Burberry Gold Pearl No. 26 Eye Shadow

Burberry Beauty has released one new eye shadow for spring called Gold Pearl No. 26 ($29 for 2.5 g/0.088 oz, made in Italy). It’s a pale yellow gold that is different from any other Burberry shadow I’ve tried. Gold Pearl is a super-sheer gold. The base is a pale yellow but barely shows up on the skin. When applied, all you really see is gold shimmer. This color requires a moist base to prevent it from looking chalky. Applying this with a brush results in a soft dusting of gold micro-glitters. I’ve played with this color for about a week now – I don’t really like it but I don’t hate it. It’s a pretty gold shade for a dusting of shimmer and very different from Burberry shadows in general. I like variety of textures, pigments and finishes – it’s just not quite what I expected. At this point, I’m still undecided.

Here it is swatched several ways, it was really hard to photograph due to the sheer/sparkly nature. Do check out other blogs for other views – on the arm here it just looks all chalky and sparkly. Over a base and applied heavy the pale yellow base shows up more but it looks chalky.
Comparisons by request to a few others: Burberry Trench, Gold Trench, Pale Nude Quad (*second yellowy shade swatched only), Chanel Eclaire and MAC Gold Dusk Pigment (discontinued):
Have you tried Burberry’s Gold Pearl Eyeshadow? What did you think? Did it work for your skintone? Burberry’s spring line is now available at select Nordstrom counters and Nordstrom online. I ordered my items from Nordstrom San Francisco.

It's a pretty gold, not too yellow or pale. I'm thinking of using it as a highlighter. Great swatches Sabrina!

Hi Sabrina, what an unexpected finish — I was surprised by your swatches as well. Gold Pearl seems to be like one of those shades that might give slight luminosity in a 'no makeup' kind of look.

Love all your thoughtful comments 🙂 It does appear to be a good luminous no-makeup look kind of shadow, unfortunately the gold sparkle kinda stands out as micro glitters on the eyes. I can't decide if it's too glitzy or just the right amount to give a luminous glow. I might just be looking too closely at the shimmer/glitter though. I think I've been thinking about this shadow too much. LOL.

Great swatches. Your swatches really are fantastic. I'm not sure about Gold Pearl but now I'm taking a second look at the Gold Trench. It looks beautiful. Do you know anything about Pale Barley? I keep reading conflicting things about whether or not it's LE or perm. I can't believe I waited so long!

Great question. I think we've all been wondering the same about Pale Barley! I really do hope it's permanent. I asked Nordstrom Beauty CS and they said they didn't see anything indicating it was discontinued or limited but at the same time they didn't see anything on their shipment forms saying when it would be back in stock. I spoke with a Burberry rep as well – she expressed the same frustration, she said they weren't telling them anything. I'll update a note on the blog as soon as I find out anything.

I have also been wondering about this. I have email them twice and each time they were vague. The said "with the entrance of the new season and collection, it appears that pale barley is not currently available." Whatever that means. Then they suggested gold trench as a "very near alternative." I don't think so.

I tend to enjoy a bit of oomph and pigmentation richness in my eye shadows, so I did pass by this particular item. Thank you for all the comparison swatches!

It looks like NARS Gold Rush Pressed Powder Finishing Powder when used with a damp brush. I sometimes use it as a eyeshadow for that 'no makeup' look Dovey referred to.

Lovely swatches! I seemed to be visiting your blog more and more because of your beautiful photography and thorough posts. You answer questions that I haven't even thought to ask yet.

I like this – I like glitter for the right occasion – but it's not worth the Burberry pricetag for me. Thank you for the swatches!

Tried this but passed. Too glittery for my taste, or maybe it just looks glittery in the indoor dept. store lighting (you know sometimes it does that). Nice pictures, Sabrina!

I am going back and forth on wanting to get this. I have to say, I wish they would have come out with at least one more e/s color this spring! Glitter, though? Does it have fall out? It looks so brightening in the pan on your blog here, but it seems like it transfers only as glittery on the lid. Oooh, I want to like this, but it isn't sounding too good! :/

It reminds me of Shu Uemura G Gold eyeshadow but with a chalky matte base… if anyone here likes the glitter part but isn't keen on the base colour then I recommend that.

I ordered it the other day and am regretting after seeing your review. Sigh

I love my Burberry Gold Pearl. It is quite sheer, a bit yellow on the skin but very faintly. I like it because it cancels out redness and makes the skin look better. The gold sparkles are of different sizes, none of them are huge though. Gives a beautiful soft natural shimmer. It is not at all chalky on me but I have fair skin. I'm very pleased with this.

I reviewed this recently and was unimpressed, I don't feel like it has the same quality as my other Burberry shadows in terms of texture/pigment, though I do find it brightens the eye area well.

I own this shade… Unfortunatly I don't love it… Unlike my other burberry shadows this was a miss. Although I was unimpressed with trench so perhaps I'm just not into the chalky look. Both looked chalky on me.

It looks so promising in the pan – it's too bad it doesn't perform that well. Thanks for the review!

Oh dear, oh dear…I swatched this today, and it didn't seem like a Burberry eye shadow at all! Not sure what happened when they put this one together. Hopefully the next new shadow will be like the other ones. I LOVE Burberry eye shadows (I have about 15!) so much, I really wanted to like this!

I was not too sure about this eyeshadow. On line it looked beautiful. When it arrived by mail, I put it on with a brush and had fallout all over my cheeks, I was not happy. I wrote Nordstrom beauty advisers with the problem. It was suggested to use it as a base, then Gold Trench on lid or Mulberry. I did that today, Gold Pearl all over using my finger (just pat it on), Gold Trench on lid, Mulberry in crease and to line. I like it and will keep it. Midnight Blue was suggested also to line but I do not have it.
I am in my early 50's and I read your blog everyday. Love it!

Hmm… this is a lot different than I was expecting. Not something I would get much use from, personally.
