Bobbi Brown Exclusive Sets at Neiman Marcus & Saks Fifth Avenue

September 3, 2009

Every year Bobbi Brown releases some exclusive seasonal items at Neiman Marcus several times a year and more recently also at Saks and Nordstrom. I have some details about these exclusive collection items:

Saks is having their beauty event at the end of the month called Bounty of Beauty. Each line has something exclusive to the store – I’m in the process of getting more info, but Laura Mercier has a baked eyeshadow palette with brushes, Armani has a special size of their Crema Nera etc.

Saks Bobbi Brown has a limited edition Black Fawn set which retails for $100 and includes:
* Black-plum metallic leather zip case
* 4 pan palette with full sized Ivory Eyeshadow, Fawn Shimmerwash, Powder Pink Pot Rouge, and exclusive Paisley Rose Lipgloss
* 3 mini brushes: eyeshader, eyeshadow, and lip

Neiman Marcus & Bergdorf Goodman have some more exciting exclusives which include:

Black Plum Deluxe Brush Set (brushes featuring a new black handle, forgot the brushes in the set and the price, but probably in the $200 range)

Black Plum Collection Set $245 which contains:
* 9 pan dark-silver palette (gorgeous) with full sizes in Navajo Eyeshadow (matte), Ash Shimmerwash Eyeshadow, Deep Plum Eyeshadow (matte & exclusive), Natural Bronzer (size of the blushes), Washed Rose Blush, Plum Blush, Brown Lip Color, Rose Petal Creamy Lip Color, Pink Chandelier Lip Gloss (repromote from their party collection)
* black plum metallic zip portfolio pouch
* short handled (but not mini) black handled brushes: bronzer, eyeshadow, eyeliner, lip, and one more I can’t remember

These are the items in the set (palette and case not pictured):

I saw the Black Plum Set today and it’s absolutely stunning, but I already have most of the colors! The brushes won’t be in for another month. The counter near me only received 6 sets and had already sold 2. Their gift for beauty week on the 10th is a full sized Navajo Metallic eyeshadow, .24 oz Crystal Lipgloss, .1 oz Everything Mascara, and a .24 oz Hydrating Eye Cream.

They will be having Incircle Gifts in October & December as well.

I haven’t called Bergdorf to check on their event dates or gifts. But here is a scan of the set from their fall catalog.

Later in October, Neimans will receive three mini shimmer bricks in Sandstone, Nectar and Plum – the catalog stated they retail for $50 and we couldn’t discern whether it was a set or if the prices were individual. Anyone have any details? There are also 3 new exclusive lipsticks coming out

None of these sets are online yet. I do not know if they will be released online. Your best bet to purchase these would be to call your local Neimans or Bergdorfs to place an order or to put one on hold.

Bobbi Brown ‘Pewter’ Metallic Eye Set (Nordstrom Exclusive)

August 29, 2009

I first saw the new Bobbi Brown Pewter Metallic Eye Set on Nordstrom.com about a month ago and immediately inquired about it at several stores while I was in Seattle & Portland and also when I got back home. I was told that it wouldn’t be released until October for the Nordstrom Trend Shows. I finally caved in and ordered it online and here it is (retails for $40):

Swatched next to MAC Mink & Sable to show that it really isn’t green:

At this time I am not quite sure if this Pewter Metallic Eyeshadow will be the same as the Pewter Chrome Eyeshadow that will be released with the Chrome Collection in October (details and photos at PinkMelon). All I know is that the packaging material is different – the metallic one from nordstrom is in the regular black compact while the chrome looks like it will be in the same size/shape of compact, but a different color to go along with the chrome theme.

Overall thoughts: the Pewter Metallic Shadow is absolutely gorgeous. It’s an extremely complex taupey/silvery/pewter shimmer shade with a hint of gold tones. If you’re a Bobbi Brown fan, I highly recommend checking this out at your local Nordstrom counter!

Update on Thoughts for Bobbi Brown Metallic Cream Shadows

August 22, 2009

FYI – the original post has been updated with a review. Perhaps the darker colors like Starry Night and Starry Purple will show up better. But unless you’re a fan of glitter, you’re probably better off trying her original cream shadows if you like creams or metallic powder eyeshadows if you want something metallic.

Definitely recommend trying these out in person as your mileage may vary based on tastes.

First Look at Bobbi Brown Metallic Long-Wear Cream Eyeshadows

August 21, 2009

Stopped by Saks today and saw the new Metallic Long-Wear Cream Shadows out. They have a sheer colored base and most of the pigment is in the metallic sparkles of each shade. They consist of a sheer almost clear base (which you can see below in the swatches),with colored sparkles. The good news is that once applied, these really stick to the skin.

The sparkles are bigger than I’d expect for something from Bobbi Brown, almost like micro glitters. The colors are really pretty in but I was hoping that colors like Antique Gold would show up deeper on the skin the same way it looks in the pot.

It seems like there were a lot of silvery-based colors. And many of them seemed very similar, like different variations of shimmer.

I came home with three: Brown Metal, Chrome Patina and Antique Gold.

Swatches, left to right: Brown Metal, Chrome Patina and Antique Gold

Also featured with the display were 2 gel liners, the cream eyeshadow brush, and gel liner brush, all repromotes.

**** UPDATE 08/21 Friday ****
I tried Antique Gold today on the eyes three different ways and have mixed feelings about these new creams. Pros: super sparkley, the sparkles stick to the eye. Cons: the sparkles are a lot bigger than I’m used to for the eye and definitely are noticeable enough to look like micro-glitters on the face, there is a lot of fall out with the glitter even though the majority of the product stays on the eyes, the base is indeed very very sheer. I applied this three ways, 1) alone with a liner, 2) as a base with MAC Go eyeshadow layered over – both of which I ended up taking off because it just looked odd. The final way I applied it was over powder eyeshadow (MAC Go + Mulch) as a top coat and still – too glittery/chunky.

If you want a metallic cream shadow but don’t want chunks of glitter, check out Laura Mercier or Urban Decay for better formulas and colors. Unless you’re a fan of glitter, I’d say pass on these.
