Christmas Home Decor + Cute Gift Wrap Finds

December 9, 2018

Christmas Decor Holiday 2018 | The Beauty Look Book

I’m sharing something a little different today with a look at some of our home decor pieces for the holiday along with some fun gifting accessories. An overwhelming number you requested a home decor post in a recent poll and so I have a peek at a few things we’ve done to make our place a little more cozy. We have one holiday themed corner in our living room to get in the spirit and everything is fairly simple and minimalist. I do love the beautiful elaborate wreaths and garlands I see everywhere else and maybe when we find our forever home someday we will go all out. For now I’m really just happy to keep things simple with a few key accents. Fur babies are included below. Our two Jack Russells Jake and Lucy are 13 years old this year! Kitty turned 6 in August.

7.5 Foot Flocked Christmas Tree

Our tree is a 7.5 foot Flocked Tree we bought at Home Depot. We considered getting a real tree but after some thought we opted for an artificial one and I love it! It’s pre-decorated so it already has lights and pine cones. The tips are flocked which give it a festive feel. I particularly love that we don’t have to water it and we can use it again in the future!

We did add some ornaments to it. Over the years we’ve found some pretty ones from Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware and other places but when we moved a couple years ago we didn’t bring a lot of our little things (we gave a lot away). This year we stopped by Target to get some wrapping paper and I was so thrilled to find a wide range of beautiful affordable ornaments. They have a wide range of colors for the ornament balls. We also stopped by Michael’s which I find has even more affordable budget options, for the quality and price Target has better ones.

Left Silver, Clear, White, Blue set (42 pieces) from Target, middle silver ornaments from Michaels, right red and gold mini ornaments from Target. 20 mm silver bells from Michaels. String star twinkle lights are Philips Lights from Target. Throw from West Elm.

Affordable Ornament Picks Target Michaels

As much as I love beautiful wrapping paper for gifts I feel like it can often times be so wasteful as it always gets thrown out! Target had some really nice budget options from their Wondershop and their Sugar Paper line. Ribbons and string are also from Target and Michael’s. If you need a specific color of ribbon Michael’s literally has every thickness, material and color you can imagine. Most of them were on sale for the holiday too.

Wrapping paper rolls, bows, string and scissors are from Target. Gold ribbons and bells are from Michael’s. I’ll link everything below.

Pretty Affordable Wrapping Paper Finds Target

For the gifts we are putting together ourselves that require a box we found some nice sturdy simple options at Michael’s. They come in a wide range of colors including the basic brown tan which can be easily dressed up with a simple ribbon, gift topper or cute gift tag. Target Sugar Paper has some nicer pre-decorated options as well. I can’t find the cute North Pole gift tags online but I did find them in store at Target.

Christmas Boxes and Tags from Target and Michaels

Other fun things include these Gold Jingle Bells from the Sugar Paper Line. I found some cute take-out boxes also at Target which you can fill with candies or use to send guest home with baked goods.

Holiday Christmas Decor

Perhaps the easiest and simplest way to add some holiday cheer to the home is with candles. My favorite holiday ones already rounded up in my Favorite Luxury Candles for the Holiday post. I was able to buy the full-size Diptyque Carousel when it restocked, but it sold out again. The small one is still available in the Carousel and Candle Set with Baies + Tubereuse.

I’ve really been loving Byredo as their scents are so unique and the candles have amazing throw. Chai is new this season, I don’t know if it’s limited-edition or not but it smells just like chai tea and it’s so cozy! I think Woods and Tree House are also amazing options for Christmas but versatile enough to burn year round as well.

Other details shown below linked: mistletoe, mini burlap wrapped tree (also available in flocked version), small lights, round globe lights, mirrored tray, gold photophore is an older style from Diptyque (boutique exclusive, other options here)

Christmas Home Decor and Wrapping Essentials | The Beauty Look Book

I hope you enjoyed a peek into our holiday decor! If you’re still in the process of picking up things to decorate a quick tip is to always check online for items first, even if you’re going in store. So many places like Target and Michael’s have a store stock locator option which is so helpful! Sometimes you can reserve online to pick up in store. Other times if you just want to go in yourself but want to check to see if they have things in stock it will tell you which aisle items are located. It’s super handy so you don’t end up driving all over the place searching for things!

The Christmas countdown is on and my goal is to have everything wrapped by tomorrow. I do think the best and most efficient way to shop for gifts is to simply order online and have things shipped directly. But if you have gifts you’re giving in person I hope you found these ideas helpful!

Your fur babies are wonderful & happy.

I agree with the “not wanting to have to water the tree” sentiment. I’m the designated water-er and would love to hand off that role!

  • tiffany December 9, 2018 at 1:32 pm

your tree is absolutely stunning! i always decorate with some lights 🙂

  • Tara C December 9, 2018 at 2:00 pm

Love your decor and the puppies and kitty. 🙂 I’m enjoying Diptyque Feu de Bois and Pomander candles as usual.

    • rachlovespenguins December 9, 2018 at 2:00 pm

Feu de Bois and Pomander are my favourites too. 🙂

  • rachlovespenguins December 9, 2018 at 2:00 pm

We get a real tree every year but I also have a short ivory artificial one (actually it’s full size but I only put half of it together) that I use with my collection of antique ornaments. It goes on top of a cabinet so the cats don’t play. The real tree gets kitty friendly ornaments towards the bottom because while they’re mostly well-behaved, sometimes those little paws just can’t resist the shiny stuff.

    • BeautyLookBook December 14, 2018 at 4:28 pm

Awwwwwwwwww this is just too cute!!!!

  • HW December 9, 2018 at 2:11 pm

I’ve just started decorating for the holidays — this year, we got a tree, and that’s about it so far!

  • Lisa December 9, 2018 at 2:11 pm

My favorite holiday traditions are to do a seafood feast on Christmas Eve. I still get a real tree and my two rag dolls lay in the tree skirt every night and mess all up!

    • BeautyLookBook December 14, 2018 at 4:28 pm

Hahaha, I think I remember the last time we had a real tree the dogs would run around the base and try to drink out of it too.

  • Paige Raugust December 9, 2018 at 2:26 pm

Your home looks very chic! I love to decorate for Christmas and don’t have space for a tree but I do have a fiber optic tree that I have had for many years that I absolutely love.Merry Christmas!

  • Susan Johnson December 9, 2018 at 2:30 pm

We used to go all out with our tree, decorations throughout the house, and lights and decorations on the outside of our home. But now that our daughter is 16, she’s not as into it, and we’re not as into all the post-holiday cleanup, taking stuff down, and putting it away! So we keep it simple now and limit it to the tree, mantel, and a few decorations on the living room coffee table.

Love the Target items you chose! We have many of the same Sugar Paper items this year. 🙂

  • Kim Pincombe-Cole December 9, 2018 at 2:36 pm

Candles are a big part of our holiday decor! I love Christmas scents mixed with natural scents.

  • Gail A December 9, 2018 at 3:10 pm

I used to decorate so much and the last few years have cut back. I think I love my candles twinkling all over and I make the Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve. I also try to see a play. This year Hamilton! Your tree is beautiful!

  • Justine R December 9, 2018 at 3:56 pm

My holiday decor is all gold and pink though it’s more of a rose gold and pink this year versus a hot pink because some of my ornaments shattered!

  • Jessica December 9, 2018 at 4:30 pm

I always put up my tree with a gold and white theme, but i want to add some felt accents like felt ball garlands.

  • msh111 December 9, 2018 at 4:56 pm

I am loving Frazier Fir by Thymes brand candle and Nest Birchwood Holiday Collection.
My Nordstrom stopped carrying Dyptique these last few months for some reason – which is pretty disappointing!
I was looking forward to the Dyptique Holiday collection this year but it’s not to be. I like to be able to sample a scent in person.
    Happy Holidays!

I love those star twinkle likes. I will have to try and find some.

  • inkchick December 9, 2018 at 5:20 pm

I love pretty lights on the outside of the house. My cats guarantee that no indoor display can survive.

The most delightful thing of all? The picture of you hugging your fur baby in front of the tree! Adorable! Thank you for the glimpses of your holiday decor. Your esthetic is so appealing. You create beauty in so many ways. It’s always fun to see what you come up with. Thank you for sharing 😃

    • BeautyLookBook December 14, 2018 at 4:28 pm

Thank you Eileen! I live for our fur babies!!

  • andra198957 December 9, 2018 at 6:50 pm

I love decorating and listening to Christmas carols while doing so. Just a bought new tree that I think is going to look fab and I can’t wait to put it up next weekend. Loved your dreamy post! <3

  • lisamhampton December 9, 2018 at 7:37 pm

I love listening to xmas music while baking cookies and decorating the tree. I’ve been in China the last few years, so haven’t really had the opportunity to really partake in xmas, but hopefully next year.

  • Laurie M. December 9, 2018 at 8:50 pm

I put up a tree and a few other decorations, most of them are things I have made myself over the years. I alo love to bake and make everything for Christmas dinner <3

  • Kristen December 9, 2018 at 9:34 pm

Holiday scented candles, and Hawiian music as we take our annual “Christmas/Anniversary Trip” to Maui each December. 🙂

    • BeautyLookBook December 14, 2018 at 4:28 pm

I have Hawaii on my travel list, sounds like the perfect place to travel during Christmas 🙂

  • Jessica December 9, 2018 at 10:32 pm

Thanks for the post – it definitely gave me some ideas for next year, as I’ve already decorated.

  • Louisa Fae Dent December 9, 2018 at 11:04 pm

I love putting up the tree and putting up Christmas lights outside as well. Christmas candles also add to the feeling

  • Merry Rower December 9, 2018 at 11:40 pm

I look forward to unpacking my collection of hand-blown, hand-painted glass tree ornaments each December. The unusual ones are my favorites; an open oyster with a pearl, an asparagus spear, a pagoda, a manatee, and more shiny treasures. And I always have to have some red and white amaryllis bulbs blooming. Otherwise, I like to keep it simple with green pine and fir boughs, strands of old red wood beads and beeswax candles.

  • Ruth Preminger December 9, 2018 at 7:10 pm

I love your aesthetic, simple and tasteful. I also like to keep it simple but really enjoy the things I use year after year. My favorite is the Martha Stewart glass bead cranberry wreath I made with a friend. I don’t have room for a big tree, but my mini Hallmark tree is a joy!

  • Jessica December 10, 2018 at 12:36 am

We don’t decorate as we don’t have the space to store something we’ll only use once a year. But I do love taking a photo with Santa as a family every year!

  • N. Novona December 10, 2018 at 12:56 am

I like to put up our tree 🌲 and some garland over the fireplace to get us in the Christmas spirit, also burning some candles too.

  • Alia December 10, 2018 at 1:11 am

Your tree is gorgeous! I always love putting up fairy lights and candles, and holiday baking is a must. Lots of cookies and brownies to nibble and share 😊

  • Petunia December 10, 2018 at 3:04 am

We love taking the family out to look at the Christmas lights. We have a neighbor near us that goes all out. It’s incredible and such a fun thing to do at night.

  • Kesha December 10, 2018 at 3:16 am

I love all of your gift wrapping and your tree is gorgeous. I love decorating for Christmas. I also bake tons of goodies to give to family and friends!

  • Stella Helen Diep December 10, 2018 at 4:41 am

I also got a flocked artificial tree this year! Love your tree so much!

  • FernandaRAndrade December 10, 2018 at 4:45 am

I love gift wrapping, I thing all the emotion begins in how it looks ‘outside the box’…

  • Ana Céline December 10, 2018 at 6:21 am

This is such a beautiful post dear, I’m feeling super festive now. I absolutely love gift wrapping, I have a collection of different wrapping papers at home and I love decorating the house all christmassy xx

  • Dawn Spangler December 10, 2018 at 7:41 am

Such a beautiful tree! I love the flocked trees and may need to get a new one myself. Thanks for sharing your beautiful pictures!

  • MALINA CRISTESCU December 10, 2018 at 7:44 am

    Really stunning tree 🙂

  • Megan Harrington December 10, 2018 at 9:29 am

This is BEAUTIFUL, oh my gosh it’s giving me all the holiday and cozy feelings. We’re not decorating this year as we’re moving to a new place on January 1st and it didn’t make sense to put up a tree with the rest of the house in boxes and shambles, very sad but I’ll be looking to this post for inspiration next year. My favorite holiday activity is wrapping presents while She & Him’s Christmas album plays, sipping on some cocoa.

    • BeautyLookBook December 14, 2018 at 4:25 pm

Thanks Megan! Awww, I totally understand with the move – best of luck with it! We had to move on New Years Eve last year as well so I feel ya on the moving boxes!

  • Martha Soko December 10, 2018 at 10:00 am

Amazing Post, all the beautiful décor is putting me in a Christmas mood. When I decorate during the holidays the most I do is a Christmas tree. I would love to go all out but my two sons usually tear off all the decorations and play with them😁😆 so I’m very minimal at the moment.

    • BeautyLookBook December 14, 2018 at 4:25 pm

Aww thanks Martha, lol about your two sons. I remember my brother doing that when he was younger!

  • Tahrer December 10, 2018 at 1:00 pm

Love decorating for holidays. I always use my silhouette cameo machine to come up with cute gift tags and give out personal cards. ♥

  • kelleyhasapis1 . December 10, 2018 at 2:29 pm

Flocked trees sure are pretty. I love looking at other peoples’ decor because it is such an inspiration.

  • Julia December 10, 2018 at 2:45 pm

This is a beautiful post–love the color scheme! My favorite Christmas tradition is baking; I NEVER bake during the rest of the year so its my chance to make bread, cookies, and anything else I can think of.

    • BeautyLookBook December 14, 2018 at 4:25 pm

I used to love baking, it was one of my favorite things to do!!

  • Kiran December 12, 2018 at 12:52 pm

The Sugar Paper line from Target is my favorite! They also sell beautiful gift boxes which don’t require wrapping since they are already so lovely!!

  • Jennifer Ryder December 10, 2018 at 4:05 pm

Everything looks beautiful! Thanks for sharing photos of your dogs & cat, too. I buy plain wreaths & make a bow & decorate them every year. I put one on the front of the house, one on the side, & give one to our son.

    • BeautyLookBook December 14, 2018 at 4:25 pm

Hi Jennifer, sounds like you make beautiful wreaths each year!!! So sweet that you give one to your son 🙂

  • Nicole December 10, 2018 at 4:20 pm

I love cute giftwrapping ideas! You’re so creative. I do sometimes feel like spending soooo much time and effort on giftwrapping is a bit useless since someone is going to rip it off anyway, but since I think it’s such a soothing activity I do always end up doing it!

    xxx –

  • Anne Capitant December 10, 2018 at 7:28 pm

I didn’t get much this year in terms of wrapping paper and such- partly because I can’t do too much with my hands and partly because we’re penny-pinching this year. We did get a tree and that’s probably one of my favorite parts of the holidays as I get to smell fir tree for a month-ish which is awesome. The cats also like to sleep under the tree on our tree skirt and the lights on them make for perfect photos (and it’s super cute) so that’s always lovely. I usually bake a lot (and send people food gifts) but this year that’s been less-so but still a favorite past time of mine during the holidays.

  • Karin Moore December 10, 2018 at 11:38 pm

I loooved this!! All of it! Your mini tree with the lights and candles??! I am pretty sure I’m going to try to recreate that “tablescape!” Just so festive! (And I think I’m a flocked-tree-convert bc of your tree! 🎄❤️)

  • Sunnykm December 10, 2018 at 11:49 pm

You made a tree from Home Depot look like a million bucks!

    • BeautyLookBook December 14, 2018 at 4:20 pm

      Awww you’re TOO SWEET!!!

  • Andreia SPR December 11, 2018 at 8:15 am

Hey Sabrina! This I am wrapping everything myself. I love doing the Christmas tree with my daughters, it is such a delight! I wish you a lovely Christmas!

    • BeautyLookBook December 14, 2018 at 4:25 pm

Sounds so cute, hope you have a lovely Christmas as well 🙂

  • Laurence December 11, 2018 at 9:55 am

Beautiful and festive but not over the top. Love it! Happy holidays to you and your family!

  • MumisaRockeuse December 11, 2018 at 10:05 am

hi Sabrina, I love your wrapping papers and boxes ! I live in France (Paris) and I dream we would have shops as Michael’s and it’s quite difficult to find nice wrapping papers. I love the way you decorate your tree, not to much, just perfect. We don’t have here the Christmas spirit like in your country ! My dream is to spend Christmas in the United States once in my life… (most of the time, I go there in spring or summer). Last year, we were in Las Vegas in november (as my husband was running the Marthon) and it was so surprising for us to see the houses decorated as in France the outsides and gardens are not decorated most of the time. I wish you a very nice Christmas from France

    • BeautyLookBook December 14, 2018 at 4:25 pm

      Merry Christmas to you too!!!

  • Solange December 11, 2018 at 5:34 pm

I love decorating for the holidays, lots of festive lights and red and gold decorations.

  • Valerie Manke December 11, 2018 at 11:38 pm

I love decorating with lots of string lights and antique ornaments my mom and I collected over the years.

    • BeautyLookBook December 14, 2018 at 4:25 pm

That’s so cute, what a fun tradition!

  • Christina December 12, 2018 at 12:34 pm

I love putting up the tree and decorating the dining table (we end up not being able to eat on it!). It’s something I’ve done since I was a kid, and when I met my husband, he never ever decorated for the holidays, but I got him in the spirit. My tree is filled with mostly glass blown ornaments that I’ve collected over the years, so I guess you can say what I like to do is hunt for a couple fancy ornaments to add to my tree each year. The poor thing is only 6″ tall, and I keep adding ornaments to it!

  • hofken December 13, 2018 at 12:45 pm

I don’t do much decorating at my home since we all tend to congregate at my dad’s house. Since my mom passed, we all try to make sure all of his decorations get put up – outdoor lights, tree, nativity scene, holiday dishes – the works!

  • pearlgrey December 14, 2018 at 3:35 pm

your decorations look amazing! i didn’t do any this year (can’t find the box of xmas stuff) but i like to put on holiday music and sip on hot chocolate while wrapping gifts!

  • heytrud December 15, 2018 at 3:27 am

Love Christmas decorations this time of the year. It makes a house, a real home.

  • Mary-Irene Marek December 15, 2018 at 7:00 am

I love the minimalist approach to decorating.Your home looks beautiful! I think calm and simple hygge is the way to go, and it will carry you through the cold winter. My kids love to see all of the decor around the house and it really puts us in a great mood while we get ready for Santa. This year is the first year with our new Ragdoll kitty. She is almost 1 and very very playful. I feel lucky that she hasn’t tried to jump in the tree yet! She loves sitting under it!
