Favorite Sunglasses Ray-Ban, Tom Ford and Celine

Hi everyone! It’s been a little quiet on the blog as we’ve been enjoying the summer! I know the summer season is close to an end but for me it seems like it just started. I’ll be back next week with some new beauty reviews. In the meantime by popular request I’ve put together a roundup of my favorite sunglasses! I’m sharing the styles and colors I wear the most frequently from Ray-Ban, Tom Ford and Celine. Finding a pair that fits my face size and shape is tricky – most aviators don’t fit well and I still haven’t found a cute pair of oversized sunglasses that are flattering (but they seem to look cute on everyone else!). Here are my Top 7 favorites with style code and color names so you can find the exact same pair in case you’ve seen something you liked on my Instagram stories @beautylookbook.

____________

CELINE 48mm CAT EYE

Celine Cat Eye 48mm Sunglasses Black

CELINE Mineral 48mm Cat Eye Sunglasses $440

  • Style Code: CL4003IN MINERAL 01A
  • Size Details: 48mm lens width; 23mm bridge width; 145mm temple length
  • Color: Black/Smoke
  • Where to buy: Nordstrom, Celine, Saks Fifth Avenue

I bought these in Miami last year at the Celine store and they were quite the splurge but I love them! I had normally gravitated towards brown or lighter pink sunglasses but love how the black color goes with everything. They are round and very sturdy but the lens is flat (while most of the styles I have are slightly curved). I haven’t had any issues with scratches or stretching but I keep these in the case at all times I’m not using them.

Other details above: Top, at the Salty Donut in Miami wearing a tank from Re/Done. Bottom, poolside wearing a Tory Burch Costa Bandeau, older color, similar here

____________

CELINE 50mm CAT EYE POLARIZED

CELINE 50mm Polarized Square Sunglasses $450

  • Style Code: CL4004IN 53R
  • Size: 50mm lens width; 22mm bridge width; 150mm temple length
  • Color: Havana/Green
  • Where to buy: Celine, Nordstrom, Saks

This pair was one of my more trendy purchases. The Celine sales associate recommended this style for my face shape but I didn’t buy them until a year later when I had some Nordstrom notes from points saved up and ordered them from Nordstrom. I love them! I feel like Celine makes really sturdy sunglasses with some weight which makes them feel more luxurious to me. They also make this style in a non-polarized version but in different color variations.

Other details above: Top, at Pass-A-Grille Beach wearing the Sun Hat from Eric Javits in Bark, old coverup from J.Crew, beach towel from Parachute Home, flip flips from Tory Burch. Bottom, wearing sweater tank from Reformation, lip gloss is the Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil-Infused Lip Gloss in Wild Card.

____________

TOM FORD LAUREN

Tom Ford Lauren Sunglasses

Tom Ford Lauren 52mm Sunglasses $395

  • Style Code: TF614 52F
  • Size: 52mm lens width; 19mm bridge width; 140mm temple length
  • Color: Dark Havana/Gradient Brown
  • Where to buy: Nordstrom

I had these on my wishlist for many many months. I was lucky and found these on sale early in the spring when a number of retailers were marking things down 25% or 30% off site-wide. I saved over $100 off and was thrilled. The size is perfect for me!

Other details: sun hat is Eric Javits (color is Bark), tank from Reformation, purse is Chloe Mini Marcie, waterbottle from Lululemon, liquid lipstick is MAC Powder Kiss Liquid in Date Maker.

____________

RAY-BAN HIGH STREET 51mm

Ray-Ban High Street RB4259 Beige BrownRay-Ban High Street Sunglasses $159

  • Style Code: RB4259 6166/13
  • Size: 51mm lens width; 20mm bridge width; 145mm temple length
  • Color: Shiny Opal Beige Brown
  • Where to Buy: Shopbop

I ordered these from Shopbop for the color and love how neutral and versatile they are. The 51mm lens is smaller in width than some of my other styles but still works for my face shape and size. They also make this color in the 53mm Phantos style if you prefer a wider lens.

Other details: Hamptons Sun Hat from Eric Javits in Black, Swimsuit Beachbunny, Lip Oil in Primal Instinct from NARS.

____________

RAY-BAN WAYFARER II SUNGLASSES 52mm

Ray-Ban Wayfarer II 52mm Polarized

Ray-Ban Wayfarer II Polarized Sunglasses 52mm $203

  • Style Code: RB2185 901/58
  • Size: 52mm lens width, 18 mm bridge width, 145mm temple length
  • Color: Black
  • Where to Buy: Nordstrom (also available in non-polarized version)

This is a smaller version of their WayfarerII with a 52mm lens versus the regular 55mm lens. For size, I think both sizes work but I have a slight preference for the wider ones because they cover more of the face and give more shade to the eyes. Larger ones shown if you scroll down to the last photo at the bottom. For the type of lens I don’t have a preference for polarized vs non-polarized lenses and have a mix of both options. I do notice there is a stronger contrast and sharpness in color to what I see with polarized lenses although they tend to be more expensive than regular ones.

Other details: tank from Alo Yoga (style is New Moon), canvas baseball hat from Madewell, lip oil is Hourglass Cameo

____________

RAY-BAN PHANTOS 53mm

Ray-Ban Phantos 53mm Sunglasses

Ray-Ban Phantos 53mm Round Sunglasses $144

  • Style Code: RB4305 820/73
  • Size: 53mm lens width; 19mm bridge width; 145mm temple length
  • Color: Striped Havana/Brown
  • Where to Buy: Ray-Ban, Sunglass Hut

This is the style and color I get asked the most about. I think you girls love the brownish/red color of the frames! Anytime I wear them so many of you send messages asking for the style number. I like the shape and style because it’s more round versus rectangular. The color of the lens is almost a happy kind of color when you look through them. As usual with Ray-ban this is also available in a polarized option. If you are looking online and notice prices are different with a certain style – check to see if you’re looking at a polarized option (they tend to be priced a little higher).

Other details, wearing the Mita visor by Helen Kaminski, white button down is the Rails Ellis Cotton Shirt

____________

RAY-BAN WAYFARER II SUNGLASSES

Ray-Ban Wayfarer II 55mm

Ray-Ban Wayfarer II Classic 55mm Sunglasses $204

  • Style Code: RB2185 902/57
  • Size: 55mm lens width; 18mm bridge width; 145mm temple length
  • Color: Spotted Havana Brown, Polarized
  • Where to Buy: Ray-Ban

These are my most-worn sunglasses. I feel like the polarized version isn’t widely available (except for Ray-ban) but you can still find this in the non-polarized option in a wide range of colors (non-polarized option is also less expensive).

____________

Favorite Sunglasses Ray-Ban, Tom Ford and Celine

Hope you found this roundup helpful! For me my favorites are from Ray-Ban for the price, quality and classic styles. I do own a few older designer styles from Chanel and Gucci but find I don’t wear them as much anymore and in recent years haven’t really looked into the newer options. If you have any favorites please let me know in the comments! I’m still in search for aviators that work for me – I had a couple of Marc Jacobs rimless options years ago but have worn them so much they are pretty scratched up now and I can’t wear them anymore.

Hope you are all doing well! Beauty posts to resume next week.

Birchbox Beauty in Bloom Box for Spring (Limited-Edition)

May 14, 2016
Birchbox launched a new limited-edition box for spring called Beauty in Bloom ($64 for a $188 retail value). Many of you are familiar with the monthly subscription boxes they offer for both women and men, but they also have special Limited-Edition Boxes available that are really good deals. The Beauty in Bloom Box is one of those boxes you can purchase whether or not you’re a subscriber that has a pretty mix of makeup, skincare and accessories – all of which I will use. Sometimes pre-made kits can be a miss even if the set is a good deal – if there’s a good portion in the set you don’t think you’ll use or are interested in trying, even a good deal can be a waste. This one is a really good one and has a mix of full-sized items with trial-sized minis.

Here’s what’s in the box, I’ve linked the full-size individual items from Birchbox in the image for reference if you’re only interested in some of the items but I’ll list them below as well:

The box comes beautifully packaged in a large pink box which makes it all ready to go for gifting if you’re looking for a spring birthday gift (or for any occasion):
  • NEST Fragrance Votive Candle (mini) in Grapefruit – I tried NEST for the first time over the holiday and was so impressed with the throw and strength of the candles, I find they are reasonably priced, this is my first time smelling grapefruit and it’s sweet but not overly sweet – the little votive fills our entire place with the scent in a matter of minutes
  • NEST Fragrances Indigo Eau de Parfum – this is my first time trying NEST fragrances, the little one comes with a rollerball tip which is really convenient, Indigo is a very sweet blackberry floral, along the lines of Jo Malone Blackberry and Bay but more floral, it’s very strong but doesn’t cause migraines for me, I’m undecided on this one because it’s extremely sweet, but I like having a decent sized mini to try out
  • Lollia Relax Shea Butter Hand Cream – Travel Size – my box has the lavender one which I have not yet had a chance to try but the packaging is really cute and I like lavender scents for hand creams, since the box is limited-edition I wanted to write about it and let you know before it sold out
  • Davines OI/Oil – I used this many years ago and did a blog post on this in the early days of the Beauty Look Book blog, my local salon carried the line but over the years they downsized what they carried in store so I never repurchased, it’s a versatile oil you can use pre-heat styling or after, I love the way it smells which is hard to describe but it adds shine and makes the hair super soft without feeling heavy or greasy, there are over 4,700 reviews on this one online at Birchbox, I really believe this one is worth the splurge of a full bottle, I need to make a note to myself to order
  • Laura Gellar Baked Blush in Maui (full size) – different boxes get different colors, mine had Maui inside which is a soft matte pink, in general I don’t like baked matte blushes because they almost always darken on my skin and make it look flat/lifeless, Maui is a soft buildable pink with a smooth texture that’s flawless, I’m still testing this out but it didn’t darken on my skin
  • Stila HUGE Extreme lash mascara – I love mascara minis but am the biggest skeptic when it comes to trying mascara, I have straight lashes and often times mascaras do not hold the curl or smudge like crazy on me, I had little to no expectation for this one and was surprised to find how amazing this one is, it held the curl, made lashes look huge without being clumpy and did not smudge, the only downside is I found it very challenging to remove at the end of the day, but given the effect and results I’m willing to overlook that
  • Mally Beauty Eye-Amplifying Shadow Liner (full size) in Stone – there are different color options for the boxes, I’m not sure if you’re able to pick out the color, Stone is a cool silver taupe that blends with impressive pigment, you do have to blend quickly because once it sets it does not budge at all, I like the formula but the color seems on the light side to be a liner, it works well as a shadow for me
  • Darphin Intral Toner (travel-size) is something I’ve always wanted to try but didn’t want to buy the full size without being able to test it, I haven’t used this one yet but it’s on my list to try out in the upcoming week
  • Smith and Cult The Shining Lip Lacquer in Hi-Speed Sonnet is a medium rosey pink with high shine and shimmer, as many of you know most of the Smith and Cult glosses are very sheer in color, this one had a lot more pigment and color payoff compared to the others I’ve tried
  • Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist (travel-size) is a classic staple as far as face mists go, it’s a gentle and soft refresher you can apply before moisturizer
  • Umbra Prisma Tray is the cutest tray I’ve seen in a long time and well made for the price (it’s $15 separately), I love how the brass accent adds an edgy but classic touch to it while the neutral canvas base makes it look feminine and soft

Swatches of some of the color items:

Quick snapshot of the lips and cheeks:

One last look:
For $64 I think the Beauty in Bloom Box is a steal. I think it’s a well balanced kit that has a little bit of everything and all the items in it are products I can see myself using. I think accessories are sometimes hard to pick out for others or for kits – everyone has different styles or tastes. There have been some kits with hair accessories I would never ever wear. The tray in this one is one I think is possibly universal regardless of style or age – it makes a great accent piece. The minis are generously sized which gives you more than just a 1-3x use so you can give them a better test drive before deciding to buy any full sized version.

I give this one a thumbs up. You can find the Birchbox Beauty in Bloom Box for $64 online at Birchbox. Do note it’s a limited-edition box.
