New Dior 1-Colour Ultra-Smoothing High Impact Eyeshadows

September 1, 2009

Dior just released a collection of single eyeshadows in a new formula called “1-Couleur Ultra-Smooth High Impact Eyeshadow,” retailing for $27.50. Dior released a few in the new formula in Argentic 056 & Trendy Taupe 066 with their fall 2009 Jazz Club collection in the US.

I bought these from Sephora.com because of the “ONLY AT SEPHORA” note beside each shade, but it seems like Sephora simply received the new eyeshadows first (similar to the release of the reformulated Addict Lip Color where they received the lipsticks first before other retailers like Nordstrom & Bloomingdales) since today, I now see the shades available at Nordstrom.com.

Nordstrom.com describes the product saying, “Dior takes shadow play to extremes with Color Extreme powder eyeshadow singles. Maximum color. Maximum wear. In a single sweep they’re on to stay for hours. The new innovative eyeshadow uses a new Japanese slurry powder process to create a formula that delivers maximum color payoff and extreme hold in just one coat.”

Sephora.com has decent product photos and color descriptions.

I ended up purchasing two of the shades Bronzy Night 486 and Beige Print 626. I had purchased Argentic 056 when the fall collection came out.

Additional product photos, swatches and scans/pictures from various magazines.

Swatches compared to a few other singles from the original single eyeshadow line:

1. Argentic (new formula)
2. Bronzy Night (new formula)
3. Beige Print (new formula)
4. Beige Sunshine (original formula for single shadows)
5. Brown Sequins (original formula for single shadows)

From Oggi October 2009:
* Item #2 is Nude Luminescence 516
* Item #3 is Infra-Rose 826

From Biteki September 2009:

* Item #2 is Beige Print 626

From Biteki September 2009:
* Item #1 is Gold Touch 546
* Item #2 is Trendy Taupe 066

These come in the same size compact as the One-Colour Eyeshadow which retail for $25.00, I don’t know what the difference is in formula that would justify the higher price tag of $27.50 (which I think is really steep). I will have to play around with the colors a bit more to see exactly what the difference is, but initially, it seems that the new formula is more shimmery and the texture is highly pigmented and slightly creamy versus powdery like traditional eyeshadows.

Overall I’m really pleased with the pigmentation and the shimmer is finely milled so it’s not over the top or too subtle. I will definitely be on the lookout for the product instores to test out the other colors like Nude Luminescence, Ultra Violet & Brown Fever.

Bobbi Brown ‘Pewter’ Metallic Eye Set (Nordstrom Exclusive)

August 29, 2009

I first saw the new Bobbi Brown Pewter Metallic Eye Set on Nordstrom.com about a month ago and immediately inquired about it at several stores while I was in Seattle & Portland and also when I got back home. I was told that it wouldn’t be released until October for the Nordstrom Trend Shows. I finally caved in and ordered it online and here it is (retails for $40):

At this time I am not quite sure if this Pewter Metallic Eyeshadow will be the same as the Pewter Chrome Eyeshadow that will be released with the Chrome Collection in October (details and photos at PinkMelon). All I know is that the packaging material is different – the metallic one from nordstrom is in the regular black compact while the chrome looks like it will be in the same size/shape of compact, but a different color to go along with the chrome theme.

Overall thoughts: the Pewter Metallic Shadow is absolutely gorgeous. It’s an extremely complex taupey/silvery/pewter shimmer shade with a hint of gold tones. If you’re a Bobbi Brown fan, I highly recommend checking this out at your local Nordstrom counter!

Chanel White Whisper Quadra Eyeshadow & Blanc Petale Nail Colour

August 25, 2009

I just received two of the items from the Symphonie Blanche de Chanel Collection, White Whisper Quadra Eyeshadow & Blanc Petale Nail Colour from Chanel.com. I have the Fleurs face highlighting powder coming in the mail at the end of this week, but couldn’t wait to upload pics of these two items.

Check just a couple posts down for the promotional info about the collection or click Chanel Symphonie Blanche de Chanel Collection for more details. It looks like the palette is out of stock on the Chanel website, but check Neimanmarcus.com, select Chanel Boutiques like the ones in NY, Beverly Hills, Las Vegas, and Chanel Beauty Studios like the ones at South Coast Plaza Bloomingdales.

Blanc Petale is described as a crisp white which I feel is accurate. It has a slight pearl finish but still shows up a pure white. I’ve swatched it next to White Satin which was limited edition Spring 2008. I’m a bit undecided about this since it’s such a bright white – I’m not sure whether it will be more for a mani or pedi.

Two views, this one shows the difference better in the nail swatch:

This one shows the difference in color in the actual bottles:

White Whisper Quadra Eyeshadow is described as having silver pink, pearly white, light gold, dark silver shades. I agree with all the shade descriptions, except the “dark silver” is more like a satin charcoal shade. It’s more on the matte side, but not fully matte.

I really like the pigmentation and the colors in this quad are stunning. Please pardon the blurry swatches, it was hard to photograph the swatches without all the shades looking exactly the same.

A Few Items from Benefit: Thrrrob, Dandelion & Fawn Over Me

August 21, 2009

I’m fairly new to Benefit. I’ve tried numerous items in the past, but have avoided the line like crazy because of overly pushy sales reps that pounce on you as soon as you walk in the door of a department store, so I usually check out the items at Sephora where I can try out colors at my own pace. I picked up a few items to redeem my beauty insider points for the mini Lady’s Choice Lipstick which I love for a cute non-shimmery nude pink shade.

Came home with Thrrrob & Dandelion after having a good experience with Coralista. Both are on the sheerer side for me but give a nice subtle glow. Not too crazy about the packaging (feels like it will get dirty easily) or price (I feel $28 is overpriced for Benefit).

Also picked up Fawn Over Me Eyeshadow after having good results with Rich Beach eyeshadow. These are soft and highly pigmented. I definitely recommend you check the rest of the shadows out! Fawn Over Me is a pretty neutral beige shimmer.

Fawn Over Me compared to a couple other beigey shimmers.

Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Preview

August 10, 2009

I just received my September Issue of THE BOOK from Neiman Marcus. Inside their beauty spot feature this month they have revealed the names of the long-awaited upcoming Eyes To Kill Palettes: Steel Black, Gunmetal Gray, Rouge Iron, and Brown Copper. Each retail for $58.

Scan from September’s Beauty Spot:

I’ve also seen the pictures of the red palette in last month’s Marie Claire. Based on the above scans, I’m not quite sure what to make of the purple palette. InStyle’s photo definitely makes the purple look more on the deep/plum side while Neiman’s promo photo shows a lighter more vibrant purple.

Guess we’ll have to wait and see when it comes out.

Currently, Armani has their Manta Ray Collection out for fall. For pics, check out this post Giorgio Armani Fall 2009: Manta Ray Collection. One of my favorite beauty bloggers, Karen, has also posted a review and pics of some of the items she purchased at Makeup and Beauty Blog, Armani Beauty Manta Ray Fall 2009: Like a Gray of Light.

Also new out for Armani is their Eyes to Kill Mascara, and New Maestro Single Eyeshadows have been trickling in stores, but have yet to be seen online anywhere. As far as I know, not all stores have received the new shades, and different stores have different shades in their stock. Armani is in the process of discontinuing their original formula eyeshadow and has replaced them with their Maestro Formula. For more details, check out these articles:

Mini YSL Fall 2009 Haul + Review

July 31, 2009

YSL fall was a disappointment for me – I checked out the new colors (except the gloss volupte which they did not have yet) and came home with 2 items, and then returned the eyeshadow duo the next day. The remaining colors just weren’t me, and didn’t seem coordinated at all.

Pictured below Ombres Duolumières #23 Pearly Peach-Mink Brown and Crème de Blush #02 Powdery Rose:

Swatches, #02 Blush on bare skin, #23 Eyeshadow Duo over Laura Mercier Eye Basics

The blush while a pretty pink is extremely tiny for the price of $39 USD. The eyeshadow duo was chalky and had very little pigment, the swatches were applied very heavily over a cream eyeshadow base while it was still moist. When applied to the eyes with the same technique, it barely showed up.

I also checked out the new Rouge Volupté Lipsticks which weren’t my style either. The lightest one was #19 Frivolous Pink which looked like a neon powdery pink, extremely unflattering in my opinion. The others were very brown/plum.

Unless you’re a die hard YSL fan, I’d suggest you save your $$$ for other items.

Nars Eye Palettes = Pure Love

July 31, 2009

Nars has released several gorgeous 6 color palettes with some great combinations of already-existing shades making these great for travel. I typically have a hard time finding palettes where I love every shade but Nars has released some great palettes with enough neutrals for me to fall completely head over heels.

Another great thing about these palettes is that you can often find some with one share from some of the duos. For example, Modern Love Palette has that gorgeous plum shimmer side of Habanera Eyeshadow Duo which I would have never bought individually because I can’t wear greens. Same goes for the new Essential Eye Palette which has that pretty cream champagne side of Unconditional Love Cream Eyeshadow Duo. My only gripe about these is their limited edition factor and the rubber packaging can easily get dirty and sticky if not super careful with them. Also, I’d love to see some with new exclusive shades, maybe as a preview for what’s coming up next mixed in with existing shades.

Here are the three that I own:

Essential Eye Palette #9952 (currently available online at Neiman Marcus)

Top Row: Unconditional Love, Night Star, Galapagos
Bottom Row: Nepal, Ondine, Thunderball

Modern Love Palette #9950 (currently a Nordstrom Beauty Exclusive, but expected to be back for sale at narscosmetics.com in the near future – as of now, it’s no longer online at Nordstrom, but there’s a good chance their beauty locator can try and find one for you instore and have it shipped to you)

Top Row: Alhambra, Jezebel, India Song
Bottom Row: Tokyo, Habanera, Pandora

Nars Best Palette #9944

Top Row: Bellissima I, All About Eve II, Bali
Bottom Row: All About Eve I, Kalahari I, Kalahari II
