What's In My Bag

Inside My Makeup Bag

December 18, 2013

Mid-December’s edition of Inside My Makeup Bag. I’ve been lugging around quite a bit of makeup in a medium-sized leather zip clutch from Rebecca Minkoff (Neiman Marcus gift with purchase from a few months ago).

MAC Trace Gold Sheertone Shimmer Blush (1) has been a staple for years. It’s a shimmering golden bronze. These days I find it to be a versatile bronzer/blush/shimmer highlighter multi-use product. Chanel Les Beiges in No. 20 is my go-to all over setting powder these days. (See review of three shades here, swatches here.)
For skin I’ve almost used up my third tube of L’Occitane Amande Hand Cream (2). It has a strong sweet floral fragrance so if your nose is super sensitive you may want to check out their regular Shea version instead. My little travel-sized Caudalie Divine Oil (8) is half-way used up, I’ll need a replacement for my purse soon. (Previous review here.)
For lips, a current staple lip balm is Jo Malone’s Vitamin E Lip Treatment (3). (Reviewed here.) I almost always have a Chanel Glossimer (4) in my bag, right now I have Bon-Bon a sheer light pink gold. Tom Ford Sugar Pink Lip Gloss (5) is a classic hot but sheer pink to add a soft fresh glow to the lips. (Swatched here.) Chanel Rouge Coco Shines are a must-have for everyday swipe-and-go lipsticks. Bel-Ami (12) and Boy (13) layer nicely together.

I’ve been alternating perfumes almost daily, right now I’m smitten with Bond No. 9 Chinatown Bon-Bon (7).

I’ve just opened up a fresh tube of NARS Larger Than Life Volumizing Mascara (6) which is one of my favorites for volume and holding the curl. I rarely touch-up on eyeshadows during the day but they still manage to find their way into my bag. I have NARS All About Eve (9) and Cordura Duos (14), both are staple neutrals. If I could only have 4 eyeshadow colors these would be it.
Laura Mercier mini brushes from one of her palettes are among the best I’ve tried for minis (10). I wish more brands made short-handled versions of their brushes to be purse-friendly. Le Metier de Beaute Blush Brush (11) is the perfect size for me without being too small.

What’s in your makeup bag right now?

  • That Tom Ford Sugar Pink lipgloss looks amazing! I just ordered L'Occitane hand cream in the Shea version but I like sweet floral scents so I'll have to check out the one featured in your post sometime πŸ™‚

The Tom Ford gloss looks gorgeous!!!!! I am wondering what you use the Caudalie oil for? I have a Palmer's Cocoa Butter body oil which I love. I usually put it on after I get out of the shower, but I have never carried it with me. Just curious πŸ˜‰

    • Hi Janet,

I carry Tatcha beauty oil as an all purpose moisturizer and protectant. I like to use a drop on my hands and nails a couple times a day to keep my nails and cuticles in good condition. A drop rubbed on my palms and then spread through my hair combats frizz and smooths my hair on dry and windy days. I have dry skin so if I've been out and about, then midway through the day I like to pat a small drop over my face and neck. It quells dryness without disturbing my makeup. There are just so many things you can do with an ultra fine beauty oil and, if it has a light and heavenly scent, so much the better. In short, you can use it however you want to use it πŸ™‚

  • It's always fun to take a peek inside your makeup bag because you have such excellent taste, Sabrina. Since retiring, I've considerably lightened the load and usually only carry Jack Black lip balm, a lipstick and/or gloss, and small containers of CrΓ¨me de Corps, sunscreen, and hand sanitizer. When those Santa Ana winds sweep through the LA basin, as they have recently, I also always carry Tatcha beauty oil for a bit of extra TLC whenever I need it. I transfer it to a small dropper bottle as I don't like carrying the full sized bottle around with me. I try to travel light πŸ™‚

  • Chanel Le Beige, Boy Cordura… some of my all time favourites!
    Great picks.
I would love to try out that Ja Malone lippy one day.

  • Lovely picks!!! I've been carrying most Guerlain lately, bronzer, blushes, lipsticks and lipgloss (I'm wondering why Gloss d'Enfer doesnt' get much more love in the blogosphere). I guess the only non Guerlain item is my Crabtree & Evelyn Rosewater hand cream, I just love the entire line!!!

  • Love so many of these, perfect make up bag choices!

  • I love the L'Occitane hand creams, they're the best!!

Hi Sabrina! Love these reviews:)! Thank you! The only thing we have in common this time is Rebecca Minkoff makeup bag! :))) I love both mine. I actually managed to get 2 during that event in Neiman. But its kind of strange, one has a glossy look to the leather, and the second more mat. Anyway, this is my most favoirite bag up to date:)))

  • Hi Sabrina! I love your what's in your makeup bag πŸ™‚ Hope you can do more of this cos this is so inspiring πŸ˜€

  • I just love it when you show your favorites and what and how you use products that you take with you. Because of you I have discovered the Caudalie Oil, and the Drybar Chaser. I feel so special when I use them (the smell! the results!), and "current", if you will. Keep up your wonderful blog and thank you for being here!! Merry Christmas, happy holidays and have a great new year. xo Susan
