Mani/Pedi with OPI Hollywood Blonde, OPI YDKJ + UD Gunmetal

January 6, 2010

I brought my OPI Hollywood Blonde & Urban Decay Gunmetal to the salon for a mani/pedi color change. I had forgotten how sheer the UD Gunmetal was – with one swipe we saw how transparent it was. I asked for 3 coats and she was skeptical it would show even with 3 coats, so she suggested to use another color as a base with the UD on top for the shimmer. She picked OPI’s You Don’t Know Jacques which is a darker version of the new Chanel Particuliere click the link for more pics/comparisons. It was pure genius!

The 3 colors used: OPI Hollywood Blonde, OPI YDKJ, Urban Decay Gunmetal

Mani/Pedi Results:

Close up of Hollywood Blonde (3 coats and still sheer looking, but very sparkley)

Close Up of OPI YDKJ 2 coats + UD Gunmetal 1 coat
(to spare you from a close up of my unsightly toes)

Those who have UD Gunmetal and are worried about what happens when the product runs out of that tiny bottle, I definitely recommend using a darker taupe grey cream color first in 1-2 coats, then applying the UD on top. You’ll definitely be able to stretch out the lifespan of that uber-tiny bottle by doing so since it’s so sheer you’d need at least 3 coats to get what you see in the bottle anyways.

Uh-oh! Did you have to remove the polish from your freshly manicured thumb?? 😛
    Pretty colors!! 🙂

Hi! Yes, I did b/c I didn't want to take more pics of my toes and freak everyone out!

The benefit of OPI's Hollywood Blonde is that it's goof-proof for a klutz like me.

thanks once again for your lovely swatches! lol to your toe comment, I don't mind toes, but I definitely have friends can't look at feet and who even freak out when people brush past their feet

GENIUS!! I haven't had my nails done in the UD Gunmetal for just this reason. Great idea!! This will be my next mani/pedi…oh golly, I still have all those RBL polishes to try too. LOL

I cannot stress out how much I love UD Gunmetal. I usually apply two very thick coats of it and end up spending double the time waiting for it to dry! It looks great on your toes. I also LOVE You Don't Know Jacques – that was my favorite from the OPI French collection 2yrs ago. Have you tried Sephora's Metro Chic? I think that one may have more of a lavendar tinge to it. You reminded me to pick up a new bottle of that Jacques color – I dropped my bottle on the bathroom floor and sadly broke! My next manicure will involve OPI's new Over the Taupe…

Blinkydaisy – thanks for the nice compliment, glad it didn't make you go eeewwweee! I was a ballet dancer for 11 years. It's been over 10 years since I stopped, but it did enough damage to my feet that they still look icky.

Lisa – I've been dying to use all the new RBL polishes too. I have so many now I can't decide which one to try on.

Lexi – glad to find another UD Gunmetal fan! I love how it's not your typical silvery-grey b/c it's a bit warmer with brown tones. I'm going to try it over OPI Over the Taupe next time so it will look a bit warmer. I really hope they bring it out in full size.

Wow! That Hollywood Beige reminds me of a color Lancome used to have called Beige Marilyn. It was my go-to nail color when I wasn't wearing Chanel Vamp. Really must get a bottle of that.

I'm so happy – and surprised – to see Hollywood Blonde! I think it's my all-time favourite polish. I think of it like Kitten for my eyes – quick, easy, simple but gorgeous.
