Le Metier de Beaute Nail Lacquers & Bergdorf Goodman Smart Beauty Event

June 28, 2009

Many know I am a huge fan of Le Metier de Beaute for their high quality and gorgeous colors. Click HERE for a previous post on the lip glosses, lip cremes, and lipsticks.

FYI, Bergdorfs is having a gift with purchase event. The bag is really cute and it comes with a full size Le Metier Eye Liner and Kevyn Aucoin Shadow Pencil. Click HERE for the details from the Bergdorf Goodman website.

Back to the subject of Le Metier, my newest acquisitions include the new nail lacquers. The description per Bergdorf/Neiman Marcus online:

“Specifically formulated without formaldehyde, toluene and dibutyl phthalate (DPB), Le Metier de Beaute Nail Lacquers provide long-lasting, chip resistant, protective color and shine. Fortified with strengthening proteins and hydrators, Le Metier de Beaute Nail Lacquers delivers rich, glossy, long-wearing color . . . Benefits include truly intense, multi-dimensional color, resists chipping up to 14 days, and won’t fade, dull or streak, even in strong sunlight.”

I have loved everything I have purchased from Le Metier, however the new nail lacquers are somewhat disappointing. Priced at $15 each, the bottles are so tiny, they are smaller than those NARS mini bottles with about 1/2 the amount of product. The colors are pretty – but . . . I’m not totally in love, mainly because of the size.

Here are four of the colors, Lenton Rose is a shimmery gold, Phlox is a shimmery lilac, Violaceous Splendor is a complex purple-eggplant, Black Orchid is a deep purple:

Also featured from the July 2009 issue of InStyle – the Pink Peony shade which looks like a really cute pink:

Disappointments aside – I have heard from a few sources (who are not Le Metier artists or Neimans employees) that the color does indeed last a long time and that the formula is chip resistant, so you might be getting more for your $$ because of the quality.

* UPDATE on June 29* I just tried one coat of the Phlox on 2 fingers and the formula *IS* truly amazing. One coat was all I needed for a rich, streak-free, high shine color – even my other favorite brands (OPI, Chanel, RBL) need 2 coats. This is by far the best formula of nail polish that I’ve ever tried. That being said, even though I’ll only need one coat per manicure, the bottles are still so tiny it will definitely make me wait to see them in person before I order anymore.

Also, I’d like to ask that those of you who read this blog, please do not use my photos on your own websites without permission. Thank you!

Rescue Beauty Lounge

June 5, 2009

I’ve been a huge fan of Rescue Beauty Lounge Nail Polishes ever since I first saw them in a little beauty boutique in Boston for their range or pretty nude and pink nail polishes. The line was created by Ji Baek who has also opened up two Rescue Beauty Lounge luxury salons in New York.

I ordered a few shades online, two gorgeous reds and two pretty lighter shimmers. It appears the Rescue Beauty website has recently been revamped a bit so the pictures of the nail lacquers make it easier for you to see what they really look like. She has cute descriptions of each shade as well. They each retail for $18.

Left to right: Killa Red, Cherry Love, Ani, Leila

Swatches are here:

Killa Red is described as “This is the cool blue-toned red worn by those dangerous blondes in Hitchcock films (while they reach for the gun in their slim kelly green alligator clutch.)”

Cherry Love is described as “Popsicle-fuschia, the love child of hot pink and sizzling red. When pink is too tame and red is too expected, give this glamorous shade a try.” To me, Cherry Love is just more cool/blue toned than Killa Red.

Ani is described as “A shimmery, semi-transparent golden beige . . . Slightly bohemian, so pile on a stack of jangly bracelets.”

Leila is a soft shimmery pale lavender color (note: the website description has been removed, they are probably still updating the website).

I ordered these shades online and am very happy with the quality and finish. I can’t wait to try out more shades!

Chanel Nail Polishes: The Instant Pick-Me-Up!

May 27, 2009

I’m a huge fan of Chanel Nail Polishes and am addicted to collecting them. Pedicures are my no-fail stress-reliever and can instantly brighten my mood, especially with any of Chanel’s pretty colors.

One of the reasons I love Chanel is they seems to be one of the few lines that has maintained the same classic packaging of most their makeup items. I appreciate re-vamps and product improvements (for example, I think Dior has done a fabulous makeover on their products changing their image from old-lady scents/packaging to sleek and modern). However, it is nice to have some consistency with packaging. The artists who design these colors are pure genius, since most of the shades seem to be universally flattering.

Here are the colors I’ve collected, along with some NARS and Dior shades mixed in. Unfortunately, many of these shades are no longer available. A few, like Violette and Red Dream were CPs from overseas. (*NOTE – all pictures are clickable for larger viewing.)

* Dior Porcelain #189

* NARS Gimme Shelter

* NARS Saratoga

Lunasol Quads

May 20, 2009

My current obsessions include hard-to-find items, particularly the eyeshadow quads from Lunasol, a Japanese Makeup Brand made by Kanebo Cosmetics. I was lucky enough that my sweet sister picked up some items for me while she was in Japan earlier in the spring.

The brand concept is geared towards the Refined Woman. They have several different kinds of eyeshadow categories, their English website is at http://www.lunasol-net.com/en/index.html.

Skin Modeling Eyes: 01 Beige Beige, a gorgeous combination of beige-based colors. All shades have shimmer, the pale champagne and chocolate are the most shimmery, the two beige colors have more of a satiny finish.

Lighting for Eyes: 04 Neutral, each quad in this series features a “jewelry powder” which is a super sparkley shadow (in this one, the bottom right shade). A gorgeous combination of silvery taupes.

Scent Form Eyes: 05 Chocolate Cosmos, my personal favorite, soft velvety texture and rich pigment.

Nail Polish: 19 Cool Beige, a sparkly neutral light beige, rich pigment, 1 coat is sufficient.

My review on these items: these are among the best shadows I’ve tried. They have a similar texture to the MAC Starflash Shadows and Urban Decay Shimmer Shadows, soft and velvety and super easy to blend. I find the Lunasol shades to all be very pigmented, both the light and dark. Can’t wait to try more from this line.
