My Favorite Everyday Neutral Nail Polishes

February 14, 2017

Best Neutral Nude Pink Polishes for Everyday | The Beauty Look Book

Today’s post is another one by popular request. It seems like neutral nail polishes are what a lot of you need recommendations for and I totally understand the pain of finding a good one. There are so many neutral options but many are that either too sheer, too light, too pink or really beige and if you’re like me you’ll go to the store, look at all the OPI or Essie options and think hmmm a lot of these look really similar. I’ve found that something with a bit of pink and nude mixed together works best for my olive skintone. I’m still on the hunt for the perfect light nude peach that isn’t too yellow, too orange or beige. I love the look of OPI Samoan Sand on others but on me it’s a bit too dark and a bit too peachy. I did a similar post back in 2014 of my Favorite Nude Pink Polishes. Today I have an updated version although a few of them will be on repeat because I just haven’t found anything better.

If you see me wearing a nude polish, there is a really good chance that it’s either Tom Ford Sugar Dune, Essie Topless and Barefoot or Burberry Nude Pink. All three are very similar – the difference is slight in undertone but pigment and wear time is also different. Many times you just don’t know what a color will look like until you try it on your hands. Something that looks incredibly boring in the bottle like Tom Ford Sugar Dune ends up being one of the prettiest soft nude pinks ever. If you think all these look the same you’re right but I’ll add descriptions on what makes them each unique so you can find the right one for you.

Lineup in natural light:

Descriptions as I see them and notes on how many coats it takes for full coverage:

  • Essie Spin the Bottle is a nude pink with slight warmth to it, it’s one of the few ones that has a bit of beige and peach that I can wear, this one takes two coats for full coverage and the best way to make it last is with Seche Vite top coat, although many of you have recommended the Essie No Chips Ahead
  • Essie Topless and Barefoot is one of my most-worn polishes, it’s a nude pink and has more pink than Spin the Bottle, this one unfortunately almost always gets tip wear on me within 7 hours to 1 day no matter what top coat I use, but I still love the color so with this one I’m going to try it with the Essie top coat once I have a chance to go pick one up, this one always need 3 to 4 coats for me
  • Louboutin Tutulle (all 10 of the nudes swatched and reviewed here) is one of the best nude beige pink polishes I’ve tried, all the Louboutin nudes are just flawless, it has smooth shiny coverage and only takes 2 coats and usually lasts a minimum of 7 days without chipping or tip wear
  • Tom Ford Sugar Dune is a light powdery looking cool pink, on the hands it gives the most polished elegant look I’ve seen, I get full coverage with two coats but there are times I need three
  • Chanel Organdi (reviewed here) is another great neutral, this is one of the darker colors but it’s still light enough in color that it gives the hands the look of being lighter and brighter, this has medium coverage in texture but you can get full coverage with two thin coats
  • OPI Mimosas for Mr and Mrs is one of the sheerest neutrals I own and takes a minimum of 3 coats, the result is a clean looking light pink neutral though so sometimes when I have patience I’m ok with the extra work it takes
  • OPI Be There in a Prosecco (application shown here) is one of the lightest polishes I have that isn’t a pure white but pretty close, it has a bit of cream in it without being yellow, this gives the effect of white polish but it’s not as harsh on the skin, this one has full coverage with two coats, the first coat will be streaky but it will even out with the second
  • Dior Incognito is a classic neutral pink with warmth, for me this looks better when I have a tan, but I love that it’s semi sheer but still incredibly smooth with a flawless high shine finish, I need two coats with this one
  • Burberry Nude Pink (also reviewed here) is another classic, it’s lasted over two years and is still just as good as when I bought it, many of mine last for years, it’s a great opaque neutral nude pink, full coverage achieved with two coats
  • Nails Inc. Bond Street Passage is a new one to me, it’s not really one I’d consider in the neutral category because it looks more like a mauve pink in the bottle, on the hands it pulls more like a neutral with a pink kick, this is a one coat wonder but I still prefer it with two coats to get a more cushiony look, I haven’t tried much from this line, so far only 3 polishes, but every time I do I’m really just blown away by the pigment in their polishes!

Swatches on the nail wheel, all of these have two coats with the exception of OPI Mimosas for Mr. and Mrs. which has 4 and Essie Topless and Barefoot which has 3:

You definitely do not need all of these, but I hope this helps compare colors in a side by side and swatch manner. I’ve accumulated many polishes over the past few years and these are my favorite neutrals that you can still find today. A few other favorites have been limited-editions from Dior and you can’t find them anymore so I didn’t want to include those in the roundup. As many of you have asked for recommendations that are in the more affordable price range I included Essie and OPI to the mix. I usually consider myself a lover of brighter or bold shades for the fingers like Chanel Camelia or Louboutin Miss Mars, but I really like the clean and almost brightening look of neutral nails.

My top three favorites of the moment: Tom Ford Sugar Dune, Louboutin Tutulle and Chanel Organdi.

Do you have any neutral favorites? I know the word “neutral” can mean something different to everyone, but I’d love to hear what yours are! They don’t have to be nude pinks like the ones I featured, let me know what has worked for you and if you can share your skintone that would be super helpful as well 🙂

Be there in a Prosecco is currently on my nails and it’s been on repeat for weeks! I really only wear nude/light colours so this post is perfect for me. I’m gonna try out the mimosa one from OPI, and I Topless and Barefoot is what originally got me into this colours years back. Thanks 🙂

Be There in a Prosecco is such a good one!

  • Casey February 14, 2017 at 11:43 am

If you did your own mani’s with these I’m suuuuuuuuper impressed. I can’t do light color mani’s to save my life, they ALWAYS come out looking crappy.

    • BeautyLookBook February 15, 2017 at 1:47 pm

Thanks Casey! I did do them all myself 🙂 Light colors can be tricky with pigments and textures. There are a lot that end up looking chalky or streaky but these ones are pretty much goof proof!

  • Stasja February 14, 2017 at 12:03 pm

Such beautiful colours and so helpful as I’m always looking for the perfect nude shades!

  • Elena February 14, 2017 at 1:08 pm

Organdi was a contender for my wedding. I did a natural French manicure in the end but such a lovely colour!

  • Yvonne Ashon February 14, 2017 at 1:52 pm

    Omg very pretty colors.

  • Huong Vo February 14, 2017 at 3:13 pm

I hopped on over to your blog after seeing your IG post because I’m dying for neutral/pink-ish nail polish. I tend to gravitate towards nudes/pinks and this has helped SO much, Sabrina! Definitely pinning this for future reference.

I love them all, but I loved TF’s Sugar Dune and will have to look at Dior’s because I love how their color just glides on so smoothly…thanks again, Sabrina!

    Happy Valentine’s! xo

P.S. You HAD to post this after I cleaned out my polishes this past weekend, lol! #GoodEnabler

Love Bond Street Passage! Essie Topless & Barefoot is my favorite as well – this is my go-to pedi color, actually.

    • BeautyLookBook February 15, 2017 at 1:48 pm

Yay! I didn’t think to try those on the toes 🙂

  • Erin February 14, 2017 at 5:52 pm

Love your choices! My skin pulls ruddy very easily so I have different picks: Essie Tuck It In My Tux, Essie Like Linen, Essie Ballet Slippers, OPI It’s In the Cloud, Smith & Cult Doe My Dear.

    • BeautyLookBook February 15, 2017 at 1:48 pm

      Thanks for the recs Erin!

HI Sabrina! I wonder if you are using anything special for nail strengthening?

    • BeautyLookBook February 15, 2017 at 1:48 pm

      Hi Marina – I don’t, do you?

  • Tara Daniella February 15, 2017 at 7:00 am

My nails are always painted some kinda nude! I usually got for shellac/gellish at the salon but would love to keep some polishes in for in between visits, Essie Spin the Bottle looks fab as do both the Burberry and Tom Ford options- now just to choose which one!

  • NACK February 15, 2017 at 8:22 am

    Always appreciate your blog post!
I do agree that finding the perfect nude shade is such a pain.
If you like Dior’s Incognito, try Nails Inc’s Montpelier Walk.
These two are always my go-to shades 🙂

    • BeautyLookBook February 15, 2017 at 1:49 pm

Thanks NACK! Will give that one a look soon 🙂

  • marblebeauty February 15, 2017 at 9:57 am

Nude is my favourite colour for polish! I loved this post, I love the chanel shade, as well as essie spin the bottle, might have to treat myself! One of my favourites is Essie ‘Not Just A Pretty Face’
    Chloe xxx

    • BeautyLookBook February 15, 2017 at 1:49 pm

Nice! I will have to add that Essie to the list to check out!

  • Alison February 15, 2017 at 10:01 am

Though I have loads of color polishes, I definitely wear more neutrals than anything on my fingernails. I like grey or taupe for fall and nude pinks for the rest of the year. Without a doubt Sugar Dune and the LE Dior Lady are my all time favorites. I’m liking the look of Prosecco, but am wondering about the formula. The off white shade in the Dior Blue polka dot minis last summer was also nice, but I could not justify buying it for just that mini.

    • BeautyLookBook February 15, 2017 at 1:49 pm

Dior Lady was THE best, I was so sad it was LE!

      • Alison February 17, 2017 at 5:48 am

They should bring it back. Look at how many people have mentioned it in this thread. Thankful I have a backup.

  • cpbebe February 15, 2017 at 2:00 pm

I love your picks- Dior Incognito always gets compliments from my hubs, who never notices nail color. I adore Sugar Dune because it has the touch of grey that makes it so chic and timeless. I have been drawn to Chanel Organdi, but opted instead for Dior Lady, since they seem so similar. (I may still pick up Organdi, it seems to be calling my name.) Other neutrals I reach for often are Chanel Rose Confidentiel, Chanel Frenzy, Deborah Lippmann Fashion and Tom Ford Toasted Sugar.

  • Bob Loblaw February 16, 2017 at 1:10 am

I love your picks on you, will have to look at bond street passage and sugar dune for myself. I have light medium skin with redness, especially on my fingers. I find that any nude needs to have some cool mauve to keep my fingers from looking too reddened. My very favorite is Essie Demure Vix, a taupe with a touch of violet shimmer (sounds not neutral but it is), Dior Lady, Burberry Ash Rose, OPI Tickle my Francey and OPI My Very First Knockwurst.

  • fannyanddailybeauty February 16, 2017 at 3:37 am

Oh, I really like the Dior Incognito sheer and glossy finish on your nail, I must try it out, I also love the Dior nail polish’s formulation! I definitely agree with your introduction: finding the perfect nude can be really hard, especially in my case, as I don’t like grey, taupe undertones in them! Lovely picks!

  • Julia Speaks February 18, 2017 at 11:02 am

Thank you so, so much for creating this post! You have no idea how useful it’s gonna be for me. I want to get a new pink nude nail polish, but I had no idea what to go for. There is so much choice here that now the trouble will be to pick just one! The Nails Inc. shade really caught my attention, it is a rather unique shade of pink, I love it. Organdi was a nail polish I’ve wanted for ages, and I’m happy Chanel has finally brought it back in their new collections!

Wow – this is suuuper useful! I always look for good nudes but at the salon the lighting is always weird so knowing the actual shade names will be super useful! I saved them 🙂

  • Emily Miller February 19, 2017 at 4:12 am

The OPI and Essie shades look so nice, as well as the Nails Inc shade. Really helpful post, thank you!

  • Nails February 20, 2017 at 8:00 pm

You forgot Chanel Secret! I have a similar skin tone to yours – some great options here I haven’t tried

  • Tannya Aditya February 22, 2017 at 2:14 am

thank you so so much! i’m in the hunt for neutral nail polish and you helped a lot! i’m thinking to get OPI mimosas. hmmm m m

  • Natalya February 24, 2017 at 4:54 am

Oh, this is such a gorgeous selection, Sabrina – very much up my street! I especially love the look of Tom Ford’s Sugar Dune shade and Essie Topless and Barefoot! Must try them next! I’ve been loving a few other similar shades – my favourites ones are Dior Muguet and Guerlain in 00-Lingerie. I have written about them here:
Thank you for such a great post!

Such a beautiful collection! I love nudes. So obsessed with your blog.

  • weloveswatches February 28, 2017 at 10:02 am

I am such a sucker for neutral nail polishes! I think I found a few that I need in my collection!

  • Merry Rower March 5, 2017 at 1:09 pm

My go-to nude – and nudes are the only colors I wear on my hands – is “Au Natural” by Essie. Not too white, not too beige, not chalky or streaky or pink. It is fairly sheer, but oxidizes nicely.
I find many nude shades go weirdly dead after a couple of days exposed to light. “Au Natural” just gets prettier. It’s hard to find in-store, but worth seeking out. It’s got the tiniest hint of pearl to it, but does not read metallic in anyway. I find polishes with a bit of iridescence wear many days longer, but I don’t care for a frosty look, so “Au Natural” checks every box for me.

I like Essie’s “Sandy Beach ” too, although it is sheerer. And Deborah Lippmann’s opaque “Naked” if I want the mannequin finger look. Why I’d want the mannequin finger look is a completely different question!
