Chanel Le Vernis in Vamp #18 ($27 for 13 ml/0.4 oz) is one of my most-worn nail colors and is one of the few polishes I’ve used up completely – twice. Vamp was one of my first colors back in the 90’s when Chanel nail polishes were only in the $15-18ish range. The original was different than today’s version but I never kept the bottle after it was used so I can’t provide a comparison of the then vs. now. Chanel Vamp has still remained a cult classic. It’s been swatched and featured on this blog numerous times as the baseline for classic vamp comparisons. See it compared to YSL Prune Minimale, Chanel Provocation, Vamp Favorites (2012 edition), Dior Galaxie, and Chanel Malice to name a few. I have it on the nails this weekend as I’m going through a vampy/aubergine color obsession again.
Chanel Vamp is listed as a permanent shade. You can find it at all Chanel counters and beauty studios. Also online at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Saks. What’s on your nails this weekend?

Yes, I believe Laura is correct. I remember my bottle said rouge noir/vamp in the 90's. If you really are deep into it, Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction wore it and started the craze. Her nail polish is the original vamp or rouge noir now.
I have a bottle of the first edition 18 Rouge Noir – and I just cannot part with it despite it being all used up. It is/was a creme with no shimmer of any kind. Its still stunning after all these years. Vamp was not released in Europe and I will have to get my hands on a bottle because this is also amazing…
Love this – fairly similar to Rouge Moire which I'm loving at the moment only this is darker and more brown.. I've fallen in back in love with the vampy fall colours as well! x
Rouge noir is a creme. This one is shimmery. But not available in the UK I think.

This is so interesting that both Rouge Noir and Vamp have the same number. Vamp is quite different but oh so nice with it's plum undertone. I still have the original bottle of Chanel Rouge Noir no 18, I'll tweet you the link to the entry I wrote about it. 🙂

Today's Rouge Noir is very similar to the original Vamp but slightly more berry-toned. Today's Vamp is indeed more shimmery. All pretty. I still have a bottle of the original Vamp along with Very Vamp and Metallic Vamp. Such a great collection!
