Tom Ford Lavender Lust Eye Color Quad

Tom Ford Lavender Lust Eye Color Quad ($78 each for .35 oz/10g, made in Italy) is a new release in the US. The color theme is pink and lavender in this palette with one glittery powder pink, a soft duo-chrome opal/oyster, a soft lavender frost and a purple with iridescent sparkles. The colors are well pigmented with beautiful textures. Each shade applies very well over a good base (I like Edward Bess Illuminating Eye Base). The top left shade is a sparkle/glitter. The trick to using this one is to apply on top of the other colors by patting for added shine. If you apply this one first, layering other colors will cause the glitter to fall off the eyes and all over the face. I still had a little fall-out when using this as a top layering shade but only from brush debris. As beautiful as this palette is, the colors combined were just too pink and pastel for my skin. Purples and soft pinks can be difficult to pull off for my skintone. It gives me a slight pink-eye look.

This quad probably has quite a few single shades that are very similar from MAC and Urban Decay. The colors look very familiar. In terms of a palette, I don’t have very many purple-pinks but I did pull Dior Pearly Lilac (limited from 2009) and Dolce & Gabbana Petal to compare.

Tom Ford Lavender Lust, Seductive Rose and Orchid Haze Preview

Tom Ford Beauty has released several new Eye Color Quads to the US in Lavender Lust, Seductive Rose and Orchid Haze ($78 each for .35 oz/10g, made in Italy). This is a quick preview with swatches. I’ll be posting detailed reviews on each quad later this afternoon and tomorrow. So far my favorite is Orchid Haze mainly because it doesn’t have any glitter shades. Seductive Rose is a close second. I’m not thrilled with Lavender Lust because it pulls very pastel on my skin. Pastel lavenders/pinks are hard for me to pull off (I purchased it sight unseen).

Hourglass Cosmetics Polly Osmond for Christian Siriano’s Spring 2014 Collection

Fall has just arrived but we’re already seeing spring 2014 collections and looks on the runways. Makeup artist Polly Osmond for Hourglass created the look for Christian Siriano’s spring 2014 collection. The Inspiration: Siriano was inspired by a recent trip to Isla Mujeres on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, and the destination’s exuberant color palette. The look created focused on luminous skin, pale lids and orange coral lips. “It’s beachy, breezy and with a pop of color on the lips,” says Osmond. “I wanted to create a diffusion of texture, color and light. It’s how your skin would look at a tropical sunset. There’s a new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette coming out for spring which I’m dying to get a sneak peek at. GET THE LOOK

SKIN: Prep skin with Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum, infused with botanical oils, and follow with Hourglass Illusion Tinted Moisturizer for a luminous complexion. Conceal any dark circles or imperfections with Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer.

CHEEKS: To create a multi-dimensional glow, apply all three shades from Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette (NEW, coming out soon) to the cheeks using a circular motion. Dab Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum onto the apples of the cheeks for a hint of tropical sheen.

EYES: Apply the Incandescent shade from Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette (NEW, coming out soon) all over the lids. Follow with the shimmering Shell shade from Hourglass Vol. 6 Eye Shadow Palette, applied to the inner corner of eyes. Use the same shade to create a diffused liner along the top and bottom of the lash lines. Finish with a coat of Hourglass Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara.

BROWS: Brush a small amount of Hourglass No. 28 Primer Serum onto brows to create definition and a little shine.

LIPS: Prep lips earlier with Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil for superior hydration. Apply Hourglass Opaque Rouge Liquid Lipstick in Muse, an orange coral shade, to the lips. Create a diffused pout by softening the outline of the lips with a lip brush.

Chanel Vamp 18 Le Vernis – Revisited

Chanel Le Vernis in Vamp #18 ($27 for 13 ml/0.4 oz) is one of my most-worn nail colors and is one of the few polishes I’ve used up completely – twice. Vamp was one of my first colors back in the 90’s when Chanel nail polishes were only in the $15-18ish range. The original was different than today’s version but I never kept the bottle after it was used so I can’t provide a comparison of the then vs. now. Chanel Vamp has still remained a cult classic. It’s been swatched and featured on this blog numerous times as the baseline for classic vamp comparisons. See it compared to YSL Prune Minimale, Chanel Provocation, Vamp Favorites (2012 edition), Dior Galaxie, and Chanel Malice to name a few. I have it on the nails this weekend as I’m going through a vampy/aubergine color obsession again.

The Beauty Look Book featured on Makeup and Beauty Blog

Today I’m featured as a guest on Makeup and Beauty Blog with a mini-interview and a post about a favorite Chanel staple of mine.
Fun fact: Karen was the one who inspired me to start my own blog back in 2009. At that time I was in grad school, just starting to get into social media. Karen’s blog was one of my first regular reads. She had openings for guest writers, I submitted an idea and she featured it! The article was on Le Metier de Beaute. She was so encouraging, friendly, and inspiring. I had so much fun with her that I decided to start my own blog.

Tom Ford Show Me the Pink Nail Lacquer – Fall 2013

Tom Ford Show Me the Pink #25 Nail Lacquer ($32 for .41 fl oz/12 ml) is a warm nude pink cream with subtle silver sparkles. On my skin it pulls a bit peachy similar to Chanel Emprise (from last Spring 2013), but just a tad lighter and more pink. I found the formula with this color a bit difficult to work with. It too a bit of work to be able to apply evenly and smooths out with 3 coats. I had to spend a lot of time cleaning up the edges near the cuticles. Once applied it does look quite lovely – it’s an understated but pigmented pinkish-peach. The shimmers don’t really show up at all on the nails. Lasting power is quite good with this color.

I can’t say this one is a must-have mainly because I found the formula difficult to work with. I was able to get it to work but it wasn’t easy to apply for me. Do note that I found Tom Ford Vapor from summer difficult to work with while many others had no issues, so your mileage may vary. I wasn’t super excited about the color although my husband and a few friends liked it enough to comment.
Tom Ford Show Me the Pink is limited-edition, as of May 2015, now permanent. It retails for $32 and should be arriving at your local Tom Ford Beauty counters now. You can find it online now at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue and Bloomingdales.
