Clé de Peau Beauté Radiant Liquid Rouge Review

Clé de Peau Beauté launched a new lip product for fall called Radiant Liquid Rouge ($48 each for 5.5 ml/0.18 oz). These are luxurious lip lacquers with medium-full rich coverage and a glossy sheen. The texture is smooth and once they set on the lips they thicken a bit into a more gel-like finish. I picked up four shades at the counter, neutrals/natural shades of course in 11, 12, 13 and 14. For those curious about the other shades in the lineup, Bubbly Michelle has the entire collection for fall swatched (8 lip colors total).

The Radiant Liquid Rouge comes with a sponge-tip applicator in a very sturdy tube. I’m not entirely sure what the base packaging is made of but it feels like it could be glass. The colors I picked are suitable for everyday wear if you like natural colors. They do have a soft perfumed scent but it’s not too strong. Lasting power wise they stay put relatively well for a liquid lip lacquer and fade evenly. They have a hydrating feel to them although I am not sure they have any skincare properties in them.
  • 11 is a peachy beige cream. It does take a bit of blending and swiping on my pigmented lips to smooth out. I apply one layer, let it set, and then apply a second thin layer to smooth out the color. A lip brush can also help.
  • 12 is a medium rose brown cream, on my complexion it pulls a bit warmer, but on my arm it’s more of a neutral kind of shade
  • 13 is a cool shimmering rose. This pulls bright and slightly cool but has enough rose to balance out the cool undertone.
  • 14 is a pinky peach cream. This is the only one I had issues with streaks but I suspect those with lighter lip tones or those who can easily wear these kinds of colors will have no issue. For me this is one of those super high-maintenance shades that contrasts with my natural lip tone and therefore looks streaky. I personally prefer the Dior Addict Fluid Stick in Tiny Pink which is similar but less streaky on my lips.
A look at the shades in sunlight to better show the colors:

Two sets of comparison swatches in an attempt to find dupes:

Set two of swatch comparisons:

Out of all the shades I bought, I am most smitten with 11 the nude peach beige and 13 the shimmering pink rose. 12 is nice to have and I suspect better suited for fall due to the brown undertones. 14 is high maintenance for me – it takes a lot of work to get streak-free, but once it’s properly blended on my lips the color is really pretty. I don’t own a lot of Cle de Peau items – I tend to avoid the line because of the high price points, but I’ve been happy with everything I have tried from the line. The Cotton Pads are among the best I’ve tried (why I think so in this post here) and it’s one I will never stop buying (it’s well worth the splurge, although they have gone up in price since I reviewed them).

While at the counter I was seriously tempted by the new Luminizing Face Enhancer in Almond. It had a really pretty glowy sheen to it. I have a few other shades that I’ve bought and really like. I stick to my original assessment that I think the price point is just too much (even if you just buy the refills) but it’s one of those products I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with if you splurge. Given the vast number of highlighters I own I decided to pass.

As for the Radiant Liquid Rouge, I think one or two are well worth the splurge. The formula and pigment is top notch and I can’t really fault 14 because of my pigmented lips. As fall collections and launches start to trickle in, I’m sure there will be a number of new lip products coming out. Fall always seems to be the season for new lip formulas. You may want to wait a few weeks as September is just around the corner when most of the fall collections will be out.

I’ll be reviewing my picks from the Louboutin Loubilaque line soon, quick takeaway to compare the Louboutin vs Cle de Peau Beaute is that I prefer the Louboutin finish and coverage, but both are really good.

You can find the Clé de Peau Beauté Radiant Liquid Rouge now. Available at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and Clé de Peau Beauté.

Have you tried these yet? What colors did you test or buy?

  • Your swatches are just so perfect!
And that's so funny, I JUST bought one of these yesterday. #15 which is the purple/violet color. I thought it would be WAAAAY to purple for me, but it's actually a sheerish orchid that was really quite flattering. Reminds me of the LOC purple reign lip pencil you just reviewed. So often with lip colors you really just have to try them on or you'll never know. (I still have to remind myself that every now and then)

  • These are pretty. Have you tried the new Chanel Rouge Allure Ink? And could you compare them?

    • I have not seen them yet!

  • These look amazing, the packaging is so classy!

  • I'm head over heals in love with this formulation. As I mentioned in your On My Radar post a couple of days ago, I purchased this in #11 Lingerie, #13 Flushed, and #14 Sequin. They are so smooth on my lips and they don't migrate into my lip lines. They're also hydrating and the comfortable wear time is impressive for this type of lipstick. Yes, they are expensive but then I've worn CdP lipstick for years and think that they are worth it. The rich colors hydrate my chronically dry lips and never irritate them in any way. CdP for the win! 🙂

    Hi Soni,

I know the one you got. I think it's called Fast Lane and it is gorgeous. I regret that I gave it a miss when I was at the counter because since then I've seen some really beautiful swatches of it. Perhaps the next time I'm in the Valley I can take a look 🙂

    • Hi Eileen,
I almost gave it a pass as well…so glad I didn't. I totally agree with you about this formulation. I'm in love! I'm definitely going back for #18? I think that was the darker red/berry one. My friend tried it on & it was a gorgeous sheer color on her. I also want the charcoal/black cream shadow. I swatched it on my hand & it was gorgeous! So perfect for fall/winter.
Fortunately (unfortunately for my wallet) I have a CdP counter across the street from work in a Japanese market.
      Have a great week!

    • Hi Soni,

I was in the Valley today and picked up that gorgeous #15 🙂 You're right, it is simply stunning on. I hope CdP keeps this formula around for awhile. It's a winner.

    • Hi Eileen – love your picks!

  • Wow, the colors are gorgeous and so glossy – I will have to check them out!

All colors look gorgeous on you.

I bought #11 and #12 the other day in Japan. They are sold out on a couple of colors like #13 which I would have purchased if it is available. I was intrigued by the highlighter #16 Almond too. I already have a few highlighters from CDP and they are all excellent. I think I am going to get it when the new foundation launches officially in Japan next week.

  • Please review the new Hourglass mascara!!

I bought 12 and 13 when they first launched on the CdP website on faith that they'd be amazing – and they are. I ended up buying 15 at the counter; I was surprised how wearable the color was. Initially I thought it would be much to bright for me, but it's lovely. I'm eyeing one of the Reds; though I'm not 100% wearing red lips yet.

    • Love your picks! I feel the same way about reds 🙂

  • Beautiful packaging and colors!! Now I want to get some!!

    Dear Sabrina,
You often mention that your lips are very pigmented. I also have very pigmented lips and yet you are able to wear nude colors that are terrible on me. Tell me, do you prep with concealer or foundation when wearing the lighter colors?
    Thanks,

    • Anonymous – your lips are probably just a lot darker than mine. I've mentioned it in numerous posts but I always swatch lipsticks and glosses on bare clean lips – no liner, concealer or foundation to prep.

Nudes can be tricky to pull off! So many look good on my friends but look like death on me.

I'm also assuming your skintone is not the same as mine? If you can give me a reference point on your skintone with a few foundations and shades you use I can try to point you in a nude lip direction.

Thank you! That would be really helpful! I am NC-20 and so many nudes make me look dead. So far the only "nude" I've found that seems wearable is either a rosy color or also the newest Tom Ford Black Orchid Collection–can't remember the name of the lighter one but there are only two so you will know which one I mean. You might think this is not much of a problem to have (in the scheme of things) but I would like just one nude look that didn't wash me out totally.
      Thanks again.

    • Hmmm … I think we have different definitions of "nude." I attribute nude to something beige or flesh toned. If you like rosy colors or the Tom Ford Lip Color you mentioned, sounds like your version of nude is more pink or mauve?

You may want to check out Charlotte Tilbury Very Victoria, MAC Cosmo, MAC Velvet Teddy, MAC Brave?

  • Love how 13 looks on you! And i'm eyeing 11 & 14 too. Not sure if I needed it but I think i'll try them again at the counter 🙂
P.S- Thank you for linking to my post <3
    Happy Monday!
