On My Radar

March 9, 2014

On my radar right now:

  • Tatcha Sampler Set is online now at a reduced price, this is a great way to try a variety of items
  • By Terry Cellularose Blush Glacé is a new glow from within translucent gel shimmer blush, I bought Frozen Petal #3 yesterday since it was the only one left in store, I have the other two on my wishlist
  • The NARSissist Eye Palette – so this has been on my radar for weeks now, I’ve resisted so far, if you’ve tried this, what were your thoughts? do I need this?
  • Ole Henriksen The Works is another amazing skincare sampler set at a very good price, I received one as a gift as an introduction to the line, I’ve already found four of the items to be new favorites (review to come soon, also free shipping with code FREESHIP)
  • Caudalie, Lancôme, and Dior Cleansing Waters – I’m running low on my staples and need to replenish, should I repurchase any of these or explore other options? I’m all ears for your favorites
  • Malin + Goetz Mojito Lip Balm – this line is one of my latest obsessions, I visited the counter at Barneys Beverly Hills, but decided to stop by the boutique in Los Angeles yesterday and was so impressed by everything
I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! As always, I’d love to hear about your recent discoveries, loves or items that are on your beauty radar right now.

I have no experience with anything your radar, but I do have your Tom Ford stick foundation on my radar. I am hoping to find my HG foundation within these next 2 weeks because I need something ASAP.

    • If you are close to a SpaceNK or Barneys, I also recommend checking out By Terry, I've been experimenting with their foundations over the past few months. Each time I visit the counter and try something new I fall in love and am very impressed. I definitely recommend checking them out as well if you can test in person!

Thanks for the advice. Looks like I'll be stopping by Barney's this week.

  • I have yet to pick up the By Terry blushes, I have seen them in Space NK and I am dying to go back and pick up the coral one. I love Ole Henriksen Truth Serum! It is a holy grail of mine. I've gone through at least two or three bottles. I have just discovered the Body Shop's Tea Tree Toner and it is amazing and has really helped keep my skin clear !!

  • I'm still very torn about the NARS palette. I've read and seen so many mixed reviews on it. I've seen it in store and as much as I've played with it, I can't imagine paying the hefty price tag.

The NARS palette is a huge disappointment. I returned mine and the SA at the store said they flew out(of the store) and were returned at the same rate. Unless you were(are) sent one to review, save your money.

  • I love cleansing water. I really don't know how I survived without it. Of the three you have featured, I used to consider the Caudalie my HG- until I met Koh Gen Do's cleansing water. In my opinion, nothing can touch Koh Gen Do's version. It even tackles the most waterproof of formulas with ease.

  • Z

I'll second QBB on Koh Gen Do's Spa Water for cleaning. I love it and just reordered, although I was thinking of trying Caudalie because I've heard good things. Maybe next time.

  • Thanks for reviewing Aerin Rose Balm Lipsticks, they are on my radar. Also thanks for mentioning that the By Terry blushes have shimmer — that is something I can safely skip!

  • I just stayed at the Mondrian in Hollywood last month and they had gave me a bag of Malin and Goetz toiletries that I have yet to break into cuz I'm saving them for a special trip. They are pretty cool!!!

  • Sarah

I really like Darphin Azahar Cleansing Micellar Water. This product surpasses all the other cleansing waters out there so far.

  • Faye

I second Sarah's Darphin recommendation…it has a flowery/spa scent but it doesn't bother me; just a warning though if you're sensitive to scents. I also really like Bioderma but it doesn't feel as luxurious as the Darphin water.

  • Beautiful picks! The new By Terry blushes looks lovely 🙂

I don't use cleansing waters as I much prefer using cleansers that are activated with water, but my mom really loves Yves Saint Laurent Toning & Cleansing Micellar Water after I gave her my sample bottle from Sephora. She has sensitive eyes; there are not many cosmetic products she can tolerate but this one does not irritate her at all. She was amazed that it even got rid of the milia under her eyes. I remember reading reviews where other people reported the same positive effect but I can't seem to find those reviews now though.

  • I received the Malin + Goetz Mojito Lip Balm in a sample box (cant remember which one) and it is really great. I have to concur with some of the other opinions about the Nars palette. They colors all seem to muddle together and none of them really work that great for my skin tone. I would definitely recommend swatching them before buying

  • I've been so close to buying the NARS eye palette but I've been resisting since I already have the same colors in MAC, but it's been calling out and both exiting and entering my radar for about a year now. It's a hard life out here, hahaha!

  • I'm currently using the Caudalie cleansing water and I'm very happy with it. I love the light scent that it has. I was thinking about the Dior next but I would love to see some reviews on other brands as well.

  • whoa the Terry Blush Glaces look really intriguing! And the Narscissist, ahhhh this palette is in my wishlist as well 🙂

My latest find is Lancôme Cils Tint. It is a semi permanent lash tint – just like getting your lashes tinted at the salon except for me at least this stuff is better. It is really black but does not make me look like I have raccoon eyes. This is a really unique product. It lasts for about three days. It is not a mascara but it does give my lashes a bit of a curl. I am fair skinned with blue eyes and this really makes my eyes pop. I have only seen it at Nordstrom so far. I got it in store but they have it online as well.

  • I love my NARSissist palette. I know people say they are not pigmented. I don't know if they changed the formula for Australia or something but 2/3 of mine are really pigmented. I only ever use an eyeshadow base though so maybe that has something to do with it. The black isn't that pigmented but I actually prefer darker shades to be less pigmented otherwise I always end up applying too much.
I don't regret mine at all.

  • I'm a huge fan of Ole Henriksen. Their toners are amazing. I really like the orange one and I've been using it for five or six years now? I really want to try out their new face oil which smells amazing, but I had just bought the Jurlique one… next time!

  • Oh that Nars palette looks lovely!

I held off on the NARS palette due to reviews. I had bought a couple of things at Sephora that I wasn't going to use so I figured I would get the palette. Well – I am glad I did – the reviews I think are bad because everyone is swatching them on their hand – It you use good brushes and apply to you eye with a good base – I use MAC paint pots alot. The colors are lovely – I felt this was good for travel – I would take this and a blush palette and maybe a MAC quad that I will put together and have everything I need – I am happy I got it but like I said – I did have a return so the price wasn't that bad

  • For cleansing waters (micellar solution), I've tried Caudalie, Bioderma (Lisa Eldridge rec) and my favorite Koh Gen Do. Koh Gen Do just seemed more effective at removing stubborn eye makeup. However, since I'm always looking for the next great thing, I still want to try Lancome and Vichy.

  • While I really like Caudalie's cleansing water, I love Chanel's. I believe it was LE, but I loved the pump mechanism to get the product out and it was very effective. I think I stopped buying it because there were others that were cheaper, but now I am considering purchasing again when this bottle of Caudalie is finished.

Have you ever used Epicuren products? I am obsessed with them, but they can be harder to find…

Haven't tried the Nars palette because the Paula's Choice one was released at $40. I have to say, although her colors are very pigmented, they all turn greyish on me. I've had colors turn on me before, but this is a palette with only two grey/black colors in it. And I always avoid those being a very fair redhead, But all the gorgeous warm colors do not show up as warm once I layer them over one of the two light colors that I use as a base. If this one goes back, the Nars is next on my list to try as an all purpose palette that would serve as a one stop deal for traveling. That is what I wanted the Paula's Choice one for. I also would love to check out the Naked3 palette. I've never owned any of the Naked palettes because Naked1 seemed so shimmery, but the rose browns are colors that look great one me, if they don't turn, so I'm very interested in trying it. For taking off a full face of makeup, I use Clinique's Comforting Cream Cleanser. Its great for dry skin and takes off everything from foundation to waterproof mascara! I usuallly use wipes for swatching or just powder on my face. CVS makes dupes of all the brand name wipes available in the drugstore, like Neutrogenia, Ponds and Olay. I use the green one that is for sensitive skin. I can't remember what it is a dupe for, but it is a very inexpensive to get wipes. I don't need anything fancy for what I use them for. I'll let you know my opinion of the Nars palette as soon as I can get to Sephora. As for a foundation, I'm still looking for my HG. I had high hopes for Bobbi Brown's reformulation of her foundation stick, as people said it was much less yellow, and they came out with a new color, cool sand, that I thought would be perfect for me. Unfortunately, it is still too yellow. So the search continues!!!

Definitely Caudalie. I have tested it half face with other brands like Bioderma. The half-face cleansed with Bioderma was still tinted with traces of foundation. I actually used Caudalie to re-cleanse the half, and I could see Caudalie picks up what Bioderma has left. And the smell is very refreshing. I never go back.

  • would you please do a review of the Cellularose Blush Glace BY TERRY? How does it work against dry/normal/sensitive skin, and whether if this is long lasting on top of make up vs naked skin…how about any multiple usages such as for lips and eye lids…etc. Is it water proof, or water resistant? Thank you!
