New Bite Beauty Launches – Haul Picks + Review

Bite Beauty New Launches Revamp

Bite Beauty revamped their entire product lineup and I have a haul review to share today! I’m still very sad they discontinued and reformulated the best lip balm I’ve tried but I’m happy to report the new Agave+ is very good.

In today’s haul post:

Agave+ Intensive Vegan Lip Mask

Bite Beauty Agave+ Lip Mask Buzzed

There are two new Agave+ Lip Masks in Clear and Buzzed (rose gold). I bought the tinted version and was pleasantly surprised. I found it hydrating, lush, smooth and lightly scented just like the original just a little less fruity smelling.

Buzzed is a deeper color vs the original Champagne, but it pretty much applies like a very sheer, almost clear shimmer on my lips. I found both new and original formulas worked pretty much the same on my lips. I did not notice any bad taste or bad smell for Buzzed. The only difference is the color and the newer version seems to be slightly thinner in texture, but it’s very very slight.

I’m surprised at all the overwhelmingly negative reviews online at Sephora for the new formula, although most of them seem to be for the Clear Agave color which I did not try. I was full on prepared to hate the new formula, but I don’t. Still I am upset the original was discontinued and wish they had added a new one to the line rather than pull the cult classic.

Power Move Creamy Matte Lip Crayon

Power Move Creamy Matte Lip Crayon review

I really love the new Power Move Creamy Matte Lip Crayons although they are heavily scented with a fruity scent. They’re described as matte but they still have a slight creamy sheen to the finish on my lips – which is actually a plus since I prefer it that way. These are twist up lip crayons with ultra rich pigment and long lasting power. They’re one swipe wonders pigment-wise although since they’re in crayon form, you do have to swipe multiple times to fill the entire lip. I went for the neutrals. Many of the colors are already sold out online at Sephora, but you can still find them in store (use the zip code locator on their website) and also at Bite Beauty. Colors I bought:

  • Sugarcane – pale creamy pink
  • Amaretto – perfect neutral nude
  • Leche – nude pink
  • Calvados – medium brown nude
  • Glace – mauve
  • Nonino – soft berry mauve
  • Honeycrisp – bright coral pink

I didn’t have any of the original lipsticks or pencils to compare. I did a major purge the last move we did over the summer and got rid of a lot of older products I had. Off the top of my head the new Glace looks darker/cooler than what I remember it being and on my complexion it makes me look like death. Sugarcane also feels like it’s lighter/more pastel than what I remember the lipstick being. All the other colors are solid wins for me. My top three favorites are Amaretto, Leche and Nonino.

Below looks wearing Leche and Honeycrisp. Foundation + powder are the new Bite formulas listed below.

Changemaker Skin-Optimizing Primer Normal to Oily

Bite Beauty Changemaker Skin Optimizing Primer Review

There are two primers in the lineup called the Changemaker Skin-Optimizing Primer. I opted for the Normal to Oily version and this is my least favorite product I tried. I used it a few different ways: on bare skin, over the Tatcha Water Cream, over the Tatcha Dewy Cream and over the Sisley Black Rose Skin Infusion Water Cream. The primer was not compatible with any moisturizer I tried. There was tons of separation from the moisturizer and foundation any time I used the primer.

If you are looking for a good mattifying product that doesn’t add any color to the skin this is a great product. As a foundation primer though it didn’t work for me – it caused the foundation on top to separate no matter how I tried. It also had a silicone feel that sat on my skin in an unpleasant way and made my skin feel a little itchy. Luckily I did not get any allergic reactions but this one was a solid miss for me.

Changemaker Supercharged Micellar Foundation and Flexible Coverage Pressed Powder

Bite Beauty Changemaker Foundation and Powder

For the bases I swatched a few colors in store and decided on M70 for the foundation and Medium 1 for the powder. I found both compatible with my moisturizers (just did not work well with the Bite Beauty primer).

The Changemaker Supercharged Micellar Foundation has smooth medium coverage and is easy to blend with fingers or a sponge. It looks very natural and has a semi-matte finish. There’s enough pigment to cover my freckles and sun spots. I was torn between M65 and M70, I’m probably in the middle right now. Since I’m at my lightest right now and tan easily I opted for M70 which is just a tad too dark but will be an exact match once the sunshine returns.

I found it lasted a long time on my skin, but depending on the moisturizer I used it did have a tendency to settle around my mouth/smile lines a little. Otherwise it performed really well and held up all day without separating or fading. It does have a silicone-like feel to it but it’s not irritating or heavy. I really liked that there was no darkening or oxidation on my skin. I like it a lot but it’s not my favorite formula.

I found the Flexible Coverage Pressed Powder shades odd as a lot of them looked really peachy. Powders tend to darken a lot on my skin so I went with a color I thought would be a little bit lighter. Medium 1 works perfectly for my skin – it’s semi-sheer and applies smoothly with a brush to set/mattify the entire face. It’s very lightweight and I like it a lot! I haven’t tried it with other foundation formulas but I love it with the Bite Beauty foundation.

Bare skin, applying foundation, foundation all over and then set with powder below, wearing Changemaker Supercharged Micellar Foundation in M70 and Pressed Powder in Medium 1. Sweater by Everlane.

Bite Beauty Foundation and Powder before after bare skin

Overall I found the new Agave+ Lip Mask and Power Move Creamy Matte Lip Crayons to be hits for me. I really wanted to love the new base products but it’s not 100% love. The primer is a miss. The foundation and powder are good, but not holy grail material for me. I will continue to reach for them and use both, but they’re not must-haves.

Have you checked out the new Bite Beauty launches yet? What did you think of the new lip mask versus the original?

Chanel Nail Polish

Best Chanel Le Vernis Neutrals + Soft Shades for Spring

January 23, 2020

Best Chanel Le Vernis Neutrals

By popular request I’m rounding up my favorite Chanel Le Vernis Longwear Nail Polish neutrals! This has been one of my favorite nail polish formulas as long as I can remember. I’ve been a fan through several reformulations and love the colors they launch. I’ve also added a few other softer mauves and purples I think are nice for spring with swatch comparisons.

Most of these you can still find now at Chanel.com and most retailers, although some colors are limited-edition and are harder to find (like Afterglow and Chicness). Organdi is the one I wear the most and also the shade I get the most compliments on. A lot of you wanted swatch comparisons to see the different undertones and depth.

Below left to right is: Blanc White 548, Afterglow 703, Organdi 504, Bleached Mauve 646, Daydream 735, Chicness 612 (discontinued, from cruise 2018), Purple Ray 709 and Mirage 739

Chanel Nail Polish Blanc White, Organdi, Bleached Mauve and Daydream

Below swatch set 2, all available at Chanel.com still except Chicness (discontinued) and Afterglow (but still available at Saks right now):

Chanel Le Vernis New Dawn, Afterglow, Purple Ray, Chicness and Mirage

My top three favorites right now include Organdi (probably my most-worn neutral), Daydream (new for spring-summer 2020) and Afterglow (from cruise 2019).

I like to use these with the Chanel Le Gel Top Coat for extra shine and lasting power. If you apply properly you will find these last a long time. If you’re getting tip wear or chipping, it’s likely you’re not coating the tip enough with polish or the top coat. Just like any paint, when it dries, the product shrinks so make sure you paint all the way around to the tops. Also note that not all top coats are compatible. For example Seche Vite is a great brand for quick dry top coats, but it runs on the thick side and always shrinks on me no matter what brand of polish I use. As it shrinks it pulls the polish around the edges and causes early tip wear.

Pat McGrath Labs

Pat McGrath Golden Opulence Collection Review

January 21, 2020

Pat McGrath Lunar New Year Collection 2020 | The Beauty Look Book

For the Lunar New Year holiday coming up this weekend Pat McGrath Labs launched a special Golden Opulence Collection with a new eyeshadow palette and two mini lip gloss trio sets. I ordered both earlier this year and could not be more happy with my haul picks. A few weeks later the team sent the palette as well for review so my backup is being gifted to a friend. I have a look at the new MTHRSHP Sublime Eyeshadow Palette in Golden Opulence and one of the two Mini Lust Gloss Trios in Bronze Opulence.

Pat McGrath Chinese New Year Launch 2020

MTHRSHP Sublime Eyeshadow Palette in Golden Opulence

MTHRSHP Sublime: Golden Opulence

The MTHRSHP Sublime Eyeshadow Palette in Golden Opulence is her 6-pan format which is my favorite one to date. It comes in a mirrored cardboard compact and has a magnetic closure with an elastic band for extra security to keep it closed. The palette has a mix of mattes and shimmers and they apply beautifully on the eye for a golden pink sunset look. I found pigment to be excellent and smooth with long-lasting power. Colors are easy to blend and while it does pull warm it has a few neutrals to balance it out which prevents it from being too warm.

Shimmers almost have a creamy feel to them as they’re soft and almost bouncy – but they are definitely powders!

Pat McGrath MTHRSHP Sublime: Golden Opulence

Pat McGrath Labs MTHRSHP Sublime: Golden Opulence swatches

Colors include the following:

  • Eternal Opulence is a shimmery neutral-warm champagne
  • Tranquility a warm matte brown (looks more neutral-cool in the pan, applies more warm on my arm but more neutral on the eye)
  • Lotus Luxe shimmering soft raspberry
  • Prosperity is a deep matte brown
  • Moon Phase is a shimmery taupe mauve with silver flecks
  • Gold Fortune is a yellow sparkling gold

Mini Lust Gloss Trio

Pat McGrath Bronze Opulence Mini Lip Gloss Trio

She has two new Mini Lust Gloss Trios for the Lunar New Year, I bought Bronze Opulence which actually has two colors I already own. I do love the mini sizes and think they are nice to try if you don’t want to commit to the full size without trying. I think her Lust Gloss is among the best in the market for the smooth cushiony texture and shine.

  • Pale Fire Nectar is a shimmering pink glitter suspended in clearish base (there is no gritty texture or feel though)
  • Flesh 6 is a warm brown red cream
  • Lunar Bronze is new to this kit only (at the moment) and is a smooth metallic red with rich pigment

A few other colors swatched next to the kit. You can see other LUST Gloss reviews and lip swatches here and here.

Pat McGrath Mini Lip Gloss Trio Bronze Opulence

Overall lasting power is average for a gloss. I don’t mind reapplying frequently. They’re comfortable and so SO pretty on the lips. I probably should have passed on this as I already own two of the shades, but I have no regrets buying as I use her glosses a lot. They are quite tiny compared to the full size making them more of a sampler size in my opinion. Enough product to give it a proper test with several wears, but still very tiny.

Look wearing the Golden Opulence Palette plus the three Lunar New Year Glosses in the Bronze Opulence Kit. For skintone reference I’m not a Pat McGrath Skin Fetish Foundation match to Light-Medium 14 (over the summer I was Medium 15, review in this post here).

Pat McGrath Golden Opulence Palette Makeup look

Pat McGrath Golden Opulence 2020 Collection Review

Overall solid performers on both the palette and gloss. I think this is a beautiful collection that can be create some fun looks! If you already own a lot of her palettes you will probably find similar shades across different palettes although I didn’t see any exact dupes.

You can find the Pat McGrath Golden Opulence Collection out now. Available at Pat McGrath and Sephora.

Have you tried/swatched any of these yet? What did you think?

New Spring Beauty Launches at Nordstrom

I’m excited to share my first beauty haul of the year! I’ve been testing out some new products that recently launched at Nordstrom and I’ve partnered with them today to share my thoughts plus a new year beauty look. Nordstrom is truly one of my favorite places to shop for beauty – I’m constantly checking their New Arrivals page alongside their Gift With Purchase section. I hope you find today’s haul post helpful! Everything featured in this post are items I purchased myself.

Charlotte Tilbury Queen of Glow

Charlotte Tilbury Queen of Glow Eyeshadow Palette

Charlotte Tilbury Queen of Glow Eyeshadow Palette

One of the newest launches from Charlotte Tilbury is her Queen of Glow Eyeshadow Palette. There were several limited-edition quads over the holiday but I found them too warm for my complexion. Queen of Glow has a better mix of golds and champagnes for my complexion without the red tones. There are 3 shimmers and 1 matte. All the colors are ultra pigmented, smooth and long-lasting. I think it’s gorgeous!

Closer look wearing: NARS Tinted Glow Booster in Simos + Tangsi mixed, Charlotte Tilbury Color Corrector Medium, Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Powder Medium, NARS Blush in Tempted + Orgasm X Mixed, Anastasia Brow Wiz in Soft Brown, Cle de Peau Liquid Eyeliner, Charlotte Tilbury Eyeshadow Palette in Queen of Glow, Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil-Infused Gloss in In the Buff

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Vanish! Color Corrector

Charlotte Tilbury Color Corrector Medium

I also ordered her Magic Vanish! Color Corrector in Medium which isn’t new, but new to me. It has a brightening peachy look to it and it’s super opaque. I found it a good color for my medium olive tone skin – a tiny little dab on the fingers patted under the eyes conceals any darkness and it blends without caking. Do note that a little goes a very long way so you don’t need a lot. I use this instead of concealer on days I need extra coverage or brightening. It’s very peach in color – it doesn’t match the skin. The colors are designed to counter darkness and pigment in the skin.

New NARS Blushes

New Nars Blush Orgasm X and Tempted

above left: Orgasm X, right: Tempted

There are some new blushes from NARS this season. I wanted to order all of them but limited myself to 2 colors in Orgasm X and Tempted. Orgasm X is a deeper brighter version of Orgasm and has that peachy gold shimmer to it. It’s quite opaque but easy to blend. Tempted is a pretty soft nude shimmer, on my medium olive skin it looks like a neutral highlighter with a bit of depth. It makes my skin glow! If you’re fair and are looking for a good nude blush to wear, I highly recommend looking into this one!

New from Bobbi Brown

Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil-Infused Gloss

For the lips I picked up some of the new Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil-Infused Glosses in In the Buff (soft nude pink, one I’m wearing in this post), New Romantic (soft mauve) and Wild Card (bright coral peach). They’re sheer so the color is subtle. They feel wonderfully smooth with a cushiony feel and glide on the lips nicely. I find them hydrating but not heavy.

YSL lip love

YSL Rouge Volupte Rock n Shine

YSL also launched a new formula called Rouge Volupte Rock N Shine and as a huge fan of the original Rouge Volutpe Shines I knew I had to try some of the new ones. These have a silvery shimmer in the center in the shape of a star. The shimmer is visible and noticeable making the overall color look a bit lighter and more shimmery than what you see in the tube. 1 Nude Solo is a pale nude pink, 3 Pink Flow is a soft baby pink, 10 Pink Bass is a deeper rose pink. They’re glossy with a high shine finish. Pigment is sheer-medium.

NARS Tinted Glow Boosters

NARS Tinted Glow Booster vs Ginger Concealer and Vanuatu Foundation

Last but not least is my first look at the NARS Tinted Glow Boosters. There are four shades total and I picked up the two middle shades in Simos (medium) and Tangsi (medium-dark). My foundation match in their Natural Radiant Longwear Foundation is usually Vanuatu, but I’ve lost my tan this season and wear Punjab. My best concealer match is still the Radiant Creamy Concealer in Ginger. The Tinted Glow Boosters sheer glowy skin-toned bases with a very slight shimmer to them. The shimmer is very subtle and almost disappears on the skin.

I’m the closest match to Simos right now, but I tan very easily and to add a bit more color I’ll mix in a few pumps of Tangsi to blend all over.

Below left, one pump of Simos (top) and one pump of Tangsi (bottom)
Below right on the face, Simos

NARS Tinted Glow Booster in Simos + Tangsi

You can use these a number of ways but I like it best mixing Simos and Tangsi together then applying with a beautyblender all over like you would a sheer foundation. It offers minimal coverage and glow, almost like a tinted moisturizer without the moisturizer aspect.

I have mixed in equal pumps of the Tinted Glow Booster with foundation like the Armani Luminous Silk (I wear 6.5) or NARS Natural Radiant Foundation to give it a more translucent look. I have some swatches below to a few other shades. It’s thicker in texture than the Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow, it’s not nearly as luminous or opaque as the Hollywood Flawless Filter.

Chanel Beauty Spring-Summer 2020

January 14, 2020

Chanel Spring-Summer 2020 makeup collection

Chanel Beauty Spring-Summer 2020 just launched and it offers the prettiest palette of soft neutrals for the new year. I’ve been playing with the items for a few weeks now and love everything. The colors are soft and glowy for a new fresh look. You can find all the pieces available now at Chanel.com. The Chanel beauty team sent the collection for review and I have swatches of everything today including:

Illuminating Powder

Chanel Spring 2020 Eclat de Desert Highlighter

The Illuminating Powder Elcat du Desert is one of the softest highlighting powders I’ve ever tried. It’s quite powdery with a lot of kick up on a brush but blends beautifully and seamlessly on the skin. It’s a soft cool-toned pink embossed with a pattern that looks like a desert. The texture is smooth and gives the skin a really pretty glow. I find it unique enough to justify owning even with all the other highlighter options out there. Lasting power is excellent – it stays put all day. Pigment is soft but buildable. It’s smooth and doesn’t emphasize texture or pores on my face.

Chanel Spring 2020 Eclat de Desert Highlighter and Baume Essentiel Golden Light Swatch

Baume Essentiel

Chanel Spring 2020 Baume Essentiel Golden Light

This is my first time trying the Baume Essentiel. The new shade for spring is Golden Light which is a sheer golden bronze. I would love this in a pigmented powder, gloss or eyeshadow form – I think the color is truly gorgeous! The baume itself is ultra dewy and glossy. If you like the concept of a dewy highlight like the RMS Living Luminizers, then you’ll love these. My bestie has been raving about the original Baume Essentiel for months wondering why I didn’t buy it. Dewy balms for the face aren’t my thing – but Golden Light is fun to play around with. I see myself wearing it more on the lips vs face.

On my medium skin once it’s blended it pretty much disappears into a very subtle glossy glow. It almost matches my skin tone. If you have fair or light skin tones it will most likely look deeper and give you more of a bronzed look.

Chanel Spring 2020 Baume Essentiel in Golden Light

Les 4 Ombres

Chanel Spring 2020 Les 4 Ombres Elemental and Warm Memories

There are two new Les 4 Ombres quads for spring. Elemental is the prettiest soft palette of neutral pink and mauve with some taupe shimmer. It’s very neutral-looking on my skin and reminds me of a more subtle version of the NARS Kalahari duo but in quad form with more pinks and mattes. Elemental is the perfect everyday kind of neutral quad.

Warm Memories is a warmer option with a mix of mauve, plum and shimmering orange. It’s a lot more wearable than I anticipated but still pulls very warm. Pigment is medium but buildable and lasting power of both quads is excellent without any fallout.

Chanel Spring 2020 Les 4 Ombres Elemental and Warm Memories swatches

Stylo Ombre et Contour

Chanel Spring 2020 Stylo Ombre et Contour

Chanel Spring 2020 Stylo Ombre et Contour swatches

There are two Stylo Ombre Et Contour products which are essentially chubby pencils that are in the twist up format. The two colors for spring are perfect contouring shades for the lids. I simply swipe on the lids and blend with my finger. Contour Mauve is the perfect my-lids-but-better soft mauve nude pink. Contour Brun is a deeper but very soft brown that adds depth in a natural way for my skin tone. I tried it as a liner and it gives a soft diffused look. They are both creamy, easy to blend and have a matte finish that stays put once it sets.

Ombre Premiere Laque

Chanel Spring 2020 Ombre Premiere Laque

The Ombre Premiere Laque is a new formula of liquid shadow. They have the perfect amount of shimmer and glow when you blend on the lids. I played around with these a few different ways – I can use one or two all over the lids for a wash of color. They also layer on top of powder shadow almost like a top coat. They are like a thicker fluid, not quite creams. Texture is easy to blend and they dry down nicely to a dry finish for long wear. These come with a sponge tip applicator which is sturdy and makes application easy. I blend either with my fingers or a separate cream shadow brush. My favorite color is Quartz Rose and Rising Sun, but really all the colors are gorgeous.

The packaging reminds me of the older Chanel D’Eau Fluids from many years ago, but the fluid ones were more of a watery bases with pigment suspended. The new Ombre Premieres are thicker and not nearly as watery.

Chanel Spring 2020 Ombre Premiere Laque swatches

Lipsticks

Chanel Spring 2020 Lipsticks

The two lip colors are bold this season. They pull very warm and have super rich opaque pigment. The Rouge Allure Velvet Extreme in Endless is a warm bold pink red. I’ve reviewed this formula a few times in the past here and here. This is Chanel’s ultra pigmented matte lipstick that has a velvety finish but does not look or feel dry. They’re very creamy and opaque and smooth.

The Rouge Allure in Rouge Brulant is lighter in color but still very bold and warm. I’d describe it as a warm brick shade. Formula of both is smooth, easy to blend and they glide on the lips flawlessly. There’s no detectable scent in either. The Rouge Allure formula is like a classic lipstick, bold and opaque and creamy with a slight sheen.

Chanel Spring 2020 Rouge Allure Velvet Extreme Endless and Rouge Allure Rouge Brulant

Le Vernis Nail Color

Chanel Spring 2020 Le Vernis Daydream and Mirage

Last but not least are the two new Le Vernis Nail Polishes in Daydream which is the prettiest mauve pink cream and Mirage which is a gorgeous dusty purple. Both have a glossy finish. There is a very slight transparent quality to the color but I can get full coverage with 2 coats. I’m obsessed with Daydream which pulls more muted on the fingers once I get 2 coats and it dries down.

Look 2 wearing:

Chanel Spring Makeup 2020 Golden Light and Warm Memories

Overall I think this is a beautiful collection to start off the year. Everything performs well to the typical Chanel standards for high quality textures and lasting power. My recommendations for picking items would be based on your color preferences you see yourself wearing a lot. Quality-wise everything is phenomenal.

My top picks are the Eclat du Desert Illuminating Powder, Elemental Quad, Daydream Le Vernis, both Ombre Contour Pencils and any of the new Ombre Premiere Laque. I would have liked to see a few more lip options but there are always lots of launches closer to February anyways. The new Rouge Allure Camelias have just launched online but I have not yet tested them. For the eyeshadow quads, I loved how both performed. In terms of color selection I can’t say whether or not they are must-haves yet as there are a lot of new launches this year including a few options from Charlotte Tilbury, Natasha Denona and Tom Ford. I’ll have reviews on all of those in the upcoming weeks and will be able to compare them later. I do really like the vibe of Elemental – I think it’s different from the popular reds and oranges these days. It makes for the perfect classic neutral eye.

Did you check out anything from the spring collection yet? What did you think?

Winter Skin Care Savers

makeup bag set from Cuyana

It’s our third winter in Florida and I cannot believe how the time has flown! It feels like it was just a short while ago that we were driving across the country to start a new chapter of our lives. Most of the year we find Florida to be sunny and warm but we’ve had a cold winter (it’s been colder than I remember it being in past years) and everything is significantly more dry. My skin has definitely felt it and so I’ve changed up my routine. Here are some things I’ve been loving recently for lips, hands and body to combat the dry weather.

Hydrating Lip Favorites

Favorite Hydrating Lip Essentials NARS, Hourglass, EM Cosmetics, Fresh

I’m still recovering from shock that Bite Beauty discontinued my holy grail lip mask and I know many of you are too. They’ve done some sneak peeks of their brand revamp on social and they’re launching their new Agave+ Intensive Vegan Lip Mask on January 10th at Sephora. I will be ordering it to try out. In the meantime, what I have in rotation now:

  • NARS Afterglow Lip Balms* are my most reached for balms these days. I always keep one in my purse! The original Orgasm shade swatched here. New spring shades swatched here. I’m constantly asked for an alternative to the Dior Addict Lip Glow because they often shift to an unflattering color. The ones from NARS have a more subtle color change and are nicely hydrating. I can wear it to the gym, use it for touch ups or on low-key makeup days.
  • By Terry Baume de Rose (mini size shown which was limited-edition) is the thickest most lush hydrating pot lip balm I’ve tried. It’s also one of the most expensive lip splurges I’ve made and repurchased several times over because I do think it’s 100% worth it. I will need to repurchase the full size very soon as I’ve nearly finished all the minis I’ve kept on hand.
  • EM Cosmetics Lip Cushion in Magic Hour* is more of a color product rather than skincare, but it’s the most hydrating lipstick I’ve ever tried! It feels lush and hydrating and smooth on the lips and is very comforting. I feel like it is a truly universally flattering color (as described) and it comes in the prettiest peachy pink nude with a lush shine. I hope they will launch this in more colors! Full review + swatches soon.
  • Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil in any of the tinted shades are the best lip oils I’ve tried. There are a number of “oil-infused” launches this spring and I will be doing an updated lip roundup soon. Many of them just don’t hold up to my expectations for hydration. A lot of them will add a nice shine to the lips like a gloss but don’t have the same hydrating properties like a true oil. As expensive as the Hourglass ones are I think they’re among the best. You can see the tinted versions swatched in my last year’s balm hits and misses here.
  • Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment is a balm I always find myself gifting away. I accumulate a lot from GWPs, press samples and various sets so I’m always splitting them up and sending them off to friends, family and readers. I finally decided to keep one and try it for myself and WOW! This is significantly more hydrating than the regular Fresh Sugar Lip Treatments (ones with tint) and I absolutely love it. It’s hydrating, smooth, smells delicious and prevents peeling. Also available in mini size in various sets like this 6-piece Travel Size Set, Travel Duo, On-The-Go Set to name a few.

Body + Hand Care

Winter Skincare Hand and Body Creams

For the body I’ve been loving a few unscented body creams or super light oils. As much as I love a good fragranced body lotion or cream, sometimes I just want something that won’t interfere with my perfume or one I can sleep in easily. Sometimes heavily perfumed face products or body creams prevent me from falling asleep.

Two body creams I’ve been loving are the Necessaire Body Lotion in the Fragrance Free version. I ordered it over the holiday as I’ve seen it everywhere on Instagram and I was influenced to buy it. I really like that it’s hydrating, smooth and has a soft velvety dry down. It absorbs into the skin nicely and doesn’t feel too heavy. I think it’s reasonably priced. (On the nails is the new Chanel Le Vernis in Daydream, review soon.)

I’ve also loved the Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Nude Cream which I reviewed last November when it launched (it made my favorites list). It’s now also available at Sephora. I still use it almost every day and love how it’s hydrating, soothing and smooths out the skin. I’m not the biggest fan of the packaging because I find it a little bulky but it’s not a deal breaker and I actually do like the pump. It has a soft velvety dry down so it’s not greasy feeling. I feel like this is like the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream in body cream form (many of my friends have told me they’ve used the face cream as body cream).

I also wanted to mention that the Kate Somerville Dry Skin Saver is another great unscented body cream that works for my skin. Both Andrew and I really like it.

For body oils the Chanel Gentle Oil for Body and Hair* has been at the top of my list for body oils. It’s lightweight, absorbs beautifully, makes the skin ultra soft and has the most beautiful lightweight fresh scent. If you’re familiar with the Fresh Body Cream version, the oil smells the same.

For hand creams I’ve been reaching for the Chanel La Creme Main Texture Riche and Le Lift the most. Some other of my favorites I’ve had in rotation in my Hand and Nail Care Essentials post.

Skin Care Loves

Winter Skincare Favorites Chanel, Augustinus Bader, Joanna Vargas and Fresh

For skincare my favorite moisturizer is still the Chanel Hydra Beauty Camellia Water Cream* for it’s lightweight texture and beautiful finish. On days I need extra moisture I’ve found myself loving the SkinRX Lab MadeCera Cream* that I got from Soko Glam for an ultra calming and affordable hydrating cream. (Full review here.)

I’ve also really been loving the Augustinus Bader Cream and Rich Cream. I ordered a limited-edition set from their site but they now have the 15 ml available at Sephora and they still have the Duo Set 2 x 30 ml available at Nordstrom. I’ve been testing the Augustinus Bader Cream, Rich Cream and Victoria Beckham Cell Rejuvinating Moisturizing Primer for several weeks now. The Rich Cream is the best for winter or very dry skin. The Cream is my favorite for year round for my skin type. Both of these made my skin look significantly smoother and healthier. I think the Victoria Beckham version is nice for summer but it is the lightest out of the three and didn’t add a significant amount of moisture for my skin.

I will most likely be purchasing the regular Cream in the larger size once I’ve used up the mini.

For a more affordable option that works I’ve also been loving the Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream. The rose scent is subtle and isn’t overpowering once it absorbs into the skin. I like that it really is super hydrating without feeling heavy or greasy. It calms my skin on the days it has flare ups from allergic reactions. It soothes when it’s super dry and itchy. I think it’s a nice one to try!

For night time I usually let my skin breathe naturally without product except lip balm or eye cream, but I have started using the Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate Oil again and love it. It helps balance out the skin overnight and is a great moisturizer that absorbs into the skin. You can also find it in a mini size in their Nourishing Essentials Set that comes with their Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado.

For eyes I’ve been rotating between the Tatcha Silk Peony Melting Eye Cream* and the Kiehl’s Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado. Both are super hydrating and have helped smooth out those tiny little lines that creep up when my skin is dry. I alternate between the two for day or night. They are on the rich/heavy side so when the hot humid weather returns to Florida these will most likely only be used at night for me.

For face-mists I’ve been loving the Chanel Sublimage La Brume for extra moisture but with a super fine mist. I feel like a broken record raving about it but I truly love it. I never want to be without it.

For sheet masks my I feel like my favorites will forever be the 111Skin ones. I have tried a few other ones recently (roundup soon) and really love the Joanna Vargas Forever Glow Anti-Aging Face Mask for a hydrating calming one and the Twilight Face Mask for deeper moisture and softening. The Forever Glow feels fresh and hydrating while the Twilight is heavier and makes the skin feel like baby’s skin. She has a Glow to Go Mask Set that has one of every sheet mask formula if you want to try them out before buying a full set.

That wraps up my winter skincare favorites! Would love to hear what yours are right now. I know Florida has a mild winter compared to other places, but it’s still dry and I hope this roundup gives you some ideas on what to try in case you’re looking for extra moisture for your skin.

I have the new Bite Beauty launches on my radar and also really want to try the Drunk Elephant F-Balm Mask. Also in case you missed it last year the Tatcha Kissu Lip Mask is finally back!

Estee Lauder Act IV by Danielle Lauder Review

I’m excited to share a look at the latest from Estée Lauder today! This spring they’ve launched a new limited-edition makeup collection called Act IV created by Estée’s great-granddaughter Danielle Lauder. The collection is filled with soft dreamy pastels that will give a delicate wash of color for the eyes, lips and complexion.  It’s inspired by Danielle’s passion for acting and Hollywood glamour. I’m thrilled to have been given an early sneak peek at the collection! Today I’ve partnered with Estée Lauder to give you a closer look at all the Act IV pieces today.

Everything is presented in gorgeous rose gold and marble packaging giving everything an extra special touch. The overall feel and look is soft and delicate which is perfect for this upcoming spring season.

Cinemattic Complexion Liquid

Estee Lauder Act IV Cinemattic Complexion Liquid

The Cinemattic Complexion Liquid is a sheer complexion product designed to smooth and blur the look of your pores. It comes in a pump applicator and dispenses fluid that blends into the skin with a transparent matte finish. It smooths the complexion in a natural way and helps prepare your skin for foundation. I was really impressed with the blurring properties and weightless finish. I found it worked well with a number of foundations in my collection.

Spotlight Highlighter

Estee Lauder Act IV Spotlight Highlighter Review

Estee Lauder Act IV Spotlight Highlighter Swatch

The Spotlight Highlighter is my favorite piece in the collection. It has the most stunning mix of lavender and gold honey. The colors are swirled in a marbled effect and it gives the skin a beautiful glow! The shimmer is smooth and adheres well to the skin. It has an almost creamy gel finish and I highly recommend giving this one a try!

Party Puff Starlucent Filtered Powder

Estee Lauder Act IV Party Puff Starlucent Filtered Powder

The Party Puff Starlucent Filtered Powder is a loose powder with a sheer coral tint. It’s a brightening filter powder that adds radiance to the skin. You can apply it all over for a rosy glow to brighten and smooth out the skin but I prefer this as a blush. When layered over a cream blush or bronzer the peach tones pop more for a coral flush. The effect is like a watercolor glow.

Best Picture Multi-Look Palette

Estee Lauder Act IV Best Picture Multi-Look Palette review

The Act IV makeup collection also has a soft eyeshadow quad called the Best Picture Multi-Look Palette. It has a mix of soft pastels that have a delicate romantic vibe. There is a soft satin matte light coral (nice for all over the lids or to add warmth to the eyes), a shimmering ivory (to highlight), a shimmery soft lavender and matte charcoal. Colors are soft but buildable. I like the matte charcoal blended for a soft smoky eye look.

Luxe Lip Creme + Lip Duet Tint and Balm

Estee Lauder Act IV by Danielle Lauder Review

There are four lip color options in this launch. The two Luxe Lip Crémes are high pigment lipsticks. I like mixing both of the shades together to create a custom coral pink. Reel Coral is a bright coral that has a matte finish with gold flecks. Reel Rose is a cool-toned soft pale pink with a subtle pearly gold sheen mixed in.

For added hydration the Lip Duet Tint and Balm has a clear light pink balm on one end and a sheer tinted berry red balm on the other.  They come with a marble case to hold both on each end. You can interchange the Luxe Lip Créme with these in the tube if you want to mix and match! The balms are soft and have a slightly glossy sheen. Finish of the red pink side is sheer.
