By Terry Baume de Rose Nutri-Couleur Mandarina Pulp #2

August 4, 2014
By Terry’s famous rose balm now comes in six different tinted versions of the Baume de Rose Nutri-Couleur ($56 for 7 g/0.24 oz, made in France). Right now the availability of colors is a bit limited, but they should all be at By Terry counters soon. Three of the shades in Rosy Babe 1 (a baby pink), Mandarina Pulp 2 (fresh mandarin coral) and Cherry Bomb 3 (a lush cherry red pink) are available now exclusively at Space NK. The other three Bloom Berry 4, Fig Fiction 5 and Toffee Cream 6 are currently available at Barneys.

I checked the first three shades out last week at Space NK with the Beauty Professor. We’re both fans of the regular Baume de Rose (my thoughts here and here). Below are the three shades we saw in store at Space NK in Bloomingdales (taken with an iPhone in store with bad lighting):

For the tinted colors, I picked out Mandarina Pulp 2. It’s a lush orangey shade that gives a rich but soft tint of coral. There’s no shimmer in it but it has a slightly transparent quality and a shine that gives the lips a luscious glow.

Here it is swatched on me:

The tinted Baume de Rose Nutri-Couleurs are $56 and smaller in size at 7g compared to the regular Baume de Rose priced at $60 for 10g. The circumference of each tube is the same but the tinted ones are a bit shorter. In case you haven’t seen my previous review on the original Baume de Rose, it’s one of my favorite lip balms. It took me several years of thinking about it before I decided to splurge on a $60 lip balm. My lips are normal but sensitive and prone to drying out with certain lipsticks (like MAC). It usually takes a couple days for my lips to restore to the normal state (for some reason I still can’t resist MAC lipsticks). With the By Terry Baume de Rose, if I use this at night my lips don’t peel the next day. It’s rich, lush and I find it amazing for my lips although it’s definitely not a must-have. There are other lip balms that work well without the high price tag, but I have no regrets and love it. The tub is quite large and it will last a long time. My other favorite lip balm picks reviewed here and here.

Some other coral lip shades to compare:

A definite splurge but the Baume de Rose Nutri-Couleurs give a luscious color with a super hydrating feel. You can find three of By Terry Baume de Rose Nutri-Couleurs now at Space NK. Some are on pre-order at Barneys.

  • I was actually looking at these last night and considering whether they were worth the splurge or not. So glad to see a positive review (and some swatches)!

    • Glad these helped! They are definitely a huge splurge, some more swatches have popped up online, I'm eyeing the pink and purple ones, but can't justify more splurging yet.

  • that's a beautiful soft orange on it, Sabrina! And I also love getting a glimpse of your face, too.

    • thank you bellyhead πŸ™‚

I sometimes have great difficulty in finding lip colours that are wearable for me and don't make me look washed out – particularly nude tones. For some reason, despite our skin and eye colours being completely different, the colours you choose always seem to suit me extremely well. Maybe it's because we both have well pigmented lips?

Your blog is now always my first point of reference when it comes to discovering or researching new lip products. So thank you for helping me to find plenty of new favourites!

I've been looking at these, having recently purchased and been impressed with By Terry's Terrybly Nude 100. The tangeriney colour is fabulous – hope it looks as good on me as it does on you! πŸ™‚

    • I've heard such good things about the Terrybly Nude lipstick, I keep forgetting to check out the lipsticks because there are so many amazing things from her line. I'll have to put it on my list to check out next time I'm at a counter. The nearest one is over an hour drive away from me!

It is a true nude and, therefore, lighter than my own lip colour – as I'm sure it will be for yours. Usually, this would be seriously bad news for me and make me look like one of the undead. However, this By Terry Nude is going to be a fabulous colour for pairing with smokey eyes or just looking very, very natural with a hint of gleam. Would love to find out whether you like it when you eventually get to try it. I can confirm that it performs and lasts well, leaving your lips very nice and moisturised. πŸ™‚

  • wowzah… $56 for a lip balm???? Though, the texture and color look so spot on…I'm kinda tempted to buy it!

    • Yes, $56 for a lip balm is quite insane, but it is quite luxurious and the formula is amazing. I don't know that I can say it's worth it, but I am happy with my purchase.

  • I bought the shade Cherry Bomb but wish I picked this one up now!

    • Cherry Bomb is such a gorgeous color! I don't wear cherry colors that much though because they tend to make my lips look super huge.

It is so refreshing to see a face AND the lips! Beautiful!
    Greetings from Germany.

    • Thank you πŸ™‚ So sweet of you to say!

  • The color looks great! I'd really like to try it as I've seen many raves about it.. but I'm really not a fan of the jar packaging…

    • I don't like jars either for lips because I find they get messy. I've made exceptions for By Terry, Tatcha and Chanel because the formulas as so good.

I am in love with this balm! I bought Rosy Babe at Space NK over the weekend. My top lip was chapped this weekend for some reason I can't figure it – it has been a long time since I had chapped lips. Within a few hours of wearing this the dry skin peeled off and left me with baby smooth lips. I had tried a few other products but been unsuccessful in resolving the issue. I am amazed. I love the shade I picked, a pretty baby pink, and plan on buying this in every color. I like this better than the regular By Terry balm. I think the formula is better.

    • Oooh! Rosy Babe is such a gorgeous pink, I was worried it would be too pale on me and I didn't want to try the tester on my lips. I may reconsider, I'm waiting for some lip swatches to surface online. Glad to hear how well it worked for your lips! The formula is really amazing – it's something others don't understand until they actually try it. I was a skeptic too before I caved and bought it.

  • Stunning! Surprisingly pigmented to!

  • Desperate to try some By Terry products!! Lilly xx http://alittlelilly.blogspot.nl/

  • Sabrina, you are a lovely woman with exceptionally fine taste. It's good to see you becoming braver about showing more of your lovely features–although I do understand the concern about protecting privacy via anonymity. I saw a couple of pictures of you on The a Beauty Professor and could only wonder why we didn't see more of you πŸ™‚

Apropos the balm, I swatched the three you've shown and none of the colors were really stellar on me πŸ™ whereas that vibrant juicy orange is perfect with your coloring. I did take Cherry Bomb for a test drive, though, to see how well it performed on my super dry lips. The addition of color pigments seems to have made the balm a bit more occlusive so the nurturing results seem to last longer. I am now eager to see the entire range of colors. There's sure to be one that will suit my coloring.

    • Thank you Eileen for your kind words and encouragement πŸ™‚ I've been hesitant for quite some time for various reasons, but meeting other bloggers in person and encouragement from readers like you has put me more at ease putting myself out there more.

The three colors I swatched to me are very Parisian-esque and almost resemble primary colors, so I was surprised that I actually liked the Mandarina Pulp. I wanted to love the Cherry Bomb but it was a bit too bright for my taste.

I think the other 3 colors that are at Barneys are more flattering and chic (especially the plum and nude). I can't wait to check those out too.

Sabrina! Thank you very much for such an interesting review! I do have By Terry Baume De Rose in a gloss and jar. Love them both. Will be curious now to try one of the new ones. As I already mentioned before – You look beautiful. I did see you also on Beauty professor and hope maybe we can see more of an eye makeup in action:). Have a great rest of the day!!!

  • I wasn't expecting so much pigmentation from these but they are actually quite nice!

  • They look good enough to eat! Lovely post.

  • I'm intrigued…I'm sure one of these will find their way to me at some point! It looks great on your – we have very different coloring, but we both have well pigmented lips, so I pay attention to your swatches, as well as your reviews, which are well written and spot on!

As Eileen said, I too am happy to see more of your face…and I also saw you on the Beauty Professor's blog. I understand your hesitation, but still glad to see you!
