Korres Zea Mays Powder Blush & Shimmering Eyeshadow

January 13, 2010

Since I’ve recently fallen in love with the Jasmine Lip Butter & Guava Body Butter from Korres, I decided to order a few things from KorresUsa.com to take advantage of last month’s promotional codes and try out a few of their makeup items.

What I ordered:
* Zea Mays Powder Blush in Natural & Purple Brown
* Love Your Lips Set with Nude, Pink Beige, Light Pink Lipgloss & Pomegranate Lip Butter

I also checked out the line at Sephora and got 1 item:
* Grey Brown Eyeshadow, which I think is going to be discontinued since it was only $7

Love Your Lips Set $29 (no swatches because I’m splitting this set up with friends)

Overall thoughts: I haven’t tested the lipglosses so I can’t give a review for those. I do already have the Pomegranate Lip butter which I love for a soft cherry pink tint. It tastes really good too!

The 18S Grey Brown is a pretty medium-pigmented shimmery cool silver taupe. It’s not as pigmented as MAC Satin Taupe or Bobbi Brown Brown Stone Metallic, but not as sheer as MAC Clue. It’s good for $7 if you can still find it, but I think I prefer my Chanel Safari or Nars Ashes to Ashes for a light taupe shimmer.

The Zea Mays blushes are interesting in that they have shimmer in the pot which doesn’t really show up on the skin. Natural is a good nude with a hint of peach/bronze to it. What I like about this is that it doesn’t look muddy and it’s not too orange. The finish is very natural and has decent lasting power. It’s most similar to MAC Warm Soul, but not as frosty or shimmery and more natural looking. I didn’t compare it to Nars Silvana, but Korres Natural is a more wearable less brownish/orange version of the Nars.

Plum Brown also has shimmer, but it doesn’t really show up on the skin. It looks a bit muddy in the compact (it’s darker than the photos show, I think the camera flash picked up the shimmers more). On the skin, I was worried it would look dirty, but I used this today and it actually gives a very natural plummy-pink-brown cheek (hard to envision how this works, but it does). It has more brown than MAC Plum Foolery and Nars Sin. Compared to the new MAC All’s Good blush, it has more purple/plum.

Overall I’m happy with the products although I probably wouldn’t have purchased these at full price. The blushes range from $22 to $24 (depending on whether you purchase them through Korres or Sephora) which is pricey. It’s great that the products are made with natural ingredients, but unfortunately it’s not something I really pay much attention to.

I also ordered a bunch of Guava lotions & shower gel sets too. One of them came with an expiration date for THIS February which is was a bit disappointing. How do they expect one to use up an entire lotion in 2.5 weeks before it expires? I emailed customer service about it so we’ll see what they say.

  • The cherry glosses are lovely! I have two of them and I use them a lot β™₯ I think I need that set!

  • I am a recent Korres convert. I will definitely have to get Natural after seeing your post! I love the glosses- they smell good and are not at all sticky. Another great product is the Mango Lipstick- smooth, glossy, and great color payoff. I am going to see if they have another code soon and try some more things πŸ™‚

Lina, You'll love the glosses–very moisturizing! Have you seen the Golden Goddess set on Sephora's website? Looks like a good buy and nice shades.

Yet another favorable take on the cherry lip glosses: They go on smooth and silky like a good balm and are very moisturizing. They last a decent amount of time for a gloss and aren't sticky or tacky. Some of the colors look more fierce in the tube than they actually are on the lips so I suggest people go to a place like Sephora where they can test them. Korres has a winner with these glosses.

  • Oh how fun! I love the way that Natural blush looks. I also always used to swatch the Grey Brown shadow while at Sephora but I never picked it up. Also I have one or two of the cherry glosses and they are *so* nice! Enjoy the stuff! I hope Korres gets back to you about the expiration dates, too – that's upsetting!

  • I love love love Korres MU line! Totally unexpected too, I was very uninterested at first glance. I have the blushes in #16 pink #15 natural and #18 peach and adore them! Generous amounts and lasting formula, good pigmentation. I love the e/s too although these are hit n miss; 12S and 18S are great basic shades, also the pink 64S and the purple 74S feel like great spring shades. The cherry glosses are my favourite lipglosses ever; shade #25 "natural purple" is MLBB if not a tad lighter and #52 "red" is my go to shade for going out while #11 "light pink" is perfect with a smokey eye (these are all shimmer-free). They have excellent staying power and the cherry scent is addictive!
Of course I do have lip butters as well; wild rose (red), pomegranate (watermelon-y), quince (pink) and mango (orange-y). Love them all!

  • Ooh, happy to see some more Korres on your blog! I have to admit, I haven't tried any of their color cosmetics myself yet, though I did order the Mango Butter lipstick set for my mom (I thought they were quite mom-friendly colors & they have SPF!). I would so jump on those lipsticks for myself except that I'm allergic to the SPF. I've been intrigued by the blushes but I think I'm going to invest in a few NARS and Dior first before I try these…

  • I absolutely love Korres blushes – my fave being the #15 Natural. It has a very natural contour colour for definition for me – NC30 – not quite brown/tan enough to be a bronzer. But for a quick bit of colour – it's perfect. I also really like their Wild Rose fdn….very natural and radiant looking too.
The only product I tried is the lip butters which I like the feeling of, but I'm not so into pot products and there really isn't alot of product IMO!

  • I just found your blog and I love it! This is a good thing and a bad thing. I know I'll be all the more poorer for it. πŸ™‚
