Diptyque Holiday Gift Guide

Diptyque Advent Calendar Reveal Part 3

December 25, 2015

Today is the last reveal of the 2015 Diptyque Advent Calendar contents from Days 19 through 25. Several of you have mentioned you were surprised that Baies hadn’t made an appearance yet, but Diptyque saved the best for last and on Day 25 they calendar reveals a small Baies Candle. For those who missed the previous posts you can see Part 1 and Part 2. The Diptyque Advent Calendar was launched this year in extremely limited quantities. Being the die-hard fan that I am I tracked one down even though it was extremely spendy at $390. To recap on all the contents, it contains:
  • 15 (1.2 oz) mini candles in Ambre, Feu de Bois, Santal, Genevrier,
Opoponax, Vanille, Cypres, Noiseter, 34, Oud, Geranium Rosa, Pomander,
    Figuier, Rose, Benjoin
  • 1 (2.4 oz) small candle in Baies
  • 6 (0.34 fl oz) perfumes in Oud, Florabellio, Do Son, Tam Dao, Philosykos, 34
  • 1 (15 ml) mini Precious Oil
  • 1 (15 ml) mini Rich Body Butter
The 15 baby sized candles are ones that are typically the ones with gift with purchases or in holiday sets like the 5 Piece Set (still available at Barney’s New York) or the 10 Piece Set (Nordstrom Exclusive).

Size comparisons reposted here for reference:

This week from Day 19 to 25 the contents revealed candles in Roses, Baies, 34, Noisetter, Pomander and Benjoin and one fragrance Tam Dao. I’ve owned all the candles in the full size with the exception of Pomander.

Out of all the Diptyque candles I’ve tried (I haven’t tried them all, but I’ve tried quite a few), there are only two that I am not crazy about Benjoin and Feu de Bois. If you’re new to Diptyque or don’t have a store near you to smell the scents in person, I think the 10-Piece Set or this Advent Calendar is the best way to try the most without having to splurge on the full sizes which range from $32 to $60. Buying the individual smaller sizes at $32 each is more economical than splurging on the $60 standard size, however not all the scents are available in the small size.

In hindsight, I think the calendar was a luxurious splurge and I am really happy I was able to track one down however, given the fact that I’ve already tried most of the scents (candles and fragrances) I can’t say that it was something that allowed me to discover lots of new items – although there are quite a few that I hadn’t repurchased in a while so it was a nice way for me to rediscover some items. I did try two new body products that I hadn’t tried before which was nice. I will use them up to the end as they are minis but probably will not repurchase in the full size (still a fan of the Diptyque Shower Gel though).
In the end, did I think it was worth it? Yes it was worth it to me – the presentation is beautiful and it was really fun to open up a new item every day this past month. Do I think it was a good value? I do think it’s the best set yet as a way to try a little bit of everything from Diptyque, but in terms of value or savings, I don’t think I could say this was a good deal. Will I be tracking one down next year? I don’t know – it depends on the contents. I think it would have been nice if they included a sneak peek of upcoming launches for the next year, but I do understand some brands don’t launch items or information ahead of time.

As with the other reveals, I have one last giveaway for the year. One lucky winner will receive a $100 e-gift card to Nordstrom – enter via Rafflecopter below. It’s open internationally but you must be 18 years or older to enter. The giveaway runs today through 1/1/2016 and winner will be selected randomly through the Rafflecopter widget and contact by me via e-mail. This is probably my favourite Advent calendar unboxing series. I've not tried Diptyque but my preference for fragrances right now is definitely Jo Malone – I loved Mimosa and Cardamom so much I went back to look at the line (and I really hope they bring back the Sakura/Osmanthus blossom scents because I loved those too but my bottles are long gone!)

  • Anonymous December 25, 2015 at 10:14 pm

Happy Holidays! I loved the special holiday candles from diptyque this year, esp. Oliban. Although my favorite candle maker, I do not like diptyque for personal fragrance – not while there is classic Guerlain (Shalimar, Mitsouko, Vol de Nuit).

  • sandy December 25, 2015 at 10:17 pm

    I love Feu de Bois!

  • desiree chang December 25, 2015 at 10:21 pm

I actually like the Feu de Bois one, but what I don't like about it is for me, it doesn't have as good of throw. Loving the Vanille one this year, although it is quite subtle!

    • Ona Luna December 26, 2015 at 2:13 pm

I second the Feu de Bois! I dig the Vetiver candle as well.

  • Sylvia December 25, 2015 at 10:25 pm

I tend to gravitate towards vanilla scents, but love Philosykos, and recently our based A small Figuier candle.

  • Olivia Velasco December 25, 2015 at 10:34 pm

I haven't try diptyque, ay the moment my favorite candles aré from Jo Malone!!!

  • Bella December 25, 2015 at 11:52 pm

I would love to try diptyque, right now I use voluspa!

  • Cassie December 25, 2015 at 11:53 pm

I remember wandering through a Diptyque boutique last time I was in Paris, but sadly I never did end up buying anything *kicks self* I don't have a favourite candle brand so much as I have favourite scents. Evergreen scented candles, and anything from Chapters (Canada) is a favourite.

  • Lulubelle December 26, 2015 at 12:01 am

I've yet to experience a Diptyque candle, but I do enjoy their perfumes, particularly in the solid form.

  • Jennifer T December 26, 2015 at 12:01 am

    jo malone candles.

  • Sharon Glazier December 26, 2015 at 12:02 am

I am currently burning the Sapin candle. I love it but don't always get a strong whiff of the fragrance. I also have a mini Myrrhe candle going. The Advent Calendar is a luxurious Christmas item for adults – I LOVE it!
Merry Christmas and thank you for your wonderful, informative, interesting and elegant blog.
    Tanja

  • Jessica December 26, 2015 at 1:57 am

Always wanted to try these candles.. But it's so hard to splurge on these!!! Merry Christmas! Love your blog!

    • Ona Luna December 26, 2015 at 2:11 pm

If you have a Nordstrom near you that carries them, it's worth a visit — actually two — to sniff. (Though I'd recommend trying just a few out at a time, hence the revisit.) Also, if a candle contains a fragrance that's also in perfume form, you can ask for a sample of said perfume. Diptyque is very generous with samples when they have them in stock. And the samples are beautifully packaged, just like the full sizes! Plus the people who work at the Diptyque counter are very well-informed about the craft of perfumery, and experienced in guiding people to the right scent.

  • V. Lau December 26, 2015 at 3:12 am

I love the range of scents offered! So surprised to hear that you don't love Feu de Bois since that seems to be a bestseller everywhere!

  • whooobie December 26, 2015 at 4:07 am

I wish I had been able to get my hands on this advent calendar! 🙁

  • JulieTwinkle December 26, 2015 at 4:48 am

Those are adorable – would be perfect for travel, gifting or just keep in each room of the house. My personal favorite fragrance is Amber – so warm and inviting. Happy Holidays!

  • Cathy December 26, 2015 at 5:13 am

dyptique is so luxurious and the calendar is beautiful…i would def consider getting one next year if they decide to do it again based on your review. thank you for sharing!

  • Cathy December 26, 2015 at 5:15 am

  • Shino December 26, 2015 at 5:25 am

I have the fleur d'oranger scented oval in my dresser that makes my clothes smell lovely. It's been a few years and it's still giving off scent. I'm planning on using it as a xmas ornament when the scent dies.

  • Tenneil Allmark December 26, 2015 at 5:40 am

Holyyy moly! A Diptyque advent calendar?! Wow, a girl sure can dream! I only recently discovered your blog and it's absolutely beautiful. I love my high end, luxury brands and Diptyque is definitely one of them too! I'd say my favourite scent of theirs is Rose (the fragrance is my signature scent!), but I absolutely adore Baies and Ambre as well. I've got the Figuier candle and Philosykos EDT on my wishlist next!

  • Anonymous December 26, 2015 at 5:58 am

My favorite Diptyque scent so far is the Oud candle. It's strong, but very distinctive!

I've always wanted to try their candles, but they're so expensive! Do they sell any "trial" or "travel" sizes for cheaper?

  • MariamRenne December 26, 2015 at 8:11 am

I love "Marshmallow Fireside" by Bath and Body Works! Smells like the real thing!

My favorite scent is Pomegranate Noir by jo Malone….love!

  • SuzyM December 26, 2015 at 12:36 pm

I haven't had an opportunity to actually see the Diptyque candles, so my favorite scented candle is from Aveda and it's their Shampure Soy Wax Candle.

  • Luiza Fatahi December 26, 2015 at 1:08 pm

I haven't tried Diptyque candles yet, but I'm willing to… Until now I used Nuxe and Zara Home candles

  • NasyaRob December 26, 2015 at 2:38 pm

    I love Jo Malone candles!

  • Ona Luna December 26, 2015 at 2:38 pm

P.S. My favorite Diptyque fragrances are:
    1) Geranium Odorata (really the best Geranium soliflore I’ve ever smelled, and I’ve been searching! My sweet BF got me the rollerball)
    2) L’eau de L’eau (a great take on the classic Eau de Cologne)
    3) Do Son (gorgeous white flowers; love the eau de parfum version)
    4) Vetyverio (smoky and green)
    6) Eau Rose (very realistic Rose de Mai)

For their candles, the Rose one just slays me!

This is not to say that I can afford any yet! My BF generously bought me the rollerballs of Geranium and Rose, the former which I’ve gone through like lightning.

  • C December 26, 2015 at 3:47 pm

I have bought my first Diptyque candle this Christmas as they look just so gorgeous when you first posted them. I got Sapine, and I totally adore the smell! Do you have any idea which ones from the regular range smells like it? I might be getting the rose one next in large size!!!! So excited.

  • anna December 26, 2015 at 4:30 pm

I love Diptyque candles, they are so elegant & pretty!

  • Marbie Diana December 26, 2015 at 6:00 pm

I tried Heart and Home in rambling rose, obsessed with rose scents lately helps me keep calm.

  • Anonymous December 26, 2015 at 6:12 pm

I haven't tried Diptyque candles yet. I have to be careful about candles because, if the scent is too strong, my sinuses give me a fit. Also, I live two hours away from the nearest retailer. I keep meaning to check them out and then forget. 🙂

  • Lizzie Moncel December 26, 2015 at 7:08 pm

My favorite candles are Tyler candles, but I smelled Diptyque candles on Black Friday and I've been wanting to buy one since. I just didn't get to it if I got one for Christmas.

  • Anonymous December 26, 2015 at 7:46 pm

I'm very sensitive to fragrance, so I generally don't use scented candles. I do like some essential oil. Love your blog, I have followed you for years. Merry Christmas!

First, I want to wish everyone Happy Holidays and may 2016 bring health, happiness and prosperity for us all. I also want to thank you for taking the time to write such fabulous reviews. I have purchased far too many products based on your suggestions and I don;t think any of them have disappointed me. I've never tried this brand at all but have such wonderful things about it. I do enjoy some of the Nest fragrances although I don't know any by their particular name. Good Luck To All.

  • Evelyn December 27, 2015 at 3:26 am

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays! 🙂 I really love Diptyque candles and Nest as well, I find their scents more natural than other brands that have a chemical scent to them. My favorite Diptyque scents so far are Feu de Bois and Ambre!

  • Su December 27, 2015 at 3:46 am

I have never tried Diptyque scents before but I keep hearing about Baies. My favorite scent would be Marshmallow Fireside from BBW. So delicious with a woodsy sexy twist.

  • Li Cheng December 27, 2015 at 4:05 am

Thanks for sharing this with us! Diptyque is my absolute fav for fragrance! I love the rose scent and the fig scent. Its fragrance is always very sophisticated and well-balanced. When I want something simpler, I would go for Jo Malone.

I have never tried Diptyque, but I have tried Jo Malone and love English Pear Freesia! When it comes to scents, I tend to gravitate towards citrusy ones.

  • stoko77 December 27, 2015 at 11:01 pm

My favorite Diptyque fragrance is Eau Duelle (vanilla and spice). I can wear it and people notice that I smell good, but it doesn't register as perfume to those who say they are allergic to scents. I even wear it when I work in the clinic, and patients don't notice.

  • cloudburst December 28, 2015 at 12:20 am

I've yet to own a Diptyque candle but I smelt them in store and LOVED Figuier.

My favorite Diptyque scent is Figuier!

  • Nitulino December 28, 2015 at 7:05 am

I haven't tried any Diptyque candles yet, but my fave scents (as far as my Yankee Candle trained nose knows) are vanilla cupcake like, some sort of sweet or spicy scents, or like apple, cinnammon in the winter and rose, gardenia-esque scents at summer. Thanks for the giveaway 🙂

  • natash91 December 28, 2015 at 9:10 am

I have yet to try Diptyque although I've been very interested to do so since it is not available in Indonesia. Even if it is, my money aren't available… *embarrassed* But I love warm sugary scents, especially vanilla. I always buy Slatkin & Co.'s candles in US but now that I live in Indonesia where I can find theirs nowhere, I stick with Yankee's which I love just as much. 🙂

  • Vera Xie December 28, 2015 at 2:04 pm

Haven't tried Diptyque candles before. Apple spice from Yankee Candle is my fave. So yummy!

  • kristinalhg December 28, 2015 at 4:03 pm

I haven't tried any Diptypue candles or scents before but depending on the time of year, I love clean scents for the summer and warm scents (or anything that makes the house smell like cookies) in the winter.

  • Mita December 28, 2015 at 4:22 pm

I like the Eucalyptus by Diptique

  • Lexie December 28, 2015 at 7:14 pm

Not familiar enough with all their scents so no favorite yet, but I'm partial to florals so I have a feeling the rose-scented option(s) would be my favorite 🙂

  • Lori December 28, 2015 at 9:56 pm

I've never tried Diptyque candles. My favorite candle scent is the Edgar Allan Poe candle by Paddywax!

I have never tried Diptyque! I really like soy serenity's lemon sage candle 🙂

  • kimberlytran December 29, 2015 at 4:58 am

I have not tried Diptyque most because I'm scared it'll become an expensive habit but then again what habit doesn't get costly? I like the bath and body works candles. I don't like the candles that smell like fruit or sweets. I like the clean scents like New York Black Tie and Autumn Sky. I think most would say those are more masculine scents. It's not too heavy like a man with too much cologne. Its like hugging a guy and his scent is still around. Ok this got a bit weird. Sorry.

  • Priscilla M December 29, 2015 at 6:41 am

Diptyque seems like the perfect house warming present I can give to myself! I tend to gravitate towards earthy and masculine scents.

  • Jennie WP December 29, 2015 at 8:04 am

My favorite fragrance from Diptyque is Do Son, and my favorite candle so far is Tubereuse, but I have yet to burn Sapin and I've got a feeling that I may love it even more. 😛

  • melian22 December 29, 2015 at 8:07 am
