Chanel Rouge Coco Stylo Complete Care Lipshine

There’s a new lipstick formula from Chanel called the Rouge Coco Stylo ($37 each for 2 g/0.07 oz) which comes in a slim twist-up tube that’s described as having “the intensity of a lipstick, the shine of a lipgloss and comfort of a lip balm.” It truly is a three-in-one kind of lipstick. These have medium to full pigment – coverage is a lot better than the Rouge Coco Shines and just as much pigment as the Rouge Coco Lipsticks. Out of all the Chanel lipstick formulas I’ve tried the new Rouge Coco Stylos are definitely the most creamy in texture and most hydrating in feel. There is a soft floral scent to these similar to the Rouge Coco lipsticks. The formula is quite amazing and all the colors are knock out beautiful. There’s a tiny bit of shimmer in the tubes, but on the lips it’s very subtle. You mostly see color and shine.

There are neutral and bright colors in the mix, there are eight shades total:
  • Conte 202 is a baby pink with golden shimmer
  • Article 204 is a bright warm tangerine with a vibrant finish
  • Histoire 206 is a bright coral shade, on me it pulls red
  • Roman 208 is bright fuchsia pink
  • Recit 212 is a plum shade with gold flecks
  • Message 214 is a warm watermelon pink
  • Lettre 216 is a medium soft rose pink
  • Script 218 is a beige nude pink-brown

Lip swatches with the Rouge Coco Stylos alone on bare lips (no liner or other added colors, I have naturally pigmented lips so sometimes the lip shows through around the edges):

In terms of lasting power I found they lasted a lot longer than the Rouge Coco Shines, about the same amount of time as Rouge Allures or Rouge Cocos. They stay put on the lips and adhere well for a glossy finish lip product. Colors will fade or transfer with snacks or drinks, but as long as you don’t touch the lips to any food, straws or cups they stay on long. I give the formula an overwhelmingly positive thumbs up. The only downside I see is the price seems high given the amount of product in each tube, but the formula performs well, looks good, makes the lips look and feel well hydrated and healthy. Bottom line is you need at least one.
You can find the Rouge Coco Stylos for $37 each now at Chanel.com. I also spotted them in store and online at Nordstrom but they should be arriving at all Chanel counters now.

Three shades provided courtesy of Chanel, the remaining five purchased by me.

They all look beautiful on you. I had a hard time selecting just one and Message won in the end. It is so cheerful and lasts quite a while.

I agree – they did an amazing job on this launch!

They don't really have shimmer, it's more shine that probably reflects with the flash. Still if you prefer mattes, then definitely skip.

All the shades are so freaking good and the formula looks so moisturizing and balmy.. <3 <3

I haven't been so excited about a lip product for a long time. As soon as these hit the counters here, I'll be ready. Recit, Script and Lettre are the frontrunners at the moment, but we'll see.

    Thank you for the swatches!

I have Conte, Lettre, Message and Script and LOVE them all! I hope they offer more shades in the future, as I like them more than the Rouge Coco Shines or even the Rouge Coco lipsticks. Which glossimer is that in your pictures? It looks very pretty too.

I have not heard good things about this new lipstick from friends. They do not like the length of the tube. It is as long as or longer than a mascara tube they say and difficult to store. Won't be buying any.

I have been curious about these. They look magnificent!

    Hi Sabrina,
Every one of the new lipsticks look beautiful on you. When they release online in Canada, the last four will be mine.

How does the hydration compare to Dior's now discontinued, and Cle de Peau's similar pen-style lipstick/ lip care hybrid? I am sorry, although being a devoted fan to both, each product name has momentarily escaped my thoughts. (Slow memory morning)

    • February 18, 2016 / 5:52 pm

I can't recall the Dior's exactly, from what I remember they were pretty sheer and harder in texture compared to the new Chanels.

For Cle de Peau, I had some before they reformulated everything. I remember them being super sheer. Can't speak on the newer/current ones as I have not tried them.

do you know if these are limited edition? the lady at the counter told me they were but I had heard they were not. thank you.

    • February 18, 2016 / 5:53 pm

I do not know – if you go to chanel.com they usually list "limited-edition" next to colors that are limited. In this case there aren't any indicators but I don't know for sure.

Thank you for this post! I've been looking forward to your review of the Stylos. For some reason, I was extremely excited about the launch of this formulation, and ultimately blind-ordered Recit and Message (after much agonizing over trying to figure out which shades would work best for me). Based on your swatches, they might be a bit brighter than I hoped, but should still be good. Thank you for that confirmation–and for such a clear and thoughtful review, as always.

It's definitely hard to tell based on online swatches!

Two weeks ago I stopped into my local Chanel boutique and they had these in stock. I bought Lettre. I went back last Friday and bought Recit and Message. I'm wondering if I need to get some of the others. This is my favorite Chanel lipstick formula by far.

  15. February 18, 2016 / 5:33 pm

I've been thrilled with the number of launches this spring that feature creamier, glossier lipsticks. Although mattes certainly have their place in a lipstick wardrobe, I personally much prefer a more moisturizing lipstick. Also, I think a glossier lipstick is a nice counterpoint when a more matte foundation is being worn. Anyway, I had been eagerly awaiting Chanel's RC Stylo and purchased Message to try out the formula. It certainly feels comfortable on the lips and it wears much better than I had expected. Yes, the stylo case is needlessly long (aren't they all?), but it's really no different than carrying a lip gloss.

Sabrina, Script is obviously your kind of color and it is absolute perfection on you, but Message also looks especially lovely on you. Thank you for all the lip swatches. Your poor lips! LOL

    • February 18, 2016 / 5:55 pm

I think Message is such a you color! Out of the brights I think it's the most universally flattering b/c it's the perfect mix of warm and cool.

Thankfully the formula is super hydrating so my lips didn't feel too bad afterwards 🙂 Very thoughtful of you to think of that xoxo.

Absolutely agree with you on creamy and glossy lipsticks. I love a statement lip, but mattes are difficult for me (love them in theory, look dead in practice). I'm also no longer 19, so some hydration is appreciated.

  16. February 18, 2016 / 9:20 pm

how do these compare to the Cle de Peau that have a similar bullet?

So glad you like them as I have Message on the way, but now I see that I need at least two more!

  18. February 19, 2016 / 4:25 am

They all look good but I'm crushing on Roman!

  19. February 19, 2016 / 11:38 am

Fantastic post. I can't wait to try these! I think Message, Roman, & Recit are calling me!

  20. February 19, 2016 / 10:33 pm

I actually got Script for myself for Valentine's Day after seeing your sneak peek on another post. The formula is amazing! I just wish they had included a lighter MLBB shade in the range. Script is workable for me when sheered out, but I'm between fair and light with pink undertones and only use natural looking products so something in a light mauve-pink would be ideal. I hope they extend the range because the formula really is superb! Thank you for the always great and in-depth post!

What color do you think Kiera is wearing in the magazine ads?

    Historie?

I got two of these- histoire and recit and love the formula. The mattes tend to feel drying and these feel hydrating, but yikes- I paid $45 Canadian for each. I got it at the Bay as they were having a beauty promo.
I have the magazine chanel ad with Kiera and it says that she's wearing message with the matching nail polish in Shantung. I plan on getting message once I save up!
