Chanel launched a new lipstick called Rouge Allure Velvet Nuit Blanche ($50 each at Chanel.com) in a black and white case. The lipsticks are designed for each hour of the night featuring Margo Robbie as their beauty muse. I’m late to the game trying these but I’m really happy I did. I managed to snag Shade 07:00 in the second restock after it sold out. I am really hoping they restock again!
The formula is an ultra smooth velvet with a slightly luminous kind of finish so it’s not flat or drying. This Rouge Allure Velvet formula is exceptionally smooth, truly beautiful and pure luxury. Colors apply flawlessly. You can wear these blotted for a soft diffused blurred matte or apply with a heavier hand for full coverage.
The Chanel team sent a 4 piece boxed set which I don’t see on their site, but all the Rouge Allure Velvet Nuit Blanche shades are available individually.
00:00 is a warm dusty red
01:00 is a burnt orange
02:00 is a brighter orange red
06:00 is a plum
07:00 is a sheer barbie pink
As a neutral lip lover you can probably guess my favorite is the one I bought shade 07:00. It’s the perfect bright sheer pink. The formula on this one seems to be different from the other shades. 07:00 is sheerer with less pigment and it also has a more glossy finish on me which I love.
Even though I don’t wear bold reds or oranges I can appreciate these for more dressy occasions where you want to wear a statement lip. Nobody else does it quite like Chanel for a classic luxury lip.
Chanel added three new shades of the Revitalizing Lip and Cheek Balms in 07 Vibrant Coral, 08 Ardent Brick and 09 Purple Energy. All three are brighter bold shades that are really pretty for spring to summer. These have a dewy balmy texture with no dry down (they stay dewy). Since they’re balms there is a bit of stickiness to them. I really like these on the lips. Since they’re very balmy they adhere well and stay put. It is colder and drier than usual this time of year here in Florida which means I can wear a lot of things I normally can’t. I’ve been really enjoying things for dry or normal-to-dry skin and I think the No 1 de Chanel line is best for that skin type.
There’s a cute Revitalizing Travel Duo with minis of the No 1 de Chanel Revitalizing Serum and Crème Riche. I tried these in a few mini sample GWPs when the line first launched and found the formulas too rich for my skin type. They both have a beautiful texture and feel but are heavily scented. I did try them again to review and while the scent did not irritate my skin I did find both a little too heavy. My skin has been dry but I still feel both of these are best suited for truly dry skin. They come in a little travel pouch which is really cute.
Revitalizing Mask
Last we have a look at their new No 1 de Chanel Revitalizing Mask which I think is beautiful. It has a soft jelly texture. It’s a rinse off formula, you apply it to clean skin for 5 minutes and rinse off. It really does leave the skin feeling baby soft and luxuriously smooth. It’s also refillable and you can purchase the refills separately. Two concerns with this formula are the fragrance and alcohol high up in the ingredients list. I was fortunate neither irritated my skin but wanted to put this on your radar in case you have skin sensitivities.
Overall love the look of the new Lip and Cheek Balms. I’ll be enjoying them on both the lips and cheeks right now. When the heat returns to Florida though I suspect they will be too heavy and dewy to wear on my cheeks in humid weather, but I will still be able to use them on the lips. The skincare additions are nice, but not really for my skin type.
This year Chanel has surprised us with a new collection launched called the Les Beiges Winter Glow Collection. As a huge fan of their Les Beiges collections, I was thrilled to see this with a wintery twist. The collection launched in early January online at Chanel.com and after playing with everything for a few weeks I have a review today including:
There are three shades of the Les Beiges Healthy Winter Glow Blush. These are limited-edition powder blushes in the Les Beiges beige compact with a snowflake embossed on the surface of the powder. They have an almost creamy texture, like a cream to powder, but perform more like a powder. Each shade has impressive buildable pigment that is easy to layer. They have a subtle glow and each shade has some shimmer in them.
Rose Polaire
Rose Polaire is my favorite. It’s a baby rose pink that has a really stunning glow to it. I was worried it would be too pale to show up on my medium Chanel B40 skin tone but it shows up beautifully for a pretty baby pink flush.
Corail Givre is a stunning coral with gold shimmer. This has a similar look to some of the other Chanel peachy blushes but has a brightness that brings the skin to life. The gold shimmer adds a pretty glow – the shimmer and sparkles are more visible on the skin in this one.
Below Corail Givre Blush with Les Beiges Eyeshadow Palette in Warm (from a previous launch) and Rouge Coco Baume in Cocoon
________
Mauve Glace
Mauve Glace is a beautiful neutral-warm mauve. It looks cool-toned in the pan but on my skin it pulls a bit reddish leaning more towards a warmer mauve. I think this is a really pretty shade that will be great for spring.
Chanel launched a new Healthy Glow Eyeshadow Palette called Cool. As someone who rarely wears purple shadows I have to say this far exceeded my expectations. It has a soft seashell pink satin, a medium warm pink satin, shimmering warm purple burgundy, a darker plum with gold flecks and a sparkling lilac glittery sparkle topper. The sparkle shade almost has a duo chrome quality and flashes blue, violet and pink.
Texture is very soft and powdery so there is fallout when you apply but they do stay put on the eyes without migrating. I think the light sparkle shade makes this palette special. The eye look comes alive with the pop of violet/pink shimmers. Pigment is medium but buildable. I really love this palette! See it in action here.
Rouge Coco Baume
There are three new Rouge Coco Baumes. These are sheer tinted balms in a twist up tube format. If you’re new to these these have a comfortable feel, no scent and sheer-medium color payoff.
Chilling Pink is a very sheer pale milky pink. It’s not visible on the arm or hand swatch but on my lips I see a very pretty sheer milky pink.
Keep Cool has a pretty 90s vibe. On my lips it’s very pale, almost like a taupe shade. I think it’s better when paired with a deeper or warmer liner on my lips. It pulls very cool toned.
Cocoon is a sheer berry color. It has a slight hint of shimmer to it but pulls more like a cream. It’s almost like a reddish bitten stain on my lips. It’s very pretty – on me it pulls warm in undertone.
Le Vernis
The two Le Vernis shades are sheers, but they are very smooth sheers. Glaciale is a sheer milky white and Skieuse is a sheer baby pink. I applied both with 3 coats in the swatches below. I already bought backups of both shades. I think they’re really pretty.
Healthy Winter Glow Primers
Last I have some quick thoughts about the new Healthy Winter Glow Primers (available in 3 shades). These are very sheer glowy primers that almost have a gel-like feel. On my skin when layered over moisturizer they had a sticky feel. The colors are really pretty, but they are very sheer and don’t really give the skin much of a tint or glow. These are scented with fragrance. I didn’t notice much of a difference in my foundation with these. I think the No 1 de Chanel Skin Enhancers are better for my skin type. Swatches below of the Chanel highlighting fluids and La Base Illuminatrice. I didn’t swatch on the arm as they pretty much disappear once blended.
Today Chanel launches their Black Friday Limited-Edition Set called Light the Way ($111) with full-sizes of the LES BEIGES Healthy Glow Natural Eyeshadow Palette in Warm and LES BEIGES Healthy Glow Lip Balm in Medium. Both are permanent items in their Les Beiges lineup and it’s packaged in their holiday makeup pouch. I’ve included swatches below from my review of the items when they launched in previous years. I think both are classic staples you can wear year round.
Below left to right: Light, Medium, Deep
Their holiday sets usually sell out very quickly. If you had your eye on one I hope you can get your hands on this!
This holiday Chanel launched stunning Oversize Illuminating Face Powders ($95 each) in their Les Symboles de Chanel collection. There are five stunning embossed patterns to choose from and each symbol has a special meaning for Chanel: The Lion (strength), The Comet (luck), The Camellia (harmony), The Chain (style) and The Pearls (radiance).
There are three colors to choose from each design: Pearly White, Warm Gold and Precious Coral.
Pearly White
Pearly White is a glittery sparkling white. It has more glitter than most Chanel highlighters. Fun for holiday parties but VERY glittery. To my eye looks nearly identical to the sparkling bottom half of the Duo Lumiere from the Holiday 2023 collection. If I had to pick one I would opt for the Duo Lumiere because the color in the top portion is SO stunning.
Warm Gold is the perfect shade of warm gold. A little peachy, tiny bits of microsparkles (but not full on glitter) make this beautiful. There is another highlighter in the Poudre Lumiere formula called Warm Gold but the Warm Gold color in Les Symboles de Chanel is different. Noticeably different to justify owning both in my opinion. The holiday version is deeper, more golden and more sparkly/luminous.
Precious Coral is my favorite. It’s a beautiful light coral with the most perfect soft sheen to it. I want this shade in literally everything – tops, bags, lipstick, gloss, eyeshadow etc. I think it’s the prettiest color I think I’ve ever seen.
Overall beautiful and luminous. I collect Chanel highlighters so these were a must for me. I would have loved if the Pearly White were more of a smooth shimmer vs a glitter, but I still think it’s fun for holiday. My favorite is the Precious Coral although the Warm Gold is a very pretty flattering gold shade. It’s hard to pick a favorite pattern. I think they’re all beautiful but I think the Comet and Camellia are my favorites.
Available at Chanel.com and Chanel Beauty Boutiques. All limited-edition.
The Holiday 2023 Collection from Chanel has arrived and it is absolutely stunning. I’ve looked forward to Chanel’s holiday launch every year as they always go the extra mile to create something special and unique. The collection highlights a smokey eye with lots of bold reds for lips. They have a stunning highlighter compact, three new nail colors and a few neutral lip options too. Here is a look at what I’ve tested from this year’s holiday launch.
Duo Lumiere Illuminating Powder Duo
The Chanel highlighters never fail to impress, especially with their beautiful embossed patterns. This year they launched a Duo Lumiere Illuminating Powder Duo ($70). It’s a glimmering pink champagne and crystal white. The sparkle and shimmer is a bit chunkier than what we are used to seeing from Chanel but it’s beautiful and the sparkles look like what I think fairy dust would look like if it existed.
The colors seem similar to Tom Ford’s Moodlight but the texture and colors of the Chanel Duo are more modern and have more dimension while the Tom Ford offers more of a frosted glow by comparison.
Because it’s on the sparkly side there will be fallout from the brush when you apply, but once on the cheeks it stays put with pretty good pigment and coverage.
For the eyes Chanel launched a 5-pan eyeshadow palette and I’m a huge fan of this style. I wish Chanel would launch more palettes like this! Lumiere Graphique Eyeshadow Palette ($88) has a beautiful sequins print on the surface. All the shades are shimmery and one is a sparkly glitter top coat shade. Texture is soft and pigment is easy to build and layer.
Overall tone pulls more on the smokey cool side. There is one peach shade which I suspect will show up more peach/gold on fair skin tones. On my medium tank skin (Chanel B40) it pulls more champagne. Shimmers are on the sparkly side so there is a lot of powder kick up with an eyeshadow brush. I didn’t experience any fallout on the cheeks when applying though except for a tiny bit with the glittery white topper.
Shades are stunning for a holiday smokey eye. I like the mix of the taupe, peach and olive gold to make it different from your standard grey/black/silver smokey eye palette. It does pull more cool-toned that I am used to wearing these days, but I think it’s beautiful.
Holiday Le Vernis
There are three Le Vernis Longwear Nail Colors ($32 each) this season. They fit the holiday smokey glam theme. 167 White Silk is a sheer creamy white (requires 3 coats for full coverage, but it’s worth the extra effort and dry time). 169 Tuxedo is a beautiful shimmering brassy gold. It’s very metallic and I love that the brush strokes are not visible, it applies very smoothly with 2 coats. 171 Sequins is a soft black with super fine silvery white sparkles suspended throughout. This one is also shown with 2 coats.
Holiday Lips
It seems like Chanel Beauty had a holiday party theme in mind when creating their lip colors this season. They repromoted a few shades of the Rouge Allure L’Extrait which I think is one of the best formulas out there. They’re slim and small but the formula is creamy, smooth, hydrating, and pigmented. 812 Beige Brut is my perfect everyday beige neutral (repromoted), 854 Rouge Puissant is an electric bold red (also repromoted), 857 Midnight Red is new with a metallic finish but it’s a flattering deeper red metallic.
Beige Brut
Midnight Red
They have two new Rouge Allure Laque shades this season. I have one in 90 Golden Beige ($45) which is a very metallic gold shimmer. On me this is best as a topper on a neutral lipstick. Alone it pulls a bit too frosty. I think the undertone of the color is beautiful – I would have loved to see this in a gloss, eyeshadow, highlighter or blush color.
That wraps up my Chanel Holiday 2023 review. I think everything is beautiful. The stand out to me is the Duo Lumiere Illuminating Powder Duo. I already own the Rouge Allure L’Extrait in 812 Beige Brut and I love it so much am already on my second tube (they are refillable). I rarely wear red lips but I think Midnight Red is beautiful.
For the nail colors I think White Silk is a really flattering shade of off-white. It does take a bit more work with the layering but I think the undertone is perfect. It’s creamy but not yellow. Tuxedo is beautiful. I think Sequins is a shade we’ve definitely seen before in a number of lines but I really like that the shimmer is visible on the nails in a subtle way that makes it glow.
You can find everything out now available at Chanel.com and all other Chanel retailers. Have you checked out the holiday launch yet? What did you think?
Chanel launched a new lipstick called 31 Le Rouge ($195 each) inspired by their iconic address 31 Rue Cambon in Paris. There are 12 lipstick shades total packaged in a stunning re-fillable glass lipstick case that mirrors the Art Deco staircase in Gabrielle Chanel’s apartment. Each lipstick also comes with a quilted black case to protect the glass. This is one of the most luxurious lipsticks launched to date. Available now at Chanel.com.
Refills are available at $80 each but they cannot be used without the case (there is a lock/twist mechanism inside the base which needs the lipstick case to twist up).
So many of you have been asking me to review these. As a long-time die hard Chanel fan and collector I knew I had to purchase at least one. I ended up buying a few to try and today I’m sharing all of my thoughts after putting them to the test. First here is a look at all 12 shades.
If you want a closer look at the display, case options and more I posted an Instagram Reel of the store displays and setup. We now have a Chanel Beauty boutique in Tampa so I stopped by to swatch all the colors since they are exclusive to Chanel.com and Chanel boutiques. In stores they have a boxed Coffret Set you can customize and pick a leather case (white, black or silver).
Here are my thoughts on the new lipstick:
Formula is truly exceptional. It’s the most exquisite formula I’ve ever tried. It’s the best classic satin lipstick formula I think that has ever been made. Texture is smooth and comfortable. They glide on the lips flawlessly. Pigment is opaque and rich. It adheres well to the lips. They’re softly scented with a floral scent but it’s modern and soft. They have Gardenia Oil and have pretty good lasting power.
Packaging is beautiful. The Chanel 31 Le Rouge cases are exactly what you’d expect from Chanel. Thick, weighted, sturdy, constructed like a work of art and with a magnetized cap. The glass resembles the super thick glass of tempered glass (like the duraclear glasses you find at Williams-Sonoma). I think the separate pouch is beautiful too.
The pigment is also really beautiful. They have a micronized pearl making them luminous on the lips, although only one has visible shimmer. The biggest downside in my opinion is the limited color selection – they have one lighter neutral and eleven bolds. While it makes sense that they focused primarily on classic reds, I wish they had launched more neutrals, soft pinks even some mauves. A handful of you told me the lightest shade was going to be too light for you and the second lightest option was straight up orange.
I ended up picking 5 shades to try and here are my thoughts on each of them.
1 Rouge Beige
1 Rouge Beige is the lightest shade and it’s a pearlescent beige. I love it although it’s pale and is a little bit on the sheer side (at least compared to all the other colors in the lineup). This shade reminds me of one of my favorite Tom Ford Lipsticks from my early days of blogging In the Buff and Pink Dune. It’s not as visible in photographs but in real life you can see it on the lips a lot better.
2 Rouge Croisière looked promising as a healthy coral peach, but on my lips it’s really orange. It’s a vibrant coral that has a summery vibe. I do think you can tone down the color by lightly dabbing it versus swiping it on the lips.
_______
3 Rouge Roman
3 Rouge Roman is my second favorite shade. It’s nearly impossible for me to wear purples on the lips because I can never find the right undertone. Most are either too brown, too red, or too purple. I think this one has just the right mix to truly look like a plum/mauve on my lips.
_______
4 Rouge Flou
4 Rouge Flou is a bright warm red orange. Swatching it in store made me think it would be a warm coral but on my lips it definitely pulls more reddish. It’s so bright it is almost a electric neon kind of shade.
_______
10 Rouge Byzantin
10 Rouge Byzantin is a brown plum. There are 3 darker plum tones and they all looked really pretty in store. It was hard to narrow down my pick as the nuances between each of them are slight. I debated between Rouge Byzantin or Rouge 2.55 decided to opt for the one with more brown tones. It’s beautiful.
Are they worth the price? I really think this depends on your budget and personal preference. I had a chat with a few friends about the price recently – we talked about how some have no hesitation dropping $200 on a perfume, cashmere sweater, skincare etc, but not a lipstick or a makeup palette.
I don’t know that I will ever think a lipstick is worth a $200 price tag, but if you love Chanel or find a color you really love, I think the 31 Le Rouge Lipstick will make a beautiful collector piece. It will truly be a special splurge treat. The packaging is truly exquisite and formula is exceptional. Part of me wishes they had more neutrals or soft pinks, but I am happy to have at least 1 neutral.
