Best Chic Makeup Bags | The Beauty Look Book

By popular request I’m doing an updated roundup of my favorite makeup bags. A number of you wanted a comparison between a few brands like The Daily Edited and Cuyana so after having tested several styles I have a review for you today! Many of these can double as travel bags – I have a separate article on travel packing and travel makeup bags you can read here. You can always click on my Packing Tips tag as well to see what I was able to fit in different cases on various trips. Today’s post focuses more on makeup bags for the purse, to organize essentials at home or day trips rather than travel.

Best Makeup Bags, Ikea Billy Bookshelf, Daily Edited, Cuyana | The Beauty Look Book

The Daily Edited

The Daily Edited is a line I’ve used since 2017 and I think they have great products! The large cosmetic cases in Black and Taupe have held up really well since I bought them back in 2017. I’ve used them during moves, while traveling across country and on numerous vacations (see what I packed for a San Francisco trip here). Right now my two favorites from the brand are the Large Cosmetic Case and the Clear Cosmetic Case. I order these directly from their website and shipping is usually very fast.

The Daily Edited Large Cosmetic Case

TDE The Daily Edited Large Cosmetic Bag Taupe | The Beauty Look Book

The Daily Edited Large Cosmetic Case Review | The Beauty Look Book

The Daily Edited Large Cosmetic Case $100 – I have this style in two colors, Taupe and Black. I love that you can customize the monogram with different styles of fonts or icons! I opted for the blind embossing for a more subtle look with these but love the gold lettering too. The large size has a really wide base which makes it sturdy to stand up on its own without tipping over. It has one large open interior compartment inside. I like this style (versus having pockets) because you can fit more inside.

  • Made of saffiano leather, fabric lining large open interior
  • Measures 5.3″ high, 8.9″ wide and 4.3″ deep
  • Also available in a small size and duo set of small + large

The Daily Edited Clear Cosmetic Case

Best Clear Makeup Bag Beauty Blog Review

The Daily Edited Clear Cosmetic Case $60 is another favorite. This is smaller than the Large Cosmetic Case and is clear so you can see everything inside. I like that it’s smaller so it is easier to carry around in a tote. The PVC is easy to clean (I like to use Novus Plastic Clean). They make a flat clear pouch too but seem to be frequently sold out of the colors. You can see a side by side of the cosmetic vs flat pouch in this post here.

  • Made of clear PVC, leather bottom/edging
  • Measures 4″ high, 8″ wide, 2″ deep

Cuyana

So many of you have asked for more reviews on Cuyana bags. I think they make beautiful classic staples that will last a long time. Before I ordered my first item I didn’t think they would live up to the hype or be worth the price. However after buying several pieces I’ve fallen in love with the simple and minimalist designs! They’re well made and functional. The overall composition of the Cuyana bags is thicker than The Daily Edited. Shape, designs, material and sizes are also different. I cannot say that one is better than the other, they’re both different and special in their own ways.

Cuyana Travel Case Duo Makeup Bag | The Beauty Look Book

Cuyana Leather Travel Case Set

Cuyana Travel Set Black Makeup Bag

Cuyana Leather Travel Case Set $120 (additional for monogram) – This is the set so many of you asked me to review. I like it a lot more than I expected to – I actually love it. The leather is thick and sturdy, I love the lining which is easy to wipe clean. The small one is perfect for on-the-go and the large one is nice for travel or larger bottles. I opted for the smaller font monogram but wish I had picked the larger option. (All sales are final for monogram pieces so I couldn’t exchange it.) Also a part of me wishes the monogram feature was included in the price like The Daily Edited, but I’m still happy with my purchase.

  • Made of a thick durable pebbled leather
  • Microsuede interior, large one has a flat pocket inside, small is open without a pocket
  • Large case measures 12″ wide, 7″ tall, 3.5″ deep
  • Small case measures 8″ wide, 5″ tall, 2.5″ deep

Cuyana Vanity Case and Tech Case

Cuyana Vanity Case and Tech Case

Two additional items I have are the Cuyana Vanity Case $95 and Tech Case $65. These are available individually and made of the same material as the Travel Case Duo. I’ve actually featured the Vanity Case in the Ecru color before but it seems they’ve recently updated it so it no longer has an exterior pocket and pouch. The Blush featured above is the current version. I like the Tech Case as a makeup bag but it’s also really nice to carry cords, chargers etc because of the compact size.

Vanity Case $95

  • Measures 9.5″ wide, 5.5″ tall, 3.38″ deep
  • Interior flat patch pocket

Truffle

Truffle Clear Makeup Bags

Long time readers know I’m a huge fan of the Truffle Clarity Jetset $88 and the Clarity Clutch Mini $40. Both are great for travel or for packing up essentials on-the-go. Having a clear pouch makes it easier to see everything inside so there’s not as much digging around trying to find things. The jetset option is compact enough to fit inside a medium tote or beach bag. The flat clutches won’t hold as much since they’re flat but it’s perfect for holding a few essential items and keeping things more compact/organized.

There are other variations and sizes available for travel. You can see other Truffle options I’ve used for travel in this post here.

Luxury Splurge: Dior

Dior Oblique Pouch | The Beauty Look Book

Dior Oblique Pouch Navy | The Beauty Look Book

Last two are splurge items! I bought the Dior Oblique Jacquard Pouch in the blue variation and I love it! It’s made of a canvas material and has an interior pocket for cards if you want it to double as a clutch. It’s relatively small and petite so I can use it either as a super fancy makeup pouch or clutch. It measures 15 cm high by 19 cm tall and 5 cm deep. For reference I believe it’s similar in sizing to the Louis Vuitton Toiletry Case 19. This was more of a recent splurge purchase so I haven’t had a chance to use it very much but I love the print and think it’s just so beautiful!

Luxury Splurge: Hermes

Hermes Bain New Yachting case, small model

The last splurge I want to share is a flat canvas pouch. I ordered the Hermes Bain New Yachting Case in the small size in Navy and Red (one for Andrew, one for me). They’re approximately 9″ wide by 6 inches tall, flat, made of canvas and perfect to carry small on-the-go things like a mini camera, small sunscreen, lip balm, mini perfume etc. It’s made of cotton canvas so I don’t know how long it will stay clean or last but I thought they were so cute!

Leather Care

Coach Leather Cleaner + Moisturizer, Cuyana Leather Cleaner

I don’t usually use any product to treat or clean my leather goods, but I just started looking for some cleaners and moisturizers. Three options I’ve tried on a few makeup bags are from Coach and Cuyana – I really like the Coach set. I also tried the Cuyana Cleaner and it worked well to clean up small makeup smudges I had on the exterior of a few bags. I haven’t put them to an extensive test yet but plan on using them more. Many years ago I used to use Apple Guard and remember liking it but haven’t repurchased in a long time.

I had a recent mishap and accidentally splashed some nail polish remover on a leather wallet. Even though I wiped it immediately it still left some marks and made the leather look dried out with a slight white cast. After some research I decided to try the Coach Leather Moisturizer on it and thankfully it restored it back to normal! If you have any that you love let me know in the comments.

That wraps up my current favorite makeup bag roundup! Hope you found it helpful. Out of all the ones I own I can’t pick a favorite. I think the quality and look of the Cuyana bags are the most luxe with the thick pebbled leather, but I also love how durable and sturdy the saffiano is with The Daily Edited.

Do you have a favorite makeup bag or bags? Let me know in the comments!

Skincare Sets

For the skincare lover they have quite a few Abeille Royale Skincare Sets this year. If you love the Watery Youth Oil they have it in multiple sets, some come with cute makeup bags. The Honey Care Ritual Set ($195) has a full-size oil along with a small Abeille Royale Eye Cream and KissKiss Bee Balm in 258 Rose Glow (a pretty pink). This one comes in a boxed set.

Perfume Discovery Sets

Guerlain L'Art & La Matiere The Perfumer's Floral Harmony Set

I love perfume discovery sets and I think they make great gifts. They’re the perfect way to try on different scents at your own pace at home.

This year they have a few different perfume discovery sets for their L’Art and La Matiere perfume line. I bought one a few years ago and I absolutely loved it. I ended up splitting the set up among friends to try and sample. Guerlain perfumes are among the best in terms of quality and lasting power with a unique mix of options.

Guerlain L'Art & La Matiere The Perfumer's Floral Harmony Set

above: Floral Harmony Perfumer’s Set

They launched their Perfumer’s Set in two variations: the Iconic Harmony and Floral Harmony ($380 each). A lot of you have been asking for recommendations on floral perfumes and the Floral Harmony Set is a beautiful option to try and find your perfect floral. The set contains Neroli Outrenoir, Musc Outreblanc, Rose Cherie, Rose Barbare, Cruel Gardenia, Angelique Noire, Herbes Troublantes, Joyeuse Tuberuse.

I’ve already found 2 that I have on my wishlist for my next splurge. I’ve tried Musc Outreblanc a few times and love it for the soft clean skin like musk scent that has long lasting power. The Neroli Outrenoir and Herbes Troublantes are also both beautiful.

Guerlain L'Art & La Matiere The Perfumer's Floral Harmony Set

If you like a more diverse range of notes the Iconic Harmony is a great option. It has their Spiritueuse Double Vanille (one of the best vanillas I’ve tried) along with some of their other classics. It also has that Musc Outreblanc I love.

Their Hive of Wonders Advent Calendar ($720) is one of the most beautiful advent calendars out there. It has a mix of perfumes, mini candles, soaps, skincare and a few other things. All boxed up in a super chic bee hive. If you’re looking for the ULTIMATE splurge gift for the beauty lover, I can’t think of anything more luxurious than one these advent calendar gifts.

Perfume and Scented Options

The L’Art and La Matiere collection is absolutely beautiful. In my years of trying fragrances, I feel like there are few perfume lines that feel as luxurious as Guerlain’s. When you smell the line you can really tell the difference in quality of ingredients and the throw/ lasting power is very VERY good.

Guerlain Les Matieres Confidentielles Eau de Coton

I’ve been really curious about the Les Matieres Confidentielles line of Eau de Toilettes and my first experience is Eau de Coton ($180). It’s a fresh powdery velvety citrus. There is a hint of soft musk. I think it’s going to make a nice layering scent. On it’s own it smells like fresh cotton with a soft and airy feel. Notes include orange blossom, almond, musk.

Guerlain Figue Azur Scented Diffuser

Guerlain also has a full line of candles and diffusers. I know buying scents blind can be tricky but the Figue Azur Scented Diffuser ($130) is the most exquisite fig scent I’ve ever smelled. It’s sweet, fresh and green in a bright way. The throw on this diffuser is very strong. This one is quite the splurge but if you’re looking for a diffuser that will fill the entire room and one that looks beautiful too, this is something I think you will really love. I have my eye on one of the candles to try, Palais D’Orangers or Figue Azur both sound beautiful. (Candles are refillable.)

Holiday Gift Ideas from Guerlain

Available at Guerlain. There is still time for last minute gifts as they are offering complimentary express shipping on all orders now through 12/21 and also offering a 4-piece Abeille Royale Gift Set on orders $200+ with code HOLIDAY2023 (while supplies last).

If you’re looking for some last minute gifts I hope you found this roundup helpful!

Holiday Gift Ideas for Him

hoodie / sweatshirt / vest / baseball hat / ear buds / travel bag / manicure kit / creed discovery set / creed leather bag / lip balm set / navy travel case / beanie / body wash trio / manscaped tool / refillable fragrance atomizers / electric face shaver / body shaver

Christmas is only a couple weeks away and if you’re looking for last minute gift ideas for the guys I’ve rounded up some of Andrew’s grooming favorites and things I am gifting him this year.

So many of you have asked for tips and ideas on how to get the guys in your life to up their grooming game. I highly recommend looking at the gift sets from Jack Black and Kiehl’s. I am so glad Andrew is a well-groomed man and has been since I met him when we were in our 20s!

My number one tip is to buy him a few simple sets with multi-taskers and replace (or rather REMOVE) his bar soap from the shower and put the sets front and center on the counter, near the shower or bath – pretty much right in front of him.

The Jack Black Turbo Wash is the best thing I think you can gift any guy in your life. They can use it on hair and body, so it’s two in one. Andrew uses it to wash his face too. (I actually borrow Andrew’s all the time because it’s the best at removing sunscreen.) Love this Body Best Sellers Set – Andrew picked it up during our travels so he could use them during our trip.

They have tons of body care sets, shaving sets, sets with a little bit of everything. Andrew has tried almost everything from the line. Even the lip balms. He also likes the Deep Dive Glycolic Facial Cleanser (doubles as a mask), Supreme Clean Shaving Cream and moisturizer – all found in the Carry On Essentials Set ($30).

Kiehl’s also has great products for the guys. The Energizing Essentials Kit is a great place to start and they have a bar soap that exfoliates too (it’s not your average bar soap).

For grooming tools I bought Andrew his own cuticle nail care set from Zwilling several years ago and he uses it all the time. I love the look of this one from Zwilling for travel (I just ordered it for him). He’s tried a lot of shaving tools and really loves the Braun Body Groomer. For an electric face shaver he really likes the Braun Electric Series 3 Razor. He also has used and likes the Manscaped Lawn Mower 4.0.

I know cologne and fragrance can be very personal but Creed makes some great discovery sets and in my opinion they make the best of the best. They have several different variations like the 3-piece discovery set or 5-piece discovery set. Andrew has a blue refillable atomizer which he really loves and brings with him every trip we go on. I just ordered him a grey one (new color) because he likes to wear a few different scents so now he will have two. His favorite scent is Aventus.

For clothes we’ve been really impressed with Vuori. The quality is great, styles are modern and the fit/cuts are very good and they’re comfortable without looking too casual. What Andrew likes the best about their tops and sweatshirts is they hold their shape really well, even during workouts and with sweat. We were able to see everything in person at the Vuori store in Miami. They have a lot of things on sale on their site right now. He loves the Tradewind Performance Tee. The Strato Tech Tee is super soft (I wish they made it in women’s sizes). He also bought some hoodies and joggers.

A few other fun gift ideas include dopp kits or travel bags from Away. I’ve bought Andrew so many travel cases over the years. He says the best one is the Away Large Toiletry Bag and it’s the one he’s been using on our trips. We’ve had the Everywhere Bag for several years now and we both use ours to this day. They’ve added other sizes and styles to pick from.

We saw some new leather goods at the Creed Boutique in Miami and they are quite the splurge but Andrew fell in love with the small case. I’m ordering it for him for Christmas.

If you’re looking for gift ideas for the guys in your life I hope you found this roundup helpful! I think any of these would suit a wide range of ages and styles.

Mirror / VBB set / Luxe Lip Balms / Cream Shadow Set / Byredo trio / Nude Palette / Westman Set / Hourglass Palette / Lip Trio / Mini NARS Blushes / 5-pan palette / Lip Serum / Brush Set

Lots of beautiful sets this year! The most practical beauty item I have that I use nearly every single day is the Riki Loves Riki Glamcor Mirror. I own several different sizes and the Skinny is the most practical (they’re having a pretty good Black Friday sale too).

This brush set is the best brush set I’ve splurged on. Also love the I Need a Nude Eyeshadow Palette and Westman Atelier Sets this holiday.

For the girl who has everything I recommend checking out Victoria Beckham Beauty or Byredo. They have tons of exclusive sets and newer launches you can’t find anywhere else.

If you’re looking for a more unique gift I highly recommend checking out Mizensir or Phlur. Both are relatively newer brands.

This year Byredo has a sampler trio you can customize. There are lots of different fragrance sampler sets to pick from online.

The Cuyana Travel Set is 100% worth the splurge. You can add a monogram to it. Quality is on point and I’ve had my sets for years. Also think Stoney Clover Lane has super cute customizable options (pricey but cute!).

Luxe Gifts for Her

The Lululemon Scuba sweatshirts are among my favorites. Naghedi bags are so chic and versatile. I think virtually anyone would love to have one. I’ve gifted a few and they have been well loved (and easy to clean/maintain).

If you’re looking to splurge and gift something with the ULTIMATE WOW FACTOR an Advent Calendar is a generous way to go. I unboxed the Sisley Advent Calendar they gifted this year and it is absolutely stunning!

I bought a few food ones this year. I buy the Bonne Maman Jelly Calendars every year since Andrew is the ultimate jelly lover. I’ve gifted them to my niece and nephew before too and they loved it. This year I decided to order the Laduree Advent Calendar but have not yet opened it.

Best Candles for Fall from Diptyque, Byredo, Jo Malone

It’s been a while since I’ve done an Ask Me Anything roundup! The months flew by since the summer. It feels like time is passing by so fast and I feel like we will blink and it will be the new year. Here’s what you’ve been asking lately!

1. How are the moving plans coming along? Moving still? Are you staying in Florida? Are we staying here indefinitely? Where would you move if not California or Florida?

This is the number one question I’ve received from everyone. The move to Miami is still on! Life just got very hectic with life things. It has been a challenging year for us but Andrew and I are powering through it. We had hoped we would be in Miami by now, but things don’t always go as planned and we are rolling with it. The plan is to move in the early new year.

2. Are you getting another puppy for Ollie?

Calvin and Ollie

The second most asked question is about another dog. So many of you are doodle lovers and send me videos of doodle puppies, your pets (doodles, ragdolls, and more) and I LOVE IT!!!

We really want another dog for Ollie to have a buddy. He does play with the kitty and they like to chase each other around the house but kitty is 11 so his energy level isn’t the same.

Our two Jack Russells were with us for 14 and 17 years. We got them in our early 20s and while I loved them SOOO soooo much, I’m not going to lie, it was a lot of work and it limited what we could do (ie travel, where we could live, etc). They were so nuts I had to walk them separately.

Right now it’s manageable with one dog because Ollie had good training and is very well behaved. We are not sure we can handle two. We will see though!

3. Best decluttering advice for large makeup collections? Do you ever get overwhelmed?

Beauty Lookbook Shelfie

I don’t have the best answer since beauty is my job. I go through a lot more product than the average beauty lover. Yes of course it’s overwhelming but I’ve been a lot more selective these days about what I review, purchase or accept. I used to post a new review 5x per week. These days it’s more like 2x per week, sometimes 3x.

The best decluttering advice I can think of is to use up what you have before you buy anything new. Unfortunately sometimes it’s impossible to use everything up before the expiration date. If you have things that haven’t been contaminated like a dry shampoo bottle, perfume – I recommend gifting to friends or family. Donating is always an option but a lot of times what they’ll accept is limited to new products only.

I know a lot of people use the 2 out 1 in kind of rule. So before they buy anything new, use up 2 things completely before you buy.

4. Favorite designer/luxury brand for purses? Next splurge on my wishlist?

I would say my top 3 favorite lines are Loewe, Celine and Chanel. I’ve been eyeing the Loewe Compact Hammock, Small Puzzle Edge and a few things from Bottega, but I’m at a point where I need to declutter my current collection. There are maybe seven or so bags/wallets I haven’t used in months that I want to sell. I’m debating whether to use a consignment company or do another blog sale.

5. How long did it take for me to become a full-time influencer? What has been your career journey? What’s next? Do you ever miss your corporate job?

Glowing Skin Makeup look featuring Hourglass, Fenty, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Charlotte Tilbury and more from Sephora

Lots of questions about my blogging/influencer journey! I’ve done quite a few posts in the past on what I did before I started blogging full-time. Quick version is my background is in finance. I’ve worked in lots of different industries. The last industry I worked in was commercial aerospace.

I started my blog as a hobby while I was in grad school at the age of 27 and wrote something almost everyday for about 5 years before I even knew I could make it a career. I didn’t know anything about blogging as a career and I was rarely ever sent any press samples. Around 4-5 years into it, another blogger told me about affiliate marketing, helped me get approved into a network and by that time I had a loyal enough following and enough traffic to my site that my blog started converting day 1.

My blog grew quickly and so did the earnings. Blogging was taking so much time and soon it exceeded my corporate salary at which point I took a huge risk and decided to leave the corporate world and blog full time. I was so nervous about it. I had confided in maybe 10 close friends and family about this new venture and 8 out of 10 told me not to do it. Nearly everyone told me I was crazy so I decided to just do it any not tell anyone for a while (except for those 10). I didn’t even tell my company or work colleagues where I was going or what I was doing (only 2 from work knew and they kept my secret). I don’t think I told my dad about leaving my corporate job until maybe 1 year later because I knew he would be SO worried and would be obsessively asking me for updates on a daily basis “how is your business doing” or “did you write a business plan?” or “are you sure you are ok?” and “can you ask for your old job back?” and “do you want to come work for me?”.

All this could have been something that did not work out. But here we are nearly 10 years later and I have zero regrets. I don’t miss the corporate life at all – there was lots of high stress, corporate politics, endless meetings, always worrying about what would happen if you were laid off or if management changed. There is still work stress in life, but the type of stress is different. I think all the years of working for different companies and people were very valuable to me.

What’s next? I have no idea! I’ve never been the kind of person who had an answer to the question “where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?” For those who keep asking why I’m not on YouTube, I would love to be. I just need to do it. But shooting and editing video content is not easy. If I were to do YouTube I feel like I would have to drop this blog or social media or hire someone to help manage/edit.

6. Can you do a follow-up on meal prep/meal plans?

Ahh yes. I had planned to do an entire review on this. Andrew and I have tried so many meal prep plans. We’ve tried pre-made meals, meal plans that you prepare on your own (ie everything is measured), our own meal prep recipes. We have yet to find a plan we love and do not get tired of.

The plans where you make on your own like Blue Apron or Hello Fresh ended up taking too much time. They may have gotten better over the years but when we tried it (this was when were in San Diego, so maybe 10 years ago) the recipes weren’t easy and they did not save us a lot of time.

Finding a good plan to fit your diet needs can be hard. There are tons of “healthy” options that don’t taste great. As a picky eater I need it to taste good for me to stick with it. We’ve tried some premade ready to eat meals and there are some really good. The problem is the quality hasn’t always been consistent (sometimes they go bad before the expiration date) and although they have different types of foods and meals, eating them day after day gets really boring. Some we have tried and like:

Factor
Cook Unity
Epicured
Fit Life Foods (this might just be local to Tampa)

We did not like Sakara Life although I know it’s super popular. Right now we are back to cooking meals ourselves or going out to eat. I’ll make eggs for breakfast and we’ll add a piece of avocado, toast or sausage. I love cottage cheese + a little bit of jelly or granola for breakfast. I’ve been into making smoothies again. We’ve been on a Jersey Mikes kick for lunches. For dinners I usually do something simple like something from Trader Joes plus lots of fresh steamed vegetables.

The easiest meal prep I’ve done is making a huge batch of ground chicken meatballs + steamed vegetables for the week (you can also use ground turkey). There are tons of great recipes online, I like the Honey Sriracha Glazed Meatballs. I’ve tried a few recipes and love this one.

7. Personal questions: How old are you? Height? Plans for kids? What does your husband do? How long did you date before you two got married?

Cavapoo Puppy 12 Weeks Ollie

I’m 42 and 5’3” tall. No plans for kids (just more fur babies maybe). Andrew is an attorney. We dated for 7 years before we got married. I sometimes say 7 years minus 3 months (haha) because we broke up once very early on for a short time.

8. Any traveling plans this holiday?

We are not sure. Back in August we had plans to go back to California for a month and then travel all holiday. Work (and life) suddenly became very busy for both of us and we just haven’t had time. We might do another trip over Christmas like we did last year.

9. What are your winter skincare must-haves for mature skin?

Winter Skincare Favorites La Mer, Sunday Riley, Prequel, Bobbi Brown

This is the first winter my skin has felt extra dry and sensitive (due to dryness). Florida is a lot more humid than other places, but we haven’t gotten a lot of rain in our area and everything SO dry. I’ve had to use my rich creams, more hand cream, Vaseline etc. My skin is definitely maturing but I think skincare recommendations depend more on type vs age.

My top favorites right now though:

Prequel Barrier Therapy Skin Protectant for Face and Body has been great for skin flare ups. I had some terrible eczema flare-ups on my hands a couple weeks ago (to the point I couldn’t sleep it was so painful). This helped tremendously.

Chanel L’Huile Vanille Body Massage Oil is my favorite body oil. It’s so big it feels like it will last forever. Very expensive but 100% worth the splurge.

La Mer Moisturizing Soft Cream is my go-to for moisturizer. For something richer I’ve really been loving the Augustinus Bader The Rich Cream or Biossance Squalane+ Vitamin C Rose Firming Oil. I just started testing out the Caudalie Premier Cru The Rich Cream and it’s SO LUXURIOUS (also available in this trio set). It’s a bit rich for my skin type but very hydrating and has a lovely texture, I might try the Premier Cru The Cream version.

Vaseline Cocoa Butter for lips is one of the best things you can buy for lip hydration. The only thing I don’t like is how it’s packaged, but it’s so thick I don’t think it would work in a squeeze tube format. The Sugar Cookie flavor for holiday is super fun too.

I also really love the Bobbi Brown Extra Plump Lip Serum (on sale for 30% off at Ulta Beauty right now). The plumping is minimal and not super strong (no tingle) – it’s more of a subtle plumping with a smoothing effect and really nice hydration. I’m on my 3rd tube and am going to stock up on a few while it’s on sale.

Even if your skin is dry I still think you need to do some kind of exfoliation or acid treatment. I swear by the Sunday Riley Good Genes 1-2x per week.

10. Best beauty splurge you’ve ever made, you can only pick 1 thing.

Dyson Airwrap Styler

This is a tough one! I think the best beauty item I own is the Dyson Airwrap (original version). This was a gift from Andrew. A couple years ago he asked me what one thing I wanted but wouldn’t buy for myself and this was it. I didn’t want to buy it because I had already splurged on the Supersonic a few years before. I use the Airwrap nearly every single day.

But to pick the best beauty splurge I bought with my own money … I really can’t pick JUST one thing. I would have to say three-way tie between the Hourglass Face and Eye Travel Brush Set, La Mer Treatment Lotion Sheet Masks and a large outdoor 5-wick candle I bought from Diptyque.

That wraps up this week’s Ask Sabrina series!

Chanel Highlighters

Les Symboles de Chanel Highlighters for Holiday

Les Symboles de Chanel Highlighters for Holiday

This holiday Chanel launched stunning Oversize Illuminating Face Powders ($95 each) in their Les Symboles de Chanel collection. There are five stunning embossed patterns to choose from and each symbol has a special meaning for Chanel: The Lion (strength), The Comet (luck), The Camellia (harmony), The Chain (style) and The Pearls (radiance).

There are three colors to choose from each design: Pearly White, Warm Gold and Precious Coral.

Pearly White

Pearly White is a glittery sparkling white. It has more glitter than most Chanel highlighters. Fun for holiday parties but VERY glittery. To my eye looks nearly identical to the sparkling bottom half of the Duo Lumiere from the Holiday 2023 collection. If I had to pick one I would opt for the Duo Lumiere because the color in the top portion is SO stunning.

Warm Gold

Warm Gold is the perfect shade of warm gold. A little peachy, tiny bits of microsparkles (but not full on glitter) make this beautiful. There is another highlighter in the Poudre Lumiere formula called Warm Gold but the Warm Gold color in Les Symboles de Chanel is different. Noticeably different to justify owning both in my opinion. The holiday version is deeper, more golden and more sparkly/luminous.

Precious Coral

Precious Coral is my favorite. It’s a beautiful light coral with the most perfect soft sheen to it. I want this shade in literally everything – tops, bags, lipstick, gloss, eyeshadow etc. I think it’s the prettiest color I think I’ve ever seen.

Les Symboles de Chanel Highlighters for Holiday

Overall beautiful and luminous. I collect Chanel highlighters so these were a must for me. I would have loved if the Pearly White were more of a smooth shimmer vs a glitter, but I still think it’s fun for holiday. My favorite is the Precious Coral although the Warm Gold is a very pretty flattering gold shade. It’s hard to pick a favorite pattern. I think they’re all beautiful but I think the Comet and Camellia are my favorites.

August Favorites

August Beauty Favorites

Rounding up my August favorites this month! I have a mix of makeup, skin care, fragrance, body care and accessories I’ve been loving.

Givenchy Beauty

Givenchy Beauty loves Prisme Libre

I’ve slowly been trying more from Givenchy and have to say I’m obsessed. I think the Prisme Libre Concealer is one of the best concealers I’ve tried. I wear Shade C305 in the concealer and it’s creamy, easy to blend, has great coverage, doesn’t crease or cake. Love that it has the perfect consistency – not too creamy but not too matte.

The Prisme Libre Loose Setting Powder is also pure love. It sets foundation/concealer so nicely with a natural blurred effect. Based on the color descriptions I first tried 4 Mousseline Acidulee for medium skin tones which has green and lilac powders for color correcting. I’ve also tried 3 Voile Rose (a bit light, but I can make it work) and 5 Popeline Mimosa (a bit too dark). I still think Shade 4 is the best for me although I don’t really need the green and purple tones to color correct. I really wish they would make a medium shade without the color correctors.

Most recently I tried the Prisme Libre Skin-Caring Glow Foundation. I finally found my match in the shade N280. Love this formula for the natural glow and medium coverage.

No 1 de Chanel Skin Enhancers

For a glow complexion enhancer the No 1 de Chanel Skin Enhancers from Chanel hands down was my favorite (Exclusive to Chanel and Ulta Beauty). Full review here. For a more affordable alternative (but without skincare) I still recommend the Elf Halo Glow Liquid Filter (I wear Shade 3 or 4) for an all over natural glow booster.

Lip Favorites

This month’s lip favorites are primarily repeats. The YSL Candy Glaze Lip Gloss Sticks in 13 Flashing Rose and 15 Showcasing Nude have been in rotation almost daily. Review + swatches here.

I still reach for the Dior Addict Lip Maximizers in 14 Shimmer Macadamia (below left) and 038 Rose Nude frequently (below right). Review + swatches of more shades here.

The Chanel Longwear Lip Pencils finally came back in stock! The shades Rose Naturel + Nude Brun are the best ones in my opinion for neutrals.

Chanel Lip Liners

In the matte lip/liquid lip world I tried some of the Lisa Eldridge Velveteen Liquid Lip Colour and was completely blown away! I am usually not a fan of liquid lips/matte lip formulas, but this one from Lisa Eldridge has the most comfortable liquid lip texture that I’ve ever tried. It has a nice dry down that doesn’t shrink or dry out the lips. Colors are very flattering and lasting power is impressive. I have not done a blog post on these but you can see them in action HERE on reels.

Eye Makeup Favorites

The Natasha Denona I Need a Nude Palette is hands down the best palette this month if not this year. I love the neutral-warm tones, pigment, color payoff and quality. Still in stock at Ulta Beauty, if you’re a Sephora shopper you can sign up for alerts when it restocks there.

Hand Care

Diptyque Velvet Hand Lotion

For hand care I’ve been a huge fan of the Diptyque Softening Hand Wash and the Velvet Hand Lotion. We have mutiples of these in our home, I just started using the Velvet Hand Lotion again and it’s pure love.

In my bag I carry the Chanel Le Lift La Crème Main which I love for hydration and smoothing.

For the nails I still swear by the OPI Cuticle Oil for an affordable option. I’ve been really interested in trying the Dior Huile Abricot which looks like it might have been reformulated recently.

Skincare Loves

La Mer Skin Favorites Moisturizing Soft Cream, Concentrate, Eye Concentrate

Not much has changed in my skincare routine lately. I still have my usual go-to’s in rotation but I’ve been really loving the La Mer Soft Moisturizing Cream, The Concentrate, The Eye Concentrate and the Treatment Lotion Hydrating Sheet Masks.

Fragrance Favorites

Diptyque L’Eau Papier

Even though fall is approaching it still feels very much like summer and my top 3 scents for August were Diptyque L’Eau Papier and Phlur Missing Person for skin-like scents and Phlur Father Figure for a lush fig. For date nights or something more sophisticated and dressy I love Creed’s Aventus for Her.

Handbag Essentials

Handbag Essentials

I rotate my handbags regularly based on outfits but I always keep a hair clip (love the ones from Emi Jay), blotting papers, travel perfume, and at least a couple lip balms inside. The Dior Blotting Papers have been a lifesaver in this weather. My favorite lip balms are the squeeze tube or click up style format. I also swear by the R&Co Dart Stick for flyaways.

Hair Care Loves

Kerastase Nutritive Hair Care Line

I’ve been a die-hard Oribe fan for the longest time. I keep going back to the the Gold Lust line for the Shampoo and Conditioner. I do like to switch it up though depending on my hair needs and just started using the Kerastase Nutritive Line and my hair looks so much better and feels amazing. I tend to forget in the hot summer months my hair tends to get dried out from the sun, heat and pool. They have different options depending on hair type (ie fine or thick) but I’ve been loving the Bain Satin Shampoo for Fine to Medium Hair + Hydrating Conditioner. They’re hydrating but rinse well so they don’t leave a heavy film on the hair.

The biggest game changers for me though are the Heat Protectant Styling Cream and Heat Protecting Leave-In Spray. Both are great leave-in products that help hydrate and reduce frizz without being too heavy.

If I had to pick one I really love the Heat Protectant Styling Cream (best for medium hair). If you have Fine to Medium Hair you might want to try the Leave-In Spray.

Mini Pouch

Stoney Clover Mini Pouch

Last but not least is a new mini pouch. I ordered one of the the Stoney Clover Mini Pouches (available at Revolve, Saks, Stoney Clover). It’s pretty spendy for a small pouch but I love the size and shape. There are lots of other options with a solid nylon material, patterened nylon, nylon + clear. On the Stoney Clover site you can customize your own with different patches which is cute. I do think with the material this will get dirty easily since it’s fabric but I love the size and structure.

Stoney Clover is having a pretty good Labor Day Sale this weekend with 40% off a lot of items. My clear pouch is included in the sale.
