Diptyque Le Grand Tour Collection Picks

Diptyque Le Grand Tour Collection Review

Diptyque launched a 5-piece collection to celebrate their 60th Anniversary with their Le Grand Tour Collection. Each item is inspired by a different destination. As the ultimate Diptyque lover I ordered 4 of the 5 items immediately and have been completely obsessed. I love the special editions from Diptyque. If you’re in New York they have a Pop Up for the collection from September 10 through October 10th. I ordered all the items except for one of the perfumes. If you have smelled it let me know what you thought!

The design of each item has special meaning to the city the product is named after. I found it really interesting to read more about it on their Virtual Walkthrough page.

Paris Candle

Diptyque Paris Candle Le Grand Tour | The Beauty Lookbook

The Paris Le Grand Tour Candle ($105) is the standard 190 g size and comes with a sculpted wood lid. This has a beautiful earthy woody soft feel perfect for fall, but I really think it’s good for year round. Throw is on the softer side but still noticeable in our home. I do think other scents have a stronger more potent throw, but this one is still very good. It also comes with a lid which is different from their Standard Black Lacquered Candle Lid ($28).

Notes include: Myrrh, wood patina accord, Paris stone accord

If you’re a Diptyque fan you probably already own the Paris City Candle (part of their City Candle Collection). The notes in the Paris Le Grand Tour Candle are different from the Paris City Candle. The latest Le Grand Tour is more earthy and woody while the City version is a brighter but mellow floral. I love both even though they’re very different.

Venise Eau de Toilette Trio

Diptyque Venise Trio Le Grand Tour Collection

Perfume can be so hit or miss so I ordered the one I knew I would like. I love vetiver so I ordered the Venise Travel Trio ($95) and absolutely love it. This has a similar but greener vibe compared to the Le Labo Edition Hotel scents (which have black tea, green tea and tobacco leaves). The Diptyque Venise perfume is a lovely green vetiver kind of perfume with good lasting power. I wish this were permanent! I may buy a backup of this since I know the travel sizes will be used up in no time for me.

Notes: basil, green bell pepper, vetiver

Milies Scented Oval

Diptyque Milies Scented Oval

I’ve owned a few of the scented ovals from Diptyque and the lasting power isn’t the best but I still think they’re beautiful. Milies Scented Oval ($70) has a really potent fig scent that reminds me of their Figuier Candle scent, but a little sweeter. I think the design and accent beads are beautiful. In my experience the scent fades after a few months – they still make nice accent pieces though!

Notes: Immortelle absolute, ambroxan, fig wood accord

Byblos Candle

Diptyque Byblos Candle

The Byblos Candle ($165) comes in a beautiful marbled clay vessel inspired by wisps of coffee smoke. It’s a nice fresh and spicy kind of scent with incredible throw. This comes in the 300 g size which is same size as the Glass Colored Candles.

Notes: coffee, atlas cedar, white musk

I’m still debating whether or not to order the Kyoto Perfume – the notes sound really beautiful but I am unsure of buying it without smelling it first. Now that it’s sold out at Diptyque and Nordstrom I kinda want it now! (Still available at Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale’s and Net-A-Porter.)

I’m really happy with all the items I purchased and have no regrets buying sight unseen. I ordered mine online from Diptyque but the collection is also available at other retailers like Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdale’s and all other Diptyque retailers. If you’re ordering online at Diptyque make sure you check their Exclusive Special Offers page for gift with purchase options!

Top 5 Everyday Eyeshadow Palettes

September 10, 2021

Top 5 Best Everyday Eyeshadow Palettes

Today I’m rounding up my Top 5 Everyday Eyeshadow Palettes! These are the ones I’ve been reaching for the most this year I feel are best suited for everyday wear. Would love to hear what your favorites are in the comments!

Chanel Candeur Et Experience

Chanel Les 4 Ombres in Candeur Et Experience

Chanel Les 4 Ombres in Candeur Et Experience 268 ($62) is probably one that has surprised me as being super wearable. It has a red shade which I normally don’t wear but the combination of the other browns with the red makes for a really good everyday eye look for me. It’s the one of the top 3 eyeshadow quads that get the most compliments. Pigment is medium but buildable for a soft look. Lasting power is good and stays put all day.

Wearing: Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation in B50, Poudre Universelle Libre in 30, Les 4 Ombres in Candeur Et Experience, Joues Contraste Blush in Alezane, Rouge Allure Velvet in Low-Key

Chanel Les 4 Ombres in Candeur Et Experience

If you want a more neutral-cool or cooler toned option, try Chanel Les 4 Ombres Clair Obscur (all matte cool neutrals) or Tisse Rivoli (neutral-cool shimmers)

Charlotte Tilbury Bella Sofia

Charlotte Tilbury Eyeshadow Palette Bella Sofia

Charlotte Tilbury Luxury Eye Palette in Bella Sofia ($53) is one of my all-time favorites for an everyday look. It has wearable brown and bronze tones I think are flattering on a wide range of skin tones and eye colors. Colors include a soft pale champagne shimmer, warm coppery brown shimmer, deeper brown shimmer and a gold sparkle topper. (The name of this used to be Dolce Vita but they changed it to Bella Sofia.)

Charlotte Tilbury The Dolce Vita Quad

If you want no sparkle/glitter try her Super Nudes Easy Eye Palette (soft velvety luminous matte) or The Sophisticate (all matte, neutral-cool tones).

Makeup By Mario Master Mattes Eyeshadow Palette

Makeup by Mario Master Mattes Eyeshadow Palette

Makeup By Mario Master Mattes Eyeshadow Palette ($48) is one of my newest discoveries and I cannot believe how long it took me to finally try it. It 100% lives up to the hype with soft blendable mattes. All the colors perform well (no chalky finish in any of them). It has a good range of neutrals with different undertones and browns in super flattering colors.

If you like all mattes and neutrals, get this one.

Patrick Ta Major Dimension Eyeshadow Palette

Patrick TA Major Dimension Eyeshadow Palette review

Patrick Ta Major Dimension Eyeshadow Palette ($68) is neutral bronze champagne perfection. It has everything you need for a complete eye look including 2 cream browns that work really well as a base. The remaining colors include a mix of mattes, shimmers, sparkle toppers. This is the second most complimented palette I own. You can create a lot of looks with this one and I think it’s very wearable even with the sparkle glitters.

Quality wise this one is not the best that I have tried. Other brands like Natasha Denona, Tom Ford and Anastasia Beverly Hills have a better more finely milled quality and texture, but the one from Patrick Ta is still very good and wearable.

Too Faced Born This Way Natural Nudes

Too Faced Born This Way Natural Nudes Eyeshadow Palette

Too Faced Born This Way Natural Nudes ($48) is another favorite I tried this year and I also think this is lovely! I was worried the metallic shimmers and sparkles would be too trendy for me but they are really wearable when layered on top of the mattes. There is a definitely a noticeable sparkle with the lighter shades but they adhere well and I think they are very wearable. I love this one because it has a great range of colors from light, medium and deep.

Worn in my Rose Hermes Silky Blush Review:

Hermes Rosy Lip Enhancer Rose Abricote + Silky Blush Powder Rose Tan

_________

A few of you have asked whether I prefer the Patrick Ta or Too Faced and I would say it’s a tough pick. They’re both unique in their own way. I like that the Patrick Ta Palette has 2 creams that are really good in quality and pigment. I also like the color range. The Too Faced has a bit more variety with the pink and rose tones mixed in.

Out of the two I would say the one from Patrick Ta is a bit more conservative on the sparkle side while the Too Faced is a bit more glitzy/trendy. Both have some intense sparkle toppers so your mileage may vary depending on how much sparkle you are comfortable wearing.

There are lots of other great eyeshadow palettes I own and still wear. It was tough to narrow it down to my top 5 but after careful thought I picked the ones I find myself reaching for the most this year. Runner ups I would also consider everyday kind of eyeshadow palettes include:

Charlotte Tilbury Super Nudes Collection

September 7, 2021

Charlotte Tilbury Super Nudes Collection Review | The Beauty Lookbook

Charlotte Tilbury launched her new Super Nudes Collection and as a neutral lip lover I’m thrilled for the new additions to her lineup! In today’s review:

Supernudes Face Palette

Charlotte Tilbury Nudegasm Face palette | The Beauty Lookbook

The Supernudes Face Palette has two shimmering highlighters and two satin matte contouring shades. The colors are very wearable and the shimmer isn’t too sharp which I like. For me this is a highlighting/contouring palette – I still prefer to add blush or some color for a complete look, but for this post I just applied the palette.

Colors include a sparkling champagne gold, a shimmery golden warm peach, a soft cool-toned light tan, and a deeper neutral-cool brown. On my medium tan skin the contour powders show up pretty well. Colors are pigmented on me but easy to blend.

Overall performance has been really good. Textures are soft and smooth, colors layer/mix well with other products, lasting power is really long on the skin.

Super Nudes Easy Eye Palette

Super Nudes Easy Eye Palette Review | The Beauty Lookbook

The Super Nudes Easy Eye Palette is a repromoted palette from Holiday 2020. I remember loving the colors but found the texture to be a little odd. The palette in the Super Nudes collection is identical to the original launch formula, pigment, color-wise. Texture is a soft matte but almost like a bouncy matte which has an almost creamy feel but with a powder texture. Performance-wise it’s great. I think the colors are easy to wear. I like that there is a warmer set and a neutral-cool set within one palette for the light, medium and deep tones. It’s a great smokey eye kind of neutral you can wear everyday. If you’re looking for a good staple with luminous mattes this is a great option to give you everything you would need for a complete eye look.

Super Nudes Duo Liner

Charlotte Tilbury Super Nudes Duo Liner review | The Beauty Lookbook

The Super Nudes Duo Liner has a creamy matte nude shade designed to enhance/brighten if you line the waterline with it. The other is a black brown matte which is creamy and long-wearing. I still prefer to line my waterline with a darker color. If you already own her Rock N Kohl in Barbarella Brown or Bedroom Black those are really similar to the deeper shade in the Super Nudes Liner Duo.

Super Nudes Lip Colors

Charlotte Tilbury Super Nudes Lipsticks Cover Star, Catwalking, Super Fabulous, Supermodel, Runway Royalty

You girls know I’m a fanatic about neutral nude lips even though the colors can be hit or miss. I was really surprised to find that all the new shades in this launch ended up working for me since finding wearable “nudes” can be tricky depending on skin and lip tone. There are four Matte Revolution Lipsticks and one K.I.S.S.I.N.G. Lipstick formula:

  • Cover Star is a pale apricot with neutral-cool tones
  • Catwalking a medium peach brown
  • Super Fabulous is a rosewood brown (has a brown 90’s vibe to me)
  • Supermodel is a muted rose neutral (darker than Pillow Talk)
  • Runway Royalty is a perfect neutral pink with a very slight hint of peach (this is exclusive to CharlotteTilbury.com)

If I had to pick a favorite it would be Runway Royalty. I also really like Catwalking for a peachy nude. Formula and wear for her lipsticks in this launch are true to her usual standards. Creamy, easy to blend and layer, smooth, buildable pigment/coverage, long wear.

Swatches alongside Pillow Talk and Pillow Talk Medium.

Beauty Favorites Loving Right Now

Top 10 Beauty Favorites for August

September 1, 2021

August Beauty Favorites Patrick TA, Drunk Elephant, YSL Beauty

Another month has flown by and I cannot believe it! I hope your summer has been going well! I haven’t been as active on the blog as I would have liked to be the past few weeks. I’ve made some changes to my setup at home office for photography + video content and learning how to use everything has been a process! I am working on new fall beauty reviews though so stay tuned (lots I’m excited to share!).

In the meantime here are the products that made my Top 10 list for August. I’d love to hear what you loved this past month too!

BASE FAVORITES

Best Base Products Charlotte Tilbury, Drunk Elephant, YSL

I finally tried the Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi Anti-Pollution Bronzing Drops and love this! I love this mixed with a moisturizer or foundation to add a bit of warmth and color with a natural bronze glow. It’s worked well with my go-to Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Foundation, Pat McGrath Skin Fetish Foundation and a number of other formulas too.

Two loves from YSL include the Touche Eclat Radiant Touch Concealer and new NU Bare Look Tint. I’ve found myself reaching for the Touche Eclat in Shade 3 almost daily for brightening and under eye concealing. I ordered the new YSL Nu Bare Look Tint in Shade 9 from Sephora and am in love! It took some guessing to pick a shade as the numbers/shade names are completely different from their other bases (which I found a bit confusing). Shade 9 is a bit yellow in the tube but the finish is sheer so it’s forgiving. I ordered it sight unseen and it’s a good match for me although I might order another shade to try. It has a natural sheer lightweight finish – similar to that of a tinted moisturizer or the Touche Eclat All-in-One Glow Foundation but without the super dewy finish.

Swatches below of the Touche Eclat Shade 3, NU Bare Look Tint 9, Touche Eclat All-In-One Glow B40:

YSL Touche Eclat Concealer 3, NU Bare Look Tint 9, Touche Eclat Foundation B40 swatches

I’ve been loving all things Charlotte Tilbury lately (Super Nudes Collection review coming soon!). I cannot live without the Airbrush Flawless Finish Pressed Powder in Medium (just hit pan again and started using a new fresh compact) and the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter in Shades 3 and 4.5 for the best natural glow product. Reposting swatches below for reference. The standard size is 100% worth the splurge. The mini size is available at Sephora and Charlotte Tilbury in select shades.

EYE MAKEUP FAVORITES

For the eyes I’ve been reaching for 3 palettes (more on this soon) but the one that gets the most compliments and questions for “what are you wearing” has been the Patrick TA Major Dimension Eyeshadow Palette. It has 2 brown creams you can use as a contouring base and then a mix of mattes, shimmer and sparkles – all in neutral shades. The mattes blend well and I think the color mix is perfect! For the shimmers there is one iridescent shimmer and the rest are sparkle toppers.

Another love is the Patrick TA Major Dimension Precision Gel Eyeliner in Deep Bronze. This is a twist up pencil that has smooth rich pigment. It’s long wearing on me and I am always on the hunt for good deep bronze colors for the eyes. It’s a nice alternative to black or brown and the shimmer adds a more interesting vibe while still looking natural.

LIP FAVORITES

Chanel Lip Liner in Brun Nude, Summer Fridays Lip Balm Vanilla Beige, YSL Rouge Volupte Shine 123

It was a tough one but I managed to narrow down my August favorite lips to just three products. I’ve been really loving the Chanel Le Crayon Levres Longwear Lip Pencil in Nude Brun 162 for a good neutral brown beige that goes well with a wide range of neutrals I love (more swatches of all the other lip pencils from Chanel here).

For lip balms the new Summer Fridays Lip Butters in the new packaging have been in heavy rotation. I love both the Clear version and Vanilla Beige.

My go-to everyday beige nude lip has been the YSL Rouge Volupte Shine 123 Nude Transparent. It’s effortless! I can just swipe and go and it works for every occasion. (Review + swatches of the newer shades from spring here.)

August Beauty Favorites Patrick TA, Drunk Elephant, YSL Beauty

I had a lot of other favorites in skincare and hair care loves but I am saving those for separate posts. I’m in the process of putting together an updated skincare routine and hair care favorites round up.

What were your favorites this month? I’d love to hear about what you have been loving this summer!

Pat McGrath Huetopian Dream Collection

August 26, 2021

Pat McGrath Mothership IX Huetopian Dream Palette

Pat McGrath launched her new Huetopian Dream Collection and the new palette is absolutely stunning. All the items are available now online at Pat McGrath Labs and Sephora.

Mothership IX Eyeshadow Palette Huetopian Dream

Pat McGrath Mothership IX Huetopian Dream Palette

Mothership IX Eyeshadow Palette Huetopian Dream ($125) is probably my favorite palette launch to date from Pat McGrath and if you don’t mind wearing glitter sparkle toppers I think you’ll love it too. It has a mix of smooth shimmers, mattes, duo chrome shimmers, intense shimmers and sparkle glitter toppers.

Pat McGrath Mothership IX Huetopian Dream Palette Review

Pat McGrath Mothership IX Huetopian Dream Palette

The shimmers and mattes apply smoothly on the skin while the sparkle toppers are more chunky with the glitter flecks. Colors include:

  • Skinshow Nude Xtasy – cool toned champagne shimmer
  • Secret Eden – soft plum pink matte
  • Bronze Desire – sparkling bronze
  • Bronze Solaris 005 – glittery golden yellow
  • Astral Venusian Orchid – white gold glitter
  • Xtreme Plum Noir – deep matte plum brown
  • Cosmic Bloom – complex rose pink sparkle shimmer
  • Shockwave – matte coral pink
  • Blitz Sextreme – duochrome bronze purple silver shimmer
  • Astral Amethyst Moon – sparkly lilac purple

Pat McGrath Mothership IX Huetopian Dream Palette swatches

IntensifEYES Artistry Wand

Pat McGrath IntensifEYES Artistry Wand

Another new launch is the IntensifEYES Artistry Wand ($32) also available in a Duo Set ($52). This is a multi-purpose product which is quite interesting and I don’t think I’ve seen anything like it. You can apply it to the lids to prime for eyeshadow (in particular the glitters or sparkles to make them adhere better). Or you can also apply on top of shadow and it transforms it into an almost liquid formula. I think it’s quite unique but for me not essential as it’s an extra step I don’t think is necessary.

FetishEYES Mascara

Pat McGrath FetishEYES Mascara

For the eyes the FetishEYES Mascara ($30) has been a repromoted which I think is a good basic everyday mascara, but I actually prefer the Dark Star Mascara formula for better volume and length.

I did a look on my Instagram Reels wearing the palette, also wearing:

  • Pat McGrath Skin Fetish Sublime Perfection Foundation in LM14 (review here)
  • Pat McGrath Skin Fetish Sublime Perfection Concealer in LM 13 (review + swatches here)
  • Pat McGrath Huetopian Dream Eyeshadow Palette
  • Victoria Beckham Eyeliner in Cocoa
  • Pat McGrath Skin Fetish Divine Blush in Divine Rose
  • Pat McGrath Lip Fetish Divinyl in Divine Rose 2 (review here)
  • Pat McGrath LUST Gloss in Aphrodisiac (swatches here)

I think the colors in the palette are gorgeous. The texture, pigment and lasting power are all excellent. There is some fall out with the glitters when I apply but once product is on the lids (I pat on with fingers) they pretty much stay put. As much as I love it though I wonder how many of you are glitter/sparkle wearers. I think she does such a great job on her palettes for that extra glam vibe – I wonder if she will ever launch an all matte palette or one without glitters.

I have heard that some think this one is similar to other palettes. Based on what I have Huetopian Dream seems different enough to me to justify owning, although I do not have the Mothership VIII Divine Rose II which looks like it could be similar in some of the tones. In case you want to see swatches of other palettes/quads I’ve reviewed, I’ve linked them below:

You can find the Pat McGrath Labs Huetopian Dream collection out now at Pat McGrath and Sephora.

Valentino Beauty Haul From Nordstrom

August 23, 2021

Valentino Beauty Launch from Nordstrom

I have a look at the new Valentino Beauty launch from Nordstrom today! I hauled a little bit of everything from eyes, lips, cheeks and foundation to try out and found some new favorites. If you haven’t checked out the launch yet I hope you find this roundup helpful!

Valentino Beauty Launch from Nordstrom

FACE MAKEUP

Very Valentino 24-Hour Wear Liquid Foundation MN4 and V-Lighter Face Primer Highlighter Ambra

I’m very impressed with their base products so far. The Very Valentino 24-Hour Wear Liquid Foundation ($64) is a fluid foundation with impressive lasting power and buildable coverage. I love that even with the long wear formula it still feels natural enough to allow the skin to breathe. I picked the shade MN4 to try with the neutral undertone and it’s a perfect match.

It has medium buildable coverage with a demi-matte finish. I always set with powder and tried it with my favorite Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless in Medium which worked perfectly together. I wasn’t able to test it for a full 24 hours but it did last from morning until late evening with minimal touch ups required (just around the T zone and nose with a bit of powder).

Very Valentino 24-Hour Wear Liquid Foundation MN4

I also tried one of the V-Lighter Face Primer Highlighters ($58) in Ambra which is the peachy option. For me it works really well as a primer or mixed in with foundation. Ambra is a pearlescent peachy shade and it adds just the perfect amount of glow to the skin. It looks quite pigmented but blends out easily to a sheerer finish.

Valentino V-Lighter Face Primer Highlighters Ambra

For the eyes and cheeks they have a multi-purpose cream to powder product called the Eye2Cheek Blush and Eyeshadow ($58 each). These have a creamy texture with a powdery dry down. Pigment is medium and buildable. The cheek colors do require some blending on the skin but the color adheres well and stays put for an extended period of time!

I tried:

04 Sweet Rebel is a cool toned pink rose with a hint of pearl
06 Call Me Coral is a coral with a hint of shimmer
08 Roman Sky is a soft glowy light peach
12 Bright Dream is a beautiful gold shimmer (I love this as an eyeshadow)

EYE MAKEUP

Valentino Color Flip Eyeshadow Palette review

For the eyes I hauled three things. So far there is one eyeshadow palette called the Color Flip Eyeshadow Palette ($98). It has eight shades to mix and match the colors for a few different looks. I tried this palette two ways, one look with just the top shades, and another with just the bottom. The textures are mixed from soft mattes, smooth shimmers, stronger shimmers and a couple more sparkly colors. Application was flawless with all of the colors and they blend really well on top of each other!

Below with the top shades in the eyeshadow palette, also wearing 1ooR lipstick, Magnificent Mascara and Sweet Rebel Eye2Cheek Blush

Side by side of the top colors vs bottom bottom colors:

Two other things I tried include the Magnificent Mascara ($32) which I am really impressed with for a good volumizing, thickening mascara that holds the curl and does not smudge on me. I also tried their Twin Liner Gel & Liquid Eyeliner in Black ($40) which is convenient if you want a pencil and liquid liner in one. Application is smooth, lasting power great, pigment is rich.

Valentino Magnificent Mascara and Twin Liner Gel & Liquid Eyeliner in Black

LIPS

Valentino Rosso Valentino Lipstick 107A and 100R

Last I have a look at two lip products. They have full size lipsticks which are refillable and also some select colors in a mini format. I bought the Rosso Valentino Lipstick in 107A Matte which is a matte dark rose brown ($55 for the lipstick, $30 for the refills). I also tried the Rosso Valentino Lipstick Mini in 100R Satin ($30) which is a neutral cool rose pink. It pulls more neutral cool toned on my warm skin, if you have neutral or cooler tones I suspect it will look more neutral or warm on your lips/complexion. I really love the texture of the 100R which is a satin finish – smooth pigment with a slightly glossy sheen.

Overall I’ve had a really good experience with the new items from the Valentino Beauty launch! My top 3 favorites I would recommend include the Foundation, V-Lighter Highlighter and Mascara.
