10 Things I’m Loving Right Now

November 22, 2020

10 Things I'm Loving Right Now | The Beauty Look Book

Sharing 10 Things I’m Loving Right Now today! A few of my favorite everyday staples that I have had in rotation lately.

Glowing Base Favorites

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer and Flawless Lumiere Foundation

For my base I’ve really been loving that natural glow. Two favorites are the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer in Sand 3N1 (1) and the Laura Mercier Flawless Lumiere Radiance Perfecting Foundation in Latte 3N1.5 (2). You can see the before/after application of the Tinted Moisturizer on my face here and the Flawless Lumiere in this post as well. Both offer a nice natural glow to the skin with good lasting power.

Quick tip: Sephora carries the Tinted Moisturizer in a Mini Size in case you wanted to try it out before committing to buying the full size. They also have a Prime+Perfect Set you can customize as well which has more mini sizes.

Best Setting Powder

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Powder Medium | The Beauty Look Book

The Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finished Pressed Powder in Medium (3) remains my go-to setting power. I use it pretty much daily for setting or touch ups. This one is not on sale, but Charlotte Tilbury has launched their Early Black Friday Deals with savings of 30% off on some of her bundles. In case you missed it I have my Best of Charlotte Tilbury post you can check out if you want more recommendations!

Neutral Mini Palette

Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam II Mini Eyeshadow Palette

Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam II Mini Eyeshadow Palette swatches

The Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam II Mini Eyeshadow Palette (4) was a recent beauty buy. It is a mini version of their Soft Glam Palette. There are 2 shades in the mini that are slightly different than the full size version. If you have the original you don’t really need the new one unless you’ve used it up or are looking for a convenient travel size version. The colors are super smooth and easy to blend/layer. They look a little boring in the pan but it’s a really great palette that has everything you need for a complete eye look!

Eye Staples

Eye Makeup Staples Charlotte Tilbury and Chanel

I’ve also been loving the Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerise Cream Shadow in Copper Sunrise (5, new shade reviewed here) for a soft wash of color. It’s a nice one and done kind of color and super flattering on the eyes! So many of you have messaged me asking for a good long-wear eyeliner, I think it depends whether you want a pencil or liquid but for pencil, my go-to has been the Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof Eyeliner (6, swatches here). I like a lot of the colors and am wearing Black Wood in this post.

Cheek Favorites

Everyday Makeup Favorites

Cheek Favorites Tom Ford and Hourglass

For the cheeks I like a simple mix of bronzer + shimmery blush. I’ve been reaching for the Tom Ford Bronzing Powder in Gold Dust (7) and Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Sublime Flush (8, reviewed + swatched here) as a nice versatile mix.

Pillow Talk

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lips

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lip Swatches

Last but not least – the combo that gets me the most compliments and questions “what are you wearing on your lips?” is the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk (9) + Charlotte Tilbury Jewel Lips in Pillow Talk (10) combination. I love ALL the Pillow Talk Lip colors and many of you want to know “do I need them all?” especially for the glosses. I personally think I do, but if you don’t want dupes or colors that are too similar here are the colors swatched side by side.

My take on the difference between the glosses:

  • Lip Lustre is most opaque and has a more dusty rose color (on the face/lips here and here)
  • Collagen Lip Bath is the most sheer out of the three, has a translucent finish and gives the lips the most full plump effect (without the tingle, other colors also swatched here)
  • Jewel Lips has some shimmer, is brighter in undertone, super glossy (review here too)

You can find the Lipstick, Liner, Collagen + Jewel Lips in her 4-piece Pillow Talk Lip Secrets Set ($45).

That wraps up my 10 Things I’m Loving Right Now! Would love to hear what you are loving lately. Any beauty staples you have in rotation that you can’t get enough of?

A cute Silk Mittens Hand Trio popped up online for MAC and I am ordering this today!

Molton Brown has some of the most exquisite scents and gift sets. I love their Holiday Shower Gel Baubles ($15 each, available in a few scents) and Holiday Crackers ($25 each with 4 shower gels). This Mini Hand Wash and Hand Lotion Set is also a good one!

The BEST shower creams are from Sol de Janeiro. The Brazilian 4 Play Moisturizing Shower Cream-Gel is available in a mini in their Carnival Flight Set. The Ultimate Dry Skin Saver with Skinfix

Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid Peptide Face Cream

The weather has shifted and dry season is officially here and my skin has been in desperate need of some extra TLC. So many of you had mentioned Skinfix to me as a new brand that you really love and I am thrilled to partner with them to give you a closer look at their Barrier+ Triple Lipid Peptide Cream.

Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid Peptide Face Cream

The Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid Peptide Cream is my latest skin saver. It’s a rich hydrating cream that comes in a pump dispenser jar. I love that it is unscented, soothing and has that lush creamy feel without a super heavy texture. The Triple Peptide Cream is one of those moisturizers great for stressed or sensitive skin. It’s great especially if you have eczema or irritation from acids or retinol – there’s no stinging when you apply and it is very soothing.

For those who are into natural skincare, you’ll be happy to learn that the cream is 95% naturally-derived. The highlighted ingredients include:

  • Triple Lipid Complex – to restore natural lipids, it makes the skin glow!
  • Peptide Protein Blend – supports skin barrier function to protect it
  • Lily Root Extract – to tighten the skin and help skin retain moisture

Best Face Cream for Dry Sensitive Skin

Skinfix Triple Lipid Peptide Face Cream

Beauty Look Book Skinfix Cream

I’ve been using this for nearly a month now and skin is more hydrated and smooth without any irritation. I love it during the day or at night. I even use it on the hands and body although they do have an Eczema+ Hand Repair Cream and Body Cream I am really eager to try.

I was so impressed with the Barrier+ Triple Lipid Peptide Cream, after my first use I ordered a few other items to try including the Triple Lipid Peptide Face Lotion (lighter version of the cream), Foaming Oil Cleanser (really nice hydrating cleaner) and the Nutrient Water Misting Tonic and Lip Repair Balm (have not tried those yet but excited to!). I still think the cream is the best product to start with if you’re new to the line!

Skinfix Skincare Line Sephora

Skinfix Peptide Face Cream review

Bottom line if you’re looking for a good no-fuss moisturizer that is good for sensitive or stressed out skin, I highly recommend giving the Lipid Peptide Cream a try. I frequently give skincare to friends and family, my brother has eczema and I’m sending him one of these creams for Christmas!

You can find the Skinfix Barrier+ Triple Lipid Peptide Cream and entire Skinfix line available at Sephora. There are some cute sets out for the holiday!

Best Cozy Gifts for the Holiday

1 Diptyque Santal // 2 Le Labo Santal // 3 Byredo Candle // 4 Sherpa Slippers // 5 Pink Sweatshirt // 6 Ivory Sweatshirt // 7 Best Luxe Lip/Hand Duo // 8 Cashmere Beanie // 9 Mini Candle Trio // 10 Pink Mug // 11 Barefoot Dreams Blanket // 12 Diptyque Room Spray // 13 Fuzzy Slippers // 14 Cashmere Scarf // 15 Pom Pom Hat // 16 Knit Beanie // 17 Cashmere Mule Slippers // 18 Bauble Silk Hair Ties // 19 Best of Baies Set // 20 Knit Mittens (matching hat) // 21 Nespresso Vertuo Next // 22 Cashmere Ballet Slippers // 23 Aesop Home Set

I’m kicking off the holiday season with my first Holiday Gift Guide! Today’s edit has a roundup of cozy gifts for the home. I’ve included a lot of my personal favorites to put on your radar. There are a few things I’ve bookmarked myself to keep an eye out for sales.

A cozy blanket or cashmere scarf are two things you can’t go wrong with (no matter how picky the person is!). Long time readers know I LIVE for our Barefoot Dreams. These are blankets we use all the time and I’m 100% obsessed. We love the classic CozyChic Throw Blanket the best for the softest option. I also really love the In the Wild Prints. I have the Everlane Cashmere Rib Beanie, Scarf and Throw on my radar for the season. I linked a few more cute options below!

Fuzzy slippers are on my wishlist this year. I have so many on my radar and bookmarked a ton of cute ones to keep an eye out for sales. I already ordered these mule slippers from Naked Cashmere and these from Sherpa Scuff ones from Madewell so far. I am hoping the others will be on sale for Black Friday/Cyber Monday – although I have to admit they are already in my online shopping carts. If you have tried any or have favorites please let me know in the comments.

The best cozy scents I’ve tried are Diptyque Santal or Le Labo Santal. I also think Byredo Bibliotheque is one of the most unique warm cozy scents I’ve ever smelled – it makes the prettiest luxe gift. For those who prefer room sprays both Andrew and I love the ones from Diptyque for the strongest throw. They come in a few variations and every single one is amazing. This year they launched a Best of Baies Trio set that has a mini Baies room spray.

For coffee lovers I have done a few highlights on my Instagram Stories (also saved in my Highlights under HOME if you want to see some demos). I’ve had the Nespresso Pixie from the day it launched and loved it for YEARS! A few years ago I stopped drinking espresso because it was too strong for me but I recently bought the Vertuo Next because it makes BOTH coffee and espresso. I 100% recommend it! Stores like Bloomingdale’s, Williams-Sonoma and even the Nespresso website have incredible deals during the holidays – this is the best time to buy one! (Currently on sale online at 30% off at the Nespresso website!).

A few other favorites I have include the Slip Silk hair ties, love the cute holiday set. They won’t pull or snag the hair. I also think Aesop makes lovely cozy home sets. I love their Resurrection Hand Wash Duo. I think The Seasoned Wayfarer Set is a really nice one to give as a gift. We’ve tried everything in the set which has a full size hand wash, mini room spray and deodorizing toilet drops (they work!).

New Charlotte Tilbury Fire Rose Eyeshadow Quad + Nude Lipsticks Review

November 13, 2020

New Charlotte Tilbury Fire Rose, Copper Sunrise, Rose Sunset and Nude Lipsticks

I’m back with another Charlotte Tilbury haul! She launched more products for the eyes with a new quad and two cream eyeshadows. Also I received so many requests to review the Super Lipsticks so I caved and ordered them to swatch and compare for you today. I ordered everything from Charlotte Tilbury online. Right now it looks like these items are exclusive to her website and I don’t know if she will launch them at other stores or counters.

I wasn’t able to shoot the eye looks as my camera died and I need to replace it. If you are interested in more eye looks let me know in the comments and I’ll try and update this post if you want more looks/photos. It’s been a terrible week with the tropical storm and some tech issues here!

In today’s post:

Luxury Eye Palette in Fire Rose

Charlotte Tilbury Fire Rose Eyeshadow Palette Review

Charlotte Tilbury’s new Luxury Eye Palette in Fire Rose is one of the prettiest ones I’ve seen this year. I like this one because it has only one reddish/plum shade and even though it’s warm, the rest of the palette pulls more neutral on my complexion. The colors are smooth and ultra pigmented. I think this is a winner for me!

Colors include a shimmery metallic pink, shimmery medium taupe plum brown, sparkling glitter champagne top coat and a matte plum-red-brown.

New Shades of Eyes to Mesmerise

Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerise Copper Sunrise and Sunset Rose

I’m a huge fan of Charlotte Tilbury Eyes to Mesmerise cream shadows so I knew I had to have both of the new ones. Copper Sunrise is a shimmery warm soft coppery pink that isn’t too warm on my skin. Sunset Rose is a soft plum pink. Both smooth out to a medium luminous sheen. If blended the colors will sheer out more for a wash of color. I like to use these as bases for cream shadows or on lazy makeup days. You can layer for more color but in general they aren’t going to be super pigmented on the lids. On me they last well but I have dry lids so I don’t have oily lid issues.

Swatch comparisons next to a few other shades.

Super Lipsticks

Charlotte Tilbury Super Nude, Super You, Super Starlet lipsticks

Charlotte Tilbury launched three new lipsticks in a limited-edition packaging. The only thing different is the lid which has tiny jewels on the top. All three performed well true to her lipstick standards. I love her mattes because they’re not a flat matte. These have medium to full coverage and have impressive lasting power on me. I think her new colors are really flattering – I hope she considers adding them to her permanent lineup.

I swatched them below next to a few other neutrals. There are similarities to other colors but slight differences in the undertone.

Charlotte Tilbury Neutral Lipstick swatches

All three on the face as I was able to swatch them on my lips with a different camera. I hope to get my replacement today! My foundation shade in Charlotte Tilbury is the Magic Foundation in Shade 7.

Charlotte Tilbury Super Nude, Super You, Super Starlet lipsticks

I think everything I hauled is a solid win. I really love the eyeshadow palette even though she seems to be launching so many. I love her Cream Shadows although I know many of you don’t like her formula – if you have oily lids they might not last long on your skin type. Her new shades of lipsticks are as good as many of you have said they were, however I do think they are dupeable.

If you’re shopping around for her new launches I do recommend checking her website as she usually has bundles available with a price break. Right now until the 15th she has a Gift With Purchase going on for a free Magic Cream Light (which I received with my order).

Did you try anything from this launch yet? Or are you waiting to see what she has coming out before the end of the year?

Charlotte Tilbury Holiday 2020 Makeup Haul

November 10, 2020

Charlotte Tilbury Holiday 2020 Collection

I have a Charlotte Tilbury holiday haul review today! I ordered almost everything from the holiday launch so far and have swatches, beauty looks and thoughts today. I ordered most of my items from Charlotte Tilbury and a few things from Nordstrom. In today’s haul post:

Bejewelled Eyes to Hypnotise Palette

Charlotte Tilbury Bejewelled Eyes to Hypnotize Eyeshadow Palette

Charlotte Tilbury Bejewelled Eyes to Hypnotize Eyeshadow Palette swatches

I fell in love with the look of the Bejewelled Eyes to Hypnotise Palette while shopping in store at Nordstrom. The store lights made the palette glow and sparkle in the most beautiful way! It has four sets of coordinating eye trios. Each set is designed for a certain look for prime, enhance and smoke placement.

I think this is a beautiful palette for a glam look. You can mix or match the shades but I do think you will need colors from other palettes to give you a complete look. On me there weren’t enough deep shades to add depth or dimension, although you can always just add a liner for a completed look.

  • Happy Glow has golden tan tones
  • Love Glow has pink and red tones (I’m not a fan of these by themself, they’re much to red for my taste, but I can make them work on me when layered with other colors)
  • Dream Glow has pretty plum and mauve tones
  • Seduce Glow has pretty neutral bronze brown tones

Eye Looks below featuring Seduce Glow Look (bronze) and also Dream Glow Look (plum)

Also wearing:

Charlotte Tilbury Bejewelled Eyes to Hypnotize Eyeshadow Palette Makeup Look

Colors are smooth and easy to layer. Lasting power is very good on all colors and the shimmers aren’t too glittery or glitzy if you’re like me and prefer a more subtle sparkle.

The Super Nudes Easy Eye Palette

Charlotte Tilbury The Super Nudes Easy Eye Palette | The Beauty Look Book

I had such high hopes for The Super Nudes Easy Eye Palette and have mixed feelings about this one. I really loved the Easy Smokey Eye x Nordstrom palette from a couple years ago. This new Super Nudes Palette has a completely different texture. There are 6 mattes but they are almost creamy velvety like mattes that have an odd texture to me. They apply smoothly on the lids although you have to use a dense brush and almost pat/blend/pack it on. I found the MAC 239S worked best for me.

Charlotte Tilbury The Super Nudes Easy Eye Palette swatches | The Beauty Look Book

Colors are:

  • Soft warm tan
  • Medium tan brown
  • Warm deep brown
  • Matte ivory
  • Matte soft grey
  • Matte smokey black

The texture is almost like some of the Natasha Denona mattes which are more of a bouncy matte, however I find the ones from Natasha Denona perform much better.

I have mixed feelings about this new Super Nudes palette. I love the shades and think it creates a nice soft smokey eye look. I just don’t love the formula – it’s not bad, but I think it would have been SO much better if they made it a regular matte. I think the Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam or Soft Glam II Mini will give you a similar look with a much better texture.

Luxury Palette of Pops in Dazzling Diamonds

The Luxury Palette of Pops in Dazzling Diamonds has four sparkling colors in a sparkling white gold champagne, sparkling soft gold brown, sparkling deeper bronze and sparkling blue-black-grey.

The glitters are beautiful in this one! I think they’re stunning for holiday for a super pretty look although I had trouble getting a good makeup look with this one. I know this one is designed to be a glitzy one with lots of sparkle to make the eyes pop. On my eyes all four were a bit too much for me. The glitter does adhere to the eyes and has minimal fall out if you use a patting method to apply. For me I think this is going to be better when used in conjunction with other matte or satin shades. I am going to keep trying with this one to get a decent makeup look for you in another post.

If you want to see the Pillow Talk Luxury Palette of Pops on my eyes (similar texture/glitter, just in pink tones) you can see my review here.

Jewel Lip Gloss

I am 100% smitten with the Jewel Lip Gloss. These are shimmery glosses loaded with sparkle but the ones I’ve tried are completely smooth and texture free. These have a subtle vanilla scent similar to the MAC Lipglasses. There are three new colors with the holiday collection, I also included two from a previous launch to swatch below. (If you shop on Charlotte Tilbury’s site she has some bundles available with a bit of price break for buying the sets.)

  • Champagne Diamonds is a sheer sparkling gold beige
  • Opal Magic is a sheer pale pink gold
  • Blushed Gold is a pretty neutral pink beige sparkle
  • Pillow Talk is a pink rose glow with a soft sheen
  • Walk of No Shame is a shimmery deeper rosy color

Charlotte Tilbury Jewel Lips Lip Gloss Review

Charlotte TIlbury Jewel Lips Champagne Diamonds

Charlotte Tilbury Jewel Lips Opal Magic and Blushed Gold

These work alone, with a liner or on top of a gloss. I think these give the lips the prettiest and most flattering glow I’ve seen in a long time. I highly recommend checking them out! There is one more shade called ROSE JEWEL exclusive to Sephora. The reviews sound pretty bad for this shade but if you’ve tried it and think otherwise let me know in the comments!

Hollywood Superstar Glow Highlighter

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Superstar Glow Highlighter review | The Beauty Look Book

I’m ending with the product I think is the star of the collection. The Hollywood Superstar Glow Highlighter is one of the prettiest opal glow I’ve seen in a long time. It looks pretty standard when swatched on the arms or compared to other shades but I think it looks so flattering on the skin. If you’re medium tan like me this will look like your skin but more glowing. It flashes peach, pink, pale pink, and opal all in one without looking too frosted. If you have lighter fair skin this will look more peachy on you.

Closer look at different angles shows the complexity of the glow/color:

Charlotte Tilbury Holiday 2020 Collection

That wraps up my haul post! For me the standouts are her Hollywood Superglow Highlighter (wish this was permanent!) and her Jewel Lips Lip Glosses. I think her palettes are nice, but not must-haves especially if you already own a lot of other shades from her line.

She  just launched her Fire Rose Luxury Palette and two new Eyes to Mesmerise Eyeshadows which I ordered and will also have those reviewed hopefully very soon.

Have you checked out anything from the holiday launch yet? What did you think?

New Signature Scent For the Holiday Season

Bulgari Au The Blanc Perfume | The Beauty Look Book

I love trying new perfumes and my latest discovery is the Bvlgari Eau Parfumee Au The Blanc. I’ve fallen head over heels in love with it and think it is one of the most beautiful scents I’ve ever tried before. I’m so excited to partner with them to share a closer look today!

The Bulgari Eau Parfumee Au The Blanc is a light floral. It is a clean fresh scent with a beautiful mix of musk, amber, White Tea, Artemisia and white pepper. Au The Blanc has an incredible calming and relaxing kind of feel and I love how the amber mixed in adds warmth to it. It’s packaged in a gorgeous glass 2.5 oz cologne spray bottle and 3-4 spritzes lasts all day on my skin.

Bulgari Au The Blanc Perfume review | The Beauty Look Book

Au The Blanc has an elegant feel but is also suitable to wear for every day. I think it’s perfect for this upcoming holiday season as it’s fresh and pretty but not overpowering. It is also available in a Body Lotion and Shampoo and Shower Gel version which I now have on my wish list. The Au The Vert green tea version has come highly recommended by many of you and as a huge fan of bergamot notes I think this will be my next purchase!

I know perfume is so personal to each of us but if you are looking for a new fresh everyday kind of scent with a clean and relaxing vibe, I highly recommend checking out the Eau Parfumee Au The Blanc from Bulgari. I think it’s a timeless classic you can wear year-round as well.
