Chanel Cruise 2019 Collection Lumiere Et Contraste

May 15, 2019

Chanel Beauty Cruise 2019 Makeup Collection | The Beauty Look Book

The Chanel Cruise Collection for 2019 is called Lumiere Et Contraste and just launched at Chanel.com. There are some stunning pieces for the eyes, lips and cheeks designed to give a luminous radiant glow. Swatches, thoughts + a couple makeup looks featuring the new pieces in today’s post. The collection includes:

_____________

Le Vernis Nail Color

Chanel Beauty Cruise 2019 Le Vernis Afterglow, Open Air and Purple Ray | The Beauty Look Book

There are three new Le Vernis Nail Colors that have that pretty light and airy kind of vibe in Afterglow, Open Air and Purple Ray. Application for all three is ultra smooth. They do run on the semi-sheer side so you’ll need to layer on a few coats to get full coverage.

Afterglow is a sheer neutral nude that has that secret Chanel shimmer in the bottle. On the nails there’s not really any visible shimmer. This is a sheer color so two coats will give you a barely there polish. If I add three I get a clean barely there look. Below is with three coats.

Open Air is a periwinkle purple glossy color. It’s not as sheer as Afterglow, but Open Air is still on the natural sheer-medium side. I applied it with two coats below. This is such a pretty soft blue-toned lilac kind of shade. I’ve been wearing it on the toes and love it.

Purple Ray is another lovely purple. It’s semi-sheer and below is the polish with two coats. It’s a soft light lavender and pulls a little more warm than Open Air.

Lips

Chanel Cruise 2019 Beauty Lips Rouge Coco Flash and Gloss | The Beauty Look Book

The Cruise Collection has two Rouge Coco Flash shades in Lumiere which is a sheer peachy pink and Contraste which is a soft mauve with hint of pink/rose. Both are sheer to medium in coverage. I can get both to cover my lip entirely but they have a soft sheen. In case you missed the previous Chanel post you can see my other Rouge Coco Flash picks here. Formula is glossy and hydrating. Deeper colors have more color payoff. Since they are shiny and sheer lasting power isn’t going to be as strong as a regular lipstick.

The team also sent one of the Le Rouge Duo Ultra Tenue Glosses in Warm Beige with the press package. I’m not sure if this is a repromote but Warm Beige is a natural lips-but-better kind of neutral beige. One end dries to a matte but slightly tacky finish to adhere to the lips. You add the other end which is a clear gloss as a top coat to seal the color. These stay put on the lips really well. It’s like a liquid lipstick with a gloss as a top coat.

Lastly there are two Rouge Coco Glosses in Fraicheur which is a sheer jelly mint green with gold shimmer and Aurora which is a hot pink with gold and pink sparkles. Both are pretty much clear and give the lips a very slight tint of color. I do see more color payoff with the pink one and it gives the lips a full lush glow.

Eyes

Chanel Beauty Cruise 2019 Les 4 Ombres Lumieres Naturelles Eyeshadow Quad | The Beauty Look Book

The Les 4 Ombres in Lumieres Naturelles has smooth blendable textures with medium pigment. There is a sparkling silvery taupe, a matte soft light cool brown, a matte medium brown and a soft shimmering satiny bronze. It pulls like a true neutral on my eyes and the silvery taupe makes it more on the neutral-cool side. By comparison the Les Beiges Les Indispensables has more shimmery options and pulls a little warmer and has a wider range of options from light to deep.

Swatched side by side next to the Les Beiges 2019 Palette reviewed here:

There are three Stylo Ombre Et Contour Shadow/Liner/Kohl sticks in Pure Flesh, Metallic Flash and Vague. I really like using the shadow sticks all over the lid and blended alone or as a base for powder shadows. The three colors are perfect everyday kind of colors that are easy to wear and have really good lasting power. Pure Flesh is a satin light peachy color, Metallic Flash is a shimmering taupe (love this one) and Vague is a satiny brown.

Last for the eyes is a new product called the Ombre Premiere Gloss which is a top coat for the eyes. In general I do not like eye glosses. I’ve tried some from NARS and Tom Ford and just couldn’t get into them. The same goes for these from Chanel. I think the concept is really neat and the effect is beautiful for a gilded high shine look. Lunaire is a gorgeous silver and Solaire is a beautiful gold. They stay glossy on the lids which is why I can’t really wear them – in the Florida humidity I need something with a dry down. Pigment is sheer and glossy but buildable. I really liked the way Lunaire looked – I wish it had a different finish because the color, even though sheer, looked really pretty.

Chanel Beauty Cruise 2019 Duo Bronze Et Lumiere | The Beauty Look Book

For Cruise Chanel launched a new cheek duo called the Duo Bronze Et Lumiere. There are two color options with a bronzer and highlighter duo in Clair and Medium. The formula is ultra smooth and has an almost gel like creamy feel but dries down to a powdery finish. There’s no detectable scent and whatever this formula is I hope Chanel makes more products with this texture. Both have a very beautiful finish with textures that melt into the skin in the most gorgeous way. They’re easy to blend and layer – I prefer using a full size individual brush rather than the small brush it comes with.

Clair is an ultra light duo with a neutral peach satin and iridescent pink shimmer. On me this one is more of a good finishing or mixing product on the cheeks. It’s too light to be a bronzer or contour on my skin tone but I did a look with just the duo to give you a sense of how light it is. I absolutely LOVE this one for the eyes. I also love this one mixed or layered with other cheek products including the other duo. Since this one pulls so light I don’t know that it can really be a bronzer for any skin tone even ultra fair but it does make for a very nice finishing/smoothing kind of color.

Chanel Beauty Cruise 2019 Duo Bronze Et Lumiere Clair | The Beauty Look Book

The duo in Medium has a satiny brown and a gorgeous gold shimmer highlighter. It pulls medium-deep on my skin tone and I wear anything from Chanel foundations in Medium to Medium Deep or 30 to 40 right now. This is a good one for sculpting or contouring.

Chanel Beauty Cruise 2019 Duo Bronze Et Lumiere Medium | The Beauty Look Book

I hope Chanel makes more of this formula in different colors. If they made this into a setting power, blush colors, more bronzers or highlighters I think it would be amazing.

Overall a beautiful collection for those who want a nice glow without looking overdone. I think the stand outs are the the Bronzer Highlighter Duo in Medium and the three Le Vernis Nail Colors. The Rouge Coco Flash lip colors offer a fresh polished look I think will be easy to wear for any occasion. The Rouge Coco Glosses are both clear but I find myself really loving the look of Aurora because it gives a soft tint of healthy pink to the lips.

You can find the Chanel Cruise Collection at Chanel.com now. As with previous years I suspect it will trickle out to other Chanel counters soon!

Chanel Les Beiges 2019 Collection Review

May 7, 2019

Chanel Les Beiges 2019 Review and Swatches | The Beauty Look Book

Chanel’s 2019 edition for their Les Beiges Makeup Collection has launched and it has some  beautiful pieces for the beauty lover who wants a natural look. Focus is on a barely there tint for the complexion with a new face tint and powder along with new shades for eyes and lips. In this launch:

Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint

Chanel Les Beiges Eau de Teint Water Fresh Tint Review via The Beauty Look Book

I’ve been getting so many questions about this new base called the Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint! It’s a very sheer clear gel base with tiny pigment droplets suspended inside. It comes with a pump dispenser and brush. When you buff it into the skin the droplets burst to feel like a water burst and this gives the skin a barely-there glow. This is a lightweight hydrating gel that feels fresh like skincare but isn’t sticky. It has a subtle scent to it much like the Hydra Beauty Skincare Line does but isn’t overpowering.

Finish is sheer and very glowy to give the skin a luminous finish, much like a glowy moisturizer. Chanel suggests using it three ways: as a primer underneath foundation, alone for a bare-skin effect, or as a touch up over foundation to add glow or even out the complexion. Below a closer look at the product straight out of the pump. The right side has 2 pumps and I lightly smoothed it out with fingers so you could get a better sense of how the pigment is suspended – once you actually buff it into the skin the pigment drops blend out.

Chanel Les Beiges Eau de Teint Water Fresh Tint Review via The Beauty Look Book

I tried it a few different ways: alone with powder to set and also as a primer with their Sublimage Le Teint on top. I think it gives the skin a beautiful very natural glow and even though it’s a gel it stays put all day without sliding off the skin or separating. I think it’s going to be a great one for hot humid months to follow. The brush is a really nice one to use for this!

There are six shades available and I found Medium is the best for me right now although it’s so sheer I can also get away with using Medium Plus although it is noticeably deeper on my face and gives me a sunkissed glow.

If you need any coverage this is not going to be the product for you. My freckles and sun spots show through completely even with layering. The formula in the beige rectangular packaging Les Beiges Sheer Healthy Glow Moisturizing Tint will offer more coverage but still be very sheer/natural on the skin. If you want more coverage but want that dewy finish their CC Cream is excellent. Since this tint is a Gel I only tried it on top of lotion-like sunscreens like the Tom Ford one. I’m going to have to experiment with it more, but I feel like it will not layer well on top of matte finishes. I’m going to re-order the Chanel UV Essential at some point to test on top as well.

Just the tint in Medium all over on the face (also have brow powder on, but everything else is my bare face):

Les Beiges Exclusive Creation Healthy Glow Sheer Powder

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder 2019 Exclusive Creation 20, 30 and 40 | The Beauty Look Book

There are seven shades of their new Les Beiges Exclusive Creation Healthy Glow Sheer Powder. I’m not entirely sure if this is supposed to be the same as the original Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour just in different packaging or if it’s truly different. The original has SPF 15 labeled on the product while the new 2019 version does not. I have three colors of the new formula that I tested and swatched.

The new 2019 version seems to have a stiffer texture with a more powdery dry finish while the original feels softer. Both are similar in finish and corresponding color although I do notice the new ones seem to have a more matte feel. Color-wise the shades are really close. When applied with the brush or any powder brush it has a sheer enough finish so the new vs original colors will look the same. When swatched with a heavy hand using an eyeshadow brush I see very slight color variations between the original and 2019 version.

Both perform well to give that barely there smoothed out glow look without being overly powdery. It has a satin semi-matte finish and I use these as setting powders. You can use the brush it comes with for a softer glow or for touch ups. I prefer a larger fluffy powder brush to set or contour. My shades are 20 and 30 mixed for setting (I’m in between colors). 40 is a good one for me to warm up the skin or contour. You can still find the original ones online. If I had to pick which one I think is better I feel like I prefer the original.

The new ones take a little bit of breaking in to get going. I’ve used older Chanel powder brushes and the MAC 140S works well too.

Les Beiges Healthy Glow Lip Balm

Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Lip Balm Intense | The Beauty Look Book

The Les Beiges Healthy Glow Lip Balm is a tinted glossy balm with pretty good color payoff. There are three shades that launched last year which you can see reviewed here. This year they added a new shade called Intense which is a deeper berry red. To me this feels more like a fall shade, but it’s still a classic kind of Parisian chic kind of color. These are really nice on the lips. Hydrating, smooth, glossy and they don’t slide off or feel heavy. Lasting power is very good for a balm, you will need to reapply and they will transfer but they fade nicely.

Les Beiges Natural Eyeshadow Collection Les Indispensables

Chanel Les Beiges Eyeshadow Palettes Les Indispensables | The Beauty Look Book

This Les Beiges Eyeshadow Palette is the star of the collection in my opinion and I think it’s a must-have. It has all the perfect neutrals in one palette and having 9 shades makes it super easy to wear. I’m hoping they make it permanent because it’s truly perfect for everyday. It has a mix of satins and shimmers. Pigment is excellent and smooth. Colors layer beautifully and I feel like there is enough variation so the colors look different on the lids when you apply.

Chanel Les Beiges Eyeshadow Palettes Les Indispensables | The Beauty Look Book

Colors include a shimmering champagne, soft satiny warm brown, soft neutral brown, shimmery deeper champagne, sparkling silver, satiny soft grey brown, shimmering gold, deep shimmery brown, shimmering deep brown copper.

One last look:

Chanel Les Beiges 2019 Review via The Beauty Look Book

Overall a solid thumbs up. There are some staple pieces that are nice for everyday. I think the eyeshadow palette is a must even with all the other neutral palettes out there right now. It’s a beautiful one with easy to wear neutrals for a soft or smokey neutral eye look.

I really like the look and finish of the Water Fresh Tint but love it as a primer for fuller coverage foundations like their Sublimage Le Teint. It gives the skin a glow but to me feels more like a skincare gel with a slight tint rather than a base. If you are looking for any kind of coverage this is going to be too sheer for you. I’m always surprised at the split in foundation preference from my readers. Some of you absolutely need medium to full coverage bases while others tell me you really don’t wear any foundation at all!

I’m undecided about the new 2019 Les Beiges powders. I think they perform well and are going to be nice just like the originals but the texture is different. I’m just a little confused on whether or not they are the same or different just without the SPF. The difference in the finish and color is almost indistinguishable – the newer ones just feel a little more stiff in the pan and more matte.

Mother’s Day is coming up soon and the weeks are flying by so quickly this spring! I still cannot believe it’s the end of April. We have a little over a week before Mother’s Day is here on May 12th so if you’re shopping early I have a gift guide rounding up some luxurious splurges! Chanel Beauty has been one of my favorite go-to lines over the years and I’m so excited to share a selection of their Mother’s Day Gift Guide for every kind of beauty lover. I’ve personally gifted Chanel beauty products to a number of women in my life all different age ranges and it’s one line that never fails to impress. Their nail polishes or their lip glosses always spark a lot of joy!

Makeup Gifts for Her

If you have a mom, mother-in-law, friend who’s a mom who has everything you can’t go wrong stocking her up on classic staples.

  • Chanel Rouge Coco Flash is still a relatively new lip formula and the classic go-to red is Amour. The formula is shiny and the deeper colors pack in quite a bit of pigment.
  • For nails it doesn’t get more classic than Chanel Le Vernis in Pirate. I’ve had this since the original formula many years ago. The newer one is just as good! To make the manicure last I really like the Le Gel Top Coat and it prevents chipping for around a week for me.
  • Everyone can use a restock of their favorite mascara, the Le Volume Revolution de Chanel is their newest one and makes a great one for ultimate volume or you can always opt for their classic Le Volume formula too.
  • For the mom who’s a minimalist with makeup and wants a very natural matte liquid lip, Rouge Lip Ink in Serenity is a very easy to wear muted rose neutral.

If you have a mom in your life who already has everything the Les Beiges collection for 2019 just launched! I will have a review for you very soon but am still waiting on a few items to review the full collection. The pieces I’ve tested so far are gorgeous and I can’t imagine anyone who wouldn’t absolutely love it.

  • Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Colour Powder has been a staple for years as a lovely setting powder that looks natural.
  • Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint is the latest all over sheer glow. I know many women don’t want any coverage and barely wear foundation. This is a great option for that all over glow with just a very slight tint of color.
  • For those who want to know what I think the best Chanel foundation is, splurge on the Sublimage Le Teint for yourself. I did and have no regrets splurging. It is better suited for normal to dry skin but I can wear it just fine with normal combination skin.
  • The Les Beiges Natural Eyeshadow Collection has literally every neutral shade you can think of for the perfect everyday natural eye.

Luxury Fragrance & Skin Treats

There are so many beautiful fragrances from Chanel. I know it’s very personal so buying for someone could be a bit tricky. If the mom in your life has a go-to stock her up on her favorite!

  • I owned Les Exclusifs de Chanel in Beige many years ago before they reformulated it into parfum form. It’s been a while since I spritzed this but it’s every bit as beautiful as I remember. It’s one of my favorite perfumes for spring.
  • Les Eaux de Chanel offer three gorgeous lightweight fresh smelling perfumes. Paris-Venise is a sweet neroli with a little bit of vanilla and tonka and soft powdery notes.
  • If you feel fragrance is too tricky and risky to splurge on you can always opt for the classic La Creme Main in Texture Riche (I really adore this!) or the Hydra Beauty Nourishing Lip Care. I feel like the hand cream and lip balm combo is a no-fail super safe option for anyone, even the pickiest of women!

Skincare to Splurge On

For skincare there are a lot of gorgeous options to pick from. Some of the most luxurious skincare I’ve tried is from Chanel!

  • L’Huile Anti-Pollution Cleansing Oil is a really nice silky smooth non-drying cleansing oil. It leaves the skin feeling clean without that stripped feeling. I have this from last year and still use it weekly. A little goes a long way and the bottle will last a long time.
  • The Sublimage line is hands down the most luxurious line I’ve ever tried. I splurged on a couple pieces for myself over the years and loved them so so much! For Mother’s Day they recommend Sublimage L’Essence Lumiere Concentrate to illuminate the skin combined with the L’Extrait de Creme to restore, regenerate and protect.
    • If you’re unsure about splurging on these individual pieces you might want to consider the Sublimage Le Voyage Set which has minis.
  • The Hydra Beauty Line has one of my favorite Face Mists. They add pieces to the line every year and the latest is the Hydra Beauty Camelia Water Cream. I put this to the test this past week and think it’s really really lovely. It’s one of the best lightweight creams I’ve tried!
  • For those who want firming Le Lift is a great line to look into. I’ve had this Le Lift Creme put on my face during a number of beauty events and it’s a really nice cream. My mother-in-law has been recently talking about issues with sagging skin so I think this is going to be perfect for her to try.

I’m bringing a bag of all the makeup items over to my mother-in-law’s for Mother’s Day for her to try out. For skincare and fragrance I’m going to let her pick and choose which items she thinks will best suit her. I love that she’s so easy going she will literally like anything!

For those who are looking for luxury gift ideas for the moms in your life or if you want to treat yourself I hope this gives you some good ideas at multiple price points! Gifting doesn’t have to be complicated or over the top. I’ve found sometimes picking one or two small things and adding a pretty bouquet of flowers or box of baked goods is super easy and fun 🙂 More ideas and inspiration on their online gift guide.

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash Picks + Voyage de Chanel Travel Face Palette

March 27, 2019

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash and Voyage de Chanel Travel Palette Review

By popular request I have a look at some of the new Chanel Rouge Coco Flash Lip Colors ($38 each) and the new Voyage de Chanel Travel Face Palette ($70). There are some really nice colors out for a pretty soft fresh glow this season.

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash, Boy, Flash, Live, Immediat and Jour

Chanel replaced their Rouge Coco Shine with a new formula called Rouge Coco Flash. The formula seem very similar to each other, I really cannot tell the difference except in the packaging and the newer ones seem to have a slightly more hydrating feel. Rouge Coco Flash has a sheer color formula with a high glossy finish. They’re smooth and hydrating with an emollient balm-like feel. These have sheer pigment for the natural lighter shades. The deeper brighter colors will have more color payoff. I limited myself to five and ordered a few to see how I liked the formula before committing to more.

These have that signature lipstick scent that some of the Chanel lipsticks have (like their Rouge Coco). It’s not overpowering or too strong. I can really only notice it when I take a hard sniff. They have a very glossy feel and lots of shine. Lasting power is not really there, but that is expected with a sheer glossy lip product. Color stayed on for around 2-3 hours without touching the lips to any drinks or snacks. Since these are comfortable I don’t mind reapplying.

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash, Boy, Flash, Live, Immediat and Jour Review

Colors I bought:

  • Boy 54 is a soft neutral mauve pink, I searched everywhere for the original Boy to compare, but I no longer own it
  • Flash 74 is a bright peach in the tube, on the lips it sheers out to give a pretty brightened peachy pink, this one is my FAVORITE
  • Live 82 is a gorgeous medium deeper rosy pink with gold flecks, the shimmer is very subtle
  • Immediat 84 looks like the perfect pinky peach in the tube, on my lips it’s very sheer, I had to do several swipes and layers for it to show up on me, but the color is really pretty
  • Jour 90 is a medium warm pinky rose cream

Up next is a look at a new face palette from Chanel. I received a press sample of the new Voyage de Chanel Travel Palette. Right now it’s exclusive to Chanel.com in the US. It has four cheek shades in a quad similar to the Coco Codes from a few years back. It’s described as having “baked powder” technology which makes it soft and fine in texture. It is a soft powder that gives a very natural effect. You can layer for more coverage. Since the colors are all close to each other without a separator swirling/mixing colors is most likely going to happen. Application is smooth and even. Finish is natural but glowy. Lasting power was very good – stayed put all day without darkening or budging.

Chanel Voyage de Chanel Face Palette Review

Voyage de Chanel is inspired by four cities:

  • Paris is a warm pink satin shimmer
  • London is a coral satin
  • New York is a shimmery brown
  • Tokyo is a soft champagne pink highlight

Chanel Rouge Coco Flash and Voyage de Chanel Travel Palette Review

Overall some lovely classics for the spring season. The Rouge Coco Flash lipsticks have a pretty color range for a fresh easy to wear glossy lip. If I had taken more time to look at the colors in person I would have picked a few of the brighter or deeper shades, but I did want to pick a few safe shades to test the formula. Out of the options I picked I can see myself wearing Flash on a regular basis. Jour and Live are also really pretty. As much as I had high hopes for the classic Boy shade, it kinda makes me look washed out.

The Voyage de Chanel Face Palette offers a nice glow to add warmth, color and a little bit of sheen to the complexion. It’s nice for those who want color that’s not overdone. I’ve gotten a little bit of my tan back and found it showed up well on me even with a light hand. I think if I’m a shade deeper it will still show up.

You can find the Chanel Rouge Coco Flash at all counters now and Chanel.com. The Voyage de Chanel Travel Palette is available at Chanel.com.

Have you tried the new Rouge Coco Flash or new launches from Chanel? What did you think?

Chanel Pierres de Lumiere Collection Review + Swatches

March 15, 2019

Chanel Pierre de Lumiere Le Blanc Makeup Collection Review

Chanel launched a new makeup collection for spring called Pierres de Lumiere. Right now it’s available only at Chanel.com and in the past if I remember correctly most of the previous Le Blanc makeup collection have been exclusive to their website and Chanel boutiques. This is the first collection in a while that has me excited about Chanel again! The colors are pretty and soft for spring mixed with some classic bold options for lips. I have swatches of everything except one of the lip colors including:

For the face the cheek colors are all about light and luminous kind of shades. The Poudre Lumiere in White Opal is a duo chrome pink violet highlighter. As with the other Poudre Lumieres it is on the intense side of shimmer for Chanel. There are a lot of other similar shades from MAC and Anastasia that have a similar effect, but this is the first duo chrome pink-violet highlighter I’ve felt I can wear without looking like a disco ball. The Les Tissages Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Beige has an overspray of gold shimmer. Underneath I still find a relatively shimmery blush, it has a lot more shimmer compared to other Tweed Blushes. On me it pulls more like a luminous blush on the verge of highlighter material versus a blush. I still think it’s gorgeous – on my skintone right now it’s like a flesh toned highlight. Both items have excellent coverage and smooth application. Lasting power is very good on the skin.

Chanel Les Tissages Tweed Beige and Poudre Lumiere in White Opal

Tweed Beige swatched with the overspray included, White Opal has no overspray:

Chanel Les Tissages Tweed Beige and Poudre Lumiere in White Opal swatches

Another look at the Poudre Lumiere in White Opal so you can see the shimmer:

Chanel Poudre Lumiere in White Opal

Chanel Pierre de Lumiere Les 4 Ombres and Ombre Premiere Cream Shadows

For the eyes they have a warm neutral and cool pink option for quads and cream shadows. For the warm options, they have:

For the cooler pink options they have:

I gravitated towards the warmer options. The Lueurs Ambrees is a super easy to wear kind of quad. It has all the shades you need for a complete look. Finish/formula is different from their other Les 4 Ombres. It has a softer almost creamier touch for the metallic colors. The matte is soft and flawless with decent medium-sheer coverage for a light matte. I tried the quad alone and also layered on top of the Cream Shadow in Gemme Doree and both application methods work. The Ombre Premiere in Gemme Dore is a sheer but buildable cream shadow. Once it sets it will not budge and has seriously good lasting power. I like that it has shimmer which makes it easier to blend and is more forgiving on my eyes once it dries. I can’t usually wear matte creams – once they dry they make my lids look dried out and wrinkly.

Chanel Lueurs Ambrees and Gemme Doree swatches

Chanel Les 4 Ombres Lueurs Ambree

The Pierre de Rose Ombre Premiere surprised me in a good way. I typically avoid baby pinks as they don’t look good on my complexion but this was a really easy to wear fresh pink shimmer. The Les 4 Ombres quad Cristal de Printemps has good pigment and applies well – the light colors are too similar to create contrast on my eyes. On my skin tone they end up looking the same.

Chanel Les 4 Ombres Cristal Printemps and Pierre de Rose swatches

For the lips I have three of the four options in the collection in Cornaline, Bois Rose and Corail Intense.

Chanel Rouge Allure Ink Cornaline, Le Crayon Rouge Bois Rose and Corail Intense

Chanel Rouge Allure Ink Cornaline, Le Crayon Rouge Bois Rose and Corail Intense swatches

I’ve hated the Rouge Allure Ink in every single color I’ve tried and I now realize it’s most likely just the light neutrals that have poor coverage on my pigmented lips. Cornaline is a bold orange and has the perfect even coverage I expected from the neutrals like Serenity and Lost. I know many of you love this formula and based on my experience with this newer color, I suspect that the darker shades are going to be worth a second look for me. Lasting power with this one is pretty good, but it’s not transfer proof.

There are two new Le Rouge Crayon de Couleur in Bois Rose (perfect neutral rose) and Corail Intense (bright coral). Both have a glossy finish with medium to full coverage. These are twist up crayons so once you start using them the tip will lose its pointy shape and flatten out. Many of you have mentioned that’s a deal breaker for you. It hasn’t bothered me but I do see how having a pointy or angled tip makes application easier for a pencil. Since the formula is so emollient and glossy it will fade faster than a regular lipstick, but it’s comfortable on the lips and I don’t mind reapplying.

The four items I was most excited about were the new Le Vernis colors.

Chanel Le Vernis Pierre de Lumieres

There are new shades in:

  • Eau de Nacre is a gorgeous pearlescent opal shimmer, unfortunately it’s sheer and requires at least 3 coats for the coverage I want, still I think the extra work is worth it, brush strokes aren’t too visible
  • Perle de Corail is another gorgeous metallic peach gold, this one is also sheer, I applied it with 2 coats and was a little disappointed in the finish, I think 3-4 coats would have been better, but I’m really not that into making a nail polish work more than 3 coats
  • Joyau is a perfect pink, it has that subtle shimmer in the bottle but on the nails looks more like a cream, it’s lighter than Camelia which is one of my favorite Chanel nail polishes
  • Jaspe is a perfect orange red cream, it’s not quite as orange or deep red as Espadrilles and Arancio Vibrante, you probably can get a similar effect with other corals but if you’re like me and have a serious addiction to coral shades you’ll most likely think this is a must-have

Overall pretty and soft for spring. Colors are easy to wear and nice for a fresh faced look. My favorites are the Lueurs Ambrees Quad, White Opal highlighter and Bois Rose Lip Crayon. For the nails I find myself really obsessed with Jaspe even though it’s really close to most of the other orange/corals I own. Have you checked out anything from the collection yet? What did you think?

You can find the Chanel Pierres de Lumiere Collection out now at Chanel.com.

Top 5 Best Nude Nail Polishes

Top 5 Best Nude Neutral Nail Polishes

By popular request I’m sharing my top five most worn neutral nail polishes. I’ve done a few rounds of my favorite neutrals in past years and these days I feel like it’s all I want to wear on my fingers. I’m constantly asked for neutral polish recommendations every single week! There are so many different definitions and variations of “nude” for polish. When someone asks me for a good everyday nude polish they can mean so many different things. Some think of a pale off white neutral, others a pink neutral, some envision a camel beige, neutral beige, pink beige, brown pink, mauve nude etc. What neutral looks like also depends on skin tone and how well the color matches or contrasts with your skin tone.

I like something that is lighter or a lot lighter than my skin tone. Something that matches exactly ends up looking like mannequin hands which is not a good look on me. These are my current top five nude nail polishes I wear the most and also always get compliments or questions on.

Smith and Cult Peaceful Paranoia is a neutral creamy neutral cool beige-pink that flashes iridescent pink. It is one that matches my skin tone fairly close but has enough contrast to give a polished look. Marc Jacobs Flourescent Beige is similar but something about the mauve-grey base didn’t go well with my skintone. More swatches of Peaceful Paranoia here.

OPI Machu Peach-U is the most perfect neutral nude peach ever made. I’m so sad it appears to be limited-edition. If you can locate it buy it immediately. It’s part of the Peru Collection and I think it should be made permanent! I was able to find some at my local Ulta even though it’s not online. You can still find it on Amazon.

OPI Tiramisu for Two has been a go-to neutral beige pink for years. I love that it has full smooth coverage and doesn’t turn or look yellowish on the hands. It has a tiny bit of pink/cool undertone to prevent it from looking too beige. It’s the perfect everyday neutral. OPI has so many great neutrals but a lot of them are sheer. This one is opaque which makes it a winner in my book.

OPI Samoan Sand is one of the sheer ones but it’s not as sheer as Bubble Bath. I still need 3 coats for full coverage but for a beige it’s really so perfect I don’t mind. Finding a good beige nude is hard because of the yellow undertone in so many. It ends up making my skin look sallow. This has enough peachy undertone to make for the perfect sheer beige nude.

Chanel Le Vernis in Organdi is the most complimented nail polish I own (as listed in this post here). It’s neutral and pink and just perfect for any season or occasion. It applies perfectly with just two coats. The Le Gel Top Coat is the best one to make Chanel polish last.

I wanted to add one more swatch for you since so many of you sent me Direct Messages about the spring colors from Chanel. I was pretty let down by the offerings this season (and last season too) so I only bought 2 of the spring nail polishes. Neither made my heart sing even though I really tried to love them. This Instagram post I did about the Bleached Mauve Le Vernis was one of my most liked posts on Instagram this year though which means it might be right up your alley! It matches two of their Rouge Coco Glosses which I love in 714 and 716 so I thought it would be perfect, but I’m sad to report that it did not work for me. It’s too brown/warm but maybe my skintone isn’t the right shade to go well with this. I feel like OPI’s Dulce de Leche is close but has a tiny bit more pink to make it more wearable. I do think the new Pierres de Lumiere polish colors look absolutely stunning based on stock photos. The entire collection just launched online.

Other recommendations:

I’ve accumulated quite a few polishes over the years. My 2017 favorites linked here. I’ve since found myself wearing the same neutrals more often on the fingers. Recent pink polish colors have been from the OPI Tokyo Collection which I’ll review soon (Rice Rice Baby and Another Ramen-Tic Evening are perfect!). On the toes I often do nudes or bright corals. I don’t have any go-to rule about mixing or matching nails on tips and toes, I feel like you can really do anything your mood calls for!

Hope you found this helpful for my top 5 most-worn neutrals! Would love to hear about yours and what your definition of nude polish is!

Have a great weekend!

Chanel Hydra Beauty Le Voyage Set + My Top 10 Chanel Favorites

Chanel Hydra Beauty Le Voyage Set Review | The Beauty Look Book

Chanel launched three Le Voyage Travel Skincare Sets on Cyber Monday and they’re still available for a limited time. For the first time I can remember Chanel has launched miniatures in skincare sets! Most of the time they are full sizes for makeup, fragrance and skincare in the US. I do think there are more options available internationally but in the US we don’t always have access to all the launches. I have a look at the Hydra Beauty Le Voyage Set which retails for $120. Online they also have a Le Lift Le Voyage for $185 and a Sublimage Le Voyage for $425. In addition since so many have asked I’ve included my Top 10 Chanel favorites at the end.

Chanel Hydra Beauty Le Voyage Set Review | The Beauty Look Book

The Hydra Beauty Le Voyage Set has two miniatures from the Hydra Beauty Skincare line and their classic eye makeup remover. Do note with the Hydra Beauty line everything has scent in it – something you might want to try before you buy in case you’re sensitive. I haven’t had any irritation issues using this line. Everything is available individually in full size form but the set has miniatures:

  • Hydra Beauty Micro Serum (15 ml/0.5 fl oz) is one of the prettiest lightweight serums I’ve tried, I used this years ago (when I still lived in San Diego), it has product encapsulated in micro droplets and are released upon application. It’s lighweight but helps your moisturizer to absorb better.
  • Hydra Beauty Creme (20 g/0.7 oz) comes in a super cute black mini compact. It has a seal inside to protect the product and prevent it from drying out and also has a mini spatula. This is so cute and has genius packaging. I’m keeping this and going to refill it when the creme is used up. I have not tried the cream before but did test it over the past week. It’s smooth and has a very lightweight feel.
  • Gentle Biphase Eye Makeup Remover (30 ml/1 fl oz) is too cute for words. This has been one of my favorite eye makeup removers, it doesn’t work the best on waterproof formulas, but for regular ones it is a staple.

Top 10 Chanel Beauty Favorites via The Beauty Look Book

My top 10 has changed over the years. So many of my tried and true staples were reformulated. I also found that my skin developed sensitivity to many of their foundations which have a higher alcohol content in some formulas. There are still a few that I can use without issue. My top 10 Chanel favorites. Press samples have a * but many of the items I purchased myself. You can find these at a wide range of retailers, I buy my items either from Chanel.com (because it always comes beautifully boxed and they sometimes have exclusives or early launches) and Nordstrom (because they have the best customer service in store and online):

  1. Les Eaux de Chanel in Biarritz * I love anything citrus and this is a beautiful mix of mandarin and lily, it’s more of a spring summer scent, but in Florida it’s warm almost the entire year so it’s perfect for me anytime, it’s also available in a Body Lotion and Shower Gel version which I have not yet tried
  2. Powder Blush in Foschia Rosa is the prettiest semi bright warm pink blush, review and on the face here
  3. Les Beiges Healthy Glow Luminous Multi-Colour Powder in Medium * is my favorite semi bronzer semi highlighter in one, review here
  4. Soleil Tan de Chanel Bronzing Makeup Base is the best cream bronzer for me, I’ve gone through a few tubs of these
  5. La Creme Main hand cream, review of the 3 options here
  6. Le Vernis in Organdi * is the best everyday neutral pink, review here
  7. Rouge Coco Gloss in 172 Tendresse  is the best pink for me, swatches here
  8. Rouge Coco Gloss in 722 Noce Moscata is the prettiest semi-shimmery neutral caramel, swatches here
  9. Hydra Beauty Mist is one of my favorite face mists, it’s super expensive but I really love it
  10. Le Volume Mascara Waterproof is a classic for me
