What I Hauled from the Sephora Sale

April 24, 2023

Sephora Sale Haul | The Beauty Lookbook

It’s the last day of the Sephora spring sale and here’s a quick look at what I hauled plus some first impressions of what I tried. I went a little overboard with the event – there are so many things I’ve had on my list to try so I picked up quite a few things. I have not had a chance to try everything yet but for those of you who wanted the full rundown here are all the details.

New Things I Hauled

Sephora Sale Haul Haus Labs

Haus Labs has been on my list to try and I think it’s a beautifully designed line with well thought out products. Packaging is sleek and unique. Unfortunately I can’t call this a must-have line to try, the products seem to be very good in quality and ingredients, but the formulas just don’t all hit home.

Haus Labs Le Monster Lip Crayon Rose Matte + Peach Matte are pretty twist up matte lip pencils. The colors I picked are a little too cool in undertone for my skin tone so they make me washed out. I think the formula is great and shade range is pretty good. I just ended up with colors that didn’t work so well for me.

Haus Labs Triclone Skin Tech Medium Coverage Foundation is something I am still trying to make work for me. I picked shade 230 Light Medium Cool (matched in store). Pros: I like the finish and coverage. Cons: The formula settles into my fine lines and also separates in any creases I have (like around the nose or wrinkles I have on my face). I have been able to get it to work when I add a serum + moisturizer + primer, but it’s a little high maintenance and there is a lot of transfer anytime I touch my face to anything.

Haus Labs Powder Sculpt Bronzer Shade 5 and Shade 6. Now these are a thumbs up for me! Formula is not groundbreaking or super unique, but what I love about them is they are satin in finish: not too matte, not too shimmery, just somewhere in between. I have a slight preference for Shade 6 right now but both look pretty good on my skintone right now.

Haus Labs Color Fuse Blush Pomelo Peach + Dragon Fruit Glaze swatch so beautifully on the hand but perhaps I’m just not the right shade skintone-wise for these. On my face they look muddy and unflattering. What I see in the pan definitely does not translate to what goes on my face.

New Base Products

Sephora Sale Haul Foundations

Merit The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Stick in Sand and Camel are nice for the minimalist. To me they’re more like a concealer stick you can use to on spots you need coverage. Solid performers but if you already own a concealer or foundation stick you love, I don’t think these are must-haves.

Kosas Dream Beam Mineral Sunscreen SPF 40 – have not tried yet, a little scared to since I react to a lot of sunscreens but will keep you posted!

Saie Slip Tint Dewy Tinted Moisturizer in Shade 4 and 4.5, these have already been in my favorites roundup but wanted to highlight them again. Thumbs up for this formula!

Summer Fridays Sheer Skin Tint in Shade 4 and 5 – love these for a really lightweight fluid formula that isn’t too dewy or sheer. Has nice natural coverage and a pretty glow. I’m in between shades so I’m mixing them.

Givenchy Prisme Libre Skin-Caring Concealer in N250 – another one I’ve already put in a favorites roundup, but had to share again. If you’re looking for a new concealer to try that is creamy, easy to blend and has great coverage – this is the one to check out! You can see it IN ACTION HERE.

Bronzers + Contour

Sephora Sale Haul Tower 28, Makeup By Mario and Freck

Makeup by Mario SoftSculpt Tranforming Skin Perfector – still testing but it has so many rave reviews from people I follow and trust, I have high hopes.

Tower 28 Sculptino in Broad and Tower 28 Bronzino in Sun Coast – have not tried but I picked up a couple lighter shades in formulas I already own and love to try.

Freck Face Hack Precision Sculpting Cream Bronzer in Medium Tan – I partnered with Freck to share a tutorial on how to use these. They’re mini but mighty! Formula is one of the best cream bronzers I’ve tried.

Diptyque

Diptyque City Candles

April 23, 2023

Diptyque City Candles Seoul and Tokyo

The Diptyque City Candles are back again for a limited time and I’m excited to share they’ve added Seoul to the mix for us this year! Each city candle is typically only available in the city they are named after but a few times a year you can purchase any city online at Diptyque or in their boutiques. Each city candle retails for $84 each and they’re available now through 4/26.

I’ve tried every city now and while I think each one is special in their own unique way. I’ve ranked my top 5. First a quick look at Seoul and Pekin, both of which I haven’t reviewed before.

Seoul City Candle

Diptyque City Candles Seoul

Notes include: hibiscus, jasmine, incense

The Seoul City Candle is a pretty floral. It almost has a cherry blossom vibe to me in the sense that it’s fresh and floral, but with hibiscus and jasmine instead. Seoul has a mix of some musk and woody notes. I think it smells better when burned than straight from the jar, but it’s definitely love for me.

Pekin City Candle

Diptyque Pekin City Candle
Notes include: Sandalwood, Magnolia, Green Tea

The Pekin City Candle is a woody candle with a mix of sandalwood and green tea. It also has a slight floral vibe with magnolia. It has a relaxing spa like feel to it. I love the bright orange and gold design.

Now onto my top 5!

Beverly Hills City Candle

Diptyque City Candle Beverly Hills

Notes include: Freesia, Mint, Lemon

The Beverly Hills City Candle was my first one, I think this was the first city candle made exclusive to the stores in LA. It’s easily my favorite with the fresh green almost tropical vibe to it. I’ve purchased this the most out of all the city candles, I think it’s unique and uplifting.

Miami City Candle

Diptyque City Candle Miami

Notes include: Magnolia, Lemon, Jasmine

The Miami City Candle comes close second to Beverly Hills. They both have a very similar feel to them with the lemon notes. This one pulls a little more green to me and has a fresh feel to it as well.

Paris City Candle

Diptyque Paris City Candle

Notes include: Bergamot, Lavender, Patchouli

Another favorite and very unique is the Paris City Candle. I feel like this one is the most special out of all the cities. When this was launched it was the second city candle available and only available in Paris. This is one a personal shopper purchased and shipped to me from France. I bought it without being able to smell it in person first and it was 100% pure love. I love anything with bergamot in it and while it also has lavender and patchouli, it still manages to feel light citrusy and floral all at the same time.

Toyko City Candle

Diptyque Tokyo City Candle

Notes include: Cypress, Incense, Ginger

The Toyko City Candle is also beautiful. It’s described as having woody notes, but for some reason when burned it has a more floral vibe to it with some slight woody notes. It smells very clean to me. I think it’s stunning.

New York City Candle

Diptyque New York City Candle

Notes include: Vetiver, Patchouli, Incense

Last in my top 5 is the New York City Candle which has a sophisticated vibe. I love the vetiver mix in it. It’s woody but not too woody.

There are other cities candles available including Shanghai, Hong Kong, London and Berlin. I think they’re beautiful options as well but I gravitate more towards the others I reviewed at the top.

Beauty Favorites Skincare

Best in Skincare at Sephora

April 17, 2023

Best Skincare to Shop at Sephora: La Mer, Kate Somerville, Drunk Elephant

Rounding up my favorites in skincare at Sephora for their Spring Savings Event Sale! My skin has improved so much over the past few weeks and I think it’s due to the shift in weather. Warmer temperatures are better for my skin and I’ve noticed that it’s more balanced and less dry these days. I’ve put together a list of my Top 5 in each category right now. For the Sephora Sale use code SAVENOW. Savings and access dates will depend on your Beauty Insider Tier:

  • 4/14-4/24: Rouge Early Access: 20% off
  • 4/18-4/24: VIB Preferred Access: 15% off
  • 4/18-4/24: All Tiers: 10% off
  • 30% off Sephora Collection for everyone

BEST CLEANSERS

Best Cleanser Kiehl's La Mer Dior Dermalogica

The cleanser category is one that I love exploring the most. I think the key to my best skin is to properly cleanse it. A lot of skincare and makeup with silicones are often hard to remove so double cleansing is a must to ensure you remove every last trace. These are cleansers I love:

If you have dry skin the best cleanser for Dry/Sensitive Skin is a cream one like the Kate Somerville DeliKate Soothing Cleanser or Goat Milk Cleanser.

Best Makeup Removers / Oils / Balms

Clinique Take the Day Off Cleansing Balm with Charcoal

I love to double cleanse and my favorite removers at Sephora include:

TONERS

Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cleanser and Toner

There are two toners I use available at Sephora.

SERUMS & MASKS

Drunk Elephant Skincare Favorites Protini Polypeptide Cream and Serum

I typically stick with just one moisturizer on my face for day except on dry skin days. I’ll add a serum as more of a treatment to target skin issues like when it’s feeling extra irritated, extra dry or needs some soothing.

MOISTURIZERS

La Mer The Moisturizing Soft Cream, The Concentrate and The Eye Concentrate

So many great moisturizers these days. I rotate formulas depending on season. Here are my favorites and why:

EYE CREAM

Biossance Beauty Favorites

I started using Eye Creams more in the last two years and here are my three favorites:

BEST SUNSCREENS

Shiseido Sunscreen Favorites

I’m incredibly picky when it comes to sunscreen I’ll use on a regular basis. As a beauty blogger I try a lot of formulas but so many irritate my skin. Two brands I swear by are Shiseido and Supergoop!. There are so many new formulas I have not tried them all – but here are a few favorites right now. Bottom line is I don’t think you can go wrong with anything from these two brands.

LIP BALMS

The best lip balms I’ve tried from Sephora:

That wraps up my Skincare Favorites! I know I covered a lot but I wanted to be thorough! Let me know if you have any questions! I’m hosting another giveaway! One reader (US or Canada only) will be selected to win a Surprise Box of beauty goodies. I have so many extras I want to pass them along to another beauty lover. Sephora Spring Savings Event Lip Try On Haul Merit, Tower28, Rare Beauty, Pat McGrath Labs

Sephora has so many great brands and new spring launches. I did a major spring lip haul and put 10 different formulas to the test. I tried a little bit of everything from lip liners, lip oils, balms, liquid lips and lipsticks. If you’ve been curious about any of the newer launches here is the rundown.

Merit Shade Slick Gelee Sheer Tinted Lip Oils

Merit Shade Slick Gelee Sheer Tinted Lip Oils

Merit Shade Slick Gelee Sheer Tinted Lip Oils ($24) are brand new and these are beautiful. They’re sheer glossy lip oils that give the lips a nice fresh wash of color. Color payoff is like almost like a water color stain – natural but still noticeable. They’re super lightweight and the pigment stains the lips a little.

Below wearing and Mapleton (sheer brown berry). Also wearing:

Merit Shade Slick Gelee Sheer Tinted Lip Oil Jete

Tower 28 Lips

Tower 28 OneLiner Lip Liners and Tower 28 JuiceBalm Vegan Tinted Lip Balms

Tower 28 JuiceBalm Vegan Tinted Lip Balms ($16) are another great find. I think the shades are fun for spring to summer. These come in a twist up chubby stick form and have a natural finish, ultra hydrating feel and fun colors. I bought two in Mix (nautral nude) and Shake (juicy pink) – great swipe and go kind of lip colors.

Tower 28 JuiceBalm Vegan Tinted Lip Balm in MIX

The Tower 28 OneLiner Lip Liners ($15) have been sold out for a long time but just restocked. I think Fill Me In and Work of Art are some of the best neutral lips but better kind of shades and they have a smooth full coverage finish.

Sephora Collection

Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick ($15) in 70 First Date

Sephora Collection products are highly under-rated. Next time you’re in store definitely check out the selection of brushes, lip products and more. I recently picked up the Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick ($15) in 70 First Date and it’s the perfect creamy peachy pink. Formula is really good – opaque, smooth, doesn’t look dry and long-wearing. They’re super comfortable and I like that they also don’t dry out the lips.

The Sephora Collection Lip Liner To Go ($6) is also top notch. I had my eye on a handful of colors because they have a great range of neutrals and brown tones. I picked up 17 Light Brown and 15 Deep Beige – both of which are really great neutrals.

Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick ($15) in 70 First Date

Too Faced

Too Faced makes the most dramatic lip plumping products and they just launched the Lip Injection Extreme Lip Shaper Plumping Lip Liner ($24). These made my lips extremely full and plump immediately. The tingle factor is probably an 9 out of 10 for me which was a little too strong. The shades are really great neutrals and if your lips can handle the tingle these really do plump the lips.

Dior Beauty

Dior Beauty makes some of the most beautiful luxury lipsticks and I hauled a few new shades of the Dior Addict Refillable Shine Lipstick ($45) and a couple of the fun Lipstick Cases ($30). 412 Dior Vibe is a nude beige and 521 Diorelita is the perfect pink mauve shade. Both have a hydrating feel, pretty shine and beautiful color payoff.

Dior Addict Refillable Shine Lipstick

Pat McGrath Labs

If you’re looking for great wearable neutrals Pat McGrath SatinAllure Lipsticks ($30) are 100% worth the splurge. I think every single shade is beautiful – I swatched Venusian Peach, Negligee, Nude Romantique 2 and Nude Venus. The SatinAllure is a classic lipstick formula with a satin finish and full coverage.

Pat McGrath SatinAllure Lipsticks

Pat McGrath SatinAllure Lipsticks

NARS

The newest launch from NARS is the Afterglow Sensual Shine Hydrating Lipstick ($32) and these are incredible. If you like shine lipsticks definitely check these out. I picked out two shades to try the formula and will be picking up more. Breathless is a perfect beige nude and Orgasm is a stunning pink gold. Texture is very smooth – these glide onto the lips in the most comfortable way.

NARS Afterglow Sensual Shine Hydrating Lipstick

NARS Afterglow Sensual Shine Hydrating Lipstick

Rare Beauty

Last but not least the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oils ($20) are incredible. These have a stain in the color that adheres to the lips. I love the bold shades – they’re very wearable and I think will be flattering on a wide range of skin tones. To me they are more like a stain with a hint of gloss/oil but I love them. Definitely check out a few of these during the Sephora Savings Event.

BEST PRIMERS

Best Primers Tatcha and Bobbi Brown

I’m not really a primer kind of person but these are the best ones I’ve tried. I usually prefer a moisturizer that will also double as a good base layer.

BEST FOUNDATIONS

Patrick Ta Major Skin Creme Foundation and Finishing Powder Duo

There are so many great foundation formulas with a wide range of coverage. I’ve split the foundations into sheer, medium and full:

Best Sheer-Medium Finish

Medium Coverage

Full Coverage

BEST CONCEALERS

YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch Concealer

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer Ginger

For concealers, I like one that is creamy, brightens and doesn’t crease. I’ll only use a full coverage concealer to spot treat.

BEST POWDERS & SETTING PRODUCTS

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder

I’m usually a pressed powder kind of person and use the Charlotte Tilbury or NARS the most. Also found a new holy grail powder find in the loose powder category:

FAVORITE TOOLS

Hourglass Makeup Brushes

For brushes I own a wide range of tools from a number of different brands. The brushes I use the most are from Hourglass. I splurged on their Face and Eye Travel Brush Set during the last sale and love it. If you’re only looking to add a few tools I swear by the Vanish Foundation and Vanish Concealer Brushes. The Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face Brush is another favorite. The beautyblender is also one I use all the time, no other sponge compares.

For powder I reach for Chanel and Laura Mercier the most – both of which aren’t available at Sephora, but I really like the Rare Beauty Always an Optimist Powder Brush and the Charlotte Tilbury Retractable Air Brush.

If you’re my skin twin I have a roundup of all the Foundation and Concealer shades I have worn in this FOUNDATION AND CONCEALER REFERENCE Guide.

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oils

April 11, 2023

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oils

Rare Beauty launched new glosses called the Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oils ($20) in eight shades and they’ve taken over my social media feed. I really love how they hyped this up with some really fun looking events and I think the product is truly unique. They’re available now at Sephora and today they just restocked most of the shades.

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oils

The Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oils are a gel to oil formula with a stain. They have a beveled sponge tip applicator and glide on the lips with a weightless balmy feel. Once applied the formula feels almost like it thickens into a gel finish. I think the shades are beautiful for a bold lip lover. On me I think they’re fun and different from what I normally wear, however because these are more like stains to me, the colors darken on my lips.

A lot of stains in general tend to darken or shift in color on me once they set and these definitely look darker on me compared to what I’ve seen on anyone else. Lasting power is really good with these. If you’re into lighter to medium neutrals these might be too dramatic/bold for you in which case I’d recommend checking out her Kind Words Matte Lipstick (review here) which has a lot of great lighter neutrals.

I hauled five shades:

  • Hope is a bright but lighter pink
  • Happy is a bright deeper pink
  • Wonder is a deeper pink rose
  • Serenity is a warm orange rose
  • Honesty is a brown neutral

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oils

Below I’m wearing the Rare Beauty Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer in 32N and the Always an Optimist Soft Radiance Setting Powder in Medium Light. Eyeshadow is the Natasha Denona Mini Nude Palette.

All side by side:

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oils

Since the Sephora Savings Event is right around the corner (starts this Friday for Rouge Members) I thought I’d add some more thoughts about other Rare Beauty items I’ve tried.

The Rare Beauty Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer is one of my favorite tinted moisturizers I’ve tried. Has SPF 20, offers medium natural coverage but isn’t too dewy or emollient. I really like the formula and it blends easily on the skin with a beautyblender sponge.

Rare Beauty Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer in 32N

The Always an Optimist Soft Radiance Setting Powder in Light Medium is a nice lightweight powder. After testing a wider range of formulas I’ll say this isn’t my favorite but it’s very good. I really like her Always An Optimist Powder Brush. It’s well made, fluffy and soft.

Rare Beauty Haul Picks

The Warm Wishes Effortless Bronzer sticks are some of my favorite bronzer/contour in a cream format. They glide on beautifully on the skin and I like that they are neutral-to-warm in undertone making it easier for me to wear. They are very easy to blend. I added a few more contour swatch comparisons to the LYS No Limits Cream Bronzer (another great formula), Westman Atelier Face Contour Stick and the Tower 28 Sculptino Bronzer in Getty.

Rare Beauty Warm Wishes Effortless Bronzer swatches vs Westman Atelier

The Soft Pinch Liquid Blushes are incredibly popular and as far as liquid blushes go these are some of the most pigmented shades I’ve tried. I only need one dot on each cheek to give enough color. Based on how little product you need I feel like these are going to last the rest of my life. I think the colors are really pretty and for a liquid product the lasting power is pretty good.

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blushes

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blushes swatches

The Positive Light Liquid Luminizers are also really beautiful. The shimmer drydown looks intense in the swatches below but they are actually really easy to blend out on the skin for a more natural less sharp look. I like Flaunt the best but the colors in the range are all stunning. I added a few other swatches next to the Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wands and Anastasia Beverly Hills Highlighter Hot Sand which has a softer glow.

Rare Beauty Positive Light Liquid Luminizers

In case you missed it I’ve linked the Kind Words Matte Lipstick and Lip Liner review here too.

Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte Lipsticks

Overall I give the Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oils a solid A+ formula-wise. I think the colors are fun for a more bold vibrant lip look. The Sephora Savings Event starts on Friday and the sale access dates and code to use are as follows, use code SAVENOW to save during these dates:

Fantaisie de Chanel Illuminating Blush in Pastel Fuschia

Fantaisie de Chanel Illuminating Blush in Pastel Fuschia

I think the Fantaisie de Chanel Illuminating Blush in Pastel Fuschia Is the stand out in the collection. On me it pulls more like a highlighter but I think it’s just beautiful. It’s mix of 2 shades using what they call tie-dye technology to swirl a rose pink and pale rose gold for a beautiful fabric-like pattern. The texture is smooth, easy to blend and layer, doesn’t emphasize pores and is just stunning. It’s so pretty I bought a backup.

Top from Rails and nail colors are OPI Rosy Future layered on top of I Meta My Soulmate.

Baume Essentiel in Lilas and Dragee

Chanel Baume Essentiel in Lilas and Dragee

There are two new Baume Essentiel Multi-Glow Sticks in Lilas and Dragee, both have already sold out online at Chanel but you can still find Dragee at Nordstrom. These are sheer and glossy with a very slight tint of color. Lilas is a beautiful pale iridescent lilac and Dragee is an iridescent soft pink pearl with a peachish tint.

Lilas is the more unique shade with a lilac tint. Dragee is similar but more pinkish in tone compared to last year’s Ensoleille (more peach).

I’ve been really loving these on the lips as a pretty glossy balm. On my cheeks they have pretty good lasting power as the texture is on the sticky side, but they are really sheer and give more of a dewy glow versus color.

Les 4 Ombres in Delices

There’s one new eyeshadow quad in the Les 4 Ombres format called Delices. The colors include a lilac satin/shimmer, matte warm clay pink, satiny brownish red and pale sparkling yellow. The colors surprised me! I normally don’t gravitate towards these kinds of shades but with some layering they give a really pretty spring look. I start with the clay pink as a base, layer on the brown on the lids and then tap on the lilac and yellow on top.

Pigment is soft medium but buildable and easy to layer. Lasting power on me is very good but you do need to use some kind of base/primer.

Delices Pastel de Chanel Lips

Chanel Les Delices Rouge Coco Baume and Rouge Allure Ink

There are four lip products in this launch. The two Rouge Coco Baumes are really pretty. Pink Delight is a sheer neutral peach pink with shimmer. This pulls very sheer alone but if I layer on top of a lip liner like their Beige Naturel or Rose Naturel it shows up better on my lips by adhering to the liner. Sweet Treat is a really pretty brownish plum kind of shade.

The two Rouge Allure Inks have incredible color payoff with one swipe. Both look very similar on my skin tone/lips Gourmandise has a more blueish pink undertone and Tentation is more of a true classic bold red. They stay on the lips an exceptionally long time and feel weightless.

Chanel Delices Pastel de Chanel Collection

Overall a beautiful collection that surpassed my expectations. I knew I would love the pink highlighter but I didn’t expect to love everything else as much. If you’re a Chanel lover or looking for a fresh pretty color palette for spring that isn’t red or orange, this is one to check out.

Available now at Chanel.com.

Collection gifted from Chanel for review. Both Rouge Coco Baumes purchased by me.
