Dior Garden Party Spring 2012: Waterlily and Forget-Me-Not

January 9, 2012

Dior’s Spring Garden Party Collection has a romantic and youthful palette of greens, purples and pinks. This season Dior has released two rose-scented nail polishes for spring in Waterlily 504, a soft iridescent pale green shimmer and Forget-Me-Not 694, a lilac purple cream ($23 each). Both are limited edition.

Dior Waterlily 504 is a soft pastel mint green with subtle shimmer that is fun and youthful. The texture is slightly thicker than other Dior nail polishes I own, but still applies with smooth full coverage. I find Waterlily very similar to Chanel’s epic Jade, but the Dior is slightly more leaf-green while Chanel has a bit more mint. There is something oddly irresistible about a soft minty-green shimmer even though it is anything but office-appropriate (in my mind). I agree with Café Makeup that the finish is more satiny with the Dior for this particular shade. If you want the classic high-shine finish you will need a top coat. Below I’ve swatched Waterlily with 2 coats and no top coat:

Dior Forget-Me-Not 694 is a lilac purple cream with a very slight hint of silver microsparkle. It applies more like a cream and the shimmer is only detectable if you look at the bottles closely. Forget-Me-Not applies smoothly with 2 coats. It’s a lighter version of Dior’s Purple Mix.

I pulled my greens and purples to swatch comparisons. I picked the closest shades to finger swatch here:

A more comprehensive comparison set:

When the promotional photos came out of Dior’s Spring Collection, my initial thoughts were “pass.” The collection has some of the most exquisite detailing with the design and gorgeous spring-like colors, but everything seemed a bit too pastel for my taste. However as photos of the nail polishes popped up on blogs I could not resist. I wore Forget-Me-Not all week and it lasted quite well without any chipping. While this is a brighter non-neutral purple, I still felt comfortable wearing this to the office on the fingers. The rose scent is very subtle and only noticeable when I hold my fingers close to my nose. Here are a few other resources I recommend (not comprehensive but just a few of my favorites):
If you’re considering these at all I suggest you act fast since they are limited edition. My local Nordstrom only had one of each shade left in the store by the time I called. Did you pick anything up from Dior Spring? What were your thoughts?

I got both eye palettes, initially I thought they were too much color for me but I was so wrong they are beautiful x_x. They are about my limit color-wise but I love them~

Beautiful! I love Waterlily on you. I agree Forget-Me-Not is muted in a way that makes it office-appropriate on shorter nails. I'm glad it didn't turn out to be too pastel as well.

I saw a glimpse of the new collection at Woodland Mall in Grand Rapids, Michigan. 🙂 Waterlily really stood out! I love seeing it on your nails. The green is so true!

I'm extra excited for the new eyeshadow palettes with the flower prints! They remind me of a beautiful garden party. 😀

Where will the blush from this collection be sold? I've checked online and no high-end retailer has it. I just bought Waterlily the other day at a Macys but the SA said they will not be getting the blush. It looks likes it's only available online at the Dior Beaute site.

Tammie – love it! So well put, they are about right at my pastel-limit too. I only picked up the Roses Eye Quint – haven't played with it yet though.

Peach – Will you be getting these beauties? I can't wait to see them on your blog.

DSK Steph – I'm contemplating the peach/green clutch. I agree the flower prints are so beautiful!

Pearyfooa – I'm not sure about that glowing blush. I think it might be a Dior Boutique and Dior.com exclusive but I'm not 100% sure. I didn't see it at Nordstrom but I haven't checked any other retailers yet. I'm still debating whether I want to purchase. I loved Cafe Makeup's review though!

It's hard to get used to spring colors, but then they start to make sense. I like both colors.

You'll love the Roses one :), I love the Pastel one too but it's definitely more of a colorful look for me, Roses is more wearable and I'll get more use out of it, imo. I mostly got the Pastel one because I loved Roses so much xD.

PS. I am pretty sure the blush is a boutique only thing, everybody (including CafeMakeup) ordered from the LV Palazzo boutique. It's not at any retailers online nor is it on Dior.com (at least not yet) which sucks because I want it but I want to swatch it or at least be able to return it easily if it doesn't work out for me…

Despite my usual tendencies, I have my eye on Waterlily. It's such a refreshing spring green— I feel like it would shake up my routine in a positive way!

Dior spring 2012 not yet available in Toronto, but I put myself on the list to get the polish and a palette as soon as they arrive… can't wait

Fantastic job on reviewing these items as usual. This collection is so beautiful, especially the Garden Clutch Palette's and the Waterlily Nail Polish. I personally like the entire collection, but those were the ones that stood out to me the most. I've been wanting a clutch palette from Dior since the Holiday 2010 Minaudiere Palette's. I hope they make more of those, since I think they are fantastic and unique collectors items. Thanks

I passed on the nail vernis. The purple is a bit more muddy than I envisioned. The green is beautiful, but not office appropriate enough to make it worth my while.

That said, I bought both 5 colour palletes and the clutch from Nordstrom. They are sheer and amazingly wearable, which was my only concern.

    Hi Sabrina,
I'm surprised by how much I like Waterlily. It might be a nice and refreshing contrast to tan skin.

  • Julia January 9, 2012 at 9:06 pm

I have been anticipating Waterlily for months, so I bought it as soon as I came across a counter display. Chanel Jade predates my time in nail polish so there was no way that I was going to let Waterlily pass me by. And I love it! I even love the special silver boxes; I'm such a sucker for little things like that.

those colors remind me of the new zoya collection for spring 2012. I have always loved purple and green together. waterlily has more of a sheen to it and jade looks more like a creme. zoya spring 2012 collection is worth checking out as well. those colors are very refreshing.

    Very pretty shades! 😀

  • M & R January 10, 2012 at 3:13 am

The green looked kind of blah to me in person, but it looks gorgeous on you.

P.S. I cried a little when I saw Jade. Alas, it will never be mine…

  • TzeYien89 January 10, 2012 at 8:08 pm

These look great on you! I initially thought I might skip these but after seeing this post I am reconsidering, as they look lovely! Beautiful comparison wheels 🙂

  • Melissa January 11, 2012 at 3:29 am

Love the photos (as always:), am kinda 'meh' about the collection, BUT what i'm curious about is whether or not you're into the Anselm Reyles collection! i keep checking here to see if you've done swatches or a post;) i'm loving it and hope i can get all the polishes before they're gone. and the eye shadow palette is amazing. annnnyway, sorry about changing the subject;)
