Tom Ford Beauty Cream and Powder Eye Colors Summer 2015

April 25, 2015

Summer collections are starting to surface and the color offerings this year seem like the perfect mix of natural + fresh color. I was thrilled to get an early sneak peek at some of Tom Ford’s summer collection. First up I have the Cream and Powder Eye Colors ($60 each for 0.24 oz. base/ 0.07 oz for top).

The Cream and Powder Eye Colors come packaged in a double-tiered pot shadow with a flip top lid that has a small mirror. You simply twist the bottom to get to the cream, while the powder glitter is on top. Being a glitter-phobe, I was really worried how these would perform but I’ve had really good experiences with some of the quads like Seductive Rose and the limited-edition Ombre Eye Color Trios from a couple years ago so I had high hopes for these new summer duos.

Each color is really quite stunning and perfect to wear alone. The cream shadows are creamy and emollient but don’t slide, budge or fade after application. I’ve been playing around with each duo, I like to apply the cream shade first on the lids, blended into a soft gradient. Then I take my finger and dip it into the glitter powder and dab onto the lids on top of the cream shadow. For a glitter product I was really impressed to find there was no fallout and that they lasted a long time (from morning until afternoon). If you use a brush for the powder there might be a tiny bit of debris that will fall onto the cheeks or under the eyes, I was able to get no fall out a couple times, but then some others there was a tiny bit. For this reason I prefer using the fingers to pat them on.

There are four colors which are some of the prettiest duos I’ve seen. The glittery powders are semi-sheer in terms of color but there is still a lot of pigment. When layered over the cream shadows they enhance the color of the creams and add dimension.
  • Naked Bronze has a deep warm bronzey cream and a sheer gold shimmer/glitter for the powder
  • Golden Peach has a warm pinky peachy metallic with a sheer warm peachy glitter powder
  • Black Oyster has a deep complex charcoal cream shimmer with a silvery grey glitter powder
  • Midnight Sea has a complex khaki/bronze/brown shimmer cream with an aqua teal glitter/powder

The cream in Naked Bronze reminds me of Spice, the peach in Golden Peach reminds me of Pink Haze and the cream in Midnight Sea reminds me of Spring 2015 Cream. I’m currently traveling so I don’t have my makeup stash with me to compare the creams, but once I return home I will update this post with comparison swatches of the creams.

Close ups of each color plus swatches of the shades individually, then layered:

I’ve played with each of the colors and am so impressed. Midnight Sea had me a little worried since I rarely wear blues or aquas but layering the teal on top of the deep brown shimmer creates a really interesting look. My favorites of course are Naked Bronze and Golden Peach – they add enough color to the lids to give your complexion a summery glow but aren’t over the top. As a neutral and conservative makeup lover, to say that I am afraid of glitter would be an understatement (I am almost anti-glitter). So for me to say that I really like these is huge. I think they are wearable for everyday although if you work in a conservative office environment you may want to go very light on the application of the powder shadows because the glittery is glitzy but not over the top (at least in my opinion).

Both Golden Peach and Black Oyster have held up really well in the Dallas humidity this week and I’m very impressed. If you’re a Tom Ford fan these are definitely must-haves even with the high price point. If you like color and want something new and different, these are worth looking into.

You can find the Cream and Powder Eye Colors for $60 each. Online at Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom (pre-order), Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue (pre-order) and Tom Ford (pre-order).

Thanks for the feedback. The cream of Midnight Sea had me interested but a little hesitant. I can't ever imagine wearing light blue shadow, but now that I'm seeing it layered… it's really interesting me.

Hi Amy! I am almost always anti-aqua/blue shadows on me because it's just not flattering. Looks so pretty on my friends but I can't pull it off. The layering effect is really interesting and wearable but I do think I will find myself reaching more for Golden Peach or Naked Bronze.

i love love love these. i was most surprised by Midnight Sea. i, like you, thought the aqua would be unwearable for me (especially at my age!). but if applied subtly, it is GORGEOUS and completely unique. it is so pretty on the eye. i picked up all but the Black Oyster.
thanks for featuring these!! xo sj

They look gorgeous : ) Golden Peach is my fave!

  • Amanda Hollingsworth April 25, 2015 at 4:12 pm

I simply cannot wait for Monday……I have a make up lesson at TF in Selfridges with the new collection. I have limited myself to Naked Bronze & Black Oyster in the Eye Colours. Plus cream blush in Pink Sand, the Large colour palette, the body oil & a small Gold Dust compact as I love the 70's retro looking palettes but already have a large compact from core range. So excited as it all looks heavenly.

Charlotte Tilbury has released cream colour eyeshadow online on her website in UK this week. They are £22 but don't look a patch on Tom Ford eye colour creams. I will have to have a closer look when they go onto counter. I think there are six in the range but they struck me as a bit of an attempt to buy into the buzz around cream products as opposed to a natural development of CT range. I'm to be convinced. Sometimes I think CT tries to be all things to all people and they don't seem entirely sure who their core customer is.

I saw some sneak peeks of this and am intrigued. Would love to hear your thoughts once you get a chance to play 🙂

    Midnight Sea is too pretty!

  • Eileen April 25, 2015 at 4:51 pm

Sabrina, the three that you thought were similar to previous releases are, indeed, repromotes according to TF. Spice, Pink Haze, and Spring 2015. The celestial shades that accompany them are all new, but Black Oyster is the only new cream. It's a wonderful opportunity for anyone who missed out on those three outstanding LE creams to get them. I don't know of any other cream/gel eyeshadow that performs as well as the ones by TF and I sincerely wish he'd make them part of his permanent lineup. Other brands might offer more in the way of colors, but those that TF creates are superlative in terms of complexity of color, smooth and even finish, long wear without fading, and overall performance of the product. I already have the three repromotes and so Black Oyster is the only one I've preordered. Once products actually hit counter, though, I'll check out the others to see if the celestial shades are enough to get me to repurchase. I'm a real sucker for a bit of TF fairy dust on the moveable lid. I love that subtle now you see it, now you don't sparkle that is achieved by gently pressing the fine sparkles on with a fingertip. Oh, Tom Ford! You summer collection is beyond gorgeous!

    • Sabrina April 28, 2015 at 6:25 pm

Thanks Eileen for letting me know about the repromotes – it helped me go through and pull which colors to swatch/compare. You're so right though about the smooth texture of the TF cream shadows, it's so unique in terms of performance, color and lasting power. I agree I hope they expand the color selection!

Midnight Sea layered reminds me of one of the unusual MAC pigments I used to have (mind is going, blue brown maybe?)

    • Sabrina April 28, 2015 at 6:26 pm

Ooh, that's an interesting thought. It does have that MAC Blue Brown vibe except not quite as red. I adore Blue Brown but have to tweak it with a black or deep brown pencil because it pulls quite red on my skin.

These are really, really interesting! I feel like we've only recently had duo/dual eye product, often being eyeliner one end and eyeshadow stick the other. I love how these look layered, but I wish they stood a little bit more on their own as well. The creams are great, but not so impressed with the power side.

Yeah, I understand the powder won't be everyone's cup of tea.

  • Anonymous April 25, 2015 at 8:04 pm

I bet these would look lovely on you. And if you're going to do some glitter, might as well make it Tom Ford! I have Spring 2015 cream shadow already (love!), so but I'll put a teal shadow on top to see if I can get a similar effect (Katherine T.)

    • Sabrina April 28, 2015 at 6:27 pm

Thanks Katherine 🙂 Yes, if you have the Spring 2015, you can skip the Midnight Sea duo 🙂

  • Charline S April 25, 2015 at 8:45 pm

Wow they look amazing! So expensive though 🙁 x

I know, TF usually manages to kill my wallet. I just bought the new Fleur de Portofino perfume, mini bronzers and the oil spray plus the lipsticks.

I'm going to keep it simple – what beautiful colours!

  • Petunia April 26, 2015 at 1:17 pm

Great post. I keep coming back to look at your photos. 🙂

    • Sabrina April 28, 2015 at 6:29 pm

Thanks Petunia – I'm glad they helped!

  • Annikky April 26, 2015 at 5:31 pm

Midnight Sea is stunning when layered.

  • Anonymous April 26, 2015 at 7:58 pm

These pots are a great idea. How nice to have the cream on the bottom and the glitter on top – two in one. Golden Peach and Mignight Sea are my favorites but they are all spectacular.

    • Sabrina April 28, 2015 at 6:29 pm

I really like the packaging too.

  • Rachel Polansky April 26, 2015 at 10:30 pm

Love the Bronze and Peach shades… wish they weren't so pricy!

  • Susie April 27, 2015 at 3:17 am

OMG!!! They are all so very pretty. I think I will try first the midnight sea then the peach one.

  • Amanda Hollingsworth April 27, 2015 at 5:17 pm

I am home post makeover with an 'orgasmic' glow that only buying Tom Ford gives me! I have everything I went for but didn't buy the body oil as I found the amber scent too much. It clashes with my perfume. I think I must be in the minority as everyone seems to be raving about the oil but it wasn't for me. Fabulous collection that has virtually all sold out in a day at TF, Selfridges. I arrived at 2pm and if I hadn't reserved my choices weeks ago I would have come home without Pink Sand cream blush and the Palette as both had sold out. The Tom Ford girls are all really excited about the products too……always a good sign.

    • Sabrina April 28, 2015 at 6:30 pm

I bought the oil sight unseen but tested it over the weekend and yes it's very strong but I thought I'd try something new. I am so glad you got to take home your picks!

    • Amanda Hollingsworth April 28, 2015 at 10:22 pm

I know you are much fonder of spices Diptyque than I am Sabrina. I always gravitate to florals……Mimosa & Jasmine are my favourites. I had to move Amber out of my bedroom I found it so strong. It ended up in the room where the dog's basket is and still held its own. And I think that's where the problem of the body oil is for me. If it has had a Mediterranean Jasmine base I would have loved it as the shimmer is beautiful but the amber scent was still on my skin 18 hours later and after a shower too. It was so strong it was totally overpowering the perfume I had on yesterday. But I am very much in the minority. Even Charlotte Tilbury was raving about it on Twitter. Xx

  • transientbeaute.com April 27, 2015 at 5:32 pm

Oh wow I really like the idea. But on the other hand, I might be able to achieve a similar effect with good cream eyeshadows and nice complementary eyeshadows 😉

  • Zeynep April 27, 2015 at 7:18 pm

To say I'm in love with this collection is an understatement and have been ridiculously anxious for my items to ship. I only ordered the palette and two new lip color sheers, but I'm seriously thinking about ordering Black Oyster. TF totally knocked it out of the park with this collection in my opinion. Thanks for the review – and looking forward to the rest!

    • Sabrina April 28, 2015 at 6:31 pm

Zeynep, I think the collection is totally stunning too! I think Black Oyster is still easy to find so if you can get to a counter to test, definitely do so. It's cool-toned and usually I have a hard time wearing silvers or greys on my olive skin by themselves but this one is really stunning.

    Midnight sea is gorgeous!!
    Lots of love, xx

  • Stephanie May 5, 2015 at 6:55 pm

I just got Naked Bronze and you're right, it's such a wearable glitter! Very beautiful and I'm already combining them with other shades in my head. Also, LOVE your blog and your reviews; most helpful and visited by far!
