Laura Mercier Club Couture Collection Photos & Swatches

November 1, 2009

Laura Mercier’s new Club Couture collection has been spotted in person at Nordstrom! If you like soft light colors, then you will really like the new look Laura Mercier put together. The colors are stunning on her fair skin and just as pretty in person. You can get details on what products were used for the look on Laura Mercier’s website under “What’s New – Get This Look.”

I picked up the following items (L to R):

* Lip Color Shimmer in Designer Beige – a warm nude-brown with very slight gold shimmer (not really shimmery like her typical shimmer formula for lipsticks)
* Creme Lip Color in Pink Label – cool cream pink (a less purple version of MAC Syrup)
* Lip Glace in After Hours – shimmery milky light pink (reminds me of Chanel Sesame)
* Foiled Eye Color in VIP Silver – highly pigmented silver sparkle

Swatches:
1) Designer Beige Lipstick
2) Pink Label Lipstick
3) After Hours Lip Glace
4) VIP Silver Foiled Eyeshadow
5) Platinum Metallic Cream Eyeshadow (not part of the collection – just for comparisons)
6) VIP Silver layered over Platinum Metallic Cream

Gloss comparisons & swatches:
1) MAC Partial to Pink
2) Laura Mercier After Hours
3) Laura Mercier Babydoll
4) Laura Mercier Pink Pearl (plumping gloss)
5) Chanel Sesame
6) Nars Turkish Delight

Combination ideas/suggestions:

I think these colors would go well with:
* a smokey eye like Edward Bess Dusk Eyeshadow and Stila’s Black Cat Smudge Pot
* a soft pink cheek like Laura Mercier Barely Pink, Chanel Narcisse, or Le Metier Fresh Blush
* complimenting lip liners for the pink lipstick, Laura Mercier Chestnut or MAC Naked Rose
* coordinating lip liners for the beige lipstick, Laura Mercier’s Ambrosia or Nude Lips

The lip colors seem pretty versatile so you can combine them with almost any color like:
* a smokey dark purple eye (Nars Eurydice or Armani Eyes to Kill #3)
* a neutral eye (Laura Mercier’s Baked Eyeshadow Palette or Guerlain Bal de Nuit Quad)
* cool-toned eye (Chanel Mystic Eyes or Dior Smoky Crystal Quint).

There was also a Gold version of the Foil Eyeshadow which was also pretty, but a little too 24k gold looking for my skin. Would probably work well on darker skin tones though! There were a few repromoted items, such as the Whisper Cheek Duo, false lashes, and eyeliners.

Giorgio Armani Holiday 2009: Crystal Palette and Silk 94 Lipstick

October 25, 2009

Giorgio Armani’s Holiday collection has been arriving in stores in limited quantities, so if you like anything, I suggest you grab them fast! I called Saks today to find that they had sold out most of their palettes and had only one left which the SA was kind enough to hold for me.

I came home with the Crystal Palette and Silk 94 Lipstick:

Silk Lipstick #94:

The bottom tier of the Crystal Palette:

One more view:

I wish they had released an eyeshadow the same shade as the lipgloss, it would have made a gorgeous eye color! No swatches yet since it’s too pretty to touch!

I don’t remember all the shade names/numbers but this is what I saw:

* Crystal Palette – two tiered compact with crystals that contains a highlight powder oversprayed with silver sparkle, and 4 eyeshadows in shimmery cool charcoal, shimmery multi-dimensional teal, light silvery-blue, cool taupe grey
* Silk 94 Lipstick – sparkley (more shimmery than most armani lipsticks) golden-taupe
* Silk ?? Lipstick – shimmery warm red
* Lipshimmer 61 – matches the gold lipstick, but looks a bit more metallic/brassy
* Sheer Shimmer Powder #5 – I believe Armani had shimmer powders before, I can’t remember how many there used to be, but they are the same size as the blushes/bronzers, this one is a pale iridescent light pink (similar to Chanel Rosee Poudre Douce)
* Mascara Top Coat in a glittery bronze/gold

Giorgio Armani New Rouge D’Armani Lipsticks: Beige 100, 101, 102 & 103

October 16, 2009

I have yet to see the holiday collection from Armani, but my local Saks and Neimans just received the new long wear lipstick, Rouge D’Armani. They retail for $30 each and come in a new sleek black packaging that has a magnetic clasp which holds the lid in place.

Nude-beige and nude-pink lip lovers, you will like the colors in the Beige Family: Beige 100 and Beige 101 are both more of the true nude-beige brown colors. Beige 102 and 103 are more peachy-pinky and nude-pink. I haven’t tried them to see if they do in fact last 8 hours. However, I couldn’t resist the friends and family discount Saks has going on right now and figured they were worth the splurge.

They had quite a few lovely rose pink shades. Those who like a neutral-cool mauve pink, check out the Pink #501. The ones I purchased were the lightest and most neutral, but most of the shades were bolder and more vibrant. Have you seen/tried these yet? What colors did you pick up? Thoughts/comments?

Edward Bess Lipsticks & Glosses = Natural Perfection

October 4, 2009

Those who like natural lip colors but have a hard time finding one that works for you, I highly recommend you check out the shades from Edward Bess. I now have six lipsticks and two glosses and have more coming in the mail.

It can be challenging to pick something sight unseen – still unsure about the shades from the pictures? Call the Bergdorf Goodman counter and the girls there are excellent at recommending shades and describing them in full detail.

The Ultra Slick Lipsticks retail for $29 are made with a hydrating formula that is rich in pigment and made with Vitamins A & E. They are also “scented with the subtle fragrance of wild fig.”

My review: The lipsticks are indeed radiant and rich in pigment. The coverage is full without being too heavy or drying. I’ve worn Pure Impulse with MAC Dazzleglass in Bare Necessity and it lasted from about 4 pm until 10 pm. They do have a subtle sweet berry candy-like scent but it’s not too strong to be bothersome.

Lipsticks from the regular line:
* Pure Impulse – perfect natural nude (featured last week)
* Forbidden Flower – soft creamy light coral peach with a hint of pink
* Secret Desire – natural everyday your lips but better creamy pink

New for fall include three pinkish berry plum colors, all still natural and wearable (NOTE, I highly recommend checking out the feature on blogdorfgoodman – her photos of the fall lip colors are more accurate in my opinion, in my picture they all look the same for some reason):
* Tender Love – to me, the most natural of the three, a soft natural mauve rose
* Forever Yours – a natural light raspberry
* Night Romance – the brightest/coolest-toned of the three, a cool berry mauve rose

Closer view:

The Deep Shine Lip Glosses are equally stunning and retail for $28. Described as “seductive” with “radiance” and are supposed to be hydrating to create full lips.

My thoughts: My current favorite non-shimmery glosses are from Bobbi Brown for their gorgeous and long-lasting colors. However, they can be a bit thick and sticky (which I actually don’t mind). Edward Bess has some great non-shimmery shades that have decent lasting power, but without the sticky factor. Also scented with the same fragrance as the lipsticks.

Colors I have:
* Soft Whisper – the perfect nude-beige (featured last week)
* Bare Rose – a pretty creamy pink that matches Forbidden Flower but leans more towards the pink versus peach. If you love milky pinks, but find they are often too pale or milky, you will find that Edward Bess’s Bare Rose Gloss is a brighter version that will work a lot better for you.

Swatches in natural light, no flash:
* Top (l to r): Soft Whisper Lipgloss, Bare Rose Lipgloss
* Bottom (l to r): Pure Impulse, Forbidden Flower, Secret Desire, Tender Love, Forever Yours, Night Romance

Swatches with flash, same order as above:

See Sunday’s post for swatches of the entire collection to date directly from Bergdorf Goodman. Think you’ll like most of the colors and willing to splurge for *all* of them? Check out their luxurious Lip Wardrobe which has 10 lipsticks and 5 lipglosses for $400 (comes out to about $26.67 per piece) all in a gorgeous black lacquered box. (Details on edwardbess.com)

MAC Dsquared² Nude Rose Lustre Lipstick

October 1, 2009

MAC released their Dsquared² collection earlier than planned so I checked out the new colors and came home with Nude Rose Lustre Lipstick which is just that, a soft nude milky pink rose. I went through my lipstick stash to pull all the other soft pinky shades I’ve collected over the years from MAC and have concluded that I simply MUST STOP buying these milky pink colors! While it is very pretty and wearable, it’s not that unique and very similar to other shades MAC has released before.

Here are the comparisons to other MAC shades (I believe all were LE or discontinued except for Creme Cup):

L to R: 1) Classical, 2) Pure Rose, 3) Hue, 4) Her Fancy, 5) 3N, 6) Nude Rose, 7) Way to Love, 8) Pink Glaze, 9) California Dreamin’, 10) Creme Cup

Another view:

* Note since most of these are lustres or glazes, they are very sheer and so most of them don’t show up very well on my arm

First Look at Edward Bess: Naturally Chic

September 24, 2009

What came in the mail from Bergdorf Goodman:

* Ultra Luminous Eyeshadows in Intimate & Dusk
* Ultra Slick Lipstick in Pure Impulse
* Deep Shine Lip Gloss in Soft Whisper

Left is Intimate: which is a gorgeous light neutral nude taupe with just the slightest hint of shimmer
Right is Dusk: which is a deeper taupe grey with slight khaki/coffee tones

Left is Pure Impulse, Right is Soft Whisper: both are gorgeous nudes and I can’t wait to try them (huge thanks to the makeup artist at BG who recommended these two)

I haven’t tried the products yet on the face but I’ve swiped a few to play around a bit and I’m extremely pleased with the natural but high pigmented colors. I will definitely be exploring the line some more in the near future.

Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine, Painting Liner, Eyebrow Gel & Cream Shadow

September 20, 2009

Stopped by the Shu Uemura store today to try out their new Eye Brow Gel in Seal Brown and am happy to report that the new brow formula is much easier to work with than their hard formula pencil. I wouldn’t quite call these a “gel” – it’s more like a cream-powder mixture that is sheer so you can easily fill in the brows without it looking too harsh.

I have dark black-brown hair with natural red highlights and have a hard time finding a good brow product. Black is often too harsh, and it’s difficult for me to find the right shade of brown. At beauty events, Chanel makeup artists always use the Blonde Eye Brow Pencil on me – sometimes it works, other times it looks way too ashy. Shu Uemura looks deceptively pale in the photograph, but worked well on my dark brows.

I picked up a few other items as well:

* One of their new Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine Lipsticks in BG943 which is a light natural nude-pinky-peach. These have a nice glossy finish.

* Their Painting Eyeliner in Metallic Brown which is a rich deep chocolate brown with slighty plummy shimmer/sparkles.

* Cream Eyeshadow in P Brown 7a which is a neutral light taupe-fleshy shimmer. This is very sheer.

All three Shu Eye Products:
