Burberry No. 02 Mocha Complete Eye Palette

Burberry No. 02 Mocha Complete Eye Palette contains four warm-toned neutrals. I’m one who always falls in love with shimmery neutrals, but this palette seemed a bit too similar to shades in Burberry’s existing line. I’m all for no-fail safe colors and I really loved the texture, pigment and convenience of all the shades in one palette. I just wish the colors were a bit different from what Burberry already released in singles. The colors included:
  • a soft matte ivory that matches my skintone when applied, very similar to Trench but a tad warmer
  • a warm golden beige-tan with subtle shimmer, nearly identical to Gold Trench
  • a warm matte chestnut brown, lighter than Chestnut
  • a warm bronze shimmer, unique compared to other browns from Burberry, but still very basic
The texture is just as smooth and soft as the singles. There is a bit of a powdery finish with debris from dipping a brush into the compact, but I experienced very little fall out when applied on the eyes. The colors layered beautifully to give a perfectly natural contoured eye. Lasting power was excellent and the colors did not budge at all during the entire day.

Comparisons below to Burberry Trench, Chestnut and Midnight Brown as well as Guerlain Les Cuirs which is very similar but not quite as warm:

Overall I’m very pleased with the performance of Mocha. The pigment and wear is excellent. However, if you own Trench, Gold Trench or Chestnut, I don’t think you need this quad. I personally prefer the texture/color of Trench rather than the ivory matte in the quad, but they are still very close. It’s a lovely quad that has a nice earthy feel. It works amazingly well with pinks, peaches and bronzey colors for lips and cheeks and is perfect for everyday wear.

Did you try or buy Mocha? What were your thoughts?

If one has not bought the single Burberry eye shadows yet, then I think buying the palette is a good way to try products from this brand. The palette is $59 whereas the individual ones are $29 each.

I have not bought anything from Burberry yet despite the positive reviews. I guess I'm just afraid to fall in love with another beauty line. 😀

Aaahhhh, such a helpful review! This quad caught my eyes immediately. And I kinda know that I should have most of the shade but I love the color theme so much. Now I no longer agonize between this quad and Dark Spice. Thanks so much Sabrina!

Thanks for this comparison, Sabrina!! I haven't been to the mall to check out the palettes in person, I knew it would somewhat be similar to Burberry singles that I have. Excellent pictures as always!

I'll have to re-swatch this quad. When I first tried it, I thought it was a little dry, but on your skin these shadows look ultra creamy. I have Chestnut and midnight brown, but Golden Trench is on my wishlist, so maybe I'll take another look at this.

Stunningly gorgeous! I really like that the shades in their palettes are similar to some of their singles–it gives ppl (like me) a chance to try several shades they've had their eye on all in one compact. I can't wait to try these–I thought I only wanted Plum Pink and Pink Taupe but after seeing your swatches, I am really wanting Mocha and Smokey Grey now!!

I agree with your comment- I looked at these and decided that they were to similar to their existing shadows-this would be great for someone new to Burberry…..

I checked these at the store after seeing the preview post of yours. These are ubber soft and so rich in color! as much as I wanted to buy them, I just had to pass because of the similar shades I have. I don't even wear elaborate eye make up…. 🙂 Thank you for the swatches…

Thanks for this review, I have been awaiting it. I have had my eye on this particular quad, as I have been looking for a simple, warm-neutral palette for some time. I bought pale barley based on your review a while back, and I love it. I don't have any other burberry shades.
