New Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Additions

New Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Additions

Charlotte Tilbury expanded her Pillow Talk universe with new shades of Pillow Talk in the Lip Cheat Lip Liner, K.I.S.S.I.N.G. Lipstick and Collagen Lip Bath formulas. She also launched a plumper called the Pillow Talk Big Lip Plumpgasm Plumping Lip Gloss in two variations. As a fan of her original Pillow Talk Matte Revolution and Lip Cheat, I bought all the new ones to try and review.

Lip Cheat and Lipsticks

New Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Additions: Pillow Talk Fair, Original and Medium

For her lip liners and lipsticks she now as a shade called Pillow Talk Fair which is a cool-toned baby pink. I really love the Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk Fair which pulls a slightly bit deeper but the K.I.S.S.I.N.G. Lipstick is too pale and contrasted with my natural lip tone to work for me. It has a beautiful creamy formula that performs just as well as her other lipsticks. The shade is just too light and for me. For those who find her original Pillow Talk warm I think the new Pillow Talk Fair will be much better for you.

I’ve swatched all the Pillow Talk shades I have in the Fair, Original and Medium. I added Icon Baby to the mix by popular request. I really love that shade (reviewed here) but several of you aren’t a fan of the sparkle and glitter texture. It does not bother me but some were hoping that Pillow Talk Fair would be the same as Icon Baby without the shimmer. Swatching them side by side I think they’re very different.

I still like the original Pillow Talk the best for her lipsticks.

Plumpgasm Plumping Lip Gloss

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Big Lip Plumpgasm Plumping Lip Gloss

Charlotte Tilbury’s new Pillow Talk Big Lip Plumpgasm Plumping Lip Gloss is going to be either hit or miss for you depending on your pain tolerance for the tingle. I’d rate it an 8 out of 10 with a very strong sting that doesn’t go away. Some plumpers tingle for a few minutes but then the tingle fades. These are very strong on me and as much as I tried to love these, I just can’t. The tingle is as strong as the Fenty Heat and Maybelline Lifter Plumping Glosses on me and I cannot handle it.

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Big Lip Plumpgasm Plumping Lip Gloss Fair Medium

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Big Lip Plumpgasm Plumping Lip Gloss Medium Deep

Colors are really beautiful though. I found it really interesting on my arm swatches (above) they pull really warm and almost orangey looking. In the tube and on my lips they pull more neutral.

I wish these were in a lip gloss vinyl/lacquer formula instead of the plumpers but I know plumpers are popular so I do see these being very on trend.

Collagen Lip Bath

Charlotte Tilbury Collagen Lip Bath

I’ve saved the best for last because I think I love the Collagen Lip Bath more than anyone else. These give the illusion of fuller lips but it’s not really a plumping gloss, it has a high shine with a cushiony feel that makes them look super lush and glossy.

Rosy Glow is actually my favorite which I don’t have anymore because I’ve used it up multiple times (so I’m re-ordering as one last Sephora haul). I do really love the new Pillow Talk shades along with the Original.

Pillow Talk Fair is a pale milky pink but it’s one I can wear without looking like I have white-out on my lips. Pillow Talk Original is a nude pink. Pillow Talk Medium is a deeper rose nude. Pillow Talk Deep is pretty sheer but with some layering it gives a really pretty chestnut brown look.

Charlotte Tilbury Collagen Lip Bath Pillow Talk

Charlotte Tilbury Collagen Lip Bath Pillow Talk swatches

I added swatches next to Refresh Rose, Peachy Plump and Walk of No Shame.

Overall I think these are beautiful additions to the Pillow Talk lineup. The KISSING Lipstick did not work for me shade-wise and the Plumping Lip Glosses are a no-go as they’re too painful for me to handle.
The others are solid A+ material.

YSL Beauty

YSL Beauty Haul – New Bronzers, Shadows + Lipsticks

March 29, 2024

YSL Beauty Haul, new All Hours Hyper Bronze, Hyper Finish Powder, Couture Eyeshadows

I’ve been hauling lots of newness from YSL Beauty as they’ve revamped quite a few products for the face and added new shades of lipsticks to their lineup. I hauled a few of their eyeshadow palettes a while ago and finally put them to the test. There’s a lot that I’ve shared tutorials for on my Instagram Reels. If you haven’t seen them I’ll link them below.

Some of the items are exclusive to certain retailers so you may have to shop at different places for all of these. I’ll share all my thoughts, hits and misses below.

All Hours Hyper Bronze

YSL All Hours Hyper Bronze 02 and 03

The All Hours Hyper Bronze Powder ($65) has launched exclusively at Nordstrom in the US. They’re also available in the UK at Selfridges. There are 5 shades total and according to their shade reference chart I ordered Shade 02 and 03. This is a long-wear blurring powder with a satiny finish. There is a very subtle shimmer to it that I only notice on arm swatches. On my face it looks more matte.

Right now Shade 02 looks better on my skin as it’s more neutral in undertone but it’s pretty close to my skin tone so it’s barely there. Shade 03 shows up better with more contrast but the undertone is very yellow/gold which almost looks muddy.

YSL All Hours Hyper Bronze 02

YSL All Hours Hyper Bronze 03

I do like the soft blurred effect. Pigment is medium and very easy to blend for a natural blurred bronze look. These are packaged in a very thick sturdy mirrored compact with chevron pattern and gold logo.

I give the formula a solid A but I’m not 100% sold on the colors. Bronzers can be tricky depending on your skin tone and undertone. Since I’m not my usual tan yet, I like the undertone of 02 and wish 03 had the same undertone.

For skintone reference, I’m wearing Armani Luminous Silk Foundation in 6 + 6.5 mixed with the All Hours Hyper Finish Powder in 03. Swatch comparisons below to a few others like the Gucci Bronzers, Dior Natural Bronzer, Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Matte Bronzer, Sisley and Westman Atelier.

All Hours Hyper Finish Powder

As a huge fan of the YSL base products like the Touche Eclat Concealer I had high hopes for the All Hours Hyper Finish Setting Powder ($65, also exclusive to Nordstrom right now) and ordered Shade 03. This is a great blurring powder with a soft matte finish. Shade 03 is just the slightest bit too dark as it oxidizes very slightly but it’s still a very good match.

YSL All Hours Hyper Powder Shade 03

It blurs, smooths, sets. This also comes with a compartment underneath with a sponge. It has a beautiful finish with longwear. It is fragranced with a fresh kind of scent. I like it but it’s not the best one out there. I still prefer the Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish or Sisley Blur Expert Powder for a pressed blurring powder. The NARS Light Reflecting Powder is also better in my opinion.

Couture Mini Clutch Eyeshadows

YSL Couture Mini Clutch Eyeshadows

The Couture Mini Clutch Eyeshadows ($68 each at Nordstrom and Sephora) have been on my radar for quite some time. They seemed incredibly expensive for a 4-pan palette although the textures felt really silky and smooth to the touch in testers. I picked up 2 shades and was sent 1 in PR. I like 200 Gueliz Dream the best out of the ones I tried.

After playing with these I have mixed thoughts. The mattes are BEAUTIFUL in texture and pigment. I think the silky smooth finish is really pleasant to apply and they blend and layer really well. The sparkle glitters are absolutely stunning but they have such a lightweight texture without any substance. If I apply them onto a creamier base by themselves they adhere well. As a topper on top of the mattes the glitter just doesn’t have as much impact and they feel like they are going to fall straight to my cheeks. They actually do have decent lasting power and the fallout is minimal. For a sparkle topper Natasha Denona, Pat McGrath and Too Faced Natural Nudes palettes are much better in quality, wearability and color payoff. I also think these are a better buy – they’re a lot more versatile.

YSL Couture Mini Clutch Eyeshadows swatches

Colors are beautiful. Quality is good. I just don’t really love the sparkles in these.

New Shades Rouge Pur Couture + The Bold High Pigment

YSL added yet more shades of the Rouge Pur Couture ($48) and The Bold High Pigment ($48). All the new shades are neutrals.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture and The Bold High Pigment new shades

This time they added their best selling 44 Nude Lavalliere in both formulas. I shared a video wearing all 4 formulas of 44 Nude Lavalliere (I’ll link below). It includes their original Rouge Volupte Shine (now discontinued), new Loveshine and both high pigment versions.

For the newer shades of lipstick they added neutrals. Rouge Pur Couture 14 is a lighter pink nude (washes me out completely), N15 is a chestnut brown, N44 is a very cool-toned blue baby pink. The Bold High Pigment 16 is my perfect neutral pink brown, 17 is a cool rose, 44 is a cool-toned pale pink.

Here are swatches of the new Rouge Pur Couture + The Bold High Pigment compared to the other shades I have in both formulas.

YSL Rouge Pur Couture and The Bold High Pigment new shades swatches

New shades on me:

YSL Rouge Pur Couture and The Bold High Pigment new shades swatches

Out of all the neutrals I love The Bold High Pigment 16 and Rouge Pur Couture 15. If I had been able to try the others in person I would have passed as they’re a bit too cool-toned for my complexion but I know a lot of you struggle to find cooler-toned neutrals so these might be perfect for you!

Formula wise the Rouge Pur Couture is creamier and smoother while The Bold High Pigment is thicker and has longer wear time. I just checked the prices and I have to say I’m shocked at all the price increases these days. The last time I bought these they were $45 which is still steep. They’re now $48 which to me gives me a bit of sticker shock.

If you have any of the lipsticks or eyeshadows on your radar Nordstrom is offering 15% off a lot of their beauty products right now (limited-time price matching sale) and the Sephora Savings Event is just around the corner starting April 5 if you’re a Rouge Beauty Insider.

Overall some great new products I had fun testing out. Not all must-haves for me but still definitely very good in terms of quality and color-payoff.

New Guerlain KissKiss Bee Glow Oil, Terracotta Blush + Concealer

March 13, 2024

New Guerlain KissKiss Bee Glow Oil, Terracotta Blush and Concealer review

Guerlain added quite a few new things in their makeup lineup and I have a roundup review of their KissKiss Bee Glow Oil, Terracotta Powder Blush and Terracotta Concealer.

Terracotta Concealer

Guerlain Terracotta Concealer 3N

Guerlain launched their Terracotta Le Teint Foundation last year (reviewed here). This year they’ve added a Terracotta Concealer ($47) to the lineup and it has a beautiful formula. It’s what I would call a classic concealer formula – not too creamy, not too thick, not too matte, not too radiant. Formula is just right.

I used their shade chart to order Shade 3N since I use 3N and 3.5N in the foundation. It’s a good match but I wish I had purchased 2.5N for more brightening under the eyes. There is added fragrance and it’s pretty strong just like the foundation but it didn’t irritate my skin and seemed to wear just fine without any issues.

Below the 3N Le Teint foundation all over blended with the 3N Concealer

Guerlain Terracotta Concealer 3N

3N Terracotta Concealer blended with the Hourglass Vanish Concealer Brush

Guerlain Terracotta Concealer 3N

The only downside is applicator is difficult to pull out of the container. On one hand the design seems to ensure product will not leak. But it is difficult to pull out and takes some tugging (I have to be careful otherwise product goes flying everywhere).

I shared a quick look on my Instagram stories and had a number of questions about this and how it compares to other formulas. This is a classic formula with a satin finish and very good coverage and blendability. It doesn’t cake or crease. A little goes a long way and it’s easy to work with. Formula is VERY good in my opinion, but I still prefer the Natasha Denona concealer formula which is creamier, has better packaging and better for multi-tasking. This one also has fragrance in it but it’s not noticeable to me.

Comparison swatches below which I know are all over the place in terms of color. I am still in my winter skin tone so most of my matches look orangey on my skin but in a few weeks I will have my tan back and most of these will match better:

Guerlain Terracotta Concealer 3N swatches vs Dior, Givenchy, Natasha Denona, Makeup by Mario

Terracotta Powder Blush

Guerlain Terracotta Blush Light Pink and Light Coral

Guerlain also launched a new cheek product called the Terracotta Powder Blush ($55). These are soft silky satin blushes in beautiful colors. They have a soft texture with a little bit of a glow. I picked out two to try in 01 Rose Clair/Light Pink which is a soft pink and 02 Corail Clair/Light Coral a soft peach. Both show up well even on my medium skin tone.

They do not swatch the best on the arm or hand so I did not include arm swatches but they apply beautifully on the skin. They meld into the skin beautifully, last long. Colors are easy to build up pigment wise without looking cakey or powdery. If you like their bronzers I think you will like these.

They are heavily fragranced and while the colors are beautiful and very wearable (at least for the 2 I bought) I do think they can be easily duped from other brands like the ones from Gucci or Armani. That being said I do think the lasting power of these Guerlain ones is better.

KissKiss Bee Glow Oil

Guerlain KissKiss Bee Glow Oil

Guerlain launched lip oils and I am 100% in love with these. The KissKiss Bee Glow Oil ($40) comes in six shades and they have a color-reviving formula. They swatch sheer but once on the lips transform into a soft tint.

These are heavily scented with a strong honey scent but it’s pleasant to me and I love them. They’re thick and smoothing and give the lips a beautiful glazed look. On me they feel slightly plumping and they feel very hydrating.

Colors will most likely look a little different on everyone since they react to your pH. Lasting power is pretty good. They feel thick for an oil but it’s comfortable and adheres well to the lips.

The question so many of you have asked is how the Guerlain KissKiss Bee Oil compares to the Dior Lip Glow Oil and I have to say I have not really been a HUGE fan of the Dior ones. I think the Dior Lip Oil is a nice formula but in my experience all the colors look identical on my lips (clear). For me they just did not live up to the hype and the Dior formula feels like something that is going to slide off my lips (even though it is thick) and they feel sticky.

The Guerlain oils feel thicker and more cushiony but the texture isn’t tacky feeling. They also don’t feel like they’re sliding off my lips – it’s like a glossy hydrating cushion that stays put. The color reviving quality is stronger so more of a tint shows up on my lips with the Guerlain oils.

Bottom line love.

KissKiss Bee Glow

Guerlain KissKiss Bee Glow Lip Balm

Last I have a quick look at the KissKiss Bee Glow Lip Balms ($40 each). These are color reviving balms with a sheer wash of color but transform on your lips. I did quick swatches of these on my arm since the way they will look on my lips most likely won’t be the same for everyone. These are highly under-rated. I think the Guerlain KissKiss Be Glow balms rival the Dior Addict Lip Glow in formulas for hydration and color. I love both formulas. If you’re looking to try something new I highly recommend checking out the ones from Guerlain for better hydration (I think Honey Glow is my favorite).

Guerlain KissKiss Bee Glow Lip Balm swatches

I think the balm + oils layered in coordinating colors create a really pretty combination!

That wraps up my Guerlain roundup! Absolutely obsessed with the new Lip Oils and I will be keeping one of the balms in my purse at all times. Concealer and blushes are nice but not must-haves. I do think the formulas and colors are excellent, I am just not sure I would call them game changers or super unique.

Available now at Guerlain.

New Patrick Ta Spring Launches 2024

Patrick Ta added new shades of his Double Take Creme and Powder Blush ($38 each) and Major Volume Plumping Lip Glosses ($26 each). They just launched at Sephora and I did a haul of some new shades as they looked really pretty and fresh for spring! I have some hits and a few misses with the new colors.

Double Take Creme and Powder Blush

There are three new shades of the Double Take Creme and Powder Blush. Based on the online descriptions and photos I thought there might be a chance one would not work for my skin tone, but I was interested in trying all three.

For those new to these they have a cream and a powder in each compact. I just learned today that my traditional way of applying cream first then top with powder isn’t the right way to use these blush duos but I still prefer it after trying both methods.

According to Patrick Ta the colors are meant to be applied with the powder first and cream on top for a dewy finish and to seal in the powder color. A lot of the powders in his look really sheer on my bare skin but on top of a powder they really pop! If you own any of his blush duos I’m interested to hear how you apply them.

Patrick Ta Spring Double Take Creme and Powder Blush: Just Enough, She's the Moment and Not Too Much

Patrick Ta Spring Double Take Creme and Powder Blush: Just Enough, She's the Moment and Not Too Much swatches

Just Enough is a baby pink blush duo. This ended up being too light and powdery looking on my skin because of the milky colors. I think it would make a great layering shade like Gucci Beauty True Pink. If you’re lighter or fair in skin tone I think you would really love this one.

She’s the Moment has peachy tangerine tones. This is a really pretty duo I think will be really beautiful for warmer months.

Not Too Much is a mix of neutral rose brown beiges. This is the perfect everyday neutral combo. It pulls a little more pink on my skin but has enough beige/brown tones that it looks more natural. I love this duo.

Major Volume Plumping Lip Glosses

Patrick Ta added new shades of his Major Volume Plumping Lip Glosses in a richer pigment formula. The colors definitely have a lot more pigment in them this round! I am not sure if my lips have become more sensitive or if they changed the formula because the new shades have a bit of sting to the lips. I accidentally put some on my tongue and it felt like it was on fire! The tingle isn’t so painful I have to take it off, it’s just on the stronger side.

Patrick Ta Major Volume Plumping Gloss Say Less, Need Her and Obviously

Patrick Ta Major Volume Plumping Gloss Say Less, Need Her and Obviously swatches

Plumping-wise they really do plump up the lips significantly within minutes.

I ordered 3 of the 5 new shades:

Say Less is a milky pink that pulls too pale on my lips, but if I mix it with his sheer red Full Syringe, I can make it work.

Need Her is the perfect everyday rose pink neutral. 100% love.

Obviously is a beautiful toffee brown. I love this color too. I normally cannot pull off browns on the lips but this has the perfect amount of warmth to make it wearable for me. Love this one too.

Dior Highlighters

New Dior Forever Glow Star Filter & Maximizer

February 23, 2024

Dior Beauty Forever Glow Star Filter & Maximizer

I have a look at some Dior Beauty newness today that I’ve been loving! Dior launched new liquid highlighters and complexion enhancers called the Forever Glow Star Filter ($55 each) & Glow Maximizer ($45 each). They also added some new shades of the Addict Lip Maximizer ($40) which I have a closer look at today. Available at Dior, Sephora, Nordstrom and all Dior Beauty retailers.

Dior Forever Glow Star Filter

Dior Beauty Forever Glow Star Filter Shade 2 and 3

Dior added a multi-use complexion enhancer called the Forever Glow Star Filter. These are similar in concept to the elf Halo Glow Liquid Filter and Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter – you can wear these on bare skin as a primer, mixed with foundation or applied on top of foundation as a subtle highlight. There are 10 shades available in the Dior lineup. I am usually a 2.5 or 3 in their foundation so I ordered Shade 2 and Shade 3 in the Forever Glow Star Filter.

Dior Beauty Forever Glow Star Filter Shade 2 and 3

Dior Beauty Forever Glow Star Filter & Maximizer swatches

Both have a very smooth glow to them. The shimmer particles are very fine so so I can wear it all over the face without looking like a disco ball. I will say the degree of shimmer on your skin will depend on what color you pick. Shade 2 is lighter than my skin tone and the brightness/contrast makes it look more glowy on my skin while Shade 3 matches better and has a more subtle glow effect since it’s closer to my skin tone.

Formula is on the medium thin side so it does not feel heavy and it blends in and sets nicely. I wouldn’t say it has a matte dry down but at the same time it’s not super emollient. It’s somewhere in the middle – I think it’s perfect.

Below with Shade 3 applied all over the face vs the Glow Star Filter as a base with the Dior Forever Skin Glow Foundation and Concealer (both in Shade 2.5) on top.

Dior Shade 2 and 3 compared to the Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter and elf Halo Glow Liquid Filters.

Dior Beauty Forever Glow Star Filter vs Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter and elf Halo Glow Liquid Filter

Overall love the look, feel and lasting power of the Dior one. The undertones, texture and shimmers are different from the other ones on the market but there are enough similarities I don’t think you need all three. I do really like that the Dior comes with a pump vs a sponge applicator. Seems more sanitary to me. The Dior has fragrance in it, but it’s low on the ingredient list and I don’t really notice it. If I were forced to pick 1 out of the 3 I feel like I would be most inclined to pick the elf Halo Glow Liquid Filter. The shimmer is the most natural making it easy to wear all over the face without emphasizing fine lines or texture even on my bad skin days. (elf Halo Glow filter in action on skin here.)

Forever Glow Maximizer

Dior Forever Glow Maximizer Longwear Liquid Highlighter swatches

Dior also added six shades of a more intense liquid highlighter called the Forever Glow Maximizer. I picked up three and really like! These are very shimmery with a good amount of pigment. They are easier to blend than the Rare Beauty Liquid Luminizers but I would say pigment level is pretty close.

UPDATE 4/13/2024: Dior now has seven shades. I’ve since added both the Pink, Bronze and Pearly shades to my collection from the Sephora Savings Event along with their newest shade Nude which is a really pretty champagne. Adding swatches below.

Gold is a pretty warm gold shimmer. Peachy is a light peachy champagne. Rosy is a darker pink rose which doubles as a blush for my skin tone. I did find the shades I picked up different from the others in my highlighter stash, but there are some that are pretty close – close enough to be similar on the skin.

Dior Makeup Look Breakdown

New Dior Addict Lip Maximizers

Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Frosted Pink and Shimmery Spice

Dior added a few new shades of the Addict Lip Maximizers which seem to be exclusive to Dior.com and I ordered 2 of them. Frosted Pink is a beautiful cool-toned pink shimmer. It’s better than Shimmer Candy (reviewed here) since the shimmer in Frosted Pink is more refined vs straight up frost.

Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Frosted Pink and Shimmery Spice

Shimmery Spice is a beautiful peachy copper shimmer with a tiny bit of rose, pink and gold mixed in. I love it. I really love both of them. Both on the lips in action here.

That wraps up my Dior Beauty newness haul review! I really love everything I hauled. I don’t know that I would call the complexion highlighters must haves since there are so many dupes on the market, but I really love the finish, colors and undertones.

I do think the new glosses are must-haves. I think the colors are really beautiful.

New No 1 de Chanel Launches

There are new No 1 de Chanel launches this spring including three new shades of the Revitalizing Lip and Cheek Balms ($48 each), a Revitalizing Nourishing Duo ($170) and Revitalizing Mask ($100). Available at Chanel and Ulta Beauty.

Revitalizing Lip and Cheek Balms

New No 1 de Chanel Revitalizing Lip Cheek Balms

Chanel added three new shades of the Revitalizing Lip and Cheek Balms in 07 Vibrant Coral, 08 Ardent Brick and 09 Purple Energy. All three are brighter bold shades that are really pretty for spring to summer. These have a dewy balmy texture with no dry down (they stay dewy). Since they’re balms there is a bit of stickiness to them. I really like these on the lips. Since they’re very balmy they adhere well and stay put. It is colder and drier than usual this time of year here in Florida which means I can wear a lot of things I normally can’t. I’ve been really enjoying things for dry or normal-to-dry skin and I think the No 1 de Chanel line is best for that skin type.

Revitalizing Nourishing Duo

No 1 de Chanel Revitalizing Nourishing Duo

There’s a cute Revitalizing Travel Duo with minis of the No 1 de Chanel Revitalizing Serum and Crème Riche. I tried these in a few mini sample GWPs when the line first launched and found the formulas too rich for my skin type. They both have a beautiful texture and feel but are heavily scented. I did try them again to review and while the scent did not irritate my skin I did find both a little too heavy. My skin has been dry but I still feel both of these are best suited for truly dry skin. They come in a little travel pouch which is really cute.

Revitalizing Mask

No 1 de Chanel Revitalizing Mask

Last we have a look at their new No 1 de Chanel Revitalizing Mask which I think is beautiful. It has a soft jelly texture. It’s a rinse off formula, you apply it to clean skin for 5 minutes and rinse off. It really does leave the skin feeling baby soft and luxuriously smooth. It’s also refillable and you can purchase the refills separately. Two concerns with this formula are the fragrance and alcohol high up in the ingredients list. I was fortunate neither irritated my skin but wanted to put this on your radar in case you have skin sensitivities.

Overall love the look of the new Lip and Cheek Balms. I’ll be enjoying them on both the lips and cheeks right now. When the heat returns to Florida though I suspect they will be too heavy and dewy to wear on my cheeks in humid weather, but I will still be able to use them on the lips. The skincare additions are nice, but not really for my skin type.

Available now at Chanel and Ulta Beauty.

Have you tried these yet? What did you think?

Hourglass Cosmetics Lips

New Hourglass Lip Launches: Unlocked Soft Matte Lipstick, Lip Liners + New Shades Phantom Glossy Balm

February 6, 2024

New Hourglass Unlocked Soft Matte Lipstick and Lip Liners review

My spring lip testing continues with a look at the newest launches from Hourglass Cosmetics. They launched a new Unlocked Soft Matte Lipstick ($38 each), Shape and Sculpt Lip Liners ($29 each) and four new shades of their Phantom Volumizing Glossy Balm ($36). I hauled these from Sephora but they’re also available at Hourglass, Nordstrom, Bluemercury, Neiman Marcus and all Hourglass retailers.

Unlocked Soft Matte Lipstick

New Hourglass Unlocked Soft Matte Lipstick review

The Unlocked Soft Matte Lipstick is a soft blurred matte lipstick with full coverage. They’re very opaque with full coverage and according to Hourglass they’re infused with a primer for smooth application. I found they did indeed apply smoothly but there was some tugging and looked dry on my lips. Granted a matte finish can look dry, but these felt like they sucked all the moisture from my lips making them feel a little tight.

Most of the colors I tried pulled very warm on me. The matte finish made these look a little muted/faded on me, but it could just be the colors I picked out. They swatch beautifully on the hand. On my darker pigmented lips I did not really like any of these shades. Poppy is pretty and right along the lines of a shade I would wear, but in real life it emphasizes my lip lines and looks very dry.

I do think they are long-wearing but they felt so dry & uncomfortable on my lips I couldn’t leave them on long enough to see how long they would last.

  • Magnolia is a pale warm nude pink
  • Tulip is a cool-toned pink
  • Tigerlily is a burnt orange
  • Peony is a warm brown beige
  • Foxglove is a very warm berry
  • Poppy is a muted coral (not shown above because I dropped it and the entire tube was smashed)

New Hourglass Unlocked Soft Matte Lipstick and Lip Liner swatches review

For skin tone reference I am a match to the Veil Hydrating Skin Tint in Shade 9 right now (reviewed in this post here). I think the original/regular Unlocked Lipsticks are far superior in terms of formula, comfort and color selection.

Shape and Sculpt Lip Liners

There are seven new Shape and Sculpt Lip Liners. As a neutral lip lover I picked up the four lightest colors. Formula is very long-wearing. Application is relatively smooth. Shades pull very warm and I’m not sure the colors aren’t unique enough to justify if you already own a lot of neutrals.

  • Shade 1 Expose does not show up on my lips, but these days I feel like most of the new lighter neutral pencils do not
  • Shade 2 Flaunt is a warm pink rose beige
  • Shade 3 Tempt is a deeper brown pink
  • Shade 4 Undercover is a darker terracotta brown rose

Phantom Volumizing Glossy Balm

Hourglass Phantom Volumizing Glossy Balm swatches

Last we have a look at the new shades of Phantom Volumizing Glossy Balm. I love this formula although in the hot summer months they can get a little melty in the tube. They’re soft, glossy, hydrating and have a slight cooling sensation. Hourglass added the 2 shades from their Holiday 2024 Duo Set and I’m thrilled they’re permanent! These are very balmy so the lasting power isn’t super long, but this is a formula I don’t mind reapplying. Just an FYI price for what you get is pretty high. A number of you have told me to me these were not worth it for you because you used them up in a matter of a few weeks with daily use and re-application. I kinda agree, but I like these enough to splurge on. New Shades include:

  • Crave – warm pink
  • Rouse – plum brown
  • Reveal –  bluer-toned pink (cooler version of Crave)
  • Wish a pretty coral color

I swatched these next to some of the other Phantom Glossy Balms I own:

Overall the matte lipsticks are a miss for me. I think there are better matte lip formulas out there like from brands like Pat McGrath, Lisa Eldridge, Charlotte Tilbury and Armani to name a few. That being said I usually do not like or wear matte lips and I have seen a lot of positive reviews on these – I might be the only one who does not love these.

Lip liners aren’t bad. The colors don’t really jump out to me, but formula is long-wearing and I think they could be neutral staples if you don’t have a lot of lip pencils.

I love the new shades of Phantom Glossy Balm. I think they’re fresh, flattering and perfect for year round – they have me looking forward to warm weather months.

Available now at SephoraHourglass, Nordstrom, Bluemercury, Neiman Marcus and all Hourglass retailers.

That wraps up my Hourglass lip launch review! If you tried these let me know what you thought!
