Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Matte Revolution and Valentine KISSING Lipstick Review | The Beauty Look Book

Charlotte Tilbury has launched two new lipsticks in Pillow Talk and Valentine for spring, both currently exclusive online to Charlotte Tilbury. True to her style of wanting to help women create an entire look, she also has launched corresponding look sets with existing permanent colors for eyes and lips to go with each lipstick color. Pillow Talk is a pinky nude and comes in the Matte Revolution formula and matches the Lip Cheat Lip Pencil in Pillow Talk exactly. The color is one of my favorites for liners and the idea of launching it in a lipstick is just pure genius. Valentine is in the K.I.S.S.I.N.G formula and is a baby pink. I think Charlotte Tilbury makes some of the best neutrals and light nudes for the lips and this one has a very girly soft romantic vibe. Both colors have medium coverage that is buildable to full coverage.

Pillow Talk is a pinky nude, depending on the light it can look more coral or warm, but for the most part it’s a neutral nude pink color. I find it similar to Very Victoria Matte Revolution but Pillow Talk is warmer and by comparison makes Very Victoria look like it has a slight grey undertone. This is the perfect everyday neutral – not too light, not too dark, not too pink and yet not too brown.

Valentine K.I.S.S.I.N.G lipstick is a baby pink. I suspect it might not be the easiest for everyone to pull off. I think Bitch Perfect is easier to wear because it’s slightly deeper and also has just a tad bit more beige.

I received the Naturally Beautiful Date Look Makeup Kit with Pillow Talk for review but being the Charlotte Tilbury fan that I am, I actually already own all the items in the set from previous purchases. Love Glow Cheek to Chic blush is one of the prettiest soft glowy blushes I own. Since I don’t believe I reviewed the Golden Goddess or Love Glow items before I’ve swatched them here for reference. You can buy the items individually or in the set:

  • Love Glow in Cheek to Chic Blush has a mix of soft pink and peach to brighten the skin, it has a soft shimmer that glows but doesn’t look frosted
  • Feline Flick Eyeliner is a true black liquid liner
  • Full Fat Lashes is a thick black mascara
  • Luxury Eyeshadow Palette in Golden Goddess has a shimmering sand, olive brown tan shimmer, brown glitter (this is one of her least glittery shades therefore making it really wearable even for everyday), shimmering bronze
  • Pillow Talk Matte Revolution
  • Pillow Talk Lip Cheat Lip Pencil

For those who like the comparisons, two sets below in case you want to shop your stash for similar colors. I’ll say right now I think Pillow Talk Matte Revolution is a must-have. It’s one I know I’ll be reaching for frequently. It’s a great neutral that won’t wash out the complexion and isn’t too light.

Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Matte Revolution and Valentine KISSING Lipstick | The Beauty Look BookI’m beyond obsessed with the Pillow Talk in lipstick form. I hope it’s permanent and here to stay because the color is just perfect. I like Valentine but I think it’s one of those shades that might be higher maintenance for some just because it’s lighter. Valentine is definitely wearable even with my pigmented lips but I prefer Pillow Talk all the way.

You can find both shades now exclusively online at Charlotte Tilbury. Pillow Talk Matte Revolution and Valentine KISSING Lipstick are $32 each. Look sets range in price depending on what is in each kit (products vary per look). The Secret to Seduction Look is $165. The Naturally Beautiful Date Look is $190.

Are these on your radar or wishlist?

I can’t explain why, but every time I buy one of her products i end up disappointed. I do spend on skincare and makeup and i don’t mind if the product justifies it. Maybe it is because Charlotte makes her products look so amazing on videos that when you get them those unrealistic claims vanish as soon as you try the product. maybe they just don’t work for my skin and coloring (I am a fair brunette). The bottom line is, go try them in a store and make sure they are worth the money for you

Same here…there are a few CT products I truly love, but 90% of the time I find myself disappointed. And yet, inexplicably I keep being drawn back into buying her stuff. Marketing man.

Great review, and I find her products so enticing, but everything (with the exception of the original Instant Look in a Palette–I love that) I’ve tried has been a gigantic disappointment. Also, she puts ingredients in her products I don’t want to use (papaya enzyme and others), so they’re an automatic pass. I guess it’s a good thing, because I’m saving lots of bucks.

      • Aww sorry to hear that! I love her line but can see how it might not work for everyone!

    • emmmilyyy

I definitely don’t love all of her products – not a fan of shimmery eyeshadow in general and the one matte palette she does have was disappointing to me (the Sophisticate). And I have reservations about trying her skincare line after reading an interview about her bedtime makeup (!) routine. Lol! But I have to say that I truly love her lip products. I think the quality of her lipsticks is fantastic and is also far more consistent than pricier lines like Tom Ford. While I definitely love some of Tom Ford’s lipsticks, I’ve had problems with some of them in the past – strange texture, a couple of shades that quickly turned rancid, etc). I agree that Charlotte is extremely persuasive in her video tutorials and sometimes trying the products out yourself, it can be a bit of a let down!

  • I am a big fan of Charlotte as well so thank you for the review!

  • Looooove pillow talk ????

  • I love the Pillow Talk liner and lipstick, but Valentine washed me out, so I skipped it. I like most CT products, although her marketing can be a bit too much sometimes.

    • I have a very slight preference for Between the Sheets.

What is your favorite charlotte lipsticks?

  • TraceyEB

Thanks for the excellent review and swatches. I’m passing on both new lip shades. I don’t know what it is with CT lipsticks but I find how they look is so depended on one’s natural lip color that a number of the nudes and lighter shades look terrible on me. Pillow Talk as a liner is okay but if I use it to shade in my lips, it makes them look a deathly pink-beige shade. I will only buy her lipsticks at the counter but, frankly, I enjoy other brands more, in general. Her legendary brows product is HG for me and I adore her cream eyeshadows and the complexion products from her collaboration with Norman Parkinson. I do well with her eyeshadows, face-in-a-palette, full fat lashes mascara, clay mask, and miracle glow cleanser. But lipsticks are hit or miss for sure.

  • Thank you for the review! When I tried Valentine, the result was so wrong that the CT artist told me to take it off, haha! But Pillow Talk is lovely indeed.

  • emmmilyyy

Oh my gosh, Pillowtalk looks absolutely stunning on you, Sabrina! It’s just perfect. I ordered both of these (should be here later today!) but got two of Pillowtalk because I was convinced I’d love it. Seeing your swatches and your great review makes me feel like that was definitely a good decision! I’m not a huge fan of baby pink cool lipsticks so we’ll see how Valentine turns out (if something is Charlotte Tilbury and LE, there’s very little that would keep me from purchasing!) It doesn’t look as blue based as Liv It Up which is good to see – it can be tricky wearing that shade of pink as I find it can look very Malibu Barbie on me!

On a separate note, I’ve been using the new Tatcha Essence for about 3 weeks now and I’m just not overwhelmed by it. I wouldn’t say it’s a dud but I feel a little disappointed. It doesn’t leave my skin feeling as plump and hydrated as other essences, On the plus side (for some people at least!), it doesn’t have Tatcha’s signature scent so I can see it working for those who don’t like fragrance in their products. I do happen to like the Tatcha fragrance so I definitely noticed its absence.

I think if you still haven’t decided which to review first, I’d be really curious to hear your thoughts about the new La Mer Essence! I will probably finish the Tatcha but will be looking for a replacement after that ๐Ÿ™‚

I have to agree with most here. Charlotte TIlbury’s products just don’t quite seem to hold up. I do however think that Pillow Talk, the lipliner, is a holy grail product for me.
So based on that I just might try the new lipstick.

  • Pillow Talk is so pretty!! Can’t wait to purchase this! Thanks for your amazing review as always!
