Burberry Beauty Trench Kiss Lip Mist and Lip Glow

Burberry Beauty has some beautiful new nudes and golds for the holiday. There are a couple packaging variations for the Trench Kiss Lip Mist, Trench Kiss Lip Glow and Nude Radiance Face Glow. These are available in regular packaging and a special limited gold packaging. In addition there is a new Gold Light Nail Polish available in the gold packaging.

I ordered the new Trench Kiss No. 216 Lip Mist ($30) and Trench Kiss No. 24 Lip Glow ($27) in the regular packaging from Nordstrom (however it seems only the gold packaging is available now online).

Trench Kiss #216 Lip Mist is a sheer flesh colored beige with a hint of peach. On the lips it applies very pale – almost corpse like upon first swipe. After letting it set for a minute I found it adjusted better to my natural lip color and warmed up a little. It’s still very pale (similar to Nude Honey #211 reviewed here, but the Trench Kiss is just a tad warmer and more beige).

Trench Kiss #24 Lip Glow is a shimmery sheer gold. It looks more golden and sparkly in the tube compared to the Nude Gold #15, but when swatched they look almost identical.

I’m overall pleased with the two items once layered together. However they are really similar to previously released items which I already owned. I ordered sight unseen since I do not have a Burberry Beauty counter near me. I hope the comparison swatches above help. If you’re unsure about how these would be on you, I would suggest trying in person before buying. I do really like the Trench Kiss Lip Glow – it has such a lovely sparkle and sheen even if it is similar to other golds.

Burberry Fresh Glow Luminous Highlighting Powders: Nude Radiance and Golden Radiance

Burberry Beauty released two new powders in their Fresh Glow formula in Nude Radiance 01 and Warm Radiance 02 ($48 each for 10 g/.35 oz, made in Italy). These were part of a small collection for summer which included a new bronze version of their liquid Fresh Glow ($48), two Eye Trios ($47 each) and the two new powders. I’m late to the party with this release – was waiting to test in person but never made it to my nearest counter. I ordered the two Fresh Glow Luminous Highlighting Powders online sight unseen.

The Fresh Glow powders are designed to be alternates to the Fresh Glow liquid. I had tested the liquid version when it was released but the foundation along with the liquid both have some ingredient that caused an allergic reaction all over my face. I was disappointed since both products wear really well on the skin in terms of how they make the skin look. I was excited and hopeful that the powders would really be similar to the liquids.

The product description:  Whisperlight texture gives instant radiance and healthy glow while gently protecting skin from the natural elements Ultra-fine illuminators for natural radiance. Compact alternative to Fresh Glow Fluid, for those who prefer a powder texture. Soothing rosa canina fruit extracts Microscopic rose shaped particles absorb oil and intensify light diffusion.

I found Nude Radiance to be a frosted white with a hint of pearl. It looks chalky on my skintone and is rather unflattering. There is a wide brush that comes with these powders which I found quite good at applying the powders to the face. This one however deposits a bit too much pigment to the skin. Even when using a sheer fluffy brush there is just too much chalky frost that applies to the skin. Right now I have olive-medium skin, Chanel B30. 

Golden Radiance was also extremely frosty. It applies lighter than what you see in the compact primarily because there is so much frost. This one was a bit darker but emphasized pores and looked metallic on the cheeks. No amount of blending would make it look good.

I did test these on the eyes though and found they make stunning eye colors. The pigment and shimmer are more forgiving on the eyes and much more flattering. I’ve been looking for a frosted nude for quite some time for the eyes – Golden Radiance just might be my holy grail nude shimmer (although expensive for just one eyeshadow color).

Overall thoughts: Overall thoughts: My feelings/thoughts about the powders are mixed. The two new powders from Burberry don’t really fit my ideal for something that is luminous or glowy. While the pigment, texture, blendability are amazing, I found these to be overly frosty/shimmery which resulted in emphasized pores and for the pale one a chalky finish on the face. I tried layering over other colors and under bronzer to sheer out the frost. It was still a bit too frosty for my taste. I was hoping for a slightly more pigmented version of the Sheer Summer face quad. I really wanted to love these! I’m normally fine with larger amounts of shimmer on the face, for reference I can easily and comfortably wear most of MAC’s MSFs and Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks. That being said – I do find they work as shadows. I prefer the Golden shade since it’s not as pale/chalky on me. But in general for highlighters these are not among my top picks.

Burberry Siren Red Light Glow Blushes – Coral Pink No. 9 and Hydrangea Pink No. 10

Burberry’s Spring 2013 Siren Red Collection brings us two bright blushes with rich pigment. The two shades are Coral Pink No. 09 and Hydrangea Pink No. 10 ($42 each for 7g.0.24 oz, available on Nordstrom.com). Both shades are quite pigmented and due to the intensity of these shades I find they need a bit of extra work to apply. Each shade requires careful application with lots of blending. I found that no matter what brush I used, all applications required a lot of blending. I found layering over a soft powder highlighter to diffuse the intensity a bit.


Coral Pink No. 09 is deep warm rose pink with a very slight hint of coral. In the compact and on the skin, Coral Pink pulls more rose. Hydrangea Pink No. 10 is it’s deeper more intense sister with a slightly dustier-looking finish on the skin. Both shades go on matte but have a subtle satiny shimmer in the compact.
I tested each shade (one on each side) to compare. On the skin they have a very similar effect. If I had to pick one, I would say Coral Pink No. 09 wins my heart. The hint of coral in it brightens the face and makes my olive skin come to life. Hydrangea Pink No. 10 is a bit darker and dustier-looking on my skintone (but not muddy). The colors are indeed very intense. I’m all about bright colors for cheeks but the intensity of these these might make them outside your comfort zone. These are among the most intense blushes I’ve tried. I found the colors unique compared to others that I own. Scroll down for a few comparisons.

Swatches were difficult for me to capture accurately, in my photos I would say they pull a bit warmer than what you would see in real life. I recommend checking out blogs for swatches like Café Makeup and Lola’s Secret Beauty Blog.

Per request, I compared these to a few other blushes. Below: Burberry Cameo No. 02, Rose No. 03, Tom Ford Narcissist.

Bottom line: lovely, unique and fresh. To recap, if I had to pick one, I personally would go for Coral Pink No. 09, but they are both very pretty. I do think they are different enough to justify purchasing both though. They are bright and intense, but blendable and don’t appear muddy on the skin like some intense blushes can be. There is a very very slight rose scent but it disappears after a few minutes. I have a super sensitive nose and it does not bother me at all.

Burberry Beauty Mallow Pink, Pink Sweet Pea and Coral Lip Glow

Burberry has released a few new lip glosses for spring. The ones available at the Nordstrom counters include Lip Glows ($27 each) in Mallow Pink No. 19 (bright coral red), Pink Sweet Pea No. 20 (hot fuschia glow) and Coral No. 22 (sparkling orange). These colors are vibrant and unlike anything else in the Burberry Beauty line. Being the neutral-lover that I am, I was a bit intimidated by the shades but decided to give them a try. The shades are very pigmented with a high-gloss shine. After playing with these over the weekend I’ve decided they will be lovely for going out or special occasions. For my medium toned skin, coral is the only one that I feel I can pull off comfortably at the office or for everyday.

Swatch comparisons below show how vibrant and rich the Burberry spring glosses are. There is a slightly transparent quality because of the gloss formula, but the spring colors are highly pigmented. Below MAC Astral, Lé Métier Hibiskiss, Burberry Mallow Pink, Burberry Pink Sweet Pea, Burberry Coral, Chanel Désir 168, Chanel Nakkar 149, Burberry Cameo:

Overall thumbs up. Beautiful vibrant shades that are very wearable. For me, Coral is the only one I can safely pull off everyday, the others work but are more color than I’m used to. Still, the pigment and shine is just incredible. Lasting power was medium – better than Chanel glossimers, but not quite as long as say Bobbi Brown.

Burberry Gold Pearl No. 26 Eye Shadow

Burberry Beauty has released one new eye shadow for spring called Gold Pearl No. 26 ($29 for 2.5 g/0.088 oz, made in Italy). It’s a pale yellow gold that is different from any other Burberry shadow I’ve tried. Gold Pearl is a super-sheer gold. The base is a pale yellow but barely shows up on the skin. When applied, all you really see is gold shimmer. This color requires a moist base to prevent it from looking chalky. Applying this with a brush results in a soft dusting of gold micro-glitters. I’ve played with this color for about a week now – I don’t really like it but I don’t hate it. It’s a pretty gold shade for a dusting of shimmer and very different from Burberry shadows in general. I like variety of textures, pigments and finishes – it’s just not quite what I expected. At this point, I’m still undecided.

Here it is swatched several ways, it was really hard to photograph due to the sheer/sparkly nature. Do check out other blogs for other views – on the arm here it just looks all chalky and sparkly. Over a base and applied heavy the pale yellow base shows up more but it looks chalky.

Burberry No. 03 Pale Nude Complete Eye Palette

Burberry Pale Nude No. 03 Complete Eye Palette ($59) is a beautiful palette of soft neutrals. The colors layer well to create a soft illuminated eye with a soft contour. For many pale-colored quads, I find the shades all end up looking the same on my skin. Not so for the Pale Nude and I was surprised to find that this one is probably my favorite in out of the Burberry quads that I have tried.

The shades in Pale Nude include a frosted cool white, a yellowish light cream with an iridescent sheen, a soft nude pink shimmer and a warm tan beige shimmer. All the colors in this palette have shimmer and frost. The color payoff is excellent like Pale Barley but not quite as metallic on the lids making this a great everyday staple. Texture is buttery smooth like the Burberry singles. I found the texture of this quad to be the best out of all the ones I tested.

A few comparisons to other shades:

  • Pale Nude’s white is not as sharp as Porcelain White, but very similar
  • Pale Nude’s yellow cream looked similar to Porcelain in the compact, but it’s quite a bit more yellow
  • Pale Nude’s seashell pink is more neutral/warm than other Burberry pinks, I found it similar to Chanel’s Sillage single, just more neutral
  • Pale Nude’s brown shimmer is warmer and darker than Pale Barley

Overall a lovely staple and great palette for a soft nude eye. It does need a dark eyeliner for a complete eye look but other than that works great for me. The effect is subtle but glowy and softly defined. I really love it, but I can’t say it would be a must-have for everyone. I can definitely see that some would find it to be too neutral or pale depending on personal preference.
