What's In My Bag

What’s Inside My Makeup Bag

January 5, 2016
Inside my makeup bag truffle clarity pouch

It’s only the first week of the year and even though I’ve tried to clean out some of my purses and reorganize, I’ve already accumulated way too much in my makeup bag. I just emptied it this morning and counted 12 lip items … wait no, 13 eek! Everytime I go out with my husband, he’s always asking what it is that I’m lugging around and if I really need to carry all this stuff. Of course I don’t, but I still do. Here’s a peek at what’s inside my makeup bag which is the Truffle Clarity Clutch Small in Nude. Some will be reviewed on the blog very soon.

I’ll say now that the Dior Lip Glow in Lilac is way better than the Pink one (which turns fuchsia on my lips sometimes). I ordered all the Too Faced Melted Lipsticks from the chocolate launch because how can one resist anything chocolate? There are hits and misses with the colors – I’ll be editing swatches to upload later this week (my husband said one of the colors looked absolutely hideous on me). I pulled out my Tisse Rivoli eyeshadow quad recently – it is one of my favorite neutrals in quad form but I misplaced it and couldn’t find it for months (I had put the compact in my blush drawer which is why I couldn’t find it with all the other eyeshadow compacts). My goal for the new year is to find some more makeup organization solutions. I’ve been using Muji Acrylic organizers and drawers, but I need something bigger with taller drawers – any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. There are a number of options out there I’ve been researching – I’ve been making notes on dimensions and picing, it’s kinda overwhelming to sort out!

What’s in your makeup bag this week? If you keep your makeup contents to a minimum, how do you edit/organize what you carry?

Elizabeth & James make some of the best scents. I prefer Black over White, but White is still lovely. I definitely reach for White more in the spring. I'm always afraid to empty out my makeup bag, there's always so many lipsticks.

I currently have Nirvana Black in my bag! Those little sprays and rollerballs they do are so much nicer than many other brands plush the scents are great!

    • Sabrina January 7, 2016 at 3:58 am

I wish more brands made sturdy rollerballs like the Elizabeth and James, they are so good!

I too am really unorganised when it comes to my makeup bag because I literally stuff everything in and before I know it I can't find the products that I want to use! I love your re-organisation and the transparent makeup bag <3 I also really want to try out the Dior Lip Glow in Lilac! xx

Have you checked out The Container Store for acrylic cosmetic storage? They have some very useful items, and they are well-priced. I first found them through Into the Gloss. The ones I have are similar in style to the Muji drawers but deeper, which it sounds like you are looking for. I think Sephora has some acrylic storage units similar to the one the Kardashians made famous, but not quite as expensive?

    • Sabrina January 7, 2016 at 3:59 am

Yes I have! I agree good selection and well priced, but I haven't really found anything quite like what I'm looking for. Thanks for the tip though 🙂

Sometimes my handbag is overflowing with makeup and bits and pieces but right now all I have in there is 2 lipsticks (Marc Jacobs Infamous and Guerlain Kiss Kiss in Pink Me Up) a MAC Mineralize Skin Finish powder and bottle of perfume (Aerin Lilac Path). Extremely edited right now!! Cant wait to hear your review on the Too Faced Melted Chocs x

I definitely need better makeup organization this year. I literally lose things all the time which is so frustrating! Love seeing what's in people's bags! Makes me feel better about all the stuff I lug around!

I'm looking forward to your swatches of the new YSL Glossy Stain colors; I came looking on your site because no one else has reviewed them yet. I knew you'd be on it. 😉

  • Dea Andriany January 6, 2016 at 1:36 am

I would bring as much lip product as you do it I'm more dedicated, I'm very practical person so extra weight is sadly not something I appreciate.I usually just chug in whatever Lip product I wear in the morning, powder, all rounder brush, and lip balm.

Hey Sabrina, I store my makeup in Muji drawers but the bulk is in a 3 drawer with marble top from pottery barn it's amazing and holds a lot of makeup. It's under bathroom furniture on their site.

    • Sabrina January 7, 2016 at 4:00 am

Thanks Melissa! That one is gorgeous!

Do you remember where you got your makeup bag from? It's gorgeous! Good to know someone else also keeps an abundance of lip products in their bag x

    • Sabrina January 7, 2016 at 4:00 am

Hi Rachel – I listed and linked it a couple places throughout the article. In case you missed it, it's by Truffle.

  • Allysia January 6, 2016 at 1:51 pm

That is an epic makeup bag! I've been following Temptalia's reviews of the Melted Chocolate line and it definitely seems hit or miss. Still, when they show up in Sephora I'm definitely going to have to pick up one or two! How are the NARS glosses?

  • Tatiana January 6, 2016 at 3:36 pm

I'm curious about the Edward Bess All Over Seduction in Paradise. Will you be reviewing it? I stopped buying backups to LE lipsticks ages ago, they always turn bad before I get to them anyway. Maybe I'm not storing them properly.

    • Sabrina January 7, 2016 at 4:02 am

Yes I will be reviewing Paradise soon 🙂

  • Eileen January 6, 2016 at 5:36 pm

It is always such fun to see "What's Inside My Bag" posts. I think most of us are curious to see what our sisters-in-beauty are lugging around–at least, I am 🙂 And you, dear Sabrina, have such an artistic flare when it comes to pulling various colors together.

Although I usually apply a full face of makeup at the start of my day, I'm very low maintenance when it comes to touch ups and usually just carry the lipstick and/or lipgloss du jour and a lip balm. Probably the only benefit to having dry skin is that my face and eye makeup never fades away. My biggest concern is restoring moisture and protecting my skin throughout the day. Consequently, I carry some Tatcha mini skin care essentials like sunscreen, camellia oil or indigo cream, and Dewey Mist–always Dewey Mist 🙂

    • Sabrina January 7, 2016 at 4:03 am

Thanks Eileen! I love peeking into other beauty lovers' makeup bags. Love your Tatcha essential picks!

  • Cat January 7, 2016 at 12:11 am

    Where's the actual bag from?

    • Sabrina January 7, 2016 at 4:04 am

It's linked above in several places throughout the article – but in case you missed it, it's by One Truffle.

  • Amy January 8, 2016 at 11:52 am

Sabrina – I am going to NYC this weekend for a quick trip. I plan to stop at the beauty counter in Bergdorf Goodman mainly to look at Tom Ford (the department stores near me don't carry some of the more luxury brands). I am only planning to get one or two things (including a lipstick). What do you recommend??

    • Sabrina January 18, 2016 at 7:16 am

Hi Amy – sorry looks like I missed this, hope you had an amazing time in NYC!

  • Alexandra January 8, 2016 at 3:01 pm

I really had to laugh when I read that you first counted 12 and then 13 lip products in your bag. Its basically the same with me when I clear out my bag and purse, somewhere there will be something hidden – usually if there are zippers inside my purse its where to look. I already downsized my makeup bag to a tiny version of its former self so that only three lipsticks fit in, but I always find a way to sneak in at least another lip balm and lipstick option into my purse. Because you never know when you will need a red, pink or nude lip that day 🙂

    • Sabrina January 18, 2016 at 7:16 am

LOL, yes I find hidden things in my zipper pockets too!

  • Stephanee January 9, 2016 at 12:12 pm

I have a small makeup bag that carries just my essentials – Tatcha blot papers, Laneige face mist, lip balm, small mirror, then travel sizes of blush, a tiny Dior blush brush, Mac lipstick, small lip liner, eyebrow tweezers is a must with me, and YSL eyebrow pencil. I never have to touch up anything else throughout the day. I decluttered my beauty room in Dec and moved all my makeup into a furniture unit. It is a French hutch that makes me smile as I open it, it feels as if I am shopping in Sephora, then I close the doors and the room transforms back into a sitting room again. I purchased various sizes of the three drawer holders from Walmart "Sterile" I think is the brand. They are deep enough and pull out all the way but still remain in the holding stand and do not tip over. I have one for each category ..foundation, concealer but then one three drawer for high end/luxe and one for drugstore, that's how I separate my makeup. I will hurry up and use my high end makeup faster because I spent the money ha! I also gave away a lot of my "backup makeup" as holiday gifts and will do the same for 2016. It will just sit there and collect dust as I am always on to the next new and exciting product. I only have backups of my holy grail items that I personally use now.

      This sounds sooo adorable!

Glam boxes are the best. Wait for a sale bc they are expensive but I love ?? mine. Couldn't live without it.

    • Sabrina January 18, 2016 at 7:17 am

I think this is the year I get one of the acrylic organizers! Not sure which line yet, still researching!
