warm or matte eyeshadows I was surprised to find I really love the look and finish of Desert Haze quad. It’s one I think I’ll reach for a lot this summer!

You can find all of the new beauty launches now online at Charlotte Tilbury. Some retailers like Nordstrom, Sephora and Beautylish have the bronzers. I haven’t seen the quad pop up anywhere else yet but I suspect it will launch at other retailers eventually.

Kosas

Kosas Cosmetics Roundup + Review

May 11, 2020

Kosas brand review | The Beauty Look Book

Today I have a full Kosas roundup and review. I’ve been playing around with the line for quite some time now and I’ve tested every product they have launched. Today I’m excited to share a closer look along with a list of what I think are the hits and misses. Overall I love the vibe and well edited look of Kosas products. They’re a clean beauty line which I know many of you are passionate about. You can find the full list of ingredients for every product on their website.

Tinted Face Oil

Kosas Tinted Face Oil Review Shade 6

I reviewed the Kosas Tinted Face Oil a year ago and my shade match is still Shade 6, but I no longer use this. This is not my favorite product in the line as I can’t wear super dewy products on the face. I can wear something that’s luminous but since this is an oil it’s very dewy and sheer. It’s more like a skincare product rather than a base. In the Florida heat this doesn’t hold up outdoors. You can read the full review, swatches of Shade 5, 6 and 7 along with before/after photos in my review here.

Revealer Super Creamy + Brightening Concealer

Kosas Super Creamy + Brightening Concealer Review

One of their newer launches is the Revealer Super Creamy + Brightening Concealer which I absolutely love! It is a really nice creamy concealer perfect for brightening and highlighting. I like it under the eyes – the creamy texture means it doesn’t cake or crease on me. It also has caffeine to help with puffiness which I always need help with in the mornings. I was sent a few shades to try. I like Shade 5 for brightening and Shade 6 for a closer match. It has medium coverage and is super easy to blend. I always set concealer with a powder to make it last all day. On me with a powder the Kosas concealer performs exceptionally well.

Swatches next to a few other concealer shades including NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer in Macadamia, Ginger and Praline and MAC Studio Fix Concealer in NC35 and NC40.

Color and Light Pressed Powder Blush

Kosas Color and Light Pressed Blush Review

For the cheeks I’m completely obsessed with their Color and Light Pressed Powder Blushes. I bought every single color and think they’re really easy to wear and incorporate into your everyday look. I know many of you are most likely more interested in the Color and Light Pressed Powder Creams – I skipped reviewing these as I tried a couple and found them too emollient and dewy for my preference. In general I cannot wear most cream blushes – it’s simply too hot and humid here for me to have them last!

Powder is the way to go for me on these, I like that they have a soft finish. Note that the highlighters for the regular duos look similar on my arm swatches and they are almost identical on me. If I look closely I see subtle differences in the undertone. There is a more noticeable difference in the highlighter side for the High Intensity colors.

Kosas Color and Light Pressed Blush swatches

The Color and Light Pressed Powder Blushes come in six shades, each duo has a blush color with a satiny finish (slight shimmer) and a lighter colored highlighter (also has a soft shimmer). On my skin the these are among the softest powders I’ve tried in texture and finish – they have a very melt-in-your-skin kind of feel. Pigment is buildable and noticeable. Highlighters are more like a diffusing powder on my skin. You can wear each shade individually, layered or mix them!

  • Papaya 1972 is a soft but bright peach and light ivory champagne
  • Papaya 1972 High Intensity has a deeper peach and brown under tone with slight shimmer
  • Contrachroma is a soft muted rose brown with a champagne beige shimmer
  • Contrachroma High Intensity has more bronzy brown tones
  • Longitude Zero is a soft cool rose pink with a light pink shimmer
  • Longitude Zero High Intensity is a deeper more intense pink with a more intense pink shimmer

I like Contrachroma and Contrachroma High Intensity the best. Papaya 1972 has a pretty brightening effect on my complexion but I have to apply with a very light hand or else it can turn orangey as it warms up on the skin.

10 Second Eyeshadow

Kosas 10 Second Eyeshadow Review

The 10 Second Eyeshadows are shimmer pigments suspended in a fluid. You simply shake the container to mix up the pigment and then apply with the sponge tip applicator onto the eyes. I think the concept is fun and unique but they aren’t the easiest for me to apply. I think creams are easier to work with, blend with fingers or a brush and layer with powders. These Kosas fluid shadows are nice if you want one wash of color all over the lids and maybe add a liner to complete an easy eye look. I do love the way Globe wears, but on my skin once it’s blended out it becomes a bit more diffused. Lasting power is pretty good with these! I kept the neutrals to try out. There are some other more fun interesting shades in the lineup but I’m rarely wear those colors so I gifted them away to friends who love blues and purples.

Lipstick

Kosas Lipstick Review Vegas, Undone, Stardust, Rosewater

Kosas Lipstick Review Vegas, Undone, Stardust, Rosewater swatches

I think the Kosas Lipsticks are the best thing in their line. They’re creamy and super smooth. Colors are classics that you can wear everyday. Of course I gravitate towards the neutrals but there are some pretty amazing looking reds and plums. Vegas is exclusive to the Kosas website, but all the ones are available at other retailers like Sephora etc. They have different finishes, some are full coverage, others are more sheer but still have good color payoff. They have a slight vanilla scent like MAC lipsticks. Formula is more hydrating but still lightweight in feel and they did not dry out my lips or make them peel at all.

I love that these have a magnetic closure so they snap closed!

  • Vegas is an opaque beige nude cream
  • Undone is a full coverage rose pink
  • Stardust is a sheer pink beige
  • Rosewater is a sheer neutral-cool rose pink

Wet Lip Gloss Oil and Hyaluronic Lip Balm

Kosas Wet Lip Oil and Hyaluronic Lip Balm Review

For hydration and moisture, they have two kinds of lip products. Their Wet Lip Gloss Oil has been featured on the blog a few times before and I think they’re excellent! They have a smooth glossy finish and feel with the most beautiful shimmer finish (except the clear one which is just clear). I love a good shimmery gloss and these are easy to wear.

  • Jellyfish is a clear gloss
  • Dip is a perfect medium beige pink nude shimmer
  • Malibu is the perfect medium pink shimmer
  • Fruitjuice is a juicy plum with shimmer
  • Jaws is the perfect sheer red

They also have a product called the Hyaluronic Lip Balm. There is a clear option and two tinted shades:

  • Rush is a soft pink
  • Pulse is a medium tan brown pink

Both are perfect for that healthy flush of color to make you look like a better version of yourself but still natural. The pigment is medium and definitely noticeable on the lips. They feel hydrating and smooth.

Sun Show Bronzers

Kosas Sun Show Bronzers

The Sun Show Bronzers are really fun shimmery domed bronzers with shimmer. There are three shades and they each have a pearl finish. Light is a light shimmery golden bronze (on me this is like a highlighter). Medium is the best tone for my medium skin to look like a bronzer. Deep swatched very dark on the back of my hand I didn’t think I would be able to wear this even with a light hand so I haven’t tried it. I may try it as an eyeshadow.

They’re super soft and easy to blend out. Pigment is medium but buildable. They melt into the skin beautifully and have a soft silky finish to them. I love the green packaging – it adds a fun touch to these!

I put together six different looks wearing a mix of the colors reviewed above to give you an idea of how they look on the face. You can definitely layer on the blushes or bronzer for more color/pigment. I have a medium tan complexion.

For my base in all photos I’m wearing the Laura Mercier Flawless Fusion Foundation in Buff with the Kosas Revealer Concealer in Shade 6. Face is set with La Mer Pressed Powder in Medium. Nail polish is OPI Be There in a Prosecco. Tank by Re/Done.

Kosas review and swatches

The top hits for me are the Lipsticks, Lip Oils and Hyaluronic Lip Balms. I really love the look and feel of the powder blush duos as well! Misses for me are the 10 second eyeshadow and face oils simply because they’re not in the format/formula I usually gravitate towards. I wouldn’t say either of them are bad, I just don’t reach for them a lot and prefer other formulas/finishes.

Bottom line, lots to love with some solid products to explore. I love the classic look of the lipsticks and how they are creamy, naturally flattering in a polished way and easy to wear for any occasion. If you’ve been curious about the line I hope you find this brand overview helpful!

You can find the Kosas line at a few different places online, I’ve ordered product from both Kosas and Sephora.

Wayne Goss Luxury Lip Collection Review

I’m excited to share a look at the Wayne Goss Luxury Lip Collection today with a first impressions review and swatches! As a long time fan of his brushes I was thrilled to receive a package from Beautylish including a preview of his entire lip launch. The items launched on 5/5 and by now quite a few colors have sold out but I expect there will be a restock. I was hoping to get my review up before the launch but I decided to swatch and lip swatch all the lipsticks and glosses and it took me forever! I hope you will find this a helpful resource. A lot of the shades are nude and neutrals – as always they will look very different on you if you have different skin tone than me. I’m very warm and golden/olive. The three products he has in his lip collection:

The High Shine Gloss

Wayne Goss The High Shine Gloss

The High Shine Gloss is available in 7 color options. Three are shimmers and the rest are more like creams. They have a sponge tip applicator with a minty smell. Texture is medium with a cushiony feel. I like that there’s enough density/thickness so they stay put on the lips. There’s a bit of stickiness to them but it’s not uncomfortable or heavy. Pigment varies by color, but in general I would say they run medium-sheer.

  • Tulip is a sheer beige with a hint of sparkle, this one contrasts with my natural lip tone and my lip lines show through, it works better on top of lipstick or a liner
  • Hyacinth is a medium peachy pink cream
  • Cherry Blossom is a medium pink with a hint of sparkle (on me it almost looks identical to Hyacinth, the difference is subtle on me)
  • Petunia is a medium nude pink cream (my lips but better)
  • Antique Rose is a sparkling beige with champagne and rose gold shimmers
  • Hibiscus is a metallic pale pink shimmer
  • Chrysanthemum is a metallic copper rose bronze

Texture is smooth on all the finishes even the shimmers.

Swatched on bare lips. Photos taken with a flash. The sunlight kept shifting so there are slight variations in my skin tone as I took them outdoors.

The Luxury Cream Lipstick

The Luxury Cream Lipstick are excellent in formula and among the best I’ve tried! They’re ultra smooth, comfortable, have beautiful flawless pigment and wear beautifully. I think they are just as good as the Tom Ford regular lip color if not better. There are a lot of lighter colors in the neutral nude category. They do look similar at first glance – but if you struggle finding the perfect undertone for a natural lip I think you will appreciate Wayne’s careful selection of colors.

Colors include:

  • Camellia is a pale light peachy nude cream with yellow tones
  • Dahlia is a peachy cream
  • Daisy is a light pink beige cream
  • Lotus is a beige peach
  • Magnolia is a cream pink
  • Lily is a perfect muted neutral-nude pink
  • Amaryllis is a medium pink with coral tones
  • Orchid is an orange terracotta cream
  • Carnation is a soft washed blue-based rose
  • Zinnia is a warm but soft red pink berry

Swatched below on bare lips, also taken outdoors with flash. I highly recommend looking at other YouTube or Blog swatches to get the best sense of how these look on different skin tones and lighting. They are creamy and have a subtle natural shine finish (which I love). Lasting power is quite good and while I have not been able to test each shade, I did try Lily for an extended part of the day – it lasted through a bag of chips, 3 cookies and 2 cups of coffee. There was some color transfer but it stayed put an in tact which was impressive.

The Essential Pencil

Wayne Goss Essential Lip Pencil CORRECTED

The Essential Pencils are products I haven’t put to an extensive test but still wanted to share swatches. I only tried two on the lips but in swatching these, they have a smooth non-tugging texture. Pigment is opaque and full. They glide on really beautifully!

  • Vintage Pink is a pale pink, significantly lighter than my natural lip tone
  • Natural Berry is a soft pink
  • Mauve is a warm pink
  • Sepia is a muted pink brown
  • Cinnamon is a dusty red

By the time I finished lip swatching the Lipstick and Gloss my lips felt a little raw. I decided to do swatch comparisons instead of lip swatches next to a few popular colors for reference. I hope this helps you! Left to right for comparisons are Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk, MAC Lip Pencil in Boldly Bare, Stripdown and Whirl, Pat McGrath Permagel Done Undone, Victoria Beckham Beauty Lip Pencils 2, 3 and 4.

Formula-wise the Wayne Goss Essential Pencils have the best smooth glide. There’s no tugging which isn’t usually a deal breaker for me as I apply liner in a feathering motion. I do really like the texture of his lip pencils and will be trying them out more in the upcoming weeks.

I hope you found these swatches helpful! I literally just received these so I haven’t been able to test these very long. First impressions are the Lipsticks are really quite phenomenal formula-wise. My favorite colors are Lily and Lotus. For the High Shine Lip Gloss I think the shimmers in Antique Rose are beautiful! I also like the everyday wearability of Hyacinth or Cherry Blossom (both are nearly identical on me so I don’t think you need both).

You can find the Wayne Goss Luxury Lip Collection available at Beautylish. I am hoping they will be able to restock the sold out colors soon!

Many thanks to Beautylish for sending the collection for review.
