Makeup By Mario MoistureGlow Plumping Lip Colors

There are tons of new beauty launches this month and I’m excited to play with all the newness starting with some new lip glosses. There are new MoistureGlow Plumping Lip Colors ($24 each) from Makeup By Mario and I ordered a handful of shades to try.

These are described as a plumping weightless liquid lip gloss with full coverage. They come with a sponge tip applicator and I love that the package color matches the actual lip gloss shade. I did some quick swatches in this video I’ll link below so you can see them in action. After playing with all the shades I have mixed thoughts.

Pros: The colors are phenomenal. I think they developed some beautiful wearable shades in a good range of tones from light and neutral to bold and bright. The pigment is really impressive for a water-infused type gloss. They are one-swipe wonders with great color payoff.

Formula has minimal plumping on my lips with a very slight cooling almost minty sensation (without the minty scent). If you can’t wear glosses with any tingle I think these will still be gentle enough to wear.

Cons: This product does not last on the lips. They seem to fade and disappear very quickly even if I don’t touch my lips to anything. After about 15 minutes the product starts fading – almost like it’s evaporated from my lips.

When applied over a lip pencil the lasting power is drastically improved – it’s actually very good when I mix the lip plumper with a lip brush over the lip pencil. It kind of blends the formulas together to adhere better to the lips.

So with a lip liner I can get a few hours of wear without it fading. Since I love all the colors I don’t mind doing this extra step, but part of me thinks they could have made this better. A lip gloss should be great as is without any extra help. Looking at the reviews so far it seems that a lot of other beauty lovers are disappointed with the lack of lasting power.

In terms of finding a similar look for less, I think the NYX Butter Gloss has a similar feel with slightly better lasting power (this gloss also needs the help of a lip liner for me).

Colors I picked out:

  • Soft Nude – neutral light beige
  • Barely Pink – neutral pink
  • Smokey Pink – cool toned grey-mauve pink
  • Cool Pink – cool pink
  • Soft Blush – pale pink rose
  • Baby Coral – apricot
  • Miss Rose – plum rose pink
  • Hot Pink – sheerish bright pink

I think all the colors are beautiful. My top three are Hot Pink, Cool Pink and Baby Coral. Based on the feedback from some of you on my video Smokey Pink seems to be the most loved although I think it looks like death on me.

Overall I really like the shades of the Makeup By Mario MoistureGlow Plumping Lip Colors. I don’t love the formula because is finicky by itself but I can make it work with a pencil. I’m also taking points off for them calling this “plumping” when it really doesn’t have much of any plumping effect (at least on me).

All that said I still like these and will wear them. The colors are really flattering and so far I can’t think of any dupes for these shades. They have just the right mix and undertone to be really flattering. Pigment is great, finish looks amazing, these are SO close to being A+ material. I just think the formula could have been a lot better with the lasting power.

You can find these out now at Sephora. Did you try these? What did you think?

P.S. If you’ve been waiting for the Chanel Les Delices collection it just launched online at Chanel.com. I’m still waiting on one item to arrive before I post my review but wanted to let you know as I think the items will sell out quickly.

Base Makeup Tom Ford Beauty

Tom Ford Traceless Soft Matte Concealer

March 29, 2023

Tom Ford Traceless Soft Matte Concealer

Tom Ford Beauty launched a new concealer called the Traceless Soft Matte Concealer ($60) and I really like it! The formula is in a twist up stick format with a very soft texture. The word “traceless” in the name is perfect because once you blend this, it really is traceless in a natural looking kind of way. It’s long-wearing on me, didn’t crease, blended beautifully and looks natural.

I picked up the shade 3W1 Golden based on their Foundation + Concealer shade conversion chart. In the Traceless Soft Matte Foundation I wear 6.0 Natural and in the Traceless Foundation Stick I have both 6.0 Natural and 6.5 Sable. After testing this I think the shade choice for concealer is a good one that I will be able to use even throughout summer.

Tom Ford Traceless Soft Matte Concealer 3W1 Golden

The Traceless Soft Matte formula is soft and glides on the skin. It feels weightless once blended. Coverage is on the sheer-medium side. I don’t need a lot of coverage under the eyes so this is perfect for me. If you need a minimum of medium coverage or even full I would say skip this and go for the Shade and Illuminate formula if you want to stick with Tom Ford. Other great medium-full coverage concealers I like also include the Tarte Shape Tape Ultra Creamy, Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin Concealer, Dior Forever or the Urban Decay Quickie Concealer.

Below before and after concealer, applying it on top of the Traceless Soft Matte Foundation. Blending with one of my favorite brushes the Hourglass Vanish Concealer Brush.

Tom Ford Traceless Soft Matte Concealer 3W1 Golden

Tom Ford Traceless Soft Matte Concealer 3W1 Golden

The question everyone has been asking me is “how does this compare to the Cle de Peau Concealer?” The Traceless Soft Matte Concealer is quite a bit softer in texture and more natural in finish. The Cle de Peau Concealer is stiffer and dryer in the feel. It’s one of the best opaque concealers that I use for spot concealing. It seems to be popular for under eyes as well but can be a bit too opaque/thick for that area if you have dry skin or texture.

Cle de Peau Concealer in Buff vs Tom Ford Concealer in 3W1 Golden

I think the Tom Ford option is great for the under eye for me and I will use it up entirely. I’m not sure that it’s one I will repurchase though because of the price and amount of product. Since the texture is soft a lot of product has already been used up with just a few uses and I feel like this is one that will be used up fairly quickly.

That being said it’s been a while since I’ve used my Tom Ford foundations and after using them recently, I have to say I don’t know why I stopped. I think I just fell in love with other formulas like Chanel, Westman Atelier and Charlotte Tilbury that I neglected some of my favorites from Tom Ford.

Here are a few swatch comparisons to the Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Concealer, Cle de Peau Concealer and Tom Ford Traceless Foundation Stick. My concealer and foundation shades are mixed. Based on the Buff shade you can see how much lighter my skin is right now (Buff usually matches my arm exactly).

Concealer Swatches Tom Ford 3W1 Golden

I also wanted to add a swatch of the Shade and Illuminate Highlighting Duo in Peachlight. This is one of several new highlighter duos they added last year. I love Moodlight and still think it’s the best classic highlighter duo. Peachlight is a really pretty mix of a pearly light pink and rose gold peach. The darker shade almost looks bronzey on my skin right now. I like that it has a nice glow without looking too sharp.

Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Highlighting Duo in Peachlight

I shopped my stash and pulled out the Lip Color in Pink Dusk and topped it with the Gloss Luxe in Ravish. Eye colors are the Eyeshadow Quads in Honeymoon and Golden Mink mixed together. Top from Reformation (wearing a Medium).

Overall I’m really happy with the new concealer although I don’t think it’s for everyone. I bought mine from Nordstrom. Also available at Sephora and Saks Fifth Avenue.

Guerlain Terracotta Le Teint Foundation + Luminizers

March 22, 2023

Guerlain Terracotta Le Teint Foundation 3N and 3.5N

It’s been a while since I’ve tried any Guerlain makeup but they just launched a new natural glow foundation called Terracotta Le Teint ($62) and I ordered it the second it popped up online. I picked out Shade 3N and 3.5N to try based on what I’ve tested from the brand before. I also ordered the new Terracotta Luminizers ($59 each) to try. They added a new Kabuki Foundation Brush ($58) to go with the new foundation but since I already own a lot of brushes and sponges passed on the new brush. The foundation is available at Nordstrom, Sephora, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Guerlain.

Terracotta Le Teint

Guerlain Terracotta Le Teint Foundation 3N and 3.5N

The Terracotta Le Teint is a natural finish foundation with medium coverage. It has a glowy look but sets to a budge-proof finish so even though it’s glowy, it doesn’t feel super emollient once it sets. On me I find it long-wearing right now in our mild warm spring temperature. Once the heat and humidity arrives, I don’t know how it will hold up, but right now I’m impressed.

Ingredient listing includes alcohol high up on the list and this foundation also contains fragrance, both which can be hit or miss for my skin. After testing this for a couple weeks now I haven’t experienced any irritation from the fragrance or alcohol. I pulled the ingredients from online:

Aqua (Water), C9-12 Alkane, Alcohol, Undecane, Silica, Propanediol, Polyglyceryl-2 Dipolyhydroxystearate, Glycerin, Tridecane, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Coco-Caprylate/Caprate, Dicaprylyl Ether, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Barium Sulfate, Vinyl Dimethicone/Lauryl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Brassica Campestris (Rapeseed) Seed Oil, Sodium Myristoyl Glutamate, Propylene Carbonate, Parfum (Fragrance), Lecithin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Opuntia Ficus-Indica Flower Extract, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Citrate, Camelina Sativa Seed Oil, Aluminum Hydroxide, Citric Acid, Isostearic Acid, Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate, Mica, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Palmitic Acid, Tocopherol, Magnesium Hydroxide, [+/- CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499 (Iron Oxides), CI 77163 (Bismuth Oxychloride)].

Shade wise I’m in between 3N and 3.5N, but I’m wearing 3N in this post. Below with bare skin:

Bare skin no makeup

With foundation + eyeshadow + lipstick (no powder or concealer worn):

Guerlain Terracotta Le Teint Foundation 3N

In one of my orders I got a couple sample packets of 2N and 4N which I’ve swatched below. There seems to be a huge gap between 3.5N and 4N. There is a 3W and 3.5W which might fill the gap but I don’t have the foundation at any counters near me to try in person.

Quick skintone note: I’m currently lighter than my usual Chanel Les Beiges in the B40 shade and wear a mix of the B30 and dab of B40. I also swatched the Tom Ford Foundation Sticks in 6 Natural and 6.5 Sable.

Guerlain foundation swatches

I like this Guerlain Le Teint formula a lot better than the Guerlain L’Essentiel which I found thick and heavy on the skin. I wouldn’t call the new formula completely weightless as I can definitely feel it on my skin, but it is lightweight and feels nice.

Compared to other glowy foundations I still prefer Chanel (especially the Les Beiges Water Fresh Complexion Tint) but this one from Guerlain is very good.

Terracotta Luminizer

Guerlain Terracotta Luminizers Cool Ivory and Warm Gold

Guerlain also launched two new highlighters called the Terracotta Luminizer ($59 each). There is a light pink shimmer called Cool Ivory and a warm golden shimmer called Warm Gold. The formula and finish is exquisite for a really beautiful glow. Out of the two I like Cool Ivory the best for a natural pretty highlight. Warm Gold pulls very yellow on my skin and I prefer other golds or peach tones like the Charlotte Tilbury Gilded Glow or Bobbi Brown Peach.

Overall I really love the new foundation. I think the highlighters have a really beautiful formula and even though I have a million highlighters, I really love the finish and look of Cool Ivory.

Will you be checking out any of these?

10 Things I’m Loving Right Now

10 Things I'm Loving Right Now

Happy Thursday! Rounding up some things I’ve been loving so much I wanted to put them on your beauty radar.

Dior Solar Oil

I’ve been obsessed with finding new body care items and have two new favorites. Dior Beauty just launched new items in their Solar Collection. In the US we have three items and I ordered the Solar Sublimating Oil ($70) which is a stunning glittery shimmery body oil. It smells like a sweet tiare flower – similar to the NARS Body Glow Oil but not as strong or sweet. The Dior Solar Oil is like a vacation bottled up in the most beautiful oil with four different pearl particles of bronze, copper, gold and white. Shimmer is subtle on my skin as the sparkles seem to match my skin tone. It absorbs nicely into the skin and leaves it feeling very smooth.

The glitter sparkles settle to the bottom half of the bottle. You will need to shake it up to mix up the glitters.

On me it’s somewhere in between a super emollient oil and one that has a dry down. It’s not super oily as it sets but it is still emollient if that makes sense. I just ordered the After-Sun Balm ($52).

Dior Solar Sublimating Oil

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Body Cream

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Body Cream

Charlotte Tilbury launched her new Magic Body Cream ($65) and as a huge fan of her Magic Cream for the face I ordered it immediately. I shared a sneak peek on stories and I absolutely love it. It’s a really nice smoothing body cream with a silky smooth dry-down. I wouldn’t say that it has a fragrance but it has a similar scent/vibe to the Magic Cream. Also available in a smaller Travel Size* ($30) which is incredibly expensive for the size but I will be keeping with me in my purse at all times.

Phlur Newness

Phlur Solar Power Perfume

Phlur added a new scent called Solar Power* ($96) and it’s another winner. As a citrus perfume lover this is HUGE hit for me. I think the Phlur scents just keep getting better and better. This might just be my favorite in the line and one I will definitely be wearing non-stop. Solar Power is a warm floral citrus. It has a mix of neroli, jasmine, orange flower, musk, driftwood, sea salt. All of my favorite notes. Available at Phlur and Sephora.

Hair Oil Love

For the hair I received a few samples from the Virtue Haircare line and have been really impressed. I’m adding a bunch of items to my online shopping cart for the upcoming Sephora sale. I tried the Virtue Healing Hair Oil* ($26 to $44) and am obsessed. This is one of the best hair oils I’ve tried It comes with a small stopper at the top to control how much you dispense. It’s hydrating, not heavy, has really helped with my split ends. Give the hair a healthy shine and doesn’t weigh it down. You can also buy both the Full + Travel Size in the Hair Oil Duo for $49.

Glowy Sunscreen

So many of you ask for sunscreen recommendations and I’m due for an updated roundup. I have am really sensitive to sunscreens and it doesn’t seem to matter whether it’s chemical or mineral but I have loved pretty much everything from Supergoop! especially their Glowscreen which now comes in four colors. The team sent over a restock of their original shade Sunrise* (champagne) and Golden Hour* (bronze). I just started using Golden Hour and it gives me the perfect sunkissed glow. I love it for a bit of a bronzed glow for beach days. Also still love the Glow Screen Body.

Lip Favorites

Dior Lip Maximizers Shimmer Macadamia and Rose Nude

For the lips I’ve still been loving the Dior Addict Lip Maximizers (reviewed and swatched here). I love pretty much every single color but my two most-worn shades are 14 Shimmer Macadamia and 38 Rose Nude.

Sisley added a new shade of Phyto-Rouge Shine in 13 Sheer Beverly Hills ($63, Neiman Marcus Exclusive). This formula is hands down the best shine lipstick formula I’ve tried. Other shades reviewed and swatched here. Beverly Hills is a beautiful light beige. Love that it’s hydrating, adds shine, has good coverage even though it has “sheer” in the name.

Sisley Phyto Rouge Shine Sheer Beverly Hills

NYX Lip Pencils and Butter Gloss

For some budget beauty finds I’ve been loving quite a few things I’ve hauled from Target and Ulta Beauty. NYX comes highly recommended by many of you. I’ve loved the Lip Pencil in Natural and recently hauled a few more shades in Nude Pink, Peekaboo Neutral and Brunch Me. Love them for a naturally defined lip.

The NYX Butter Glosses have also been pure love. They don’t have the best lasting power on me but I love the colors and don’t mind reapplying. Formula is very comfortable on the lips.

Halo Glow Liquid Filter

Elf Halo Glow Liquid Filter Shade 4 and 3

Last but not least I tried the viral ELF Halo Glow Liquid Filter and it’s really good. I wouldn’t call it a dupe for the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter since the ELF ones aren’t as glowy. I can wear the Elf Halo Glow all over the face as a glowy base with sheer-medium coverage and then set with powder. Or I’ll use it under foundation. I’m in between Shades 3 and 4 so I mix the two. You can see Shade 3 in action here. I think it’s 100% worth checking out.

That wraps up my favorites right now! What have you been loving lately?

Bronzer + Blush Hermes Beauty

Hermes Plein Air H Trio Mineral Powder Bronzer + Iridescent Highlighters

March 14, 2023

Hermes Plein Air H Trio Mineral Powder

Hermes just launched their Plein Air H Trio Healthy Glow Mineral Bronzing Powders ($105) and Iridescent Powders ($105) in the US and I am so excited to have a review to share today. I fell in love almost immediately with the product description and demo video on the Hermes website. The powders looked perfect for that effortless healthy sunkissed glow and I was eager to put these to the test.

Given that these are extremely expensive I was surprised to find that many of the shades have sold out at a lot of retailers. Depending on which shade you want you may have to do some shopping around but they are available at Hermes, Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus to name a few places.

These powders have 3 shades in one compact in a beautiful embossed H pattern. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised to see the compacts are larger than the other Hermes powders with 18 g of product. They are scented similar to the Rose Hermes blushes (reviewed here) but the scent dissipates after a while and I don’t notice it when it’s on the skin.

Plein Air H Trio Healthy Glow Mineral Powder

Hermes Plein Air H Trio Mineral Powder Bronzer 02 Atlas, 03 Sahara, 04 Sienne

There are 5 shades of the Plein Air H Trio Healthy Glow Mineral Powder and I ordered three shades to try. These have a beautiful silky texture with very good pigment, no excess powdery kick up, no hard-pan and apply beautifully on the skin.

I was really impressed with the level of pigment – they show up really well but at the same time are really easy to blend and sheer out. There is a tiny bit of shimmer in these but it’s more like subtle flecks of shimmer spread out on a matte base so on the skin they really look more matte.

Hermes Plein Air H Trio Mineral Powder Bronzer 02 Atlas, 03 Sahara, 04 Sienne swatches

Looks below wearing:

02 Atlas

02 Atlas is a warm light bronze, this pulls warm on my skin when used as a bronzer, I like this better as a soft contour to warm up the skin instead, wearing this with the Hermesistible Lip Oil in 02 Corail Bigarade (swatched here) on the lips

04 Sienne

Plein Air H Trio Iridescent Mineral Powder

Hermes Plein Air H Trio Iridescent Mineral Powder

There are two variations of the Plein Air H Trio Iridescent Mineral Powder. Both have three different shades of highlighter in one compact. I swatched them individually and swirled and also next to the Plein Air Powder I just reviewed in Mirage.

Hermes Plein Air H Trio Iridescent Mineral Powder swatches

On my medium tan skin these pull very light/pale. Pigment is medium but easy to control so you can get a sheer glow or a more intense highlight. These are very powdery and there was a lot of powdery kick up all over (even in my hair). I would recommend applying with a light hand. Both seem to have sold out everywhere except the Hermes website.

01 Rose Atacama

01 Rose Atacama is a mix of icy white, medium soft nude pink and a cool pink. On my skin this pulls very frosty since it’s contrasted with my skin. Since there is such a sharp contrast I found it highlighted my pores and texture. The Charlotte Tilbury Glow Glide Highlighter in Pillow Talk Glow is better suited for my skin tone as it’s not as white/icy (review here). Wearing it on top of the Bronzer Shade 02 Atlas and Hermesistible Lip Oil in 02 Corail Bigarade.

_________

02 Corail Mojave

I found 02 Corail Mojave more unique and better for my skin tone. This also pulls very shimmery with an icy white champagne, pale gold and orange copper shimmer. When swirled it’s more of a soft champagne gold. I didn’t have time to swatch comparisons but color is somewhere in between Charlotte Tilbury Glow Glide Highlighters in Champagne Glow and Gilded Glow (the CT ones have more pop to them, more swatches here). Bobbi Brown Highlighting Powder in Peach Glow is more sparkly. Dior Nude Glow is more complex and slightly warmer.

Below wearing it on top of 03 Sahara Bronzer.

Hermes Plein Air H Trio Iridescent Mineral Powder 02 Corail Mojave

Overall I think the bronzers are the stand out for me with a silky smooth texture, natural finish and large compact size. I like Sahara the best for my skin tone.

The highlighters are stunning, but not a must for me. Shade 01 is too pale for my skin tone, even with a light hand. Shade 02 is beautiful but given the vast number of highlighters I own, I don’t think I could call it a must-have.

If you’ve been looking at these online and don’t have a counter to try, I hope you found this review helpful!

Cle de Peau Beaute Lips

Cle de Peau Cream Rouge Collection

March 8, 2023

Cle de Peau Cream Rouge Collection

Cle de Peau recently revamped some of their lip products with the new Cream Rouge Collection and I’m thrilled to be able to share swatches of every single color today! I ordered a handful of shades when they first launched but it was thanks to Benjamin Puckey (follow him at @benjaminpuckey) who was so kind to send all the colors for me to try and swatch for you.

These are available now at Cle de Peau, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s and all other Cle de Peau retailers.

There are three finishes in the Cream Rouge Collection ($50 each):

The formula is exceptional which is no surprise for Cle de Peau. What I liked about these the most is the hydrating finish. I swatched most of the shades on the lips and usually at the end of a lip swatching session my lips are pretty raw with the wiping and re-application. This time my lips felt even better afterwards. Coverage of the Shine and Matte formulas are full-coverage and smooth. Lasting power is very good although they are not budge-proof or transfer-proof. Sparkles have medium lasting-power and run sheer. The photos and swatches cannot do them justice – only in real life can you see the multi-dimensional shimmer and how the light catches each sparkle.

Cream Rouge Shine

The Cream Rouge Shine formula is my favorite. I love a good glossy lip and these are stunning. I would have liked to see more neutrals in the lineup, but those who love color or a bold lip will be thrilled with every single shade.

  • 201 Calanthe Orchid is a stunning beige pink
  • 202 Plumeria Apricot is a vibrant coral
  • 203 Heliconia is a bright warm fuchsia
  • 204 Maraca Ginger is a ginger red
  • 205 Cuphea is a medium-deep red
  • 206 Calliandra is a cool toned orchid pink
  • 207 Musa Ornata is a bold deep pink
  • 103 Legend of Rouge is their classic red

Cream Rouge Sparkle

The Cream Rouge Sparkles are stunning. They are sheer with a jelly like base but the sparkle is just beautiful I ordered one of each of these and like 303 and 304 the best. There is no gritty texture once applied, they feel smooth and I love how they feel.

  • 301 Sweet Nectar
  • 302 Mokara
  • 303 Medinilla Magnifica
  • 304 Ohia Lehua

Cream Rouge Matte

Last we have a look at the Cream Rouge Matte which is a lightweight airy almost whipped matte. These also offer full coverage and apply smoothly with a flawless finish. There is one neutral which I love Chocolate Cosmos. All the other shades are very bright and bold. They feel very comfortable on the lips.

  • 111 Chocolate Cosmos is a muted dusty beige
  • 112 Ixora Peach Delight is an electric coral peach
  • 113 Hibiscus Rosa is a warm red
  • 114 Flame Lily is a berry red
  • 115 Cordyline is a dusty mauve
  • 116 Lantana Camara is an electric bright coral
  • 117 Flamingo Flower is a bold warm red
  • 118 Pink Perfection is a bright pink
  • 119 Vriesia is a cool bright pink
  • 120 Currant is a purple plum
  • 121 Strawberry Rhubarb is a deep red
  • 103 Legend of Rouge is a classic red

Cle de Peau Cream Rouge Matte Swatches

Four of the shades swatched on the lips:

Cle de Peau Cream Rouge Matte Swatches

Overall this is a beautiful launch with exceptional formulas and colors. My favorites are all of the sparkles, Calanthe Orchid, Calliandra, Cordyline and Chocolate Cosmos. At $50 each these are extremely pricey but the formula is top notch after several days of wear my lips do feel more hydrated and smooth.
