His and Hers Fragrance Favorites of the Year

December 15, 2017

Fragrance Shelfie His and Hers | The Beauty Look Book

Doing a little his and hers shelfie today rounding up our fragrance favorites of the year. Looking back on my archives I haven’t done a scent roundup since early spring but quite a few have been on repeat for months. I used up several bottles year including Tom Ford Sole di Positano, Soleil Blanc, Creed Virgin Island Water and the Replica Glow Filter. Andrew has gone through several bottles of Creed Aventus and Chanel Bleu de Chanel. More details on our favorites below.

Best Colognes of the Year for Him

Best of Men's Fragrance Creed, Chanel, Dior, Viktor and Rolf

Andrew’s favorites: Andrew is probably like most men where he has 2-3 main go-to colognes depending on occasion. Ideally he wants a minimal and well edited grooming routine where he finds something he loves and sticks with it. This year he discovered Creed when I brought him back a couple mini vial samples from the Creed New York Boutique. He fell in love with Aventus and we both wondered why we had not discovered this sooner. If he had to pick one scent for the rest of his life it would be this one.

  • Creed Leather Atomizer Small ($175, holds 10 ml) is something Andrew asked me to buy him after he saw my small turquoise one (shown here). He likes to have something he can carry with him when we travel. We found one in Black and Silver at a local Neiman Marcus and he’s obsessed with it. It’s small, sturdy and easy to fit in a dopp kit without taking up a lot of space.
  • Creed Aventus ($375 for 75 ml) is the ultimate scent for men. It has a fresh but masculine mix that is suitable year round for any occasion. Both of us agree this is what a great fragrance smells like. Much to my wallet’s dismay he’s used up several bottles, but the Creed team kindly sent one for the holiday with their Engraved Medallion which they’re offering with any 75 ml bottle purchase on their website. (The engraving option is available on each fragrance page.) You can pick up to 3 letters that they’ll engrave on the back.
    • Aventus notes include Bergamot, blackcurrant leaves, apple, pineapple, pinkberries, birch, patchouli, jasmine, musk, oakmoss, ambergris and vanilla
    • Quick peek at the new Boutique in Miami here and here, their New York Boutique featured here
  • Dior Sauvage Eau de Toilette ($74 to $145) has been on Andrew’s list since it launched. Since discovering Creed the Dior has moved down on his favorites, but it’s a great everyday scent that isn’t overpowering and light. His brother came over once and the two of them were going through his skincare and grooming routine. He smelled this and really liked it and asked us to buy him one for Christmas. They are complete opposites so I’d say the Dior is a good safe option that I think will appeal to most men.
  • Chanel Bleu de Chanel Eau de Parfum Set ($154) Andrew has tried pretty much all the Chanel men’s colognes and eau de toilettes and the Bleu de Chanel is his favorite. He actually prefers buying it in the Travel Spray atomizer because it’s easier to carry in places like his briefcase. I like that you can buy the refills separately as well on Chanel.com. He’s tried both the Parfum and Eau de Toilette versions. He prefers the Eau de Toilette because it has a more fresh and modern vibe but both are really good.
    • Bleu de Chanel Notes – I can’t find the exact list, but this is a woody citrus that’s clean but masculine
  • Molton Brown Russian Leather Eau de Toilette ($65 for 1.7 fl oz) was a new Molton Brown launch this year. It’s clearly masculine and does indeed have a rich leather vibe to it. It has a classic smoky but slightly modern feel to it. It’s different from the fresh scents Andrew gravitates towards. Lasting power on him is really good with this one. It’s not as universal as the other ones listed above, you will either love or hate it. We both love it.
    • Russian Leather notes include Elemi, Black tea, Purple Basil, Siberian Pine, Tobacco, Birch, Vetiver, Leather and Cade
  • Also shown, Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate which is mine but he also uses it, Diptyque Chene candle recycled

Sabrina’s Favorite Perfumes of the Year

Best Luxury Perfumes of the Year | Beauty Look Book

My favorites this year have been from Tom Ford and Creed. I feel like I’ve lived in Sole di Positano, Soleil Blanc and Virgin Island Water (used up and not shown). Of course as usual my list is more extensive. I cannot stick to one perfume just like I cannot have just one or two nude lipsticks. I’m a true beauty junkie. I normally have liked scents with sandalwood or some kind of amber, but based on my list below it appears I’m really one who loves bergamot and scents that are more citrus based with some florals mixed in.

  • Byredo Hair Mist in Bal D’Afrique and Mojave Ghost ($62 each for 75 ml) are two I debated on for months and finally splurged. I love both as Bal D’Afrique is sweeter and Mojave Ghost is lighter and brighter. I already own the Bal D’Afrique perfume and love it. I’ve used up four mini vials of the Mojave Ghost and should just buy the full size perfume already. The hair mist has decent lasting power, even in Florida heat. It has a nice mist dispenser which sprays it evenly over the hair.
    • Notes for Bal D’Afrique include African Marigold, Bergamot, Bucchu, Lemon, Neroli, Cyclamen, Jasmin Petals, violet, Black Amber, Moroccan Cedarwood, Musk and Vetiver
    • Notes for Mojave Ghost include Ambrette, magnolia, sandalwood, violet, cedarwood, chantilly musk, crisp amber
  • Tom Ford Sole di Positano ($230 for 50 ml) was reviewed here in this post, one of the best bergamot scents I’ve tried! Used it up entirely and it’s on my wishlist to repurchase once I work my way down through other ones
    • Notes include Italian bergamot, petitgrain bigarade, lemon, mandarin leaves, shiso leaf
  • Tom Ford Soleil Blanc ($230 for 50 ml) probably my favorite scent ever, best white floral that smells like spring and summer and sunshine
    • Notes include bergamot, cardamom oil Orpur, pistachio accord, ylang ylang, benzoin extract Orpur, coco de mer accord
    • Also available in this gorgeous Travel Atomizer Set ($230 for 10 ml each)
  • Creed Leather Atomizer ($175) makes for such a beautiful gift – it comes with a funnel to make it easy to pour inside, these come in multiple colors, I have the aqua one and this silver one is so pretty for holiday!
  • Creed Love in White ($350 for 75 ml) is one of the scents most of you have recommended to me, I finally tried it and fell in love. The Creed sent one for holiday feature – this too comes with a complimentary engraved gold medallion for any 75 ml bottle or larger. This is such a beautiful feminine fresh scent, I will be wearing it for months to follow and probably will do so for years!
    • Notes include orange zest, Florentine iris, daffodils, magnolia, Bulgarian rose, Tonkin rice, vanilla, ambergris and Mysore sandalwood
  • Creed Virgin Island Water ($290 for 50 ml) not shown because I’ve used mine up, this is the ultimate vacation scent. Living in Florida it feels like I’m living in a permanent vacay state of mine with the weather so it’s fitting to wear it any time of year!
    • Notes include Sicilian white bergamot, Jamaican lime, Sicilian mandarin, hibiscus, ylang-ylang, Indian jasmine, Tonkin musk and tropical wood
  • Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt ($135 for 3.4 oz) is my favorite layering cologne. It’s one I can definitely wear alone to but it layers so nicely with other scents like Wild Bluebell and pretty much anything else. This is my year-round scent that I can wear no matter what the weather is like.
    • Notes include Bergamot, ambrette seeds, buchu leaves, sea salt, mineral accord, dry fruits, driftwood accord, guaiac wood, white musk, sage.
  • Atelier Cologne Coffret Collection ($275 customizable set) I discovered Atelier Cologne this fall in San Francisco. We passed by a boutique and I had such an amazing experience there. I bought a small travel spray of Bois Blonds and used it up within weeks. The store sent us home with tiny vial samples of a few others we liked and you can actually buy the Sampler Set for $35on their website which is genius! All fragrance brands should do something like this. I’ve since bought a few boxed sets from Sephora and also already used up an Orange Sanguine. On Atelier Cologne’s website you can make your own boxed sets. I ordered one and am so excited! A few thoughts on each one:
    • Clementine California is a bright citrus with clementine, juniper berries, pepper and sandalwood
    • Oolang Infini is one of the best calming scents with bergamot, neroli and freesia
    • Vanilla Insensee is one of two vanilla scents I’ve been able to wear, the vast majority of vanilla based scents are too sweet and too rich for me to wear, this one has coriander, jasmine and vetiver mixed in
    • Bois Blonds is a beautiful peppery wood scent with neroli and bergamot
    • Orange Sanguine is a blood orange with cedarwood, black pepper and jasmine
    • Also found at Sephora, Neiman Marcus and Nordstrom if you have one near by to smell them in person (although they don’t have all the size options in stores, you’ll have to shop them online)
  • L’Artisan Mure et Musc ($96 for 1.7 oz) is the best berry scent I’ve tried. This brand unfortunately has become increasingly more difficult for me to find as I can only find it online at Bloomingdale’s and Saks Fifth Avenue (no stores near me). This is a classic I think everyone should try, it has the most beautiful mix of berry and musk without being too sweet.
    • Notes include lemon, orange, basil, lavendar, blackberry, jasmine, musks, patchouli and oakmoss
  • Replica Glow Filter ($55 for 1.7 oz) was initially reviewed here a while ago, this is a perfumed oil spray which can also be used as a primer for other fragrances. I like to wear it alone all over because it’s an oil I like it as a body moisturizer. I’ve since used up an entire bottle (this one is my second) and it smells like fresh clean warm skin to me.
  • Maison Kurkdjian Aqua Universalis Hair Mist ($65 for 70 ml) is an alcohol-free hair mist which is a light airy scent. It has a linen feel to it with the freshness, it has a combination of lily of the valley, mock orange, bergamot, lemon, and musky wood. Makes me feel like I’m walking on a cloud!

I hope you enjoyed our favorites roundup! As always let me know what your favorite scents were this year. I live to read about what other people wear. There are so many perfumes on the market it’s just overwhelming to decide where to look or what to try. I loved that dozens of you have commented and e-mailed me to recommend Creed Love in White.

Fragrance Favorites of the Year

If Andrew had to pick one favorite, you can guess it would be Creed Aventus hands down. If I had to pick one I would not be able to. But if I had to pick three I could narrow it down to Tom Ford Sole di Positano, Tom Ford Soleil Blanc and Creed Love in White. If I could add two more the next ones to follow would be Atelier Cologne Oolang Infini and Byredo Mojave Ghost.

Did you discover anything new in perfume this year? Or do you stick to your tried and true? Do you use hair perfume? Let me know which ones you’ve tried and love! I’ll be rounding up my favorites of the year in a few other categories in upcoming posts so stay tuned! Also working on review of the new NARS foundation, Tom Ford Eyeshadow Singles and Matte Lipsticks from Laura Mercier. Trying to get everything swatched and tested before the end of the year.

I’m addicted to Byredo. What a great brand find this year!

  • Kate McIlroy

My newly discovered favourite this year was Le Labo’s rose 31! But like you, I cannot pick one and am constantly trying new ones, I often come back to byredo gypsy water though:). Have never tried a hair perfume and would love to!

  • Alyssa Marron

I discovered Le Labo Lys 41 in September and have been obsessed ever since but I also love their Chicago scent (Baie Rose 26)! Lys 41 is just the perfect white floral.

  • Glenda

I never knew Byredo had hair fragrances! I’m curious about these as a category… Do they not damage hair in any way? Does the fragrance last?

I love perfumes so much, but I have a very sensitive nose, everything gives me a headache (to the point of nausea) and stuffed/running nose. I’m always blind buying perfumes based on how other people love them and unfortunately having to return them. Ugh.
I’d love to try the Creed ones, but for the price, I don’t have the courage to buy without trying them on first.
Another brand I want to try eventually is Le Labo. I think they know offer a kit with sample vials for 35.00? Still expensive for how small they seem to be, but it’s a good way to try things!

    Lovely post! 🙂

  • Amy K

I gifted Scent of a Dream to myself this year for my bday. I love it. It’s very different from all my other perfumes.

  • Meghan M

Thank you for a great post! My favorite fragrance this year is Elizabeth and James Nirvana.

  • MALINA CRISTESCU

I am now discovering Atelier Cologne via their sample set, but I will always love Coco Mademoiselle

  • Alexandra Mariash

My biggest discovery of the year was Le Labo. I have been a beauty addict all my life but it is so sad that I haven’t discovered it sooner. I fell in love with Santal 33, a musky leather masculine scent, and seeing that you like bergamot notes I would highly recommend trying their Bergamote 22. I got a hold of the Bergamote 22 sample yesterday, and was literally smelling my wrist all day. Finally, I always wanted to ask, have you ever tried FragranceLock or similar products? Are they worth it?

  • Ha H.

Such a great post with different point of views. I haven’t tried hair perfume but it sounds interesting. I stick with my tried and true perfumes which are jo Malone. I really enjoy the different scents.

  • lbtcouture

My favorite perfumes this year were Vilhelm Parfumerie Dear Polly and Byredo Velvet Haze.

  • lawler

I still love my sandalwoods and cedars: Diptyque Tam Dao and Byredo Gyp*y Water (as well as Bal D’afrique). I also begrudgingly love Flowerbomb. It isn’t at all what is sounds like and that was fine by me!

  • Anne Capitant

My all-time favorite scent is still Wood Sage & Sea Salt. It’s right up my street with both the fresh and unisex aspects of the scent, and not so heavy I worry about wearing it around scent-sensitive people. And you’re right, it is excellent for layering. During fall/winter I layer it a lot with JM Mimosa & Cardamom and JM Cedarwood & Juniper. It’s also the one I recommend to pretty much anyone, regardless of gender identity, as it seems to work on every person.

  • Cinnamon Tea

I used perfumed hair oil spray from Body Time years ago. I loved that it was completely customizable. When I moved east they barely had a website, and I couldn’t find a shop like it. So that was that.

I’m with you on the vanilla scents. It’s hard to find one just right. I’ll have to look into Vanilla Insensee.

  • Erin

The Atelier colognes are my favorite, Clementine California in particular – I’m wearing it right now!

  • Meg

I love all the fragrance from Guerlain and Chanel Les Exclusifs line. This year I “re-discovered” a bottle of L’Instant de Guerlain EDP I forgot I had and it has become my favorite! It’s very feminine but not overly sweet, and is perfect for cold weather! As for hair perfume, I love J’adore by Dior. I also use Chanel No.5 body oil spray (limited edition from last year) as hair fragrance, but I do wish Chanel would create hair perfume from Les Exclusifs line!

    • Merry Rower

I have that Chanel No. 5 body oil but never thought of using it on my hair. Thanks for the great idea.

  • Have you tried any Le Labo fragrances?

    • I’ve tried Santal and Rose – liked them but did not love.

  • OonaBean

This post makes me want to buy one of everything! Tom Ford Soleil Blanc is my favorite as well, but I’ve been dying to try Mojave Ghost. Maybe a Christmas present to myself this year 🙂 I am always jealous of how beautifully organized your shelves are!

  • Liz

One of my favorites is definitely TF soleil blanc!

  • Ruth Preminger

Vintage Chanel no. 5 and Guerlain Interdit. I love the Davines oi hair products fragrance so much but the hair fragrance mist changed too much as the day wore on…

  • fujifan23

Favorite perfume was Tom Ford Plum Japonais! Sexy and perfect for the season.

  • dee

I’ve been loving Elizabeth and James Bourbon lately. I love the idea of a hair mist! This list gave me a lot of ideas.

  • Tuyet Vu

i love love Le Labo Lys 41. Very floral with lily, jasmine and tuberose. My signature fragrance and received many compliments. Another Le Labo that i like is Bergamot which is very citrusy. Perfect for the summer

  • redbaronsg

Thanks to your recommendations, I purchased the TF Sole di Positano over the summer. I might be your TF fragrance twin as I also love Soleil Blanc!

  • Laura Schmaltz

So it’s not new – by my absolute favorite is Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille. And I have recently noticed MAC Velvet Teddy is a very close and much cheaper dupe fo me! I also love Soleil Blanc, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet in buying a bottle because it doesn’t last as long on me as I would like for the price.

  • Maureen

My favourite is Jo Loves White Rose and Lemon. This is hard to find but I had a friend pick it up for me in London. Love it.

  • Lisa Vandersniff

I really like the Tom Ford Private Selection perfumes too, especially Plum Japonais and Black Violet. I also like many of the Serge Lutens perfumes; Daim blond and Fille en Aiguilles are perfect for winter.

  • Amy Case

Discovered Byredo Mojave Ghost this year. Easily the most unique scent I have ever come across. I have since bought the hand cream as a special treat before bed. Tom Ford’s Soleil Blanc was a wonderful find for Spring and Summer. I adore the spray oil version of this fragrance (and it’s gorgeous sparkle), and my mom, who has for decades been devoted to one scent, fell in love with it and bought it too. The Flower Bomb perfume oil is lovely and I highly recommend. I have long loved FlowerBomb, but opted to purchase the oil this year instead of the perfume. Lovely! My final discovery this year was Chanel Gabrielle. The only negative to this perfume is that it simply doesn’t seem to last. I am so puzzled, as Mademoiselle lasts forever on me! Great year for fragrance discoveries! 🙂

  • Madalina Elena Vid

Thanks for your recommendations.I can choose my perfume just fine but I always have problems choosing one for my husband so…..this helps a alot 😉

  • Omyara 15

I love your blogs and nice photos clean, fresh awesome job.

  • Karen E Young

I’ve been searching for the perfect scent for me. I have worn Mohave Ghost along with a few others but it hasn’t stuck. I ultimately go back to Trish McEvoy’s No 9 – Blackberry & Vanilla

  • bilqees bano

I love HUGO BOSS HUGO Deep Red

  • urbanangel

I normally stick to my usual Chanel Coco Mademoiselle. I like having a scent that defines me. But definately going to sniff out some of your recommendations!

  • Deborah Hayes

I also am loving the Jo Malone “Wood Sage & Sea Salt” scent. I smelled it for the first time as a sample in a magazine and fell in love!

  • I LOVE the Atelier fragrance in Clementine California. It is so light and different than my usual Flower Bomb or Coco Mademoiselle. This is a great roundup and has good recommendations for the men in your life too!

  • Tina Deck

I love all your recommendations. My favorite sent is tom ford soliel blanc.

  • Rebecca ZH

I fell in love with Mojave Ghost this year and also Diptyque Tam Dao. I bought them during Space NK’s Bogo event and I’m so glad I did. I alternate depending on my mood. Also, if you love white floral I recommend Santa Maria Novella’s Mughetto, a sexy and lasting lily of the valley.

  • Anna Fiore

I fell in love with Tom Ford Neroli Portifino years ago; it’s sooo much better than the acqua version at Sephora, though I can’t place why. I’ve always wanted to try the Byredo scents since they are so popular, but I’ve never been able to smell them in person, and I don’t order perfumes or candles online as it seems too risky lol

  • Wendie Vietze

Tom Ford Soleil Blanc is my hands down favorite. I mix with his Sandalwood in winter. I do wish they would make a fragrance of the body oil. It seems to combine both. I also love Positano. I love Maison Kurkdjian Aqua Vitae forte in winter. I think only Neiman has the Vitae. It’s very unique, and slightly spicy.

  • Andrea Lurie

I am definitely buying some samples from the Atelier Cologne – thanks for this discovery I wish more companies would do this and they are great for travel! I do love the Jo Malone scent, but it is a hard choice.

  • lisa_carbone

I haven’t discovered anything new this year but I do love all my current scents in rotation. Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt, Coco Mademoiselle, Jimmy Choo, FRESH Cannabis Santal and Lancome La Vie est Belle

    Best Lisa

  • Sabine Ganga

Love creed virgin island water, the whole year long and even with christmas!!

  • Hey sabrina. Always love to read your blog! I sure love the Chanel de blue for men, my husband loves the aftershave more than the cologne. My fav have been Chloe Roses And Ysl Moon Paris!
I have not tried the hair mist. I keep wondering if it will damage my hair in any way and how long the fragrance would last. I have the Dior blooming bouquet scent that I love abd was contemplating buying the hair mist… still deciding!

  • Nicole Fortier

Gold by Commodity has been my favorite scent for the year but the travel spray I bought ran out so I’ve been trying out some different things. Secret Genius by Pinrose is a new discovery that I’ve been loving! It’s perfecr for everyday wear. Saint & Sinner by Kat Von D are two othe new discoveries that I’m enjoying. Sinner was my initial favorite, but I recently purchased Saint after smelling it on my friend and I really like this one as well! I’ve been thinking about purchasing a new cologne for my boyfriend, so I’ll definitely have to check out your recommendations!!

  • Jessica

I love jo malone nectarine blossom and honey. I think it’s so unique, and my husband actually notices when I wear it.

  • Collar Wilson

My favorite fragrance this year is Gabrielle by Chanel.

  • binabug

Viva La Juicy Glace ..our workplace is scent free so I don’t get to wear much fragrances, and I use this on weekends

  • Tara Cazaubon

I am loving Byredo 1996! I know it wasn’t released this year, but is my top scent. Thanks for the draw!

(I am already subscribed to your newsletter)

  • Catherine Shi

This year my favorite perfume discovery was Fitzgerald & Guislain’s Extrait d’Osmanthus. It is so beautiful and I get a lot of compliments when I wear it. Other than that I don’t feel like I discovered a whole lot more new things as much as I finally pulled the trigger on some perfumes I have been thinking of for years, Maria Candida Gentile Cinabre (a peppery, resin-y rose) and Serge Lutens Fille en Aguilles (pine, incense, spices). I also got a couple sample sprays of Mojave Ghost and fell in love with it. It may be on my to-buy list for 2018. I haven’t tried any hair perfumes yet but I wear Guerlain’s Eau de Lingerie linen spray as a fragrance in my hair.

  • Jennifer Ryder

Some recent scents I’m liking are by Pinrose – Secret Genius and Pinrose.

  • Amanda Jimenez

My go to perfumes this year were Atelier Cologne Cedre Atlas, Joe Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt and Fresh Citron De Vigne. The best hair fragrance I used was actually in the form of conditioners but the scent always lingered and I never had to use perfume. It was Bvlgari white tea and green tea. Soooo good.

  • Amber

Amazing, I love Byredo and would love to try the mists, have yet to try the hair mists yet, but how fun! Right now I’m obsessed with NEST Midnight Fleur, Atelier Cologne Clementine and Maison Margiela REPLICA Tea Escape, and MAC Shadescent Velvet Teddy.

  • Kim St Hilaire

I love the Jo Malone sea salt and sage and Byredo’s Mohave Ghost is amazing

  • msh111

I’d love to try the Creed In Love White. This year I’ve loved V&R Flowerbomb & YSL Mon Paris & Black Opium. Great recommendations!

  • bobekecske

I’ve been loving Byredo scents this year, especially Blanche all year round, La Tulip for the spring, and Bal d’Afrique for the colder months.
I have also become a fan of woody scents recently, like L’Artisan’s Bois Farine or Diptyque’s Tam Dao.

  • Suzy Harris

Creed Virgin Island Water and Chanel No. 5 EDT. Stark opposites but I love Creed in the summer and Chanel in the winter.

  • Sienna Moore

I’m loving the new chanel Gabrielle

  • I’m a fan of Atelier Colognes as well and am currently working my way through their advent calendar. It’s a great way to sample a good portion of their offerings!

  • amcella

I feel in love with Serge Lutens’ Chergui & Atelier Rose Anonyme. Couldn’t be more different yet equally loved and worn

  • Christina

    Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay

  • Hayley Choe

I have tried and purchased so many fragrance samples, decants and bottles this year that I can’t really recall what were my favorites earlier this year. But for the latter part of the year, the firm favorite is Frederic Malle Superstitious. It is a powerful modern chypre that makes me feel transported every time I spray it. Other nice discoveries include Chanel No 5 l’Eau, Cire Trudon Bruma, Armani Prive Iris Celadon, Aedes Iris Nazarena & Signature, and Tom Ford Vert de Fleur.

    • Merry Rower

We’re scent twins! Two of my favorites this year were Superstitious and Vert de Fleur too.

  • Jessica

I’ve never tried a hair mist before, but it makes sense because I always spray perfume in my hair so it lasts longer.
I don’t wear perfumes much as a strong scent gives me headaches but I love the smell of the Tom Ford perfumes.

  • Rachel D.

I’m new to your blog through the Diptyque Recommendation post. Since then, I am hooked with the brand’s philosophy. My favorite so far is their Do Son. Planning to try on the Phylosykos. What’s your thoughts on their perfumes line?

  • lisamhampton

love your pics! my favorite perfumes always seem to get discontinued. missing my tocca touch

  • MONICA KIM

I’ve never used hair perfumes, would be interested.

    Thank you!

One of my favorite perfumes is Flowerbomb. I have been using it since it came. For a while I knew they came out with a hair perfume but it was until recently that I started using it. I loved it.

  • Polo92

    Love Byredo 1996 perfume

  • Justine Goubert

Since I definitely can’t pick one single favorite fragrance, my favorite winter ones are the Chanel Gabrielle, Jo Malone Orange Bitters layered with Wood Sage and Sea Salt, or an oldie but a goodie, Alien by Thierry Mugler.

Jo Malone’s Wood Sage and Sea Salt has been my go to for a couple years now, I’m on my third bottle! Their Blackberry and Bay and Peony and Blush Suede are a close second and third, though 🙂

  • Kristen

Tom Ford Soleil Blanc has been on constant rotation for me since the launch. However my go-to is still Bvlgari White.

  • Sarah Iles

Hi, really enjoyed your post! I live in frozen Canada, so my favourite perfumes are richer vanilla orientals and ambers like Ormonde Jayne Tolu (amazing in winter on sweaters and scarves!), Hermes Ambre Narguille, and Mona di Orio Vanille (spicy and a little smokier) I also love Orange Sanguine and wear it year round, it has the most juicy and uplifting citrus opening! I just got their Cafe Tuberosa and it is gorgeous, the best coffee & mocha note followed by ambery rose & tuberose, highly reccommend! I will definitely try some of your suggestions when summer rolls around, my favourites for hot muggy weather that I have are Monsillage Eau de Celeri & Diptyque Philosykos.

  • This year I bought 2 new perfumes that I LOVE! Byredo Bal D’Afrique and Glossier You. I was so impressed by both. I can’t see myself wearing anything else regularly for a long time.

  • mariaforlife

This year I was obsessed with Byredo Bal D’Afrique and Glossier You. I can’t see myself wearing anything else regularly for a long time!

  • Christina

Sadly, I can’t use perfume because I’m ultra sensitive to scents, and I’m not just talking about perfume. I have tried a hair mist from Oribe, though. That was lovely, as is the rest of the Oribe line.

  • Valerie Manke

I love Serge Lutens Fille En Aiguilles, I’ve been obsessed with resiny, pine scents.

  • i recently bought Glossier You and really like it!

  • nic

This is the first year in over 10 years, that I left behind my faithful Narciso Rodriguez Musc oil for other things. All because of this blog!

    • Wow – 10 years is a long time!

      • nic

It is a long time, but I went All out on nice sized decants from the perfumed court. I got Tom Ford Santal Blush and Sole Di Positano, Creed Virgin Island Water, Byredo Biblioteque, 1996- straight up patchouli on me, and Bal D’Afrique. Now I have fallen head over heels for some Diptyque. I’m a mess!

Still in love with Balenciaga B.

  • Laurence

Love your choices. I am a big fan of Atelier Cologne and got their advent calendar: such fun to discover new scents.

  • MBAMommy

My fav right now is YSL Mon Paris – i can wear this year round! I like putting a dab/spritz at the nape of my neck if my hair is down. Then when I flip my hair I get a little whiff. 🙂

I also like Kate Spade’s Live Colorfully and Tokyomilk Dark Tainted Love. I think the KS is a better spring/summer smell, while the Tokyomilk Dark is a deeper, winter smell.

Shalimar is my desert island scent, always and forever. But I love many scents, and am always up for the next great one. Right now I’ve been enjoying Van Cleef & Arpels Moonlight Patchouli which has a beautiful, very modern progression from rose to patch to woods and back again. I especially love it for December in Los Angeles, with our warm, sunny days and cool, dry nights. It works for every temp and vibe.

The men in my life are all in Hermes, with Terre and Vetiver getting the most love. Although there’s a bottle of Lalique Encre Noir floating around, which we all happily share.

Oolang Infini is my very favourite fragrance, I’ve gone through 2 200ml bottles of it already. I’m so happy to see it getting some attention because it’s not generally featured anywhere often.

  • Nadine Maurer

This year I dicovered the BYREDO Gypsy Water and I looove it but my fave, since a few years now, is the Chanel Eau Fresh

  • Rosierey

I’m a huge fan of Byredo and have enjoyed Gypsy Water,Tulipe,Bal dAfrique and have recently added Mojave Ghost during one of the beauty events. So far, out of all my perfumes, I’ve received so many compliments on Mojave Ghost!

  • TF

Great choices. Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt is also one of my favorites.

  • Anaïs Gensollen

Also crazy about Vanille Insensée and Orange sanguine by Atelier Cologne.
Latest crushes include Acqua Di Parma Cologne Oud and Cologne Ebano, as well as Diptyque Eau Lente that I steal from my boyfriend. Also big fan of Byredo generally, with a preference for Blanche and 1996. Le Labo recently opened in Paris so I was excited to finally try Santal 33, which is great but has a staying power close to zero…
Anyway, happy to take part to the giveaway!

My top perfume this year is Roses de Chloe!

  • inkchick

The ones I tried this year and liked were Jazz Club, Beach Walk, and At the Barber’s from Maison Martin Margiela and Jo Malone’s 154.

  • Anna

My top perfumes of this year are Lancome Hypnose and Chanel Chance Eau Tendre.

  • Katy

Byredo’s Mojave Ghost smells soooo good!

  • tasa

My best of the year fragrance was Auphorie Miyako. It was beautiful and interesting from start to end (and I even love the drydown the morning after!).

  • beautifulbeakers

I love Jo Malone perfumes! I haven’t tried layering them yet, but that’s on my list!

  • Sarah

My favorites of the year are Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt and Nirvana Bourbon by Elizabeth & James. I have been wanting to try some of the Tom Ford and Byredo scents you mention! How do you find the staying power of the Tom Ford scents?

  • One of the best perfumes I purchased this year was Byredo’s Mohave Ghost roll-on. For my Mother I picked up TF’s Fleur de Portofino, which she’ll most likely love.

I’m aching to try Byredo’s Mojave Ghost – the name alone makes me want! 🙂 I didn’t discover anything new, scent-wise, this year that knocked my socks off. I’ve mainly worn Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille over the last couple of years, sometimes Tom Ford Santal Blush, and I’m REALLY sad to realize I’m down to my last precious drops of the Narciso Rodriguez Musc for Her Oil Parfum I hoarded years ago upon hearing it was being discontinued. Seems like my faves always get discontinued! If TF Tobacco Vanille ever gets discontinued I’ll be devastated. It’s been my fave, go-to scent for a while now. I wish Tom Ford would come out w/ Tobacco Vanille lotion or oil. Love it!

  • I love Gucci Bloom, that was a late in the year discovery. But otherwise Jo Malone Orange Blossom is a perennial favourite. I’ve never tried the Byredo hair mists but they seem like a more affordable way to wear their scents since the perfumes are so pricey!

  • Lauren

I’ve only tried some of the scented body products but I love the scent of orange sanguine.

  • Atelier Cologne makes so many gorgeous scents. Still dying to try Byredo!!

  • Melia Cypress

Soleil Blanc by Tom Ford is the best fragrance ever

  • J Lee

Trying to find my boyfriend a cologne right now… we are both so scent sensitive that it’s been really hard to browse for long periods in stores!! This list will definitely cut down some of the testing time…

  • Kate Larkin

I love the idea of fragrance in the hair, and the notes of Bal D’Afrique are calling to me.

  • Jeanie M.

I have never tried a hair mist before. I just usually spray my perfume onto my hair. Does the mist last longer?

  • Holly

My favorite scent this year was Armani Si!

  • Nisan Gülşar

I recently bought Guerlain Idylle and this must be love!

  • Jenn E

I have been using Light Blue a lot but I discovered and love Marc Jacobs’ Decadence!

  • nelle

My fave this year is Black Opuim Shock and I have never tried a hair fragrance

  • Rebecca.Shoe

I love Angel by Thierry Mugler and White Patchouli by Tom Ford!

  • JH

Tom Ford’s Cafe Rose is a fave!

  • denise

I’ve really been enjoying Jo Malone’s English Oak and Red Currant this fall/winter. But I’m also still wearing Replica’s Filter with By the Fireplace layered over it. That combo has the nicest cozy smokey tobacco and vanilla scent…very sexy.

  • Gabriela Zapata

Tom Ford Sole Di Positano is my fav!

  • Adriana Luza

I love Clean scent Skin, so beautiful and unique.

  • Lisa L

My top perfume this year have been Replica Beach walk

  • Whitney Evans

Thanks for always keeping your content the same. This may seem like a negative comment, but I can always count on your blog to remain consistent and true, which I appreciate! I’m a long time reader and like the fact the you have maintained the swatches and opinions on which I rely. I know I can count on you when so many others have changed so much I don’t even recognize them anymore ☹️ You are one classy gal – keep up the good work! I value your opinions!

  • That Creed Virgin Island Water is everything! My signature scent.
