Long-wear Lip Test Try On

September 23, 2022

Long-Wear Lip Test Sephora Haul Picks

Today’s roundup is for all the girls asking for the best new long-wear lip formulas. I love that there are so many new formulas on the market for us to choose from. It’s nice to have options! I’m usually a glossy lip lover but I’ve been trying out more matte formulas, especially since the fall season is around the corner and mattes are nice to wear this time of year!

Long-Wear Lip Test Sephora Haul Picks Huda Beauty, Dior, NARS, Urban Decay

I put four new formulas to the test from Sephora. They always have the newest launches first and I love their Beauty Insider Program (you can sign up for free here). After playing around with some new formulas I am really surprised that the budge-proof lip DOES exist! Here’s what I tried and my thoughts on each formula.

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Ultra-Comfort Transfer-Proof Lipsticks

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipsticks

The Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Ultra-Comfort Transfer-Proof Lipsticks ($21 each) are among the most popular for liquid lipsticks. I usually don’t opt for liquid lipsticks because they often look really dry and darken on my lips but there are a lot of really great colors in this line. I tried one from a sample I got as a Beauty Insider and was immediately hooked.

Sweet Talker is a muted pink and Perfectionist is a pretty cool rose pink. I really want to try more shades! The formula is a lightweight liquid. It dries to a comfortable matte finish and once it dries it stays put for hours. Lasting power is really good as long as your lips stay dry. It will transfer to a straw if you drink or if you eat, but other than that I’d give it an A+ for pigment and B+ for lasting power.

Urban Decay Vice Lip Bond Glossy Liquid Lip

The Urban Decay Vice Lip Bond Glossy Liquid Lipsticks ($25) are truly impressive. I love that they have a glossy finish versus the traditional matte look for a liquid lip. The lasting power is truly incredible. Transfer proof and budge proof but you need to let it dry/set. Since it’s ultra pigmented I’d say a little goes a long way. You only need a thin layer to cover the lip. My favorite is Text ‘Em for the perfect pink rose.

New NARS Powermatte Long-Lasting Lipstick

The NARS Powermatte Long-Lasting Lipsticks ($34) are also A+ lip material. They have a more matte almost airbrushed look compared to the Powermatte Lip Pigments. I picked two shades to try in Sweet Disposition (pale pink) and American Woman (dusty rose). They have a smooth weightless texture. A few swipes and your entire lip is covered and on me they did not transfer to my hand or a napkin!

Rouge Dior Forever Transfer-Proof Lipstick

Dior Rouge Dior Forever Transfer-Proof Lipsticks

I’ve saved the best (in my opinion) for last. The Dior Rouge Dior Forever Transfer-Proof Lipsticks ($42) are the best transfer-proof lipsticks I’ve tried. I picked 100 Forever Nude Look for my first shade to try and was beyond impressed. It lasted through a cheeseburger meal! The 100 Forever Nude Look pulls a little lighter/cooler than all the other Nude Look lipstick formulas. I found 500 Forever Sensual to be a bit closer in color (another great nude). I also love 200 Forever Nude Touch for a beige and 558 Forever Grace is a lovely berry.

I still love the Dior Rouge Dior Forever Liquid Transfer-Proof Lipsticks. I find the new twist up Rouge Dior Forever Transfer-Proof Lipsticks to be better in terms of lasting power.

The Best Lip Balms, Oils & Plumpers I’ve Tried

August 24, 2022

Best Lip Balms

I’m the ultimate lip balm junkie. I always have at least one in my purse and a couple on my bedside table. It’s been a while since I did an updated roundup of my favorites! Since everyone has different preferences and tastes for what they want in a lip treatment, here are the best treatments I’ve tried. Split into 3 categories: clear treatments, tinted balms/oils and lip plumpers.

Clear Lip Balms & Treatments

Best Clear Lip Balms La Mer, Summer Fridays, U Beauty, Tatcha

Best Lip Balm Too Faced, Laneige and Biossance

I love a good clear lip treatment and there are so many formulas out there, it can be overwhelming. Here are the best ones I’ve tried.

La Mer The Lip Volumizer Lip Serum ($85 at Sephora, Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus) is my most-worn lip treatment. It’s technically a lip volumizer, but I wear this as a balm. It has a smooth cushiony feel. Love that it has a wand/sponge applicator. I wear this at night when I’m sleeping because it hugs the lips nicely and smoothes them. Has a slightly minty scent. No tingle.

Summer Fridays Lip Butter ($23 at Sephora) is my second-most worn lip balm. I love the clear and tinted formulas. They perform equally well for a softly scented vanilla treat to the lips. Hydrating and smooth. Not sticky. Doesn’t feel like it will slide off the lips. Highly recommend.

U Beauty The Plasma Lip Compound ($68 at U Beauty, Saks, Nordstrom) was gifted to me by a friend. This is the first U Beauty product I’ve tried and it’s the ultimate splurge for the lips. It has a cushiony feel to plump and contour the lips. The metal applicator has an incredibly smooth cooling effect when you apply. It gives you that glass skin look for the lips. This one is unscented.

Tatcha Kissu Lip Mask ($28 at Sephora and Tatcha) is my favorite lip mask. It’s one I’ve used and loved for years. It’s one of the few in pot form that I’ll still use. These days I’m all about having a squeeze tube, wand or some sort of applicator instead. Hydrates, makes the lips soft, love the beautiful packaging too.

Too Faced Hangover Pillow Balm ($26 at Sephora, Ulta Beauty, Target) is one of the best cushiony swipe and go kind of balms. Has a soft mango almost minty scent to it. The tinted versions are really fun too.

Laneige Lip Glowy Balm ($17 at Sephora) is the best flavored lip balm I’ve tried (one in the squeeze tubes). It is much better and more effective than the popular Lip Sleeping Mask which I’ve tried multiple times and just can’t fall in love. The Lip Glowy Balm is smoothing, hydrating, love the flavor options in Grapefruit and Gummy Bear.

Biossance Squalane+ Rose Vegan Lip Balm ($14 at Sephora and Biossance) this was an impulse buy at Sephora. After reviewing their skincare a number of you told me this was a favorite of yours from the line. It’s a really great thicker balm. If you’re looking for something that has a good thick texture this is a nice one to try.

Tinted Balms and Oils

Best Tinted Balms and Oils Bobbi Brown, NARS, Hermes and Makeup by Mario

For tinted options there are tons of great tinted balms out there. Most of them to me are more of a makeup product versus having skincare properties which isn’t bad. Sometimes I’m more focused on color, other times I want more hydration. These are some options I think excel equally for color + hydration.

Bobbi Brown Crushed Oil-Infused Gloss ($32 at Sephora and Nordstrom) are my most-worn lip oils. They’re a oil-gloss with tint and the best colors are Free Spirit (left) and In the Buff (right, it’s the one that always gets me compliments). They’re medium in pigment with a glossy finish. Love how they feel and look. Swatches here.

NARS Afterglow Lip Balms ($28 at NARS, Sephora, Nordstrom) if I had to pick one tinted balm formula to wear the rest of my life it would be the Afterglow Lip Balms from NARS. I have every single color and love them. They add the perfect amount of color and shine. Color featured is Dolce Vita. These are the ultimate lazy girl lip tints. Review here.

Hermes Hermesisitble Infused Lip Care Oil ($55 at Saks, Bloomingdale’s and Neiman Marcus) these still remain my favorite lip oil for the fun scents, beautiful colors and hydrating formula. The applicator could be improved but the formula is so good I’m not going to dock points off. Review and swatches here.

Makeup By Mario MoistureGlow Plumping Lip Serum ($22 at Sephora and Makeup By Mario) love these for the hydrating soft balm formula and color. Every single color is beautiful. I’ve been ordering all of the Makeup by Mario exclusive colors that have been dropping Mondays this summer on their website. Will review + swatch soon.

Lip Plumper Treatments

Best Lip Plumpers Charlotte Tilbury, Dior, Lawless and PatrickTa

I rarely use lip plumpers because I already have full lips. I’m also very sensitive to tingles so I tend to only use plumpers that have a more smoothing effect.

Charlotte Tilbury Collagen Lip Bath ($35 at Sephora) is my favorite plumping lip product. It smooths lips, adds a lovely shine, adds volume. Refresh Rose and Pillow Talk always get compliment’s anytime I wear them alone or on top of a liner. Swatches here.

Dior Addict Lip Maximizer Plumping Gloss ($38 at Sephora and Dior) are also staples in my routine. I almost always have one of these with me in my bag. They’re smooth without any sting. Love the color range for a sheer wash of color. My favorite is Rosewood which I’ve used up and need to restock.

Lawless Forget the Filler Lip Plumper Line Smoothing Gloss ($25 at Sephora) in Cherry Vanilla is 100% worth the hype. This formula has so many mixed reviews. Some love it, others hate it. I’ve tried a wide range of colors and like some of them, others are too pale and thick. Cherry Vanilla is the best one for both the formula and color. It’s a sheer red that gives you the most luscious glass like pink red pout. It’s what I wanted the Fenty Gloss Bomb Heat to look like (but that one stings my lips too much).

Patrick TA Major Volume Plumping Gloss ($24 at Sephora) are really nice! Love these for a glass like shine, smooth texture, soft hint of color. These have a subtle cinnamon scent to them.

Tarte

Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip and Plump

Last but not least I had to give a shoutout to Tarte. You girls know I’m a huge fan of the Maracuja Juicy Lip Balm ($21 at Tarte, Sephora, Ulta Beauty) for a tinted balm. They’re the perfect effortless swipe and go kind of lip balm. The best shades are Grapefruit and Rose.

I also really love their newer Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip Plump ($21). The colors are all very wearable. These have a noticeable plumping effect on the lips with a tiny bit of tingle. 100% recommend both.

Chanel Fall 2022 Rouge Allure Lipsticks

August 18, 2022

Chanel Fall 2022 Rouge Allure Lipstick | The Beauty Lookbook

As promised I have a look at the new Chanel Rouge Allure Luminous Lip Colors ($45 each) for fall. I have 9 of the 12 new neutrals to share swatches of. As a neutral lip lover I could not be more excited for these! All of the colors are available now online at Chanel.com.

Chanel Fall 2022 Rouge Allure Lipstick | The Beauty Lookbook

The Rouge Allure Lipstick is one of my long-time favorite formulas, although a number of my favorite shades were limited-edition or have been discontinued by now. This is a classic lipstick formula with a luminous glow. Glides on beautifully on the lips. Medium buildable coverage with most shades, the bolds being very opaque. These have a very subtle almost skincare scent but it’s barely there.

Lasting power is medium – they have a glossy finish so they’re not super long wearing but they will stay put as long as you don’t have any contact with your lips. It’s a formula I don’t mind re-applying!

Colors for fall are in the neutral range. There are light shades, medium tones and deeper colors. I skipped the brown tones since I rarely end up wearing them. Every single color I tried has a beautiful smooth texture. The lighter shades are smooth and have very good pigment. The deeper tones are also smooth (no streaking or patchy texture).

In indoor natural light:

I received 5 shades in PR and then ordered some additional shades to review:

  • 194 Sensibilite is a light peachy pink
  • 195 Mise A Nu is a beige
  • 196 A Demi Mot is a neutral medium pink
  • 198 Nuance is a rose pink
  • 199 Inattendu is a muted mauve brown
  • 206 Illusion is a pale beige nude
  • 209 Alter Ego is a soft brown
  • 211 Subtile is a deeper berry
  • 212 Caractere is a medium brown

Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte Lipsticks + Liners

August 4, 2022

Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte Lipstick + Liner

After a few weeks of testing, I finally have a review of the new Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte Lipsticks ($20) and Lip Liners ($15). I tried 6 of the 10 shades and while I love the colors, I have mixed thoughts on the formulas which I’d give a solid B to B+.

Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte Lipstick + Liner

The Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte Lipsticks are creamy mattes. Formula has an almost buttery creamy feel with a matte finish. Pigment is rich and full coverage and hugs the lips. I love the packaging which has a pop-up cap with a flat end so if you lay them on a table they won’t roll off. I think the colors in this launch are beautiful and also love that they are unscented.

I’m not usually a fan of the matte lipsticks on me because they end up looking too dry for my taste. I do love mattes from Charlotte Tilbury, Pat McGrath, and Chanel and I had high hopes for the new formula from Rare Beauty. On my bare lips the Rare Beauty lipsticks look dry. If I prep with a lip primer like the MAC Prep + Prime Lip Primer it makes a world of difference for a better smoother application and look. Straight out of the tube I give these a B. With a bit of primer or smoother underneath they’re better.

The color range is stunning, but I really wish they made these in a cream or even glossy finish. I ordered mine sight unseen (they’re all in Sephora stores by now). The online swatches look darker and bolder than in real life. A lot of these will vary depending on your skin and lip tone since they’re neutrals. Since they’re full coverage my natural lip does not show through in any of these. Colors I hauled:

  • Talented is a neutral beige
  • Creative is a medium pale peach nude
  • Worth is a cool toned muted mauve
  • Humble is a rose pink mauve
  • Lively is a warm pink peach
  • Fun is a warm rose

Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte Lipsticks Review

I have the similar thoughts about the Rare Beauty Kind Words Lip Liners. I love the concept of a matching lipstick and liner and like the thoughtful packaging (these are twist ups). These are matte but still glide on the lips with a nice smooth feel. I give these a higher rating than the lipsticks. They’re a tiny bit tacky feeling to the touch once they’re applied on the lips but it does dry down to a smooth matte. I like that they help the lipstick adhere better and stay put longer. Lasting power is very good.

Rare Beauty Kind Words Lip Liners

In terms of lip liners formula comparisons I think the Huda Beauty and Makeup By Mario formulas are better. They glide on better and don’t look as matte. However the Rare Beauty lip pencils are much better than the Kosas Hotliners which I think are hard as a rock and smell like old Crayola crayons.

Rare Beauty Kind Words Lip Liners

Swatches of all the Rare Beauty lip colors on me below. I layered both the liner and lipstick together. I’m also wearing the Positive Light Tinted Moisturizer in 32N, Always an Optimist Soft Radiance Setting Powder in Light Medium, Warm Wishes Effortless Bronzer Stick in Happy Sol, Soft Pinch Liquid Blush in Hope + Encourage mixed, Too Faced Born This Way Natural Nudes Eyeshadow Palette.

Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte Lips Talented

Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte Lips Creative

Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte Lips Worthy

Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte Lips Humble

Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte Lips Lively

Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte Lips Fun

Rare Beauty Kind Words Matte Lipsticks

Bottom line: I love the colors, the packaging, pigment. I don’t love the matte finish because I find them a little dry looking on me, but I shouldn’t dock points off them because they’re designed to be matte. If I could have tried and swatched them all in person I would have skipped Talented and Creative, they pull a little pale on my skin tone, especially since I’m tan right now.

If you like matte lipsticks I think you will like these. If you have dry lips definitely prep with some kind of primer or balm first.

Available now at Sephora.

Hermesistible Infused Lip Care Oil Review

April 15, 2022

Hermesistible Infused Lip Care Oil

shown above: white sunnies / hermes pouch

Hermes launched a new tinted lip oil called the Hermesistible Infused Lip Care Oil ($55 each) and I hauled all of them sight unseen. I’ve been a really huge fan of their Lipsticks, Rose Hermes Lip Enhancers and the Shiny Lipsticks. As a lover of lip oils I had a feeling I would love these too. You can find these at Nordstrom, Bloomingdale’s, Saks Fifth Avenue and Hermes.

The Hermes Lip Oils are scented which I think is super fun! Each one has a different unique scent to match the color. Each scent was made by perfumer Christine Nagel – she’s created a number of beautiful perfumes including one of my favorites Jo Malone Wood Sage and Sea Salt.

Hermesistible Infused Lip Care Oil Review

Full description of each shade and corresponding scent is listed online at Saks and also Hermes. I’ll include what I notice for each one below. They all have a whimsical and sweet spring-like vibe!

  • 01 Beige Sapotille is a sheer beige, this one smells like a sweet candy, almost like lychee
  • 02 Corail Bigarade is a stunning sheer coral, it has a warm sweet caramel orange blend for the scent
  • 03 Rose Pitaya is the perfect bright sheer pink, it smells like the Starbucks Dragonfruit drink to me
  • 04 Rouge Amarelle is a sheer red pink, it scented of sweet cherries
  • 05 Rose Kola is a pretty neutral mauve, it smells like a cola drink!
  • 06 Pourpre Camarine is the most gorgeous sheer purple, this one smells like grape candy

Hermesistible Infused Lip Care Oil 06 Pourpre Camarine

The Lip Oils have a sheer but noticeable tint on the lips. I love that they have a hydrating comfortable feel. They definitely have an oil-like texture, but one that doesn’t feel like it will slide around or off the lips. I love pretty much everything about the oil from the formula, color, packaging design and clear base so you can see the color! If I had one semi-bad thing to say about it, it would be the sponge tip applicator.

Hermes Hermesistible Infused Lip Care Oil

These oils come with a sponge tip applicator which is decent, but I feel could have a better design. The applicators are not bad and the packaging is not really a deal breaker, but I may have become spoiled by the more innovative designs from brands like YSL, Dior and By Terry. So many other lines have put more thought into the packaging these days. They have better sponge tips, sometimes with a well/gap inside designed to pick up more product for optimal application. With these Hermes Lip Oils I feel like I have to give the wand several good pumps to pick up enough product to apply on the lips.

The benefit of the shape and design of the applicator is that it does allow for precise application around the edges.

Hermesistible Infused Lip Care Oil

pouch above is the Hermes Bain New Yachting Case (small size)

I’ve been playing around with the oils for a few days now and really love these. The colors are beautiful and formula feels exceptionally smooth and luxurious on the lips. Plus the added scent is unique and fun. If you’re in the market for a luxury lip oil and are willing to splurge I think you will love these. Every single color is perfect and I think there is enough variation with the colors to make them all worth owning. I do think they’re worth the splurge although the price tag is very steep.

If I had to pick my top three, I’d say my favorites are 02 Corail Bigarade, 03 Rose Pitaya and 05 Rose Kola.

Chanel Rouge Allure L’Extrait Review

March 30, 2022

Chanel Rouge Allure L’Extrait

Chanel launched their new Rouge Allure L’Extrait ($55 each) which is their first refillable lipstick ($40 for the refills). I saw the collection earlier this month in Miami and hauled 6 of the 20 colors in the new launch. The Chanel team also sent a selection of colors so I had a few more bolds to share! They are available now online at Chanel.com.

A closer look in one of their beauty boutiques in the Brickell City Center below!

The Rouge Allure L’Extrait is one of the best high-pigment lipsticks I’ve tried. They are ultra creamy, smooth one swipe wonders with a comfortable hydrating feel. Formula adheres nicely to the lips (almost hugs them!) and stays put remarkably well. No bleeding, sliding, creeping!

Chanel Rouge Allure L’Extrait review

These come in a slim black case with the pop up end. They are tiny for the price and since these are refillable the cases aren’t labeled on the bottom. If you have more than one you will have to pop open each lipstick to check the shade. The shade names are in tiny print on the gold tube casing which is hidden once you insert it into the base.

You do need the full case to use the lipstick. There is a click component in the base of the refill portion that allows you to twist it up. Without it you cannot twist up the lipstick.

There are two neutral colors, a few pinks and a wide range of reds, orange shades and bolds. For the red lipstick lover you will really love this launch because they’ve thought of every variation, brightness and undertone of red! For the neutral lip lover (like me) you will still find a couple of nice lighter options. I hope they add more neutrals!

  • 824 Rose Invincible is a deeper rose pink
  • 828 Brun Orgueilleux is a plum brown
  • 832 Rouge Libre is a blue red
  • 862 Brun Affirm is a brown pink red

Below swatches on the lips below! Quick note that most reds look REALLY red on my complexion. Also wearing:

Rouge Hermes Shiny Lipstick Review

March 21, 2022

Rouge Hermes Shiny Lipstick Review

I’m excited to share a look at the Rouge Hermes Shiny Lipsticks today! I’m late to review these as I picked these up over a month ago. We’ve been traveling so I’m a bit behind on reviews! These are limited-edition colors for spring but they’re still in stock at Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus and Hermes. They are very steep in price at $72 each but I think the colors and formula are so good, I feel they were worth the splurge for me.

These are translucent lip colors with a glossy finish. The color payoff is exceptional for something that has a translucent finish. They’re pigmented but balmy and glossy with a slight transparent quality to them. The colors were inspired by a garden filled with light and water and I couldn’t have described them better!

Rouge Hermes Shiny Lipstick Review

There are three colors:

  • Beige d’Eau is a sheer beige but still shows up as alight peachy beige on my lips
  • Orange Capucine is my new favorite bright coral orange, bright but wearable
  • Rose Nymphea is a gorgeous bright cool pink lilac, surprisingly wearable on my olive complexion even though it’s more cool-toned

Rouge Hermes Shiny Lipstick Review

Makeup worn:

Rouge Hermes Shiny Lipstick Beige d'Eau

Rouge Hermes Shiny Lipstick Orange Capucine

Rouge Hermes Shiny Lipstick Rose Nymphea

Texture is smooth and glossy. They have an almost balm-like feel. The colors are flawless and bring the complexion to life! I love that they’re bright but not too bright. These make for a nice change from my everyday neutrals. If you can splurge I highly recommend these for both color and quality.

Also wanted to share a look at three of my favorite Hermes Nail Enamels ($45 each). These still are harder to find. They keep selling out on multiple sites but will pop back on every now and then. Sometimes Saks will allow you to pre-order online (how I got several of the colors). Some shades also available now at Bloomingdale’s.

Hermes Nail Polish Rose Horizon, Orange Poppy and Rose Incarnat

I’ve been asked if these are “worth the price” and I still don’t think any nail polish is worth $45. I do love the formula, I think the colors are perfect and really flattering. I have no regrets with my splurges.

  • Rose Horizon is the perfect mix of pink and coral
  • Orange Poppy is a bright vibrant orange
  • Rose Incarnat is a bright pink

Formula has great lasting power (no chips or peeling). I can get 7 days of wear without any chips or tip wear although some sunscreens completely ruin my polish (top coat and all) so I don’t always get to wear it for a full week. I’ve had Orange Poppy on my toes for nearly 3 weeks now and it’s held up remarkably well.
