Edward Bess has released four new lip stains called Lasting Kiss ($36 each for 0.49 oz/14.5 g, made in USA). These are liquid lip colors that have intense pigment and impressive staying power. They are full-coverage and all shades are without shimmer. The finish is in between satin and velvet, it has a very slight sheen to the finish which prevents them from looking flat (like some matte or full coverage lip creams can do). These come with Edward’s classic fig scent which I’m a huge fan of.
The Lasting Kiss Lip Stains come in a sleek black tube with a slightly angled sponge applicator. The tip is quite study but not stiff. It allows for precise application around the edges of the lips. The four colors include:
- Risque which is a bright coral pink
- Au Naturel which is a neutral-cool nude pink
- Surrender is a cool blue-based baby pink
- Deep in Love is a medium-bright plum rose
The colors are quite intense. They are vibrant shades which will be great for those who like color. I’m a nude/neutral lip lover at heart, so of course I fell in love with Au Naturel. Straight from the sponge tip, these go on the lips with super rich color. The color stays put once applied and doesn’t budge. If you layer on like a gloss or lipstick, you will find some of the color might transfer to a cup if you drink something shortly afterwards. However these are lip stains and you will still see the color stay put on your lips. I haven’t found anything that lasts as long as these do.
Swatches below on the arm with a heavy swatch and then a blended swatch. You can blot the lips after application for a more stained lip look. I find they apply very smoothly on the lips straight from the tube and require only a tiny bit of blending around the edges.
Swatches on the lips straight from the tube with the sponge applicator. Note that my lips pull cool-toned colors weird. Most of the women I know can easily pull off cool-toned pinks beautifully. On me they tend to turn fuchsia-ish (like with Surrender). For skin tone reference, I used Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet in B30 (swatches and review here).
My top two picks are Au Naturel and Deep In Love. Due to the rich pigment of these I find you do need to take a bit of care in applying precisely around the edges of the lips. If you’re looking for a bold lip or something that lasts on the lips for what seems like forever, these are definitely worth looking into. If you’re a more natural lip lover or want something deeper and less bright, I highly recommend Edward Bess’s Ultra Slick Lipsticks.
Bottom line love. In my mind Edward can do no wrong, I’ve been smitten with (and devoted to) his line for years. You can find the Lasting Kiss Enhancing Lip Stains at Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman and edwardbess.com. These are also available now at BG in NYC (ask for Lauren 212-872-8826) and Neiman Marcus Beverly Hills (ask for Morgan at the counter 310-550-5900).
The lip stains were kindly sent from Edward for review consideration.

Surrender looks like my kinda shade! Thanks for sharing

Hey Sabrina, thanks for featuring these! Risque and Deep in Love are my favorites as well! However, I might have to skip, because I am not a fan of the fig scent. I had one lipstick from the brand but ended up giving it away, because the fig scent bothered me more than I thought it would.
Hi Sunny! Glad you liked the swatches, but if you have a sensitive nose, then I completely understand! I can't wear the traditional EL or Lancome lipsticks often because the scent is too much for me.
I can't believe I've yet to buy anything of his! I always covet something you share when you do an EB post; the products are beautiful and unique. I guess my wishlist is always so long and his stuff is a little less accessible to me than the rest. I will have to make note to add something in the future. And I agree, your favorites are my favorites–so pretty on you!
Off topic. I know you have gobs of products to cover (in fact, I don't actually know how you do it with so much product to try! I am personally overwhelmed with all that I have and it doesn't compare;) I just wondered if anything really stood out to you from the SpakeNK gift with purchase. There are some really unique products (and nice sizes) in that massive bag! Laughing..some I had to go and look up to find out what to do with them and learn a bit about the brand as I cannot even tell if something is a face cream, hand cream, etc:) Feeling overwhelmed with all of my recent purchases and the many GWP items that come with, made me think of you. I don't know how you try so many things and what do you DO with it all?? LOL!
Love all the shades, but I definitely liked Surrender the most!
Thank you for these swatches; you have prevented me from spending my money on them. For whatever reason, his lip products pull either orange (if re or a neutral) or ashy (if pink) and I can see that undertone in the pics (ashy). I LOVE his eye shadows, palettes, blushes, eye base, etch but his lip products simply don't work and with EB counter near by, your swatches are important as I call in my order to BG. Thank you again! : )
These are really pretty…I will probably try at some point. Didn't Sephora carry some of his items at one point? No longer, I see…
Hi Bisbee, yes, Sephora did before. His line left the company officially in March 2014, but items remained online until stock was depleted. Hope this link helps.

Hi Sabrina, thanks so much for heads-up and great review. How would you compare these to the latest Chanel Gloss Allure?
Hi Sara 🙂 The Chanel Gloss Allures are glossier with a more transparent finish while the Edward Bess Lasting Kiss items are truly a stain and more like a liquid lipstick finish. The coverage of the EB is thicker/richer making them more pigmented and they have a slightly more velvety finish without being a true matte.
I would say the EB colors pack more punch. The Chanel has a more natural/sheerer finish.
Hope this helps!
It was 2006 and I thought I had taken leave of my senses because I had just splurged on a boxed set "Wardrobe" of Ultra Slick lipsticks created by an incredibly talented young man named Edward Bess. Ever since then, the effortlessly chic Ultra Slick has been a staple in my lipstick stash. Flawless, understated chic in a supremely comfortable formulation is at the heart of Edward's lip products. And, although his lip collection has expanded to include glosses, pot rouges, creamy lip tints, and now these gorgeous lip stains, Edward remains true to his esthetic and eschews the trend-of-the-day in favor of developing modern takes on classic colors. He has a very clear vision of his target customer and doesn't try to be all things to all women which makes for a pared down collection of elegant products in classic shades. But enough about Edward! I really must get my hands on Au Naturel and Deep in Love 🙂 Thanks for the beautiful lip swatches. Anyone wanting to sell lipstick should have you model it, Sabrina. Everything looks gorgeous on you.
Thank you Eileen, you are really too sweet. So many people have asked me what drew me to try Edward Bess's line, especially since it was only available at Bergdorf Goodman and there were no swatches. I was drawn to a photo in a Bergdorf Goodman catalog of that same boxed Lip Wardrobe 🙂 It was so beautifully designed while very simple and sleek.
I love it when I find other EB fans 🙂
I can't wear lipgloss, I don't know why but I wear lipsticks or nothing. But, on you they look fabulous, not like me…
Lots of love, xx

I adore Au Naturel! Looks like the perfect combination of nude & pink. Thanks for your review!
I love all of these shades but I love how Surrender looks on you!
Au Naturel looks so beautiful and lip stains are one of my lip products!! :O I gotta try these
I was going to make a comment about the cool-toned ones pulling pink on you! Then I read your note about it, haha. In any case these are really beautiful, and I don't think I've had any products that smell of fig, yet.
Omg I love all these colors!! Look amazing!!

Risque is very nice!
Wonder how these compare to the Guerlain Rouge L'Extraits? 🙂
Haven't tried those so unfortunately I can't compare.
Risque! Must get this!!!!
