NARS Multiple Comparisons: Luxor, Undress Me and Copacabana

July 23, 2012

This season, there is a new NARS Multiple this fall called Undress Me ($39). When I saw previews I wondered how it would compare to Luxor, another soft pale pink shimmer. Several bloggers kindly e-mailed me their thoughts after testing. I was warned about the glitter, yet when I saw this at the counter this past week, I could not resist. The official description by NARS for Undress me is a “ballerina pink with silver shimmer.” Like others have described, the shimmer is actually micro-glitter. It’s not the easiest to pull off with ease for everyday. The texture with the glitter is a bit chunkier and I cannot simply swipe and blend on the cheeks like I do with other NARS Multiples. After experimenting a bit I found Undress Me worked best for me when dabbing and blending lightly with fingers on top of another cream blush. It is glitzier than I am used to, but still something I believe I can wear for going out. I will need to experiment more. I highly recommend checking out the reviews from Scrangie and Product-Girl.
So how does it compare to Luxor and Copacabana? These are my thoughts:
Luxor is paler and sheerer, but gives a more natural luminous glow. The shimmer is very fine making this more glowy rather than frosty/shimmer.
Undress Me is the darkest nude-pink of all three. The base is easy to blend and on my skin it looks very nude with only a slight hint of pink. I personally would love this as a nail polish (reminiscent of Chanel’s Pink Satin nail polish from many years ago).
Copacabana is the palest and most frosty on my skin. On my olive skin it gives a sharper contrast since it’s so pale. This is a classic shade that’s great for highlighting. It also makes a nice eyeshadow base (although I prefer St. Barts since it suits my olive/medium skin better).

A few more comparisons (Le Metier Mystique is similar on me, but more pink and more dewy and also minus the glitter):

I hope these comparisons help. Did you try Undress Me Multiple? Thoughts? How are you using it?

  • Great post! Just curious: what is your favorite NARS multiple?

    • Top three: St Barts, Portofino and South Beach πŸ™‚

That looks beautiful. I just saw the collection and I love the multiple as a base on the eyes and as a highlighter over Outlaw blush. What other pieces did you get from the collection? What were your thoughts on the lip products. I only really like Autumn Leaves as the others were too dark.

    • Hi Anahita, I purchased the Vent Glace Duo, More Lip Pencil and Outlaw blush πŸ™‚

  • I'm surprised that you could use it as a shadow base on the eyelid: wouldn't it sooner or later crease? I'm not really familiar with these multiples because many many years ago, Revlon Moondrops put a similar product out which was very popular, but, if used on eyes, would surely crease. It never turned to powder- just stayed creamy so was not a useful base. Really pretty though, and I bought several of them. Can any of you bring me up to speed on this? The big glitter is off-putting as well- I really like Luxor. I greatly appreciate your beautiful blog! xoxo Beth in Pgh πŸ˜‰

  • Hi Sabrina, which NARS multiple would you recommend for a newbie?

    • I Miaka, I would say this depends on what you're looking for. Do you like something bronzy, pink or pale?

I like Portofino for a pink. South Beach or Laguna for a bronze. Maldives makes a really pretty pale champagne highlighter.

    • Thanks for your reply, it certainly helps! πŸ™‚

Wonderful post, Sabrina. I'm sure there were many of us wondering how Undress Me would fare against Luxor and Copacabana. Although I am not a glitter-phobe, the amount of sparkle in Undress Me does give me pause. Although it won't work for me, I can easily imagine it would work for a young woman going out for a night on the town. As pretty as it is, it will have to be a miss for me πŸ™

Nars suggests wearing this in the hollows of the cheeks. Since that is an area we usually contour, putting a sparkly pink there seems counter-intuitive. Has anyone tried doing that?

    • Thank you Eileen! I really appreciate your support and help with answering reader questions. It helps immensely!!

  • NARS Undress me is such a pretty color. I love how NARS name each product to be suitable with the color and NARS naming is so sexy!

    Hi Lizzybee,

Nars Multiples are nothing like the very emollient Moondrops of yore. Multiples are about an inch in diameter and are designed primarily for swiping on larger areas like cheekbones. The formula is approved for use on eyes and lips as well; hence the name Multiple. Unlike Moondrops, Multiples are not meant to "bath the lips in moisture" or any other part of the face or body for that matter. They go on smoothly, but they are not moisturizing. In short, Moondrops and Multiples are two completely different products. I think Multiples are at their best when used in the classic manner of highlighters, blushers, and bronzers.

    Hi Miaka,

Multiples come in a large selection of colors and can be used as highlighters, blushers, or bronzers. Which works best for you depends on how you want to use it and what your skin tone is like. Copacabana is an all time fave for highlighting (as is Luxor if you need more of a pink tone), Laguna is a classic for bronzing. Orgasm is a well-loved flush of color although it does not work with my skin tone. Nars often teams those three–Copacabana, Laguna, and Orgasm–for summer looks. There are just so many color options when it comes to Multiples. Your best bet is to go to a Nars counter and play a bit with them.

    • Hi Eileen,

      Thanks for your reply!

  • While I think this shade is lovely, I passed on it because I have very oily skin and enlarged pores and I thought Undress Me might accentuate that. Also, and I might be the only one on this, but I don't really like the Multiples. I just found that when swiped across cheeks (over makeup) it always has a tendency to look patchy on me. And blending was not the easiest–but then, I don't really prefer cream-to-powder formulas anyway

  • Luxor looks very sheer, and I'd love to achieve the glow with a sheer highlighter. I have had Copacabana for ages and sometimes I use it as a light highlighter. I think it's not very shimmery, and so it creates quite a subtle dewy finish.

but creamy highlighter can look oily in summer. I use powder in Summer and I prefer to use creamy textures in winter!

  • I have luxor but I can't get it to sit right over my foundation – it causes clumps underneath. Sad, because I bought it but never used it.

  • undress me looks delish!

  • I love the undress me:)

  • I found multiple is not the easiest thing to use. I feel it's a bit sticky. Lucky that the new color came in pink undertone and I don't need more of it. Happy to pass this one. Thanks for the great swatch!

  • I absolutely love the undress me, it's fabulous!
