Favorite Fancy Candles for the Holidays

There’s nothing quite like a good bougie candle to make your home feel extra fancy, warm and cozy all at the same time. By popular request I have an updated favorites roundup for the holiday season! My tried and true favorites remain the same with my top three favorite brands being Diptyque, Byredo and Cire Trudon. Many of these I started burning in late fall and will continue using many of these through early spring.

Diptyque

1. Diptyque Baies is in my top three favorites and this one is my most burned, repurchased and recommended candle ever! It has notes of rose and blackcurrant, it smells like berries and rose to me. I’ve bought this in almost all the different sizes. If you are new to Diptyque this is the one I recommend to everyone.

2. Diptyque Feu de Bois is one of the best firewood smokey scents. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but it always feels like Christmas to me! It smells warm and cozy.

3. Diptyque Vanille is a smokey vanilla. It’s not your typical sweet gourmand vanilla. It’s almost like a leather smokey kind of vanilla that has a warm vibe.

4. Diptyque Ambre is my favorite amber scent. It has the perfect mix of wood, vetiver and patchouli with a hint of spice. It’s another warm one – I bought the large colored glass version a few years ago and found it a lot more potent than the standard size (which is still very good).

5. Diptyque Santal is the best sandalwood candle. It’s not too strong or spicy and is perfect year round.

I bought the Mini Carousel Set and standard size Lucky Charm carousels last year and love them! They usually have them out only during the holiday season. Both are still available right now at Nordstrom.

Cire Trudon

6. Cire Trudon Ernesto is the best candle of all time to me. It’s a magical mix of leather and tobacco – but I find it hard to describe. I have yet to try all the Cire Trudon candles (I have also tried minis of Positano and Rose Poivree which were lovely!). They’re the most expensive candle splurge I’ve made for the home in past years. Every Christmas they launch special edition packaging for a selection of scents. The Cire Trudon team was generous enough to send this year’s for review and it’s GLORIOUS! I have the Classic size but it also comes in two larger options.

7 / 8 / 9 Cire Trudon Gabriel, Nazareth and Fir have been on my radar for years but every time I’ve decided to buy one I always go back to Ernesto. They have a beautiful Odeurs D’Hiver Christmas Trio which is boxed in the most beautiful packaging I have ever seen. Every candle in the box is carefully packed with inserts around the edges and also in the top to protect the wick/wax. Gabriel is glorious mix of leather, chestnut and wood. Nazareth is a mix of clove, oranges and cinnamon (smells like Christmas!). I’ve always been more of a pine lover for Christmas scents but Cire Trudon Fir is so unique and sweet while still being very green.

Byredo

10. Byredo Tree House is my favorite one from the line. When I first smelled it years ago I actually did not like the way it smelled straight out of the jar. It wasn’t until I smelled it burning in their New York store that I decided to give it a try. It has the most amazing mix of cedar, bamboo, sandalwood, guaiac wood, hay, spice, myrrh and labdanum. It’s warm and cozy with wood and spice mix.

11. Byredo Bibliotheque is almost like a smoky candle version of Bal D’Afrique perfume to me. It’s not as sweet but to me it has a similar vibe that is so unique and unlike anything else I’ve tried. Even the little one has amazing throw.

Room Sprays

12. Aesop Room Sprays – For those who cannot burn candles room sprays are a great alternative. I’m completely obsessed with all the Aesop Room Sprays and was thrilled to find they launched a mini trio this holiday! I’ve also loved Diptyque Baies and 34 Boulevard St. Germain sprays as well for our home. I’ve been dying to try one from Byredo but haven’t yet.

Lips Victoria Beckham Beauty

Victoria Beckham Beauty Haul

I have a Victoria Beckham Beauty haul to share today! Everything looked so beautiful in a polished yet effortless kind of way and I was really curious to see what they looked like in person. This is the first time I’ve tried anything from a Victoria Beckham Beauty line. Past launches with Estee Lauder always sold out so fast, I felt like I blinked and everything was gone. Her current collection can be found on her website Victoria Beckham Beauty and also at Violet Grey.

Lip Definer ($24 each) in 1, 2, 3 and 4
Bitten Lip Tint ($34) in Bisou
Satin Kajal Liner ($26) in Bronze and Black
Lid Luster ($36) in Mink

I ordered directly from her website and everything arrived relatively fast for standard shipping. Products came in a white drawstring bag and everything was well packed/protected. I have on item in the haul that I’m not reviewing yet which is her Cell Rejuvenating Moisturizer because I need more time to test. First impressions are positive from me but more on this later.

Lip Definer

Her Lip Definers were the products that interested me the most. I ordered Shades 01, 02, 03 and 04. They’re smooth full coverage lip pencils in shades designed to enhance the natural lip color. They’re described as waterproof and I found them very opaque and long-wearing. Colors I bought and some lip pairings I’ve tried:

01 is a pale peach (designed for fair to light lip tones)
- Pairs well with Marc Jacobs Cream and Sugar, MAC Velvet Teddy, Charlotte Tilbury Stoned Rose
02 is a neutral beige brown (designed for light to medium lip tones)
- Pairs well with Charlotte Tilbury Very Victoria, Fenty Gloss Bomb in Hot Chocolit, NARS Dolce Vita and NARS Tonka
03 is a pink rose mauve (designed for light to medium lip tones)
- Coordinates with MAC Twig, MAC Mehr, Pat McGrath Omi
04 brown rose (designed for medium lip tones)
- Coordinates with Pat McGrath Blitz Trance in Flesh3, Pat McGrath Attitude, Flesh 3

When I used these pencils alone to line and fill the lips the result was too opaque, dark and rich for my skin tone. But this is the case with most lip pencils. The best way to wear these is as a lip pencil to outline and define the outer edges of the lip and pair with a lipstick or gloss. I am still experimenting with the combinations but overall I think the colors are really beautiful and easy to wear.

Bitten Lip Tint

I have mixed feelings about the Bitten Lip Tint. It has a berry tint that looks beautiful on the lips but being a stain that is semi sheer – one coat was a bit streaky. Two coats evens out better. It’s non drying and has a very slight sheen to it. Once on the lips it stains the lips purple. As it faded it left an unflattering purply brown look on my lips but it did last a very very long time. It’s a gel tint with a sponge tip applicator – however there is no room inside for any air flow in or out of the tube so when I put the sponge back into the tube to close it, the air from the inside popped the top insert out. It was easy to push back in so its not a deal breaker.

Satin Kajal Liner

The Satin Kajal Liners come in 3 colors and I tried Bronze which is more of a golden brass shimmer rather than a bronze to me and Black which is a true black. They’re ultra soft and pigmented. There’s a sponge tip on one end to smoke out the color. When applied along the top lashes it blended beautifully and it stayed put all day. However I tried it on the bottom of the eyes and it smudged on me. I think they’re nice to try but if you absolutely need something long wearing I think the Sisley Phyto Khol Eyeliners are far superior.

Lid Luster

The concept of the Lid Lusters appealed to me but only one of the colors looked like something I could see myself wearing. They’re pressed pigments with lots of sparkle and pearl and they blend beautifully! Mink is a sparkling ultra shimmery deep silver taupe with brown tones. It applied a lot cooler-toned than I anticipated but is still really lovely. I think the formula is better than Hourglass Scattered Light Eyeshadows and those are among my favorites. I do wish they had more colors to pick from. Hopefully they will expand the line. They glide on so easily and I had no fall out issues with the sparkles.

Overall thoughts are that I think she has a beautiful beauty line to start. I would have loved to see some coordinating lip sheers or lipsticks to go with the lip pencils with the initial launch. I think the Lid Luster formula is really phenomenal and I hope she expands the color range!

Holiday Glow with By Terry

Holiday season is here and it’s this time of year that I’m all about the glow. So many of you loved the glowing holiday makeup looks from past seasons so I’ve put together some new ones for more ideas and inspiration! As a lover of all things glowy I’m thrilled to partner with By Terry to give you a closer look at their new Starlight Rose CC Serum and Starlight Rose CC Powder. Both products are beautiful for that natural glow from within kind of effect.

CC Serums

For me the best way to add a natural glow is to start with a good base. I like mixing in liquid luminizers into foundation to add some radiance and color to my look. I also sometimes will use a shimmery fluid and apply all over on top of moisturizer but under foundation for a healthy glow. The key is to find something that has the perfect amount of shimmer with a lightweight feel so if you layer it with your skincare and foundation, it adds glow without being too heavy. The By Terry CC Serums are perfect because they they have a fluid lightweight texture and nice velvety dry down so it lasts all day and looks like skin but better.

Her classic Brightening CC Serum is a glowing base that comes in four color options to add radiance and color correct the skin in the most natural way possible. I’ve used these for years and although quite a splurge a bottle lasts me a very long time. This time of year I love Sunny Flash which adds warmth and glow to my skin. I either mix it in with foundation or use it as a subtle bronzer. It brightens up the skin to give it some life!

Each year she has a special limited-edition color of her CC Serum and this year’s is Starlight Rose. This is a soft rose with subtle gold shimmers infused to brighten the skin. It contains rosehip butter which helps the skin regeneration process and hydrates as well. It’s sheer when blended but is easy to build up with fingers on the cheekbones. I like using this as a primer under foundation. It’s truly stunning and if you splurge on one fluid luminizer this season, I think this is the best option.

CC Powder

To add more glow as a highlight the Starlight Rose CC Powder has three colors pressed into a beautiful mirrored compact. The colors have a soft radiant shimmer to them with what By Terry calls “soft focus micro spheres” to blur skin and smooth lines. I find it adds a really pretty highlight to the cheekbones or anywhere you want added highlights. There’s a glittery overspray to add a festive quality to it. Underneath you’ll find three finely milled pressed shimmering powders that make the skin glow.

Longwear Ombre Blackstar

To brighten or define the eyes the Ombre Blackstar has been a long-time favorite. These are among the longest lasting cream shadow sticks I’ve tried. Bronze Moon has been a staple for as long as I can remember loving makeup! It was one of my first By Terry purchases when I discovered the brand. (Also available as a mini in this Starlight Rose Best of Set which I think is super cute.) Blond Opal is the perfect highlighting color. For the lids either Misty Rock (shimmering purple) or Frozen Quartz (lighter shimmering cool rose) are gorgeous picks. I love Black Pearl for a smokey eye and the color also doubles as a liner if you use a detail brush to smoke out the lash lines. I like these for on-the-go options because they’re easy to apply and blend with fingers or intensify your look to take it from day to night.

Chanel Les Tissages de Chanel Tweed Pink

Chanel Les Tissages de Chanel Tweed Pink ($48 for 5.5 g/0.19 oz) is back for a limited time! The Les Tissages de Chanel Tweed Pink has been launched in the past a few times. I love this formula of blush for the delicate soft wash it gives the skin. This year’s is a bit deeper in pink with more pigment compared to the older ones I have although the color is very close. On my medium olive skin (I wear Chanel B40 or 50) it shows up for a soft baby pink flush. It has a beautiful sheen to it. There’s a lovely overspray but underneath is a mix of pale pink and medium rose pink infused with tiny silver bits of shimmer. On the skin it looks naturally radiant with just the perfect amount of glow.

Chanel Duo de Camelias Illuminating Powder Duo

For Black Friday Chanel has created a special new limited-edition creation called the Chanel Duo de Camelias Illuminating Powder Duo ($70 for 8.5 g/0.3 oz, made in Italy). It will be available for purchase starting Friday November 29th exclusively at Chanel.com and I’m thrilled to give you a peek at this new highlighter! It comes in a black velvet pouch like all other Chanel compacts and a small brush. It’s a stunning radiant pale almost white gold kind of shimmer that gives the skin a luminous glow.

The Duo de Camelias Illuminating Powder Duo has two iridescent shades that have a beautiful shimmer. There are tiny little sparkles that capture the light to give a reflective glow depending how it hits. One side is described as a golden beige and the other is a pearly platinum. The texture can be applied with a sheer finish or more intense highlight depending on how dense a brush you use. Color is easy to layer and blend, goes on smooth and doesn’t emphasize my pores. Lasting power was pretty good – it stayed put from morning until late afternoon without budging or fading too much.

You can apply each side individually or blend. The highlighter itself has a radiant finish and these photos and swatches can’t capture the true beauty or depth of the sparkles as much as I see in real life. As always I’ve done my best to try and show you what it looks like. It’s multi-dimensional so it will look different depending on whether it’s in natural light, sunlight, has a flash and contrast level with one’s skin tone.

Cle de Peau Beaute Nordstrom

Best of Cle de Peau Beaute

I have a luxury beauty roundup featuring my favorites from Cle de Peau Beaute. They have so many beautiful high quality pieces many of which I consider to be tried and true staples. Today I’m partnering with Nordstrom to round up my top ten beauty picks I think are worth the splurge. I purchase and restock most of my Cle de Peau products from them and have for years, especially their bases. All of my personal favorites and the shades I use discussed below.

1) Brilliant Enhancer

The Brilliant Enhancer comes in one shade which is a sheer pearly highlight. It has a click pen applicator with a brush tip and provides the most natural looking liquid illuminator I’ve ever seen. You can use it anywhere you want to add brightness or a highlight. I find using it on the eyes, cheekbones or even under eyes under concealer gives the skin a very soft radiant effect. It’s sheer and glowy and never looks overdone. I will sometimes click dispense product onto the back of my hand first and then use my fingertips to apply on the face although the brush works too!

2) Radiant Corrector for Eyes

The Radiant Corrector for Eyes is ideal for brightening or concealing dark circles under the eye area. It has a brush applicator and has a less opaque formula compared to the stick version making it easier to blend for under the eye area. It goes on smoothly and has good coverage without looking heavy. I use the shade Ochre.

3) Cle de Peau Beaute Concealer

The Concealer in Ochre is the best opaque formula I’ve tried for a full coverage concealer. I’ve used Almond in the past but Ochre is my best match now for my Florida tan. I warm up a little bit from the stick with my finger before patting and blending on the face. It is versatile for spot concealing, to cover redness around the nose or to cover redness under the eyes. It has SPF 25 which was introduced sometime last year. To me this newer version is just as good as the original version.

4) Radiant Cushion Foundation

The Radiant Cushion Foundation in O30 is the only foundation I currently use from the line. I do want to try more formulas but many of my old favorites have been reformulated. This cushion has medium to full coverage with a very natural luminous glow. I love that it looks radiant without being too dewy. Skin looks smoothed out and healthy and stays put all day without budging. It has buildable coverage but still feels lightweight.

5) Cream Blushes

The Cle de Peau Beaute Cream Blushes are newer tries for me. I cannot believe I did not discover these sooner! They’re creamy pots that have the most beautiful powder dry down. I’m not the biggest fan of cream blushes because they’re often too dewy for me but these are hands down the best I have EVER tried. I have two shades right now in 1 Cranberry (one I’m wearing in this post) which is a soft rose and 2 Pale Fig (brighter warm pink). I have the other two on my wishlist to order soon. They blend so beautifully into the skin and are the longest lasting cream blushes I’ve tried. They look natural but give a perfect amount of color. You can apply with fingers easily or a small cream blush brush. A little bit goes a very long way.

6) Intensifying Liquid Eyeliner in Black

I tried some eye makeup basics based on rave reviews and they 100% live up to the hype. The Intensifying Liquid Eyeliner has two tips, one short and one long. It is the best liquid eyeliner I have ever tried to date and has surpassed all my other favorites. I love that you have two options to control the thickness of the line. I also think the formula has the perfect density and fluidity to dry quickly so it doesn’t bleed at all.

7) Perfect Lash Mascara in Black

Another eye makeup product I ordered recently was the Cle de Peau Beaute Perfect Lash Mascara. I purchased it on a whim as I was curious to see if it lived up to the hype. Few mascaras do it all for me but this one worked out perfectly for everything I wanted. It adds volume, holds the curl, doesn’t smudge and the curved brush makes application easy. I like that the brush is dense enough to coat my lashes with just a few coats. I will definitely repurchase!

8) Radiant Lip Gloss

For lips one of my favorite gloss formulas is the Cle de Peau Beaute Radiant Lip Gloss. They have a cushiony feel and beautiful shine without that sticky finish. They are sheer so I recommend layering on top of a liner or lipstick if you want more coverage. My favorites are Warm Crystal, Charm, Dream Stone and Star Dust. They have a tiny amount of shimmer to make the lips look lush and full.

9) Radiant Liquid Rouge Shine Liquid Lipstick

The latest lip launch from Cle de Peau Beaute is their Radiant Liquid Rouge Shine Liquid Lipstick. They also launched a matte version which I tried as well (swatches of my picks below) but I’m partial to the shine version. They’re glossy high pigmented liquid lipsticks with the most juicy looking colors. I picked four and hope they launch more colors in this formula! Sepia is a perfect nude, Sugar Jelly is a baby pink, Delicious Dream is a juicy soft red pink, Bird of Paradise is a gorgeous orangey coral. I like mixing the colors as well. (My shine and matte picks swatched below.)

10) Face Cotton

Last but not least is the Cle de Peau Face Cotton which has been one of my go-to’s for years. They’re thick and plush and hold the shape. They won’t disintegrate with toner or makeup remover and they don’t leave fibers on the skin. I repurchase it constantly and my most recent haul I bought the Cleansing Foam Set which has the cotton in it along with some other skincare products. It is 100% worth the price for me.

That wraps up my Top 10 Cle de Peau Beaute favorites! I have tried some of their skincare items but for me the highlights are some of their makeup products. I really want to try their current Serum since I used to be obsessed with one of the older formulations.

The Charlotte Tilbury Gorgeous, Glowing Beauty Instant Look in a Palette is such a pretty easy to wear palette I think it should be permanent! The formulas in this palette itself are much better in pigment and color payoff significantly compared to the first ones she launched. It’s still a very natural looking but I think colors are deep enough for even medium tan skin tones. It’s neutral in undertone to me making it a lot more wearable than her previous Beauty Glow Palette from 2017. Colors are soft but buildable, I think with the texture it’s easy to blend and impossible to overdo.

The three shades at the top of the palette are eyeshadows which includes:

smooth metallic champagne pink
smooth medium coverage shimmery plum brown
smooth matte neutral-cool reddish brown

The bottom four shades are for the complexion:

soft satin light brown (very slight shimmer)
soft smooth pale pink highlight
soft medium rose blush
sheer cool pale highlight

When I previewed shopping the palette in store a lot of you asked how it compares to The Dolce Vita quad (now renamed The Bella Sofia), swatches below. There are definitely similarities in two of the shades, I find the individual quad has more color payoff on the eyes.

New Superstar Lips

I reviewed the Superstar Lips formula last year here. I had mixed feelings because of the price and size of the product. I still do for this reason, but the formula is really nice, especially if you like a glossy lip. Three new shades caught my eye in Glow Kiss, Princess Kiss and Everlasting Kiss (the first two of these are exclusive to Charlotte Tilbury’s website). After hauling all three I decided to give the shimmery ones a try in Pillow Talk Diamonds and Lucky Diamonds as well.

My thoughts:

Glow Kiss is a sheer glossy beige, it’s super sheer on my lips but gives them a lips but better translucent glow
Princess Kiss is a beautiful soft light pink cream, it’s also sheer but gives a lovely pink tint
Everlasting Kiss is my favorite (and available at all counters) which is a neutral medium nude rose
Pillow Talk Diamonds is a metallic glittery pink gold, even though it has impressive full coverage with a smooth texture (no gritty feel at all) this one was a disaster on my lips! It looks absolutely horrible, I suppose it could be used as a topper but it’s so metallic I couldn’t wait to take it off.
Lucky Diamonds is a metallic warm copper, also smooth with full coverage, this one was a winner for me, I think the deeper base makes it a lot more wearable, it’s very shimmery but still very wearable, I wish it came in a plum or rose version

Overall I’m happy with the way all of them look except for Pillow Talk Diamonds. They are very sheer and I find their online stock photos and model photos very misleading. I find they look a lot more pigmented and opaque online than they do in real life – even with heavy lip layering. For the price I’d expect a lot more product at the very least. Still I really like the texture and finish. As much as I like the colors I think the deeper and brighter options I bought last year make for a better buy. I added a swatch of Pillow Talk at the end for reference.

Overall lots to love for easy everyday kind of makeup. I think every color in the Gorgeous Glowing Beauty palette is wearable and great for the more conservative beauty lover or for those who feel like they don’t know how to wear makeup. It’s truly easy to wear with easy to follow steps for a full face look and I do think it’s beautiful! At $75 it is fairly spendy, I bought mine during the Sephora Holiday bonus event for some savings.

For the Superstar Lips I still have the same mixed feelings: love the formula, don’t like the price, still feel online stock/promotional marketing photos are misleading. My dislikes won’t stop me from trying new shades if they’re launched in the future though.

The Superstar Lips in Everlasting Kiss is available at all Charlotte Tilbury counters. Glow Kiss and Princess Kiss appear to be exclusive to Charlotte Tilbury’s website.
