Chanel Collection Rêverie Parisienne Les 4 Ombres in Tissé Paris and Tissé Fantaisie

December 20, 2014

There are two new Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eyeshadows ($61 each) for spring in Tissé Paris 238 and Tissé Fantaisie 236. I bought both of mine in store from Nordstrom (just launched online too at Nordstrom and Chanel.com). Both of them are shimmery but on the eyes the shimmer is soft and satiny. These come in the new Les 4 Ombres formula which has the round pans and better pigment compared to the non-US baked quads.

Tissé Paris is the cool-toned option with soft pink, rose and a deep navy-grey smokey shimmer. It’s really quite stunning in the compact. It has the perfect mix of delicate with the pink and bold with the deep smokey navy grey shade. I was worried it might give a pink-eye look (because I have to approach pink eyeshadows with caution), but it is neutral enough that it looks perfect. I don’t recall having a palette quite like this one, although the mix of pink and gunmetal do remind me a bit of Marc Jacobs Beauty The Enigma and Dior Bar.

Tissé Fantaisie is what I envision spring to be like in a palette. It has a soft silvery shimmer with a slight hint of cream and green, a shimmering soft warm peach, a stunning green with gold shimmer and a warm coppery bronze metallic. The colors layer well together to create a really interesting look. Green shadows usually aren’t my thing, but these have gold and silver shimmers mixed in making them more wearable for me. I don’t have a lot of quads with sea green or green tones in general, the closest thing I could think of is Dior Bonne Etoile from a few holidays ago. For some reason Tissé Fantaisie has a Dior-vibe to me, but I don’t think I have any of the quints with a sea green and bronze mix.

The pigment for the spring quads is very good, but softer than what I’ve tested with quads like Tissé Rivoli/Poesie. I found Tissé Paris and Fantaisie to swatch very well on the arm or hand, but on the eyes the effect is softer, similar to what I experienced with Tissé Vendome/Gabrielle. A good creamy eye base will help bring out the pigment more.

I’m more of a fan of neutrals and right now I’m all about golds or smokey palettes. Both of the Chanel spring quads are definitely worth looking into. For me, I’ll be wearing them more in the new year once the holiday season is over. These are both stunning, gorgeous and feminine, but have a more spring-like seasonal feel. I’d be hard pressed to pick one favorite because they are both so unique in their own way. I have a very slight preference towards Tissé Paris.

Right now, only Tissé Fantaisie is listed as a limited-edition shade. I purchased both of mine in stores at Nordstrom. They are also online now at Nordstrom and Chanel.com.

hi sabrina! in your post before, i commented that i purchased tisse fantasie (please excuse spelling).when the artist applied this on me, i only saw dark gray/black (from the ardoise…spelling? pencil) and just a faint coral that was put in the crease. i should have said something when i was at the counter. but, i never learn that the lighting in the store makes the product extra enticing! i had issues with rivoli and poesie too. i think i like the older formula better because i never had trouble with pigmentation. you suggested a creamy base and i remember you mentioned the one by edward bess. with that, i just can't justify spending more money and buying a primer. i've been wearing chanel for years and never needed a primer. i just received the reve d' orient quad and noticed it's not the same formula. am i right about that? i think the description on the box is different. maybe i'll use that quad in place of the spring selections. i wonder if anyone else has had these issues with the new formulation? thankyou for posting these items so quickly.

      Hi Wendy,

I don't have any issues with Rivoli or Poesie. I find the pigment and formula really good. The spring shades are also very good for me, just more satiny in finish and slightly sheerer. This time of year skin can be dry and I find adding a bit of eye cream can help if you apply it under foundation.

I do like Edward Bess's eye base the best, but cream shadow sticks like Laura Mercier Caviar eye sticks or By Terry work nicely too.

Brushes can make a difference, but in my experience, all types work well with Chanel eyeshadows (MAC, Bobbi Brown, NARS etc.)

…..sabrina…do you think the brushes make a difference in the way the colors apply? the artist used all chanel brushes. please let me know if you have any recommendations. thankyou so much!!

      Hi Wendy,
You certainly don't need to use Chanel brushes for these quads to perform beautifully, but using the right brush for the formula and the effect you're trying to create will definitely make a difference. For the new Chanel formula, I love my Tom Ford brushes, but sometimes I'll use my squirrel hair Hakuhodos when I want a softer, more translucent look or sometimes I'll reach for a MAC 239 when I want to pack on the color. To be honest, though, I really don't think changing a brush is going to transform a product that you basically dislike into one that you love. Sometimes it happens that a beloved product is reformulated and it no longer works for us. But, rather than trying to force it to work, it is far less frustrating to accept that the product has changed and move on–at least until the next reformulation! LOL

By the way, have you tried pairing Fantasie with something other than Ardoise? A deep golden green or copper perhaps?

Eee look at Tisse Fantaisie! That really is spring in a palette! Kinda reminds me of this Guerlain quad from a couple of springs back, but much softer 🙂

Ooh, you're right! I forgot about that one.

I love Tisse Paris but I'm surprised how much I'm liking the LE. I think it might be your coloring though. I'm not sure how it would look on my cooler skin tone.

Absolutely stunning colours. They look similar to the Avon eye shadow quads.

Thank you for this great review. I am so excited you were able to review these and assess them both. Also, thank you for your explanation of how you apply your eye make-up. I know this is a late appreciation. I will need to try and practice. Perhaps, I'll look into some of the MAC brushes or is there an equivalent among the Chanel brushes?
    Have a great weekend.

Thank you for the review. I love the Tisse Fantaisie the best with its lovely green colour. I think it adds an extra dimension to the eye. It is a beautiful colour.

I bought Tissé Paris and have worn it several times because it works beautifully with the warm plums and merlots that are so appealing this time of year. The rosés and soft ivory hint at spring while the anthracite reminds me it is still winter. It is a beautifully balanced palette for anyone who loves the combination of pink and grey. Worn on its own or with Ardoise for more intensity, Tissé Paris just strikes all the right notes for me. I'm happy with the look of Paris applied with my Tom Ford brushes, but when I do want more pronounced color, I find a slightly dampened brush does the trick. I like having a wet/dry formula that lets me determine the level of color saturation. All considered, Tissé Paris is a lovely addition to Chanel's quads.

As for Tissé Fantasie, it is a beauty. Its combination of copper, peach, and golden green reminds me of spring's first new leaves emerging on a tree. But, unfortunately, as much as I love the appearance in the quad and how well it switches, I had to give it a miss because I have never been able to pull off that type of green. It always makes my eye color look dull and flat. The quad will certainly look beautiful, though, on many other women.

Thanks for all the tips Eileen! I completely forgot about using these with a slightly damp brush. I'll have to try that this week 🙂
