Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Multi-Colour No. 02

May 20, 2014

This spring-summer Chanel has launched an extension of the original Les Beiges line with two new color options of Healthy Glow Multi-Colour Powder ($65 for 11g/0.39 oz, limited-edition) and five new shades of the Healthy Glow Fluid ($45 for 30 ml/1 fl oz). These launched in Europe first and I’ve been eagerly waiting for the collection’s arrival in the US. I opted for the darker powder shade Les Beiges No. 02.

The new Les Beiges Multi-Color powders come in a three-color stripe compact. Similar to the original Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Color, the new ones come in a beige and black compact with a small domed brush. No. 02 which has three luminous powder colors of a light champagne, medium tan and warmer terracotta bronze. The three shades swirled together make a perfect glowy bronze. It’s visible on my medium olive skin for a subtle contour or bronzer. Although you can probably dust all over the face for warmth I think No. 02 will be too dark for those purposes (I have yet to try the lighter color No. 01). Each stripe is also wide enough for you to fit a smaller detail brush or an eyeshadow brush if you want to use the colors individually on the eyes or for contouring. My favorite way to use this has been to simply swirl a blush brush in all the colors and apply on the face as a blush or bronzer. I find the color pigmented enough and warm enough that I can wear this alone over my powder/foundation. It also layers well with blushes or cream highlighters. I’ve found it to be extremely versatile.

If you have the other original Les Beiges colors you might be wondering if you need the new No. 02. My answer is yes. The Multi-Colour No. 02 is more pigmented and more glowy but still very natural. The regular Sheer Colour Les Beiges have less shimmer but still give that all over natural glow if you buff into the skin. I’ve used both in conjunction with each other, using the Sheer Colour Les Beiges No. 20 as an all over setting powder, then the Multi-Colour No. 02 as a contour or bronzer on top. If you have dry skin you may want to use a sheer cream highlighter or bronzer underneath to help the color adhere better. I’ll show you swatches side by side below. First some more photos and close ups.

Chanel Les Beiges No. 02 swatched individually and then blended along with Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow Fluid No. 30 (review later this week)

You can see my review on the originals Les Beiges No. 20, 30 and 40 with comparisons and swatches here and here. Comparisons between the new Multi-Colour Les Beiges No. 02 with Sheer Colour Les Beiges 20, 30 and 40 below.

For a quick overview of how I use these:

  • No. 20 is used as a regular setting powder since I found the powders to run a bit dark (I’m usually 30 in the Chanel foundation lines), I use it all over the face with a fluffy brush after foundation or tinted moisturizer, I use either the Kabuki Brush or the Touch Up Powder Brush from Chanel (any powder brush will do, I just prefer the Chanel because I find they pick up color well)
  • No. 30 and No. 40 are used for contouring, they are close in color, you don’t really need both if you’re looking for a darker natural contour see my original review for more thoughts/swatch comparisons, I use any regular blush brush to apply these
  • No. 02 is used like a regular blush or bronzer (I haven’t tried the lighter option yet, planning to visit the counter this week and see if it will actually show up on my skin, it looked very light), the compact brush is good for touch ups but on the small side, I prefer using the Touch Up Powder Brush or Blush Blush to apply this to the face

Overall love. I really didn’t know what to expect based on promotional photos. Since I already own 20, 30 and 40 I was a bit worried Chanel might have just combined already released colors into one palette. I’m happy to report they did not. Although you can get a similar effect with the darker colors of Sheer Colour Les Beiges, the new No. 02 Multi-Colour Les Beiges option has a softer texture with a much more glowy finish. There’s a bit more warmth and red in the bottom color that helps brighten the complexion (I tend to avoid terracotta for the face but this one is lovely).

The Les Beiges Healthy Glow Multi-Colour powders are listed as limited-edition for $65 each. There are two colors, No. 01 and No. 02. I’m definitely getting a back up of the No. 02.

Photo of the Day

May 20, 2014
I’ve been wearing a lot of other nail polish brands lately. YSL, Dior, Sephora Formula X, and Tom Ford have been releasing really impressive formulas lately but my heart still belongs to Chanel. Do you have any particular nail polishes you find yourself gravitating towards?
Have a happy Tuesday! (Review on Les Beiges to follow shortly.)

Chanel Tutti Frutti 621 and Mirabella 623 Le Vernis

May 11, 2014

Chanel Tutti Frutti and Mirabella Le Vernis ($27 each) are my favorite two shades out of the Reflets D’Été de Chanel Summer Collection. Tutti Frutti is a watermelon coral pink with a hint of gold shimmer and Mirabella is an orange. Both are gorgeous brights for summer. They just arrived recently at counters for spring/summer. I highly recommend both shades.

Chanel Tutti Frutti applies smoothly with full coverage. It’s the perfect mix between pink and coral. The color is bright and summery. I applied it here with two coats:

Chanel Mirabella is a vibrant orange cream. It’s a very orangey orange (if that makes sense). I usually worry about oranges making my skin look sallow, this one is warm enough that it works.

Comparisons below to Rescue Beauty Lounge Kellie Gonzo, Chanel Distraction, Guerlain A La Parisienne 263, Dior Aventure, Dior Wonderland, Dior Lucky (original version), Dior Cosmo, Dior Bikini (discontinued), Chanel Starlet, Dior Sunnies (discontinued), Chanel Lilis, Dior Tye and Dye (discontinued), Chanel Holiday, Guerlain Nahema 143 and Dior Captain.
Chanel Mirabella is closest to Dior Sunnies (Chanel is more opaque and slightly richer in coverage). Chanel Tutti Frutti is a more coral version of Dior Wonderland.

Bottom line love. I think they are both must- haves. They wear very well with around 5 days of wear without any chipping or tip wear. I usually use Deborah Lippmann Rehydrating Base Coat with Chanel Top Coat. Mirabella is listed as limited-editon while Tutti Frutti is listed as permanent. Both are available now. I purchased mine from Nordstrom.

Did you pick up anything from the summer collection? What were your favorites?

Chanel Pink Tonic 619 Le Vernis

May 11, 2014
Chanel Pink Tonic #619 Le Vernis ($27, limited-edition) is a rich deep pink rose cream. The fuchsia tones give Pink Tonic a lovely brightness without making it looking electric. Unfortunately with any flash or sunlight the color was very hard to photograph. If you have any of Chanel’s other pinks like Riviera (discontinued), Rose Exhuberant, or Rose Insolent (discontinued) note that this summer’s Pink Tonic is very similar just more pigmented, darker in color and slightly more blue.
I found it applied very smoothly without any streaks or bubbles. You do need two coats for full coverage. I wore this on the toes and on the tips (on separate occasions) and loved it.

Some comparisons swatched to Chanel May, Chanel Riviera (discontinued), Pink Tonic, Rose Insolent (discontinued), Rose Exhuberant, Dior Plaza 579 and Guerlain Champs-Elysées 165.

Pink Tonic is a lovely bright rose fuchsia pink rose perfect for summer. As with many classic pinks, it does have a similar vibe and look to other colors. The difference is very slight but it is cooler-toned and darker than most other Chanels but is still a bright shade. You many not need it if you want to avoid duplicates or similar colors but I really like it. It’s listed as limited-edition.

Loving Right Now / In Rotation

May 10, 2014

I have quite a few items in rotation now, both new and older loved items. Currently testing out the new Chanel Les Beiges No. 02 (the darker version), new Hourglass Extreme Sheen High Shine Lipglosses in Ballet (darker pink) and Canvas (nude rose), NARS Malacca Eyeshadow from the summer collection, some of the newly repackaged NARS Lipglosses in Angelika, Istria and Sweet Dreams. (Thoughts and reviews to come in the next couple weeks.)

Some summer items I’ve been loving include the new Reflets D’Été de Chanel Le Vernis colors in Mirabella and Tutti Frutti (first look here), the new Illusion d’Ombres in New Moon and Utopia are to die for (review here).
For fragrance I’ve been reaching for florals like the new Dolce by Dolce & Gabbana (review here) as well as Frederic Malle Carnal Flower.

Two classics from Caudalie and Dior: the Caudalie Divine Oil which is perfect for warm weather, it’s lightweight but moisturizing and absorbs quickly into the skin. Deborah Lippmann Cuticle Oil is a must-have for my frequent polish changes when I swatch colors (nail care essentials coming up soon), Diorskin Airflash comes highly recommended by many of my close friends (several used it at their weddings). I’ve tried it years ago and didn’t like it because I thought it was a bit heavy, but just tested it again at the counter and have decided to give it a second go.
For new stationary and organization, you must check out Garance Doré’s new stationary collaboration with Rifle Paper Co. She has so many chic adorable options from cards, notepads, note cards etc. I found her items online at Rifle Paper Co. and the online shop Garance Doré Goods.
What’s been in rotation for you this past week and weekend?

PS – The Beauty Look Book is now on Facebook, I’m working on updating my sidebar icons. Stay tuned for a giveaway in the next week!

Chanel Eastern Light 613 Le Vernis

May 8, 2014

Chanel Eastern Light #613 ($27, limited-edition) is a re-promoted shade in the Reflets D’Été de Chanel Summer Collection. It was originally released as a limited color with the Hong Kong Collection in February 2013 along with Western Light. I never reviewed it when it was released because it took me a while to track one down (mine is the original without a number on the label). If you missed out the last round, now is your chance to revisit and check it out. Eastern Light is a pure white. I had slight issues with application – it applied slightly streaky and uneven, but I was able to get full coverage with three coats. Even after a year of playing around with this shade on the fingers or on the toes, I’m undecided on how I feel about it. The white has a crisp clean sharp feel that contrasts sharply with my olive skin. I like the clean feeling it gives but it seems a bit too stark for my taste. I’ve been trying to wear it with an open mind but each time I wear it, all I really want to do is take it off immediately. Here are a couple more photos and swatches:

Swatched with three coats:

I don’t own many pure white nail polishes. I have a few limited-edition pearly whites/pale silvers. I will repost a comparison I did with Tom Ford Vapor Nail Lacquer that was released a year ago as well. As you can see below the color of Eastern Light with three coats is sharp and crisp. (All shades listed below are either discontinued or were limited-edition,)

If you’ve tried Eastern Light I’d love to hear your thoughts. If you missed out over a year ago, be sure to visit your counter soon to check it out so you can purchase/order it before it’s gone again. We all know Chanel regret can be expensive. It’s listed online as limited-edition. Online now at Nordstrom, Saks, Bloomingdales and Chanel.com.
