Clarins Double Serum Next Generation Serum Review

One of my newest skincare discoveries is the Clarins Double Serum Hydric + Lipidic Serum ($89 for 1 fl oz/30 ml). This is a reformulation of one of Clarins’ cult anti-aging classics which they call their Next Generation Serum. I’ve never tried the previous versions but Clarins reached out and asked me to put this one to the test and after regular daily use I can say it’s a winner for me.

The Clarins Double Serum is an age control serum. It’s packed with two anti-aging serums in one and there’s a dial that allows you to control the dosage you dispense. I’ve been using the smaller one as I find it is better suited for my combination skin, warm climate and summer season. The larger dose is what they call a power shot for normal or dry skin, cold dry climates or winter. I’ve tried both dosage options and for me the smaller dose is the best for both day and night. The power shot was too strong and rich for my skin to handle, even at night.

This is a wrinkle treatment that has 20+ plant extracts including Tumeric to help with wrinkles, fine lines and boost radiance. The description says you’ll see results in 7 days and after using this a multitude of ways I have definitely seen an improvement in skin texture. I did see results after using this daily for 7 days (morning and night) and I did notice brighter smoother skin after that period. I especially noticed improvement when using this at night – I find my skin noticably smoother and fine lines diminished on my forehead when I wake up.

I’ve continued using this for the past month on a regular basis although after the 7 day period I’ve used it on and off with other serums in my routine for day but have used it nightly on a more regular basis. The smaller dose allows the product to last longer for me as a little goes a long way. If you think you’ll use the larger dose and have dry skin I’d recommend option for the larger size.

Clarins Double Serum Next Generation Serum Review

I have very sensitive skin – you might have noticed that I am prone to allergic reactions with a lot of fragranced skincare and even foundations. This one was suitable for my sensitive skin without any irritation. It doesn’t leave any sticky residue even though it has that serum formula. Application is smooth and easy to apply and the best thing about this one is that I’ve found it compatible with all my other moisturizers from other brands so I don’t have to switch around what I use with this one. A quick note on serums though is that I think they are best worn with a regular moisturizer on top – especially if you wear foundation or any kind of base product.

The packaging is phenomenal – it’s well designed, sturdy, has the right size/shape to hold easily in the hand. It also comes with a sturdy cap to protect the pump. The pump will dispense both phases into your hand – you just need to rub them together to combine before applying to your face. I have a huge appreciation for packaging that is functional, sturdy and innovative – I really like the way this serum has been put together.

Below you can see the two serums have been dispensed – it’s separated when you first pump it out but it blends easily in the hands before you apply to the face.

Thanks for the ingredient deck! Sounds nice and I have been curious, but the 2nd and 5th ingredients are NOT skin friends for me. Boo! I do love Replenix CF Cream and Serum if you ever need an awesome antioxidant for the equator, sorry Florida, sun!

I used the original formula years ago and am tempted to try the new formula just wish it had retinol in it as I need a bit more anti-aging help πŸ™‚ I’m a big fan of Clarins – my everyday cleanser is their foaming cleanser with cottonseed. It’s so good at washing off all my makeup with a very small amount and doesn’t leave my sensitive skin feeling tight. I also use their hydraquench creams on a regular basis – the silky cream with SPF for day and the ultra rich cream for night. It’s such a balance when you have sensitive yet slightly dry skin and early aging (I’m 44 and getting pesky fine lines) to maintain moisture and get results.

    • Ahhh yes, if it had retinol I think it would be more up your alley for what you’re looking for!

I’ve been looking for a product like this. I will have to check this out. Thank you.

I’ve used this serum for years. I also use their hand cream – especially the fig scent, the SOS serum when I travel, their make up setting spray, and their long-wear foundation to name a few. I lived in Europe in the mid-seventies and Clarins was the brand back then so I’ve been a fan of many of their products for years.

That packaging is so clever! I also like that it has Turmeric as an ingredient, read so much about its health benefits recently!

  • I never really looked at Clarins as a company too much.. they always seemed outdated to me so I’m glad that they’ve reformulated this product as now I’m interested in trying it out!

I’ve never really tried any Clarins skincare before, but definitely gonna check it out because of your review!

  • Lovely post hun xx How do you think this would work on younger skins? I’ve been on a hunt for a new serum and while I’ve never tried Clarins before I’ve heard some amazing things!

    • Hi Ashley – how “young” are we talking? I’m in my mid-30’s and had I known more about serums in general when I was 25 I would have used them earlier. I think this one in the small dose would work!

Not a big Clarins user, except in the 90’s when they were once hot. I fell out of love with Clarins when more lines presented themselves that were more contemporary with lots of advertising & great results. Their packaging is very drab and medical like looking. They should reevaluate all of their packaging. It still looks old and outdated. But, I’ve ordered the Serum to try out to see if it does any kind of magic. I will try it for 30 days and then rotate in with my regular Sisley products which I have fallen in love with and have gotten great results from. I do try many of your recommendations Sabrina, as I believe your really honest and give each product a fair shake, good, great bad or so-so. WE all have different skin conditions and colors, so as a fair skinned person, many of your recommendations don’t fit into my life. Like hair care products, as you still have virgin hair when most ladies do not these days. Having very dry processed hair is always a challenge, just ask! Thank you again for another honest review, I ordered a bottle!

    • Totally on point with your 90’s comment! Let me know if it works for you! Always good to buy from a place with a good return policy.

Right now Sisley is just pure love for me. I can’t believe some of the prices but it’s one of the best I’ve tried.

  • Seems awesome! Need to try it, I have wrinkles on my forehead that I hate maybe this gets rid of them! xx
