Wednesday Beauty Chat

Today I thought I’d do something a little different and have a little beauty chat with you. Kinda like one of my On My Radar or Loving Right Now posts, but I want to know what to hear about what you have on your radar these days! One of the best things about having this blog is being able to interact with so many different people, even if it’s sometimes only through e-mails, tweets or comments here. I discover so many new items from your recommendations, I can’t thank you ladies enough for recommending the Kate Somerville Dilo Oil it’s one of the most amazing facial oils I’ve ever tried in terms of adding hydration, smoothing the skin, and calming down flare ups. I’m in search for a new toner as I’ve used up my Kate Somerville Clarifying Treatment Toner and the SK-II Facial Treatment Lotion – if you can help recommend one for me, I’d really love to hear what works for you.

In yesterday’s post I reviewed three of the new Chanel Le Vernis colors in the new formula. Some of you have requested that I review some more shades so I’ll investigate this weekend and let you know if I end up picking up anymore. In case you had your heart set on the older shades, you might be in a panic that all the colors have been pulled from most sites and counters. At the time I’ve hit publish on this post, you can still find most of the older colors online at Saks Fifth Avenue. If you have your eye on any, I’d recommend ordering sooner than later.

There are soooooo many new product launches for lips. I’m working on editing swatches for the Chanel Rouge Coco Stylos, and each color is incredible. They are super creamy, very pigmented and feel ultra hydrating on the lips. It’s like if you took the Rouge Coco Shines and added a lot more pigment and creaminess. More thoughts on this in an upcoming post – each article takes hours of testing, photographing and editing but I promise I’ll get the article up as soon as I can (hoping to have everything finished and posted later this afternoon).

Bite Beauty just reformulated their lipsticks in a new product called Amuse Bouche. The colors just launched today online at Sephora as a VIB Rouge/VIB Exclusive. There are 34 shades, most of them are new, some are repromoted such as Fig and Pepper. Bite sent the colors for me to play with – I’ve played with a few so far and they are super opaque, creamy and last a long time. It’s going to take me a while to get through swatching and photographing all the colors. It’s times like these when I wish I had a clone, lol. The Amuse Bouche lipsticks will launch in stores in early March.

Yet another lipstick formula to lust over is the YSL Rouge Volupté Shine in Oil-In-Stick, currently exclusive to Nordstrom and YSL Beauty. I ordered some shades and they literally just arrived in the mail so I haven’t had a chance to swatch or play with them. Based on a quick google search the pigment and color payoff looks really good – not as opaque as the regular Rouge Voluptés but more pigmented than the Rouge Volupté Shines.
Last but not least, many of you have asked about the Natasha Denona Eyeshadows – they are going to launch online at Beautylish soon, I’d recommend signing up for Early Access so you will receive a notification as soon as it launches online (a few quick peeks in this post here).

I feel like my list of review items keeps growing – so many of you e-mail me and ask me on social media on a daily basis “when are you going to review (product x)????” Know that I’m working as fast as I can, but I’m a one-woman team (if you can call that a team haha) and there are only so many hours in each day. The only response I can give is “hopefully soon!” I’ve also picked up several photography projects which is keeping me busy but I’m excited about each new project I get 🙂

What’s on your beauty radar these days? With all the lip products launching, what are you most excited about? Anything you think for sure you’re skipping? Let me know what you’re loving these days!
P.S. The Glossier Coconut Balmdotcom is finally back in stock!!!

Thanks for all your hard work, Sabrina! I read every single blog post you write and all of your reviews are detailed, to the point, and extremely useful for when I want to buy stuff. I'm patient enough to wait for your reviews before buying something, and you're usually pretty good at posting soon, so hopefully you don't get too much pressure from the majority of your readers!

    • February 18, 2016 / 4:03 pm

I second @Sheila/Maddy Loves' comment. Thank you for everything you do to share your insights and experiences with the rest of us!

    • February 18, 2016 / 5:56 pm

Thank you Maddy and SoSuSam 🙂 I really appreciate these comments.

Dear Sabrina, I seriously don't buy anything untill I have read your positive review on it and it's available here in the Netherlands or the UK – you are my beauty-bible! Thank you so much for all the (nearly) daily posts, could not live without them!

    • February 18, 2016 / 5:56 pm

Awww thank you Nicky! So sweet of you to say!!!!

  3. February 17, 2016 / 6:42 pm

you have the best beauty blog on the internet!!! thank you (and your team 🙂 ) for all your hard work!! like Nicky, I rarely buy any cosmetics unless I have heard your opinion!!! in my opinion, your reviews are more accurate and honest than most reviewers and it is appreciated. xoxo

    • February 18, 2016 / 5:56 pm

Thanks SJ – it's definitely hard work and often a labor of love.

  4. February 17, 2016 / 7:02 pm

I am liking Mario Badescu Glycolic Acid Toner. It's relatively inexpensive, and helps to clear up my skin tone and texture.

    • February 18, 2016 / 5:56 pm

Thanks for the rec! I'll check it out.

  5. February 17, 2016 / 7:04 pm

Two things I am waiting for like a panting puppy after a long walk…….ABH Glow Kits which won't arrive in the UK until April. And Tom Ford Face Soufflé, just the very thought of the concept and name sounds divine, that arrives at the beginning of May with the TF Soleil Summer 2016 collection. And of course the rest on TF Soleil when it launches but those two items I will pushing women and small children aside in the Beauty Halls to get to those. What a start to the year it's been with product launches. So many beautiful things. Xx

    • February 18, 2016 / 5:57 pm

The ABH kits are extremely glowy! The entire TF summer collection has me drooling!!!

Thanks for all the effort you put into this blog. It is the best beauty blog out there…beautifully
photographed with thoughtful, thorough reviews. Keep up the great work, Sabrina! Oh, and if you're ever looking for an assistant, I'll work for lipsticks 😉.

    • February 18, 2016 / 5:57 pm

      LOL, thank you 🙂

I just recently found this blog, and it is amazing. I love how thorough all of your reviews and recommendations are! Plus the way you often swatch similar brands/shades/products is incredibly helpful.

You mentioned that you were looking for a new toner. I've been really loving Son and Park's Beauty Water, which is kind of a multi-purpose toner/cleansing water. You can apply it after your normal cleansing routine and before serums/moisturizer, etc.

My skin is normally really sensitive (and prone to break outs from new products), but this hasn't given me any problems at all. It's a really gentle product, and I have noticed that my skin feels smoother and more refreshed.

    • February 18, 2016 / 5:58 pm

Hi Emily, thank you so much for the toner rec, I will have to check it out!

I love your blog and trust your reviews. I have gotten so many products based on your recommendations. If you get more of the Chanel le vernis colors, can I put in a request to see Garconne, Monochrome, and/or Mythique? I love Paula's Choice skin perfecting 2% BHA liquid. It has helped clear up breakouts and really smooth my skin.

    • February 18, 2016 / 5:58 pm

Thank you 🙂 yes I will add those nail colors to the list, hope to check them out soon!

    • February 18, 2016 / 5:58 pm

Also thank you for the toner recommendation!

  9. February 17, 2016 / 8:20 pm

Hi Sabrina! This was a fun way of posting what's coming. For me, the YSL oil-in-sticks might be my most loved products of 2016…even with a Q1 release! :). Keep up your wonderful work. Kisses from Dubai, That Luxurious Feeling

    • February 18, 2016 / 5:59 pm

Awww thank you! Yes the YSL lipsticks look amazing. The colors are very spring-summery.

  10. February 17, 2016 / 8:41 pm

I love the Chanel Rouge Coco Stylos, but I hate that they only have 0.07 oz. of product and cost the same as full-size lipsticks with 0.10-0.12 oz. And I can't wait to get my hand on YSL RVS Oil in Sticks!! The colour range looks gorgeous!

      I know 🙁

  11. February 17, 2016 / 8:53 pm

Hi Sabrina! I have been a loyal reader for years! You are my beauty-bible as well. 🙂 I agree with another commenter that your photographs and swatches are the best out there, and I always love how you compare the swatches to similar colors. (I had been desperately waiting for someone to compare swatches of the new Tom Ford cream shadows vs Charlotte Tilbury cream shadows for weeks until you posted them!)

As far as toners go, I got sucked into the whole "K Beauty" fad a few months ago and discovered an awesome website called Soko Glam. I have been using their Missha Super Aqua Pore Correcting Toner and the Missha Time Revolution The First Treatment Essence Mist (which has comparisons to the SKII essense) for a few months now and am LOVING both. My skin is so soft and clear, and bonus – they are both super affordable! Def something to check out. 🙂

Anyway, thanks again for all your hard work! I look forward to reading your blog every day. 🙂

    • February 18, 2016 / 6:00 pm

Hi Suzanne – thank you so much for the recommendation on the toner, I'm definitely still into Korean skincare but there are so many options it's kinda overwhelming. A rec definitely helps 🙂

  12. February 17, 2016 / 9:29 pm

Thanks for all your hard work! I definitely have those new Bite lipsticks on my radar but I'm also keeping a look out for the new Too Faced peach palette and the new Kat Von D collab she's doing with them/him.

    • February 18, 2016 / 6:01 pm

Thank you xoxo – I saw snippets of that KVD collab but haven't seen the details yet. Excited to see what they are launching too.

Just chiming in that yours is seriously THE BEST beauty blog out there. Your photographs are stunning (and helpful!) and your text is always elegantly and clearly written. I trust your reviews completely. I'm hopeful that you'll post the YSL Rouge Volupté Shine in Oil-In-Stick swatches and reviews soon — would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

    • February 18, 2016 / 6:01 pm

      Thank you!!!

  14. February 17, 2016 / 9:57 pm

Every collection arrives pretty late to Switzerland, but we slowly start to see the new in. I am looking forward to see the YSL collection in person because the promo pictures made me love it.I am also looking forward to the new Chanel lippies!

  15. February 17, 2016 / 10:28 pm

Hi Sabrina the toner I've been loving is one beauty professor Rachel recommended it's the Mila Moursi Ph Toner it's amazing. I bought 5 of the Chanel stylos and love them all. Excited for your reviews on them.

    • February 18, 2016 / 6:02 pm

Ahhh thanks Melissa, I'll have to check it out, Rachel has amazing skin. Whatever she uses works b/c her skin is always flawless and glowing.

  16. February 17, 2016 / 10:31 pm

The two "toners" I use are Pixi Glow Tonic and Fresh Black Tea Age Delay Infusion. Those are must haves and I own back ups. I tried May Coop Raw Sauce and I'm pretty sure it makes me break out.

    • February 18, 2016 / 6:02 pm

Ahhh that Pixi – I forgot I still have some left in a mini. I had it in my travel bag and forgot about it. I'll have to dig it out!

  17. February 17, 2016 / 11:20 pm

Hope your Bite reviews will come out in time for our Rouge access. Also will you be reviewing either of the two Denona 28 pan palettes? Can't wait to hear your thoughts.
I would be interested in a comparison between the new Chanel top coat and the new Guerlain one– though not very interested in perfumed polishes.

    • February 18, 2016 / 6:03 pm

I will be reviewing the Green/Brown palette from Natasha Denona. Probably won't be reviewing the Guerlain though.

    • February 18, 2016 / 8:37 pm

So pleased to hear about the Denona palette– thank you!

  18. February 18, 2016 / 1:01 am

    for toner Biologique Recherche P50

  19. February 18, 2016 / 3:35 am

I'd love to see more reviews of Sephora Collection products. I've been impressed with their pro collection brushes but haven't branched out to their makeup and skin care. I'm most interested in their moisturizers but there are quite a few of them. Among the whole collection, so much to cover!

  20. February 18, 2016 / 3:44 am

I'm excited about the Bite lipsticks, I actually put in an order for one – Beetroot! When I find myself getting overexcited about a release or anxious about swatches I remind myself that many items will be permanent so calm down. I don't have to buy everything all at once…but it's tempting. lol Just happy when you can get to reviews!

    • February 18, 2016 / 6:03 pm

Yes – good thing they are permanent, so no rush!

I can imagine how much work, research and time goes into your reviews and posts. I love reading them and adore your blog, your taste and the stunning photography. I bought the Chanel stylo in Message and really like the color and wear.
    Thank you! Tanja

    • February 18, 2016 / 6:04 pm

It takes a long time for each post to be completed!

  22. February 18, 2016 / 12:01 pm

So many products are actually on my radar and I am not able to prioritize… a few of them are Sunday Riley Good Genes, Ceramic Slip Cleaner, Pixi Glow Tonic, Oskia Renaissance Mask, Marc Jacobs Coconut Water Primer, Re-marcable foundation and the list goes on and on and on..
On the other note, I have so many lipsticks that I wish to finish at least one before I buy any new ones.. but I am really excited about Chanel Stylos.. 🙂

  23. February 18, 2016 / 1:01 pm

Hands down my most favorite beauty blog. You can tell how much time and effort you spend not only making it look gorgeous, but also being honest and thorough. I just started trying out SkinCeuticals products as a recommendation from my facialist. They make a great toner called "LHA Toner" that has been working for my newly hormonal, ance, and oily skin. They make other formulations as well but I've really been enjoying it thus far. Keep on being awesome!

    • February 18, 2016 / 6:04 pm

Hi Alex, thanks for the toner recommendation 🙂 I really appreciate your support 🙂

  24. February 18, 2016 / 2:07 pm

You are my first stop every time, the quality of your images is bar-none, and you cover high end beauty like no one else. I am not a lip or nail girl, but I still love seeing how you cover those releases.

I love how you swatched the new Tom Ford shadow releases… and then I said "as pretty as they are I do not need these." And I tried to not buy them, but now I am on the wait list at Nordstrom for both the Disco Dust and Honeymoon quads … dammit. I need them like I need a hole in my head.

There are a lot of products that I simply will not buy til I read about your thoughts on them. There are others that I never even think about as "oh I should try that" til I read about them here. Like Tatcha's hand cream…I now have that, and I am so not a hand cream kind of person.

    • February 18, 2016 / 6:05 pm

Awww thank you Ame! I hope you can get either Disco Dust or Honeymoon! LOL the Tatcha hand cream = pure love.

  25. February 18, 2016 / 4:14 pm

As I said above (when I glommed onto Sheila/Maddy Loves' comment), thank you so much for your beautiful, informative posts. I'm always so excited to read them–and to feast my eyes on your gorgeous photos and layouts–whether they're about the latest lipsticks, or candle care, or travel…whatever you write about, you really bring it to life and give us unique insights. Thank you!

In return…may I suggest you try Biologique Recherche Lotion P50 as a toner? (No affiliation, by the way, just very happy skin.) Okay, perhaps not an equal trade, given all that you do! Nonetheless…the BR P50 is an acid toner that works incredibly to smooth skin, even out skin color, and treat/prevent clogged pores or even acne. It's incredibly age-erasing as well. Now, you have sensitive skin and so do I–so if you want to try the BR P50, I suggest you PROCEED WITH CAUTION. You might check out my review of it on MUA (my name on MUA is colorcat, you can do a search for my reviews, as I'm sure you know). I've explained there how to ease into P50 for highly sensitive skin. It's incredible; truly worth the effort if you want toner that "treats" skin, just doesn't moisturize or clean it.

    • February 18, 2016 / 6:06 pm

Thank you 🙂 And thank you for the toner rec! I will see if I can find a way to do a patch test with it – I have extremely sensitive skin, many toners make my skin react instantly with lots of little red dots all over the place.

    • February 19, 2016 / 6:28 pm

Good luck with the P50 if you try it! This may seem odd, but again, I suggest looking at my MUA/P50 review. It's just that I outlined how to make P50 work for sensitive skin. (Not that it's rocket science, but you might find it helpful.) There is a sensitive skin version of BR P50, but I hear it's not as effective. Better to take it very slooooooowly and cautiously with the full/regular version. (And I recommend the version called "Original 1970.")

Anyway, whether or not you use P50, here's hoping you find a really good toner for your skin soon. 🙂

    Hi Sabrina,

I love, love, love your blog and have been reading it for years! I hope you don't feel pressured to review x and x release because your readers are asking for it. I think just hearing your thoughts on items you've purchased is enough for most of it, even if it's not from a new collection. The fact that you do is amazing, though.

Have you tried Cremora Lab's essence? It's very soothing, gentle, and hydrating without that heavy tacky feeling that some heavy duty essences have. I've tried quite a few Japanese and Korean essences, and I do love the way this softens the skin and calms everything down. I have sensitive dry combo skin that breaks out easily, and I have not had any reactions to this. You can find it at Peach and Lily. For me, any acid based toner to clarify just ends up aggravating my dry spots even more, which ends up leaking to more acne or inflammation. I'd rather do weekly peels (PTR pads) than a clarifying toner daily. Still, I've heard really good things about Biologique Recherche Lotion as the ultimate toner, so I might try that one day! Good luck with the search!

    • February 18, 2016 / 6:07 pm

Hi Christina – thank you for the Cremor Lab rec, I will have to check it out from Peach and Lily! And thank you for your kind words.

  27. February 19, 2016 / 10:48 am

I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE the Amuse Bouche line and just got the shade Verbena in yesterday. So silky yet SO opaque! A great successor to my fave Luminous Creme line.

I'm getting my YSL Rouge Volupté Shine in Oil-In-Stick today! I'm so excited to try this as my poor lips have been suffering (NJ has had awful weather recently) and this sounds really moisturizing.

A few other things I've recently fallen in love with are Kevyn Aucoin Celestial Powder in Starlight, Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick in Masochist, Lorac Buildable Blush in Aura, Nars Blush in Amour and the Bobbi Brown palette in Everything Eyes. Oh and the Chanel blush in Sunkiss Ribbon.

Skincare wise, the 3 pack of Kiehl's masks from Nordstrom are SAVING my skin right now!

Can't wait to see what you review next!

  28. February 19, 2016 / 3:01 pm

I really have found the Biologique Recherche P50 toner very helpful. Have used it for a few years. They have a sensitive skin version as well I think. Clarins Gentle exfoliating Brightening toner is good, as well as Pixi Glow tonic. I have added the Whamisa Organic Flowers Deep Rich Essence Toner to my morning routine – really like it!

    Love your blog!

  29. February 22, 2016 / 7:53 pm

Try the NARS Hydrating Toner. It's super gentle, but exfoliates and tones so it's amazing! The Pixi Glow Tonic is also great for exfoliating (uses glycolic acid).
