Sephora Spring Savings Event Lip Try On Haul Merit, Tower28, Rare Beauty, Pat McGrath Labs

Sephora has so many great brands and new spring launches. I did a major spring lip haul and put 10 different formulas to the test. I tried a little bit of everything from lip liners, lip oils, balms, liquid lips and lipsticks. If you’ve been curious about any of the newer launches here is the rundown.

Merit Shade Slick Gelee Sheer Tinted Lip Oils

Merit Shade Slick Gelee Sheer Tinted Lip Oils

Merit Shade Slick Gelee Sheer Tinted Lip Oils ($24) are brand new and these are beautiful. They’re sheer glossy lip oils that give the lips a nice fresh wash of color. Color payoff is like almost like a water color stain – natural but still noticeable. They’re super lightweight and the pigment stains the lips a little.

Below wearing and Mapleton (sheer brown berry). Also wearing:

Merit Shade Slick Gelee Sheer Tinted Lip Oil Jete

Tower 28 Lips

Tower 28 OneLiner Lip Liners and Tower 28 JuiceBalm Vegan Tinted Lip Balms

Tower 28 JuiceBalm Vegan Tinted Lip Balms ($16) are another great find. I think the shades are fun for spring to summer. These come in a twist up chubby stick form and have a natural finish, ultra hydrating feel and fun colors. I bought two in Mix (nautral nude) and Shake (juicy pink) – great swipe and go kind of lip colors.

Tower 28 JuiceBalm Vegan Tinted Lip Balm in MIX

The Tower 28 OneLiner Lip Liners ($15) have been sold out for a long time but just restocked. I think Fill Me In and Work of Art are some of the best neutral lips but better kind of shades and they have a smooth full coverage finish.

Sephora Collection

Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick ($15) in 70 First Date

Sephora Collection products are highly under-rated. Next time you’re in store definitely check out the selection of brushes, lip products and more. I recently picked up the Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick ($15) in 70 First Date and it’s the perfect creamy peachy pink. Formula is really good – opaque, smooth, doesn’t look dry and long-wearing. They’re super comfortable and I like that they also don’t dry out the lips.

The Sephora Collection Lip Liner To Go ($6) is also top notch. I had my eye on a handful of colors because they have a great range of neutrals and brown tones. I picked up 17 Light Brown and 15 Deep Beige – both of which are really great neutrals.

Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain Liquid Lipstick ($15) in 70 First Date

Too Faced

Too Faced makes the most dramatic lip plumping products and they just launched the Lip Injection Extreme Lip Shaper Plumping Lip Liner ($24). These made my lips extremely full and plump immediately. The tingle factor is probably an 9 out of 10 for me which was a little too strong. The shades are really great neutrals and if your lips can handle the tingle these really do plump the lips.

Dior Beauty

Dior Beauty makes some of the most beautiful luxury lipsticks and I hauled a few new shades of the Dior Addict Refillable Shine Lipstick ($45) and a couple of the fun Lipstick Cases ($30). 412 Dior Vibe is a nude beige and 521 Diorelita is the perfect pink mauve shade. Both have a hydrating feel, pretty shine and beautiful color payoff.

Pat McGrath Labs

If you’re looking for great wearable neutrals Pat McGrath SatinAllure Lipsticks ($30) are 100% worth the splurge. I think every single shade is beautiful – I swatched Venusian Peach, Negligee, Nude Romantique 2 and Nude Venus. The SatinAllure is a classic lipstick formula with a satin finish and full coverage.

NARS

The newest launch from NARS is the Afterglow Sensual Shine Hydrating Lipstick ($32) and these are incredible. If you like shine lipsticks definitely check these out. I picked out two shades to try the formula and will be picking up more. Breathless is a perfect beige nude and Orgasm is a stunning pink gold. Texture is very smooth – these glide onto the lips in the most comfortable way.

Rare Beauty

Last but not least the Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oils ($20) are incredible. These have a stain in the color that adheres to the lips. I love the bold shades – they’re very wearable and I think will be flattering on a wide range of skin tones. To me they are more like a stain with a hint of gloss/oil but I love them. Definitely check out a few of these during the Sephora Savings Event.

BEST PRIMERS

Best Primers Tatcha and Bobbi Brown

I’m not really a primer kind of person but these are the best ones I’ve tried. I usually prefer a moisturizer that will also double as a good base layer.

BEST FOUNDATIONS

Patrick Ta Major Skin Creme Foundation and Finishing Powder Duo

There are so many great foundation formulas with a wide range of coverage. I’ve split the foundations into sheer, medium and full:

Best Sheer-Medium Finish

Medium Coverage

Full Coverage

BEST CONCEALERS

YSL Touche Eclat Radiant Touch Concealer

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer Ginger

For concealers, I like one that is creamy, brightens and doesn’t crease. I’ll only use a full coverage concealer to spot treat.

BEST POWDERS & SETTING PRODUCTS

Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder

I’m usually a pressed powder kind of person and use the Charlotte Tilbury or NARS the most. Also found a new holy grail powder find in the loose powder category:

FAVORITE TOOLS

Hourglass Makeup Brushes

For brushes I own a wide range of tools from a number of different brands. The brushes I use the most are from Hourglass. I splurged on their Face and Eye Travel Brush Set during the last sale and love it. If you’re only looking to add a few tools I swear by the Vanish Foundation and Vanish Concealer Brushes. The Bobbi Brown Full Coverage Face Brush is another favorite. The beautyblender is also one I use all the time, no other sponge compares.

For powder I reach for Chanel and Laura Mercier the most – both of which aren’t available at Sephora, but I really like the Rare Beauty Always an Optimist Powder Brush and the Charlotte Tilbury Retractable Air Brush.

If you’re my skin twin I have a roundup of all the Foundation and Concealer shades I have worn in this FOUNDATION AND CONCEALER REFERENCE Guide.

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oils

April 11, 2023

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oils

Rare Beauty launched new glosses called the Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oils ($20) in eight shades and they’ve taken over my social media feed. I really love how they hyped this up with some really fun looking events and I think the product is truly unique. They’re available now at Sephora and today they just restocked most of the shades.

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oils

The Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oils are a gel to oil formula with a stain. They have a beveled sponge tip applicator and glide on the lips with a weightless balmy feel. Once applied the formula feels almost like it thickens into a gel finish. I think the shades are beautiful for a bold lip lover. On me I think they’re fun and different from what I normally wear, however because these are more like stains to me, the colors darken on my lips.

A lot of stains in general tend to darken or shift in color on me once they set and these definitely look darker on me compared to what I’ve seen on anyone else. Lasting power is really good with these. If you’re into lighter to medium neutrals these might be too dramatic/bold for you in which case I’d recommend checking out her Kind Words Matte Lipstick (review here) which has a lot of great lighter neutrals.

I hauled five shades:

  • Hope is a bright but lighter pink
  • Happy is a bright deeper pink
  • Wonder is a deeper pink rose
  • Serenity is a warm orange rose
  • Honesty is a brown neutral

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oils

Below I’m wearing the Rare Beauty Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer in 32N and the Always an Optimist Soft Radiance Setting Powder in Medium Light. Eyeshadow is the Natasha Denona Mini Nude Palette.

All side by side:

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oils

Since the Sephora Savings Event is right around the corner (starts this Friday for Rouge Members) I thought I’d add some more thoughts about other Rare Beauty items I’ve tried.

The Rare Beauty Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer is one of my favorite tinted moisturizers I’ve tried. Has SPF 20, offers medium natural coverage but isn’t too dewy or emollient. I really like the formula and it blends easily on the skin with a beautyblender sponge.

Rare Beauty Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer in 32N

The Always an Optimist Soft Radiance Setting Powder in Light Medium is a nice lightweight powder. After testing a wider range of formulas I’ll say this isn’t my favorite but it’s very good. I really like her Always An Optimist Powder Brush. It’s well made, fluffy and soft.

Rare Beauty Haul Picks

The Warm Wishes Effortless Bronzer sticks are some of my favorite bronzer/contour in a cream format. They glide on beautifully on the skin and I like that they are neutral-to-warm in undertone making it easier for me to wear. They are very easy to blend. I added a few more contour swatch comparisons to the LYS No Limits Cream Bronzer (another great formula), Westman Atelier Face Contour Stick and the Tower 28 Sculptino Bronzer in Getty.

Rare Beauty Warm Wishes Effortless Bronzer swatches vs Westman Atelier

The Soft Pinch Liquid Blushes are incredibly popular and as far as liquid blushes go these are some of the most pigmented shades I’ve tried. I only need one dot on each cheek to give enough color. Based on how little product you need I feel like these are going to last the rest of my life. I think the colors are really pretty and for a liquid product the lasting power is pretty good.

Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Blushes

The Positive Light Liquid Luminizers are also really beautiful. The shimmer drydown looks intense in the swatches below but they are actually really easy to blend out on the skin for a more natural less sharp look. I like Flaunt the best but the colors in the range are all stunning. I added a few other swatches next to the Charlotte Tilbury Beauty Light Wands and Anastasia Beverly Hills Highlighter Hot Sand which has a softer glow.

In case you missed it I’ve linked the Kind Words Matte Lipstick and Lip Liner review here too.

Overall I give the Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oils a solid A+ formula-wise. I think the colors are fun for a more bold vibrant lip look. The Sephora Savings Event starts on Friday and the sale access dates and code to use are as follows, use code SAVENOW to save during these dates:

Sephora Beauty Haul

In partnership with Sephora

I have a new Sephora haul roundup review for you today! There are lots of new beauty launches at Sephora I’ve put to the test this month and I’ve found some new loves! Here are 12 things I hauled this month to try and my thoughts.

Make Up For Ever launched the new HD Skin Matte Velvet Undetectable Longwear Blurring Powder Foundation and it has an overwhelming number of rave reviews so I had to investigate it to see if it lived up to the hype. I picked up 2Y20 Warm Nude and it’s a perfect match! It blurs the skin to perfection with a sponge giving full smooth coverage. I also like to use a brush to apply it as a setting powder for sheerer coverage. Lasting power is very good and I love that it does not oxidize on my skin.

Make Up For Ever HD Skin Matte Velvet Undetectable Longwear Blurring Powder Foundation

I also picked up the Make Up For Ever HD Undetectable Longwear Foundation in the same corresponding shade 2Y20. This isn’t a new formula but new to me and I give this one is a huge thumbs up too. It’s lightweight, blurs, naturally radiant, with nice natural coverage. The texture is fluid and easy to blend and work into the skin without looking or feeling heavy.

Make Up For Ever HD Undetectable Longwear Foundation

Another complexion product I picked up is the Caliray Freedreaming Clean Blurring Skin Tint in Shade 6. I’ve been looking for a natural skin tint that still has some coverage and that isn’t too dewy. It’s a skin-but-better sheer tint but still has enough coverage to even out the skin in a very natural way. It does have a dewy finish so I set with powder but I really like the way it looks and feels on the skin.

I’ve loved the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray for as long as I can remember and did not realize they had more than one formula until recently. I’ve been really impressed with the Urban Decay All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray with Vitamin C. You can use this to prep and hydrate the skin before makeup. It has an ultra fine mist dispenser to evenly spritz the face. Love this for a light veil of hydration. It also works to set the makeup too.

The new Tower 28 Sculptino Soft Matte Cream Contour + Bronzers just launched and I literally ran to my local store to pick one up. I opted for the shade in Getty which is a natural medium tan. I like that it’s a neutral-warm color which helps warm up the complexion in a flattering way. It has a creamy finish described as a soft matte and on the skin it does feel like a demi-matte but still has a dewy look to it. I’ve photographed and swatched it next to the Bronzino in West Coast for reference.

As a fan of the Danessa Myricks Yummy Skin Balm Powder I was really excited to see that she launched the Yummy Skin Blush. These are ultra pigmented balm blushes that will show up on a wide range of skin tones. I love that these are still easy to blend/sheer out easily. I picked Jubilee and Rose N Brunch to try first and really like both. I applied both shades on the lips and cheeks. They have a blurred soft matte finish with excellent lasting power on me.

Another popular item that caught my eye is the Fenty Skin Lip Plush Puddin’ Intensive Recovery Lip Mask. This has a unique twisting base to push and dispense the balm. It’s thick, hydrating and plush – I like to use this as an overnight lip mask. Softens the lips and I really love it.

Fenty Skin Lip Plush Puddin’ Intensive Recovery Lip Mask

For lip colors I picked up some new Hourglass and Anastasia Beverly Hills. A number of you asked for a review of the new Hourglass Unlocked Satin Crème Lipsticks. I picked up four to try in Tide, Alpine, Oasis and Dahlia. I am completely blown away by this formula. It just might be THE best satin lipstick formula I have ever tried. These have flawless smooth coverage and apply beautifully on the lips. They have a very soft vanilla scent. Out of the four I picked I like Oasis the best but they’re really all wearable. I will 100% need to pick up more colors.

Anastasia Beverly Hills launched new lip shades to her current lineup. I picked up one of her Lip Pencils in Muted Mauve which is a taupe mauve shade and two Lip Glosses in Sunbaked which is a mauve pink and Soft Pink which is a creamy baby pink. The glosses work well when layered on top of a pencil or lipstick for a full glossy lip look. I think the new neutral shades are really stunning.

Last is a quick look at two new hair launches. Oribe added a new product to the Hair Alchemy lineup with their new Hair Alchemy Strengthening Masque and it does not disappoint. Strengthens hair and leaves it soft and hydrated. As a huge Olaplex fan I could not wait to try the No.4D Clean Volume Detox Dry Shampoo and it’s a win for me. I really love that the product does not leave any white powder residue on the hair. Feels lightweight, adds volume, absorbs excess oil.

Sephora Fragrance for All Event Phlur, Jo Malone, Prada

Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt

Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt is my go-to. I’ve worn this one for years and love it for the unique sea salt vibe it has. It’s earthy and woody while still being fresh. This is my everyday perfume.

Notes include ambrette seeds, sea salt and sage.

Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt

Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt

Prada Paradoxe

Prada Paradoxe is a newer launch and it’s beautiful! It’s a very strong warm floral which has sweet notes. It feels like a fun date night kind of scent I think will suit a wide range of tastes. This is one of the longest lasting fragrances I’ve tried. It’s bright, deep and sweet all at the same time.

Notes include neroli bud, white amber and white musk.

Prada Paradoxe Perfume

Phlur Missing Person

Phlur Missing Person is another daily go-to for me. It’s the best floral musk that has a skin-like feel to it. Very natural, very soothing and it feels like me but better.

Notes include Skin Musk, Bergamot Nectar, Blonde Wood

Phlur Missing Person\Phlur Missing Person

Phlur Somebody Wood

Phlur Somebody Wood is another one I’ve fallen head over heels in love with. It’s a unisex scent I think would suit a wide range of tastes. It’s warm with a mix of earthy sandalwood and amber. It’s sensual and feels like a cozy hug or soft warm blanket to me. I love that it has a little bit of sweetness to balance out the amber.

Notes include sandalwood, amber and musk

Eye Makeup Sephora

Makeup By Mario Ethereal Eyes Palette

November 20, 2022

Makeup By Mario Ethereal Eyes Palette

I’m thrilled to see more neutral eyeshadow colors out this year and I love the new Makeup By Mario Ethereal Eyes Eyeshadow Palette ($68, available at Sephora and Makeup By Mario). It has 12 new shades with a mix of mattes, sparkly toppers and one finely milled shimmer.

I like a good sparkle topper and think the sparkles work well when applied with fingers in a patting motion. I did experience a lot of sparkle fall out when applying it but it’s easy to clean up and throughout the day I didn’t have much fall out after.

The mattes are super smooth, easy to blend, pigmented and I love every single color. There’s one shimmer shade which is a dark brown with silver and brown toned shimmers. I think it makes for a nice soft smokey eye. All that said I don’t think this palette is for everyone. The shimmers are pretty sparkly. If you’re more into the finely milled shimmer vs micro sparkle, definitely opt for the Natasha Denona Glam Palette instead (reviewed here).

Mattes include a soft creamy shade, soft warm beige, matte brown, matte grey, matte rose, soft cool brown and a deeper brown. Sparkles include a glittery champagne, a soft silvery rose sparkle, a glitzy pale gold, a sparkling taupe. The smooth shimmer is a deep brown taupe.

MoistureGlow Plumping Lip Serums

I also wanted to include a look at all of the MoistureGlow Plumping Lip Serums I have. I’ve accumulated nearly all of the shades since I’m a lip balm lover. These have a subtle plumping effect and a cooling sensation. There’s no tingle on me. I already have full lips and didn’t notice added plumpness from these like I do with the Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip Plump or Dior Addict Lip Maximizers.

Pigment is medium on most of these shades. They have a really soft texture – they almost feel like they’ve melted when you apply them on the lips. A lot of times they feel so soft I have to use a lip brush to apply and blend – but it’s not a deal breaker for me.

These are similar to the Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip Balms & Juicy Plump (in my opinion). Colors are really flattering in both lines. Formula is nice and glossy. I think the Tarte ones stay put on the lips slightly longer because the texture isn’t as soft. I have a slight preference for the Tarte balms because of the packaging and slim applicator style. The Tarte balms blend better without a brush. But both are still very good.

Swatches of all the colors I own:

  • Bare Glow is a neutral peachy pink with subtle shimmer
  • Apricot Glow is a warm soft peach with shimmer
  • Rose Glow (my favorite) is a flattering soft pink with shimmer
  • Bronze Glow is a neutral warm brown with a bit of shimmer
  • Mauve Glow is a neutral mauve pink brown with shimmer
  • Plum Glow is a plum with silver shimmer
  • Nude Glow is a sheer pale beige
  • Rosewood Glow is a medium neutral-cool rose mauve
  • Petal Glow is a pale muted pink
  • Blush Glow is a slightly deeper/warmer version of Petal Glow
  • Honey Glow is a honey brown
  • Cinnamon Glow is a deeper pink brown cinnamon color

MoistureGlow Plumping Lip Serum swatches

I swatched a few on the lips for you, out of all the colors I’d say my favorites are Rosewood Glow and Rose Glow.

MoistureGlow Plumping Lip Serum Rose Glow

MoistureGlow Plumping Lip Serum Blush Glow

MoistureGlow Plumping Lip Serum Apricot Glow

MoistureGlow Plumping Lip Serum Mauve Glow

Overall I love the new palette. I think I’ll get a lot of wear and use out of this one. As much as I love neutrals, I’ve found this year I actually prefer neutral-warm tones like the Patrick Ta Major Dimension Palette, Too Faced Natural Nudes and Too Faced Sunset Strip palettes.

That being said I’m happy to see more variation in eye palette tones. Have you checked this one out? What did you think about the shimmers? Right up your alley? Or too much? Would love to hear your thoughts!

I’ve linked the other makeup I’m wearing below too:

Natasha Denona My Dream Collection Swatches + Review

November 7, 2022

Natasha Denona My Dream Palette Collection

Natasha Denona continues to be one of the best makeup lines for beautiful innovative palettes and colors. I love that she brings us so many beautiful unique launches – so much thought and care goes into her creations. Her new My Dream Collection has beautiful tones and textures. Today I have some swatches and a review of the items. Today’s the last day of the Sephora Holiday Savings event. If you’re looking for makeup that’s new (rather than repeats) definitely check her collection out.

I have swatches and a review but didn’t have time to shoot makeup looks for this launch. I still wanted to get the swatches up for you. I put up a poll on my Instagram stories and even though this collection launched weeks ago most of you still wanted swatches.

Natasha Denona My Dream Palette Collection

My Dream Eyeshadow Palette

Natasha Denona My Dream Palette

The Natasha Denona My Dream Eyeshadow Palette ($69) is absolutely stunning. I think it’s one of the best most unique palettes of the year. I’ve played with this a few times and you can create a wide range of looks. Every single shade applies beautifully. I love that she always has a great mix of textures: mattes, shimmers, sparkles, duo chromes. Some of her palettes are a little too trendy for my personal style. This one is on trend but has a good mix of colors that even conservative makeup lovers can wear it.

The palette has 13 new shades and 2 repromotes:

  • Famila is a warm dark brown
  • Babies is a stunning metallic mauve sparkle
  • Carpe-Diem is a warm matte brown
  • Serenity is a smooth shimmery taupe
  • Aspiration is a matte ultra deep cool brown
  • Blackest Black is a matte black
  • Instinct is a magenta satin
  • Thrill is a sparkling champagne
  • Unity is a matte warm terracotta peach
  • Risk is a beautiful smooth metallic reddish plum
  • Invention is a sparkle topper with a orange bronze finish
  • Vision is a duochrome violet green pink nude
  • Edgy is a purple eggplant satin
  • Spontaneous is a shimmering champagne
  • Nurture is a matte cool brown

Natasha Denona My Dream Palette swatches

Colors layer beautifully. Combinations are endless. Color range is amazing with light shades, medium shades, deep shades, bold pops. Absolutely love.

My Dream Cheek Trio

Natasha Denona My Dream Cheek Trio

Natasha Denona’s My Dream Cheek Trio ($48) is a beautiful palette I think will suit a wide range of skin tones. It has a Cream Blush which is a dusty neutral-cool pink (has a velvety finish), Glow Cream Base (shimmery creamy nude that melts into the skin, has fine shimmer) and Dream Glow Highlighter (another shimmery champagne, gel to powder finish). I think all three are beautiful and very easy to wear. The highlighters have a very similar vibe to her other cheek products. I still think this is a beautiful one you can wear this holiday for a polished effortless look.

Natasha Denona My Dream Cheek Trio

Colors apply beautifully and have very good pigment. They’re easy to layer and blend. They don’t emphasize my pores or skin texture. Love that the highlighters can also be used on the eyes.

My Dream Lipstick, Lip Gloss, Lip Pencil

Natasha Denona My Dream Lipstick, Lip Gloss and Lip Pencil

The last three items I have swatched are for the lips. My Dream Lipstick ($27) is a neutral cool mauve pink that’s super creamy and opaque. My Dream Lip Gloss ($27) has a beautiful smooth texture in a neutral mauve pink with medium coverage and a tiny bit of shimmer. My Dream Lip Crayon ($24) is an ultra pigmented long-wear lip pencil in a nude mauve color.

Natasha Denona My Dream Collection Lip swatches

Texture and pigment-wise all three are beautiful and excellent in quality. Unfortunately the colors did not work on my medium olive complexion. They have a bit too much grey undertone to work for my pigmented lips and tan skin. I think these would be super flattering on cool skin tones or light-fair complexions.

Overall a beautiful collection with lots to love. Out of all her palettes my favorites are still her Glam and Biba Palettes. The new My Dream Collection Palette is truly unique though so if you’re one looking for something new and innovative, this is the palette to try.

I have a quick roundup of what I hauled from the Sephora sale below. You can click on each item to shop directly from Sephora if you’re interested! I also bought this Hourglass Brush Set (not featured in the collage).

Did you shop the Sephora sale? What are you the most excited about?
