Dior Spring 2018 Glow Addict Makeup | The Beauty Look Book

Dior Spring 2018 is here with a beautiful collection of feminine pinks called Glow Addict. A handful of items have made their way to counters at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Saks Fifth Avenue etc. but a number of things appear to be exclusive online to Dior.com. You may have to do a bit of shopping around to find all the pieces if you’re in the US. International countries often get slightly different variations. Today’s post is Part 1 of Dior Spring. I’ll have a separate post on the new Addict Lip Glows.

What I hauled from the Dior Spring 2018 Glow Addict Collection. Everything swatched in today’s post is limited-edition:

Up first are the two new Diorskin Nude Air Luminizer Glow Addict highlighters. I’m obsessed with the four other Nude Air Luminizers and the holiday Precious Rocks version is pretty as well. Nothing would have stopped me from getting both of the new ones. A few of you expressed a bit of concern about the “holographic” quality but I assure you these aren’t really like true holographic shimmers. They’re Dior’s version of the holographic trend and to me they’re very wearable and un-unicorn like compared to the trendy ones. Both Holo Pink and Holo Gold have highly reflective particles making them more sparkly than the regular ones (which are more metallic).

Holo Pink is a cool shimmering pink. Holo Gold is more glitzy with bigger chunks of sparkle and more iridescent with a pretty gold peach pink opal-like sheen. I prefer Holo Pink for everyday wear as it has a more finely milled shimmer. Holo Gold is a lot more sparkly with more visible chunks of shimmer, to me this is a bit much for everyday but that’s just my take.

Next is the 5 Couleurs Glow Addict Eyeshadow Palette in Flirt. There are two options and I picked the one I thought would be less pink, but it’s still on the pink side. Pigment is medium but buildable and finish of the shadows have a natural sheen. Quality overall is very good and if you like these kinds of colors then it’s a great pick. I broke my palette buying rule as this one had 2 shades I didn’t think I’d wear but thought I could still make it work. For me it’s still too pink so it will probably be regifted to a friend. Lasting power is good over an eyeshadow base, finish is smooth and easy to blend.

I ordered one of the Rouge Dior Lipsticks in Idyllic Matte 641 which is a velvety medium but bright matte pink coral. This one I added on accident as I meant to order the nude one Poetic Matte 525. These appear to be Dior.com exclusives as I haven’t seen them anywhere else so there’s no place to test in person. As far as matte lipsticks go it’s very comfortable, non-drying and has a smooth velvety finish without making the lips look like prunes or raisins. Lasting power is like a regular lipstick, there will be transfer and it will fade after a few hours but with the Dior lipsticks I really don’t mind reapplying.

Last but not least are the four Dior Vernis Scented Nail Lacquers which also appear to be exclusive to Dior.com. They’re supposed to be scented with a floral fragrance but to me they smell just like regular nail polish and once they’ve dried I can’t detect any smell. All four are opaque. You do need two coats with each shade but application is smooth and flawless and I think each one is perfect. Love is a bright warm pink, Desire is a cool-toned pink mauve, Thrill has a semi-sheer finish but still has full coverage with two coats, this one is a muted purple mauve, Flirt is a pretty deep shimmering purple (it’s deep but doesn’t look black on the nails, you can still tell it’s purple). The colors don’t appear to be the most unique that I’ve seen but they have the right mix of pink and purple to look really pretty and the formula is one of the best that I’ve tried in terms of application, shine and lasting power.

Overall after testing these for a few weeks now I 100% love Holo Pink and the four nail polishes. The other items are exceptional in terms of quality and pigment but not quite must-haves for my personal taste. Holo Gold is a bit too glitzy, Flirt is definitely too pink and the lipstick is pretty but I’ll probably feel more in the mood for brighter coral pinks once the sunshine returns and weather warms up. Addict Lip Glows to be posted soon!

  • I think the lipstick looks gorgeous on you!

Also I think I have to get the Love polish. It’s such a pretty pink/coral!

I like your palette buying rule re: skipping a palette if it has more than two shades you won’t use. Do you scale that to the size of the palette at all (like it could have three shades if the palette were larger)?

You look lovely in this new Dior (and your hair is gorgeous!!).

    • I usually do it in proportion to number of colors, so if it has like 20 shades and I like 18 I’ll probably go for it.

What perfect timing – I was just eyeing these and bought two of the Lip Glows. In your review of the Lip Glows, would you address the differences (if any) between the Dior Lip Glow, MAC Tendertalk and the Bobbi Brown Extra Lip Tint? I’d love to hear your thoughts!
    Thanks!

  • Glenda

I’m totally that person who has a gripe with the misuse of the term “holographic” when it comes to beauty products. Anything “holo” just irks me and instantly makes me want to steer clear of it. Good thing these are not calling my name either.

The lipstick looks really good on you. πŸ™‚

  • The lipstick color is totally me !

  • Deborah Hayes

Perfect timing! I had seen these limited edition items on the Dior website and was so curious as to how they look and perform. At first I was leaning towards the nail polish in “Love”; however, after seeing “Thrill” on you I have changed my mind! Thank you for another lovely post.

  • I’m liking the taupe purple shade of the quint, very nice. I’m loving how you include a profile picture of yourself wearing the products to the review – it tells me how professional, on-point and hard working you are Sabrina!

I’m loving the Holo pink, but as I’m quite fair (NC15) the #2 looks also a pretty highlight.. I don’t have a strong pink highlight except in the TF Winter Soleil Cool palette. Which one do you think I should go for, Holo pink or #2 if I’d like a pinkish, bright highlight but different enough from TF?

Hi Laura, I’m also quite fair and have been told by MAC MAs that I’m NC15. I have both Dior’s older 002 and the new Holo Pink. They are both beautiful and create different effects. The 002 is lighter, cooler, easily creates a silvery spotlight look, and is somewhat frosty. The Holo Pink is darker, warmer, gleams without being frosty, and has a subtle color shift. On my fair skin, Holo Pink has the stronger pink presence. For day wear, I like to use a Wayne Goss #14 brush to apply them lightly. I’m in my mid-seventiies β€” definitely not unicorn material ! 😁 β€” so restraint is key for me. When I apply them heavier and more directionally, though, they are stunning for evening. With either one of the Diors I find I can go as subtle or as obvious as I want just depending on how I apply them. They’re both beauties. 002 is a classic highlighter and Holo Pink is a refined take on the β€œholographic” trend.

      • Thank you so much for the comment Eileen!! I think I need to go and swatch both. By your description I’m interested in the Holo Pink, as I’m not into anything frosty or spotlight look, but prefer something more subtle yet looking for a pinkier highlight. “Holographic” unicorn look is not for me either, but a subtle shift could be pretty.

I currently have the Rouge Bunny Rouge powder highlighter in the pinky shade, which is very lovely, but I’m looking for something with a little more punch (with pink undertone). I think you might really enjoy this highlighter, as it’s hard to overdo!

    • Hi Laura, Eileen put it perfectly! I think they’re different enough to justify both Holo Pink and Lavender Lure.

  • Kaitlyn Barnes

I’m in LOVE with Love!! Do you think you could skip it if you have Dior Wonderland?

  • ANGELA

I ordered both holo luminizers in pink and gold but I don’t think either are for everyday but they are beautiful. I also purchased all the Dior Addict lip Glows they are my favorite for everyday.

  • The lipsticks look gorgeous!

I love Dior highlighters – I have to really exercise my willpower to not get any of the ones from this collection πŸ˜‰ Thank you for great review and swatches, as always!
I do have a question that is completely unrelated but I’m hoping you could help me out… I’m in need of a new bronzer and I’m torn between the Hourglass DIffused Bronze Light, Becca Bronzed Bondi, and Tom Ford Terra… Which one would you recommend for someone with light NC20 skin with neutral undertones? I’m sorry to bug you with this but I’ve seen the swatches of all of them, and they all seem nice…

  • TraceyEB

Hi Sabrina, I’m wondering how Dior Holo Gold compares to MAC Show Gold highlighter (P and LE in 2017 Snow Ball collection). I suspect they might be similar, possinly with level of intensity differences.

    • I can’t compare them at the moment, most of my items are still in boxes as we just moved. Off the top of my head the MAC is a lot more iridescent and sparkly. HTH!

  • The Holo Pink is so pretty! I love DIOR makeup packaging the most <3

  • Petunia

Gorgeous girl. Love the lipstick on you!

  • GreenTea

I’m sold on the luminizers (which I never use), the eyeshadow palete, and the dark nail colour. I do wonder how that compares to other ones from Dior as well. I’m still mourning not getting Liquorice all those years ago.

    • Ahhh … I think this year’s purple is similar to Licorice (not sure how to spell sorry!) but with more purple.

  • The collection by Dior is gorgeous, I really love both Flirt and Thrill also in the collection. Both the pink and golden highlights are gorgeous.
