Burberry Beauty Light Glow Natural Blushes

July 13, 2012
This month marks the two year anniversary since Burberry launched their Beauty Line at select Nordstrom counters. To celebrate, Nordstrom is offering a limited-edition set of Lip Glows featuring the top 3 sellers for their Anniversary Sale this year in Rosewood, Blush and Nude Beige. The glosses are all full-sized and will retail for $65. In addition, Nordstrom San Francisco is offering a special gift with a $125 purchase which includes a black Burberry cosmetic bag, mirrored compact, mini lipstick and mini Body fragrance (see the details and photos on Cafe Makeup). You can ask for Adina at the Burberry Counter at Nordstrom San Francisco (415) 243-8500 ext. 1422.

Those who are fortunate enough to have visited a Burberry Beauty counter in person know first hand that everything in the line is of extremely high quality. The products are very well made and the packaging is heavy-weight and sturdy. The blushes, lip colors and glosses are lightly scented with a soft floral scent, but it’s something I find subtle for my sensitive nose. I’ve reviewed a number of Burberry items before, but since the brand is still rather exclusive to a select few counters, many have asked for a comprehensive post on all the blushes. Up until this month, I had purchased all except two of the blushes. Burberry kindly sent me two for review.

To recap: Burberry’s blushes are called Light Glow Natural Blushes. They retail for $42 each for 7g/0.24 oz. and are made in Italy. Each blush comes in a mirrored square compact and small angled brush. The quality and shape/cut of the bristles is very good the brush is big enough to contour the cheek. I personally prefer a full-sized brush, but the ones in the compact work for when you need a touch-up. Each blush comes with an embossed pattern in the signature Burberry check pattern. The texture of these is finely milled, almost powdery to the touch. When you swipe these with a finger or a brush, the texture looks so lightweight it appears they might apply chalky. Not the case at all.

At first glance, I did a quick pass-over all the blushes. In the compacts they looked so dark and when swatched on the hand it appeared they would be almost drab on the skin. I must advise you to have one of the counter artists apply this on your face. The application of these is absolutely flawless and the colors are easily layerable to control the intensity. These are among my favorites for blushes. I’ve already hit pan on Earthy and Peony (I’m on my second for each). Most of these have a matte finish on the skin but not flat. There are a couple shades that have some shimmer but it doesn’t really show up.

The description of the colors plus other resources (hope this isn’t too link-heavy):

  • Russet 01 is a medium reddish burnt orange color with subtle shimmer. I thought this would be an unflattering color and too orangey but it’s surprisingly flattering. Much like Chanel Tempting Beige and NARS Lovejoy. This one provides a gorgeous contour. See it here, on Cafe Makeup, on Orange2LA and Temptalia.
  • Rose 03 is a deeper warm pink rose. There is tiny bit of shimmer to this. Again, even though it’s on the darker side, it’s still very wearable and makes a lovely flushed pink blush. This color is very pigmented so I prefer a looser brush (versus a dense one) to apply. See Rose also featured on Cafe Makeup and crystalis007.
  • Cameo 02 is a dusty classic rose. This was the first blush I tried from the line and thought it would be too dark. I don’t recommend this one for oily skin as it did darken slightly. Make sure your cheek area is well powdered (not too heavy but just well-covered) to help the color be truer to what you see in the compact. This one seemed similar to other Bobbi Brown blushes (like Blushed and Desert Rose) but what I love about Burberry Cameo is that even if it did darken a little on some occasions, it doesn’t turn muddy or brownish. See Cameo on Temptalia and Blush is the New Black.
  • Peony 04 is a light pink in the compact that looks powdery. On the skin it’s more of a neutral medium angelic pink. It looks a lot better on the face than in the compact and swatched, but still it’s true to color when applied with a brush (sounds confusing but it’s a beautiful shade). This is one of my favorites. It’s easy to wear everyday or coordinate with a stronger lip. See this one on Lisa Eldridge, Fruity Lashes and a Touch of Blusher.
  • Blossom 05 is bright coral shimmer. This is a stunning color on the cheeks. Another very pigmented shade but still easy to wear and layer. See this beauty on The Non-Blonde, The Ultimate Makeup and Orange2LA.
  • Tangerine 06 is a soft browned-peach. Not quite what I’d envision “tangerine” to be, but more of a faded peachy brown. This is a gorgeous shade on fairer skintones but is still dark enough for medium-tan skintones. I think it’s particularly stunning on Liz at Cafe Makeup and Christine from Temptalia. It’s a classic.
  • Earthy 07 is a matte taupe. When I first saw it I found it looked like death. On the skin it works wonderfully as a contour. Some might find it wears better when layered with a warmer color (such as Russet, Tangerine or Blossom). I think adding pinks personally makes it look chalky and more grey. Adding something with warmth creates a natural contour. Some have told me they use this as an eyeshadow, I personally haven’t tried it that way though. See the natural contours on Messy Wands, comparisons on Cafe Makeup and also on a look at Orange2LA.
  • Misty 08 light powder blue pink. It’s very similar to Peony, just a few shades lighter and more blue-based. I prefer Peony only because I have medium-toned skin. You can see it definitely shows up on Delicate Hummingbird. On Makeup and Beauty Blog it’s more subtle. For me, I’m somewhere in between.

I personally really like Burberry Beauty blushes. Yes, there are many other brands that offer similar neutrals, but I like the texture of these blushes and the fact that they don’t turn muddy or brownish on my skin (like some neutrals can like MAC Prism/Cubic, Bobbi Brown Tawny/Blushed/Sand Pink etc.). $42 is steep for a blush but Burberry has made these very high quality and well worth the price in my opinion. Burberry Beauty can be found at select Nordstrom counters and also at a few Saks stores. It’s also available online at both retailers. Note that Nordstrom.com appears to only offer a few of the shades. This appears to be a glitch. My suggestion would be to order through a counter to take advantage of the gift with purchase offerings.

Those who want to shop the sale and take advantage of the gift, click on the Burberry tag below to search for prior Burberry reviews. Nude-pink lip lovers will find a diverse range of neutral lipsticks in the line. My personal top ten picks (all featured on this blog):

Peony Blush, Russet Blush, Blossom Blush
Cameo Pink Lip Stick, Rosewood Lipstick
Nude Beige Lip Gloss, Blush Lip Gloss
Rosewood Eyeshadow, Midnight Brown Eyeshadow, Pale Barely Eyeshadow

Have you tried any Burberry Beauty blushes? Thoughts? Favorites? For those who have tried other things in the line, what are the items you love?

Russet, Peony, Blossom, Tangerine, Earthy and Misty were all purchased by me.
Two shades in Rose and Cameo were provided for review.

I have Peony blush and absolutely love it – it gives me that almost porcelain doll look, which I happen to love (I'm very fair). I think I want Cameo, too, and maybe Tangerine.

I also have Blush lip gloss and it's become my favorite gloss. I was going to buy the lip gloss trio but, well, I have Blush, so there's not much point. My fave go-to highlighter compact is their Sheer Summer Glow–I keep it in my purse in case I need a pick-up during the day.

I'm hoping to try their powder foundation next, I think, and their concealer, and I'd like one of the lip mists and another lip cover. They really are my favorite beauty brand.

  • ahhhsoNeo July 13, 2012 at 5:09 am

These look really good. I have yet to see Burberry at my Nordstrom counter:(

  • Chris El @ MyFashionTrendencies July 13, 2012 at 6:55 am

I was just at the Nordstrom counter today to pick up the gloss trio. I'm a huge fan of Burberry's lip mists. I love the sheerness and glossiness of the lip mists and constantly reach for Feather Pink.

wow, thank you so much for the post and swatches! amazing for everyone looking to order them sight unseen

  • Sophia1105 July 13, 2012 at 8:29 am

Cameo looks gorgeous but I'm not sure the price is in my favor. I'm too fickle to invest that much in one shade of blush I may or may not love.

  • Anonymous July 13, 2012 at 9:01 am

I just received Tangerine (ordered from the Burberry website) the other day and it is such a nice color! I don't have anything like it. It's refreshing to see it among all my pink blushes and it is not as dark as bronze powders. It looks really good and blends well with my skin tone, it does more than just 'reddening' or brightening my cheeks. For reference I am a NC35 with MAC.

I also love their eyeshadows, very soft. My favorite is Pale Barley which I use as an everyday blender color.

I bought one of their brushes as well (liner brush) and works great! Very soft and does the job.

  • Anonymous July 13, 2012 at 9:11 am

well , I've tried almost everything.
The concealer is wonderful, I even find it better, in terms of coverage, than YSL's TE.
Absolutely love: Primrose Hill Pink and Golden Peach Lipcovers (from spring's collection I think), Almond (number 06) and pale rose (number 12) sheer eyeshadows, the midnight blonde mascara, and camelia pink lipmist.
My MUA (attica stores in Athens, Greece), the always wonderful Raphael, told that what we were long expecting, eyeshadow quads, are coming in this fall. exciting!!

FANTASTIC review. I've been coveting these for some time, but with next to access to a counter, I've been hesitant to order blindly. Thank you so much for this!

Thank you for this detailed, thorough review. I really need this. You are the best! 🙂

I will have to see if there is any store closer than the SFA in New York that carries Burberry! I must see it all in person! Do you think that Earthy could work as a bronzer for very fair skin?

    • Monica August 3, 2012 at 12:05 am

Cafe Makeup says Earthy is great for contouring on pale skin, hope that helps!

  • Cindy (Prime Beauty) July 13, 2012 at 2:52 pm

By the way, the Burberry counter at Bellevue Seattle has the same GWP available for the Anniversary sale.

I am in NYC, which counter has Burberry, does anyone know??? Thanxx.

    • Sabrina July 13, 2012 at 11:59 pm

      Saks NYC has Burberry 🙂

  • Isla July 13, 2012 at 4:30 pm

Ooh, you've hit pan on two of these? Wow…

Would you be able to do a post on things you've bought multiple times/things on which you've hit pan? 🙂

    • Sabrina July 16, 2012 at 1:15 am

Hi Isla, thank you for your request. I'd love to be able to do one, however due to time constraints, I probably won't be able to go through my entire collection to note all the ones I've hit pan on. You might have noticed I went from posting daily to now only 1-2x per week this year. Sorry! I can tell you the things I've hit pan on recently: Edward Bess Daydream Bronzer (original one), Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel (cream tub bronzer), those 2 Burberry Blushes, Chanel Boy Rouge Coco Shine, Jo Malone Vitamin E Lip Balm, D&G Powder Foundation (multiple times), Chanel Powder Foundation (also multiple times), one of the NARS Multiples (I can't recall which one, either South Beach or Portofino I think), NARS Mascara (Volumizing), Armani Eyes to Kill Mascaras (various formulas), several other MAC lipsticks (VGV, Hue, Moderne … VGVI, I can't recall them all), Armani Powder Blush #2.

    • Isla July 16, 2012 at 1:28 am

🙂 Oh, thank you! That's quite a list right there!
I just figure that anything you've hit pan on would be worth a look (or a long stare… 🙂 )
I did notice you have been posting less these days; so I'm sorry to have bothered you! Thank you for this list!

    • Sabrina July 16, 2012 at 1:45 am

Isla, never a bother! I hope the list helps some 🙂 I'm just swamped by my non-blogging life these days and I'm really happy when I do have time to snap a few photos here and there 🙂

  • Caitlin Clive July 13, 2012 at 4:57 pm

ok. I love Cameo!!! I got it over the weekend, life changed!
What do you use for powder? I used to use Burberry and MAC, but I kept breaking out.
Have you heard of this? My esthetician gave it to me, totally new brand, but it's improved my skin like crazy. GlyMed Plus? Anyone heard of this?

    • Sabrina July 13, 2012 at 6:30 pm

Caitlin, I've only tried Burberry's liquid foundation and glow and both gave me serious allergic reactions/breakouts. That's why I am scared to try their powder. Every powder and foundation from MAC also gives me problems.

I use Chanel's powder foundation and dolce and gabbana's powder foundations.

  • Eileen July 13, 2012 at 5:16 pm

You have a fantastic collection and it's great that you post such accurate swatches. I'm sure they're very helpful to people who don't have a Burberry counter close by. And for those of us who do, they're incentive to visit the counter and shop 🙂 Great post, Sabrina!

  • JoanneP July 13, 2012 at 5:38 pm

Great post! I finally have the budget for Burberry. This post came out just at the right time for me. Thanks so much xoxo

    • Sabrina July 16, 2012 at 1:15 am

Yay! I hope you find some new loves from Burberry 🙂

    • JoanneP July 21, 2012 at 9:16 pm

Oh yeah, I got 6 eyeshadows, 1 lipstick, and 1 lip gloss from Nordstrom South Coast Plaza. They gave me a GWP too 🙂 And I also got Burberry foundation and luminous base samples. Now I have to have the foundation. Thanks to this post, Tangerine and Cameo go on my wish list.

By the way, have you tried their bronzers in the permanent line? Any thoughts?

      Thanks so much xoxo

  • Perilously Pale July 13, 2012 at 6:45 pm

Absolutely gorgeous! I really need to try Burberry. If they were available online to Canada I'm sure I'd have quite the collection ammassed by now! Thanks for the post. It is so nice to see them all together like this!

  • Elle Martini July 13, 2012 at 7:59 pm

Thanks for this, just what I've been seeking.

  • MSodapop July 13, 2012 at 10:18 pm

the swatches look gorgeous! thanks for sharing! i need to look into these <3

  • kellinicole86 July 14, 2012 at 1:54 am

These blushes are def. on my to try list! I love Burberry's eyeshadows and am sure these will be equally as good.

  • Anne JF July 14, 2012 at 4:56 am

I have a small Burberry collection. Blossom became my everyday blush, eventhough I have many, I still go back to it (even after getting Chanel Fleur de Lotus). I also have Earthy, but find it a bit weird as a contour (NC35 in Mac for reference).

As for eyeshadows, I own Midnight Brown, Pale Barley, Rosewood and Trench. I completely love the texture. The only texture I prefer over this one, is Shiseido.

For lipsticks, I love both lip covers and lip mists. My very favorite is Field Rose.

I'm also using the foundation, but I'm also having some breakouts, so it scares me I may be allergic to it.

Loved this review, it's very helpful for everyone who wants to start purchasing Burberry Beauty.

  • memoiselle July 14, 2012 at 1:26 pm

I never had any bad experience with Burberry's beauty products. Their products are mostly flawless. I have Cameo and after looking at your swatch I think I need misty too 🙂

  • Zeynep July 14, 2012 at 2:38 pm

wow this post is AMAZING! thank you so much for the detailed review & pics. helps people like me with no Burberry counter in Colorado order easily online. Bravo Sabrina!

  • Becca @ The Beauty Sample July 14, 2012 at 10:47 pm

This was a really amazing overview of the Natural Glow Blushes–loved it! Seriously, I saw the pic and I almost died and went to blush heaven. I loooove Burberry blushes (I only own Cameo though) and can't wait to add to my collection (don't even know where to start, they're all SO gorgeous!)

  • Rola July 15, 2012 at 5:23 am

I enjoy wearing Tangerine and Blossom. I am glad Adina at SF Nordstrom got mentioned, she is sweet and very knowledgeable on the Burberry products.

  • Claire July 15, 2012 at 7:07 pm

Sabrina, what an excellent review and stunning photography!! I appreciate you doing this, I've forgotten how much I used to love my Peony blush. I'm thinking of getting Earthy now as a contour, would you mind commenting which blush would be appropriate for the "pop" color: Tangerine or Blossom? I'm leaning towards Tangerine as I have NC20-25 skin (or I normally use Chanel VA Beige Tendre 20). I've got a couple of other peachy/corally Chanel such as Espiegle and Horizon de Chanel, I wonder if any of those would be comparable to Tangerine. Any thought? Thanks in advance for your help.

    • Sabrina July 16, 2012 at 1:18 am

Hi Claire, I think Blossom definitely would pop more. In terms of comparisons, Tangerine is more earthy/rusty on the skin, hard to describe but more natural than the Chanels you mentioned. I definitely recommend you check out the links above, I think Temptalia is your skintone, I think she might have Tangerine swatched on her face. Also check Cafe Makeup, I think she has some lovely face shots to show how they look on fairer skin 🙂

    • Claire July 16, 2012 at 4:46 am

Hi Sabrina, thanks for your thoughtful reply. Yes, I read on Cafe Makeup that Amy had a wonderful makeover at Burberry's, and they used Tangerine + Earthy on her. I'll go over to Temptalia and check her out as well. I'm also thinking it may be just a matter of using the right brush to pick up just the right amount of color. Thank you again !!

  • Coal Harbour Luxury Home for Rent July 16, 2012 at 8:36 pm

Thx for this fantastic post! Is Burberry Blossom a good dupe for Chanel's Fleur de Lotus? I am bummed that the Fleur de Lotus is not available in Canada, but we do have Burberry's Blossom here. Karin

    • Anonymous August 2, 2012 at 7:44 am

Chanel FdL blush is on strawberrynet if you are still keen to get it

  • Anonymous July 16, 2012 at 8:39 pm

Thanks for this fantastic post!! Any color you recommend from Burberry that would be a good dupe for Chanel's Fleur de Lotus blush? We have limited Chanel here, but we have Burberry.

  • Maria July 18, 2012 at 1:11 am

Fantastic review & photos as usual! How do you think Burberry's blushes compare to Tom Ford blushes? I was thinking of splurging on TF Frantic Pink, but now that I see your review on Burberry's blushes, maybe I should just buy Peony or Misty. What do think? Or are both brands too good to pass up? I would love to see what you think. I just recently started using blush & the first one I bought was Sunday Riley's Blushing all thanks to your review & swatches. I love it! 😉
    Many thanks! x Maria

Ooh, good question! 🙂 I'm wondering now too! Still so many things to try…Edward Bess blushes too…
